Buttercups and Golden Flowers

#i drew this mostly because i noticed that a lot of people mistake buttercups and golden flowers as being the same thing. #so i wanted to try drawing them like. distinctly different in the same image. #it's not a big thing but i do think the fact that they're different has some significance. or at least like. symbolic meaning. #my art #undertale #chara #chara dreemurr #safeutdr #something about the fact that they both look similar at least in color but one of them is poisonous. #the way golden flowers are clearly a positive symbol throughout the game and clearly heavily associated with Chara. #contrasted with the very negative connotations buttercups have. with asgore getting sick and chara using them in their plan. #you never see buttercups in the game. which makes it even easier to mistake the two. because we've only seen one kind of #golden/yellow flower. who's to say 'golden flowers' aren't just referring to buttercups? well. #why would there be golden flower tea if they were poisonous? why would chara want to see the golden flowers from their village if they're #the same kind of flower? they clearly have buttercups in the underground. #it feels almost intentional the way golden flowers are so easily mistaken for buttercups. or at least that the difference is so subtle. #it goes well with the way they're associated so strongly with chara who's also a very subtle yet important part of the narrative. #from a surface-level perspective the flowers that took their life and the one's they actually like/are important to them are the same thing #but when you pay closer attention to the narrative you can see the different symbolic meanings. #well. uhh I've thought about it too much don't mind me. #see i think about it from the perspective of chara being super adamant about them being two different flowers #and frustrated when anybody gets it wrong. because clearly. CLEARLY they're not the same. #'STOP confusing buttercups and golden flowers. i literally used buttercups to kill myself do you think i would still like them after that?' #'do you think i want to be associated with them? they're not the same!!' #<number one golden flower enjoyer number one buttercup hater. #i need a badge that says 'i have strong opinions about chara dreemurr because i kin them. i apologize for the wall of text' at this rate.

tbh the more setting details i notice the more i realize how the other Vees are signaled as complicit/participant in Angel's abuse.

It's not just Velvette's 'love potion' being used in an attempt to roofie him out in the world - it's a huge poster of her advertising the 'love potion' put up in Val's studio, notably paired with a Voxtech 'Trust Us' poster on another wall. When Vox is walking past posters in his first appearance, Angel Dust posters are noticeable, along with a Love Potion advertisement that features both Val and Velvette and a poster that just seems to be for the Vees in general. When Angel backs away from Val in his dressing room, a scene where he's been taken out of sight of Charlie and is alone with Val - up pops a Love Potion on his dressing table to one side of him, and a Voxtech camera trained on him on his other side. The other Vees are present, in spirit. When Vox and Val fuck off at the end of Poison (and there's YET MORE to be said about that moment) and Angel finally has his moment of genuine breakdown, there's a Voxtech camera in the foreground pointed at him. Even when he's 'off-camera' he's not safe from observation, and even when he and Val are 'alone', the other Vees are there.

also Velvette is wearing the same outfit she's wearing in the Love Potion poster as she is in the finale, I don't think that necessarily means anything but well. i noticed it

still thinking about the way The Curse was shot. It was such a smart decision to have almost all of the show shot through strange voyeuristic angles, through windows, behind branches, shots with a person in the foreground unrelated to the scene while dialog happens behind them. It has such a unique visual style that so perfectly aligns with the themes of the show.

i might be able to upgrade my phone for something with a better camera and more current operating system if i can gather the £50 upfront charge in the next 24ish hours. Lets call it investing in the future.

i'm on 5x04 the end in my rewatch and i'm soooooo excited for this one because it'll be the first time i've watched it in sequence in two years! usually i watch it without the context of everything else that's leading up to it and i'm curious to see what stands out more to me this time!

#just pav things #I noticed something about their dynamic. or maybe it’s closer to remembered. #See electric guitar on it’s own is not complete without it’s heartbeat. The drums. #My firm belief is that I would not enjoy nearly as many tunes if it weren’t for their dictated pace as well #My best example (and sorry for the predictability) is pq’s F.O.E.. Pay attention to the melody line. #These two instruments are so complementary to each other! #And I think that’s why I made Inigo a drummer way back when #You know Inigo consciously decided on that— #He just wants to be there for Archie he wants to be there WITH Archie #who used to be a guitarist if you recall~ #And this is still reflected in more recent incarnations! #He trained himself to be ambidextrous because he thought it would be a cool thing to show off to Archie #He’s so incredibly academically inclined because learning how to speak and do mathematics was how Inigo bonded with him #Being able to show off what he learned and getting the encouragement and congratulations #He admired Archie as an older figure in his life before everything else y’know #He was a literal toddler how was Archie NOT supposed to imprint on him. #After all he paid attention to him #Held him close on cold nights to help him fall asleep. Sharing the warmth of body and breath #And I think this is so crucial to understanding Inigo and events like his hysteria moment #He runs off of so much fear which is driven by his LOVE for those around him #He loves Archus so he’s scared about what effect he had on him after the incident #He loves Cynthia so he maintains his distance so he doesn’t lose her too #And the resulting isolation destroys him. His true heart is left in dormant sleepiness being kept hidden for so long in sheer anxiety :( #Now if only if there was another Dandelion…. ;)

Ooh ooh can I ask what was THAT SCENE for Meet Cute and/or Echoes of the toy guitar??

(Please ignore how long it took me to notice there was an ask in my inbox, I swear my eyes work mostly fine.) I’m assuming this is referencing that post about scenes that inspire you to write whole stories, if not, my bad! Please correct me lol. For Meet Cute it was the dialogue in general. You may have noticed but character banter is my favorite thing to write and Man Baffled and Bewitched by Woman is probably my favorite ship dynamic, so I came up with the banter first then needed a story to put around it. For Echoes on a Toy Guitar, it was the scene where ghost Hector smashed the radio because Ernesto was singing Remember Me. I almost didn’t write it because I wasn’t sure how to pace it, but the idea of Hector promising to never leave his wife and child again, when it’s already too late for him to be with them, was too tragic not to write it.
