tasha's optional rules let rangers respec their fighting style when u reach a level that grants ASI ...... n the warlock initiate feat exists .... i think I can save Dev's build n it'll be funny coz she STILL won't be using any of her actual warlock class features but I can change her to two weapon fighting and give her green flame blade which will make her damage output a little bit insane but she will still have 13 ac so like. glass cannon build ftw

okay so what this will end up being is like. 1d6 (weapon) + 1d6 (slayer's prey) + 1d6 (hex) +1d8 (green flame blade) + 2 on the first hit (plue 1d8+2 on another enemy within 5 feet). then 1d6 (weapon) + 1d6 (hex) + 2 on the second hit. for a total of 5d6 + 2d8 + 6 total damage output. assuming both attacks hit and there's a second enemy within 5 feet.

which feels a LITTLE bit like cheesing but also remember that slayer's prey and hex are both bonus actions, so she needs to take two turns to get those up, during which she doesn't take a second attack at all because that's ALSO a bonus action. so win some lose some? hex is also concentration and costs a spell slot so it's not always gonna be there. so the above is like. OPTIMAL conditions which will not always be the case

AND this will make some sense narratively too because currently we have two frontliners, which are the Very Large Tank barb/fighter and the Extremely Frail Old Man cleric. why is the old man taking so many hits while our ranger, rogue, and gunslinger stay far far back. nah. Dev's gonna take out her swords and take some glory for herself dammit (not that she CARES about father raylen at all she definitely just wants to prove herself. if she's protecting him it's only because he'll be USEFUL to her down the line she is NOT fond of that old man. stop looking at her like that.)

(none of this is applicable until the next time we level up anyway fjdskl we levelled up last session so it'll be A While)

#devrim arlan #dnd #my ocs #this has been a post #i didn't think dev's build through completely when i first made her #i expected her to switch from longbow to eldritch blast at a certain point but never really realized that #even with the eb invocations. it was never gonna be better than her longbow #until like level ten? eleven? when you get three blasts #for the most part eb and longbow would get teh same number of attacks each turn #and yeah eb has a bigger damage die but #can't apply slayer's prey #so it's like. 2d10 + 2d6 + 4 vs 2d8 + 3d6 + 4 #it's not like. a HUGE difference. about 1.5 more on average for the longbow #but there's ALSO the consideration that. with archery fighting style she's just more likely to hit with the lonbow than eldritch blast #plus they have the same range so that's not even a consideration. longbow might even be longer #it is simply not worth it lmao #but. respec to two weapon fighting and still take agonizing blast when i evnetually take a second warlock level #keep eldritch blast as my long range backup #ditch the bow completely #also i'm less likely to run out of swords i keep forgetting to collect my arrows after fights lmao #she's HAD the two shortswords the entire time! just hasn't used them even once #i'm gonna like. next time we have downtime ask to spar with the barbarian #or the rogue #rogue's used a sword once or twice #(but probably the barbarian because the rogue's player is absent a lot) #sorry to go on a rant about dnd mechanics here fjdksl

3. Bhaal can control his chosen and force the Slayer or actions upon them; did he ever force your Durge to do something against their will or would they obediently follow?

This gets a bit complicated with Ezra. Bhaal quite literally can't compel him the way he does it in the game because while they are creator and creation, their actual standing is more equal. Bhaal's godhood comes from Jergal, but Jergal can't puppet him outright and it's the same in Ezra's case. But because Ezra is also Bhaal's flesh and blood, with his divine essence still directly linked to Bhaal instead of being his own (imagine a divine umbilical cord essentially) he does have more influence over him. Ezra functions half on the power of his own worship (murder) and half on whatever power Bhaal lends him to keep him going. He can make the Urge worse by withdrawing "nutrients" from him, forcing his survival instincts to kick in and essentially kill no matter if he wants to or not. It's a blind hunger, though. Bhaal can't be like "kill this dude", Ezra will go after the people whose deaths will be the most "filling" for the Urge (tragic, catastrophic in consequence, unexpected). He can also control whether Ezra has access to the Slayer because it's not his own innate ability, it comes from Bhaal. Ezra has to essentially "reach" for it and Bhaal can (and has done so before) slap his hand away. He also uses the Slayer as a failsafe to keep his disaster homunculus alive, but that's a whole different topic and I already went on a tangent. But to actually answer the question, before Ezra's amnesia got rid of his conditioning, it was pretty much a case of Bhaal says jump and Ezra asks how high. He broke that boy so thoroughly, he didn't even need to be able to control his actions at will to get him to do whatever he wanted.* *terms and conditions still apply, no touchy the Gorty

4. Durge has an inherent skill for anything medicine; what was their greatest skill? Sewing, caring for wounds, brewing potions or concocting poisons?

Ezra is an anatomy savant, there's not a single thing about the humanoid (and not only tbh) body that he could've learned but doesn't know. He can look at a person and know exactly what their inside looks like, from bone structure to a best possible guess at their organ, vessel and nerve placement. He acquired that knowledge over a 100 years of experiments on subjects both living and dead, but the fascination has always been there and is possibly not even linked to Bhaal at all. The body is a puzzle and if there's anything that man genuinely likes without being influenced by the Urge, it's puzzles. By extension he's a damn good healer and even better killer, but his main thing is the medical knowledge itself.

5. The Deathstalker Cloak is part of their inheritance, but did they really use it or did it bide it's time wasting away in a wardrobe?

It's a part of his getup, alright. One difference is that in my canon the thing is violet as Bhaal intended*. He didn't wear it all the time because cloaks can get a bit annoying, but it was a good aid in stalking prey and he always wore it as a kind of "sacred" garment around the temple. *The other difference is that similarly to the Deathweaver (an infernal make longsword and gift from Gortash), he can use his own magic to empower its existing enchantment so the invisibility is an on demand thing and not fully dependent on killing creatures.
