Avery Bennett
Age: 26
Siblings: Younger half brother Ashton Hurst
Lives in Hidden Springs
Random Facts
Avery's father died when he was a baby. He doesn't have any real memories about him other than the stories his mother told him through out the years. If you ask Avery his real father is his step dad, Castel Hurst. Castel has been his hero since he was a two years old Castel rescued him from drowning when he had wondered too far from his mom at the beach.
He wants to be just like Castel. He's gone to the same business school. Works in the family business in the hopes of proving himself to his Grandfather who is resistant to the idea of handing the business to him because he's not his biological grandson. His grandfather doesn't seem to care that Ashton has no interest in the business and he overlooks Avery's acheivements.
Avery is single minded in his attempts to prove himself capable so much so all he does is eat, sleep and work. He doesn't remember the last time he took time off much less went on a date.

Hurst Lighthouse sketch | Limited edition fine art print from an original drawing. My sketches start life as hand-drawn graphite images made on cartridge paper. I often work on these with charcoal, oil pastel or Caran d'Ache to create the look I'm after. The artwork is then scanned and finessed digitally ready for fine art printing. This process often referred to as Giclée printing uses the highest standard of printing methods to give gallery quality results that maintain all the details of the original sketch. The graphite pencils I use are Faber-Castel, the oil pastels are Sennelier and the china-graph is Caran d’Ache. The inks are pigment based archive quality (100years+). The heavyweight specialist papers I use are of the best professional quality having a wonderful surface designed specifically for fine art drawings and illustrations. Very limited editions with only ten per size printed. All artwork is signed and includes a certificate of authenticity. The A5 are 5.8" x 8.25" (14.8cm x 21cm) The A4 are 8.25" x 11.7" (21cm x 29.8cm) The A3 are 11.7" x 16.5" (29.8 cm x 42cm) The A2 are 16.5" x 23.4" (42 cm x 59.4cm) Frames not included in price. Free shipping on artwork to UK destinations. https://www.seanbriggs.co.uk/product/hurst-lighthouse-2/?feed_id=2975&_unique_id=65da39a779959

Blair jumped when she heard the door to Shawn’s loft open. She was relieved though, to see her cousin. “Blair....are you alright?” He asked, as he caught sight of her. “Did Castel do this to you? I swear to the watcher I’m going to kill him!”
“I did it,” Blair mumbled. “I ended it. I broke up with him. I should be happy to be free, but everything hurts. I thought...I thought maybe he’d fight harder. Makes me wonder if he ever loved me at all.”
Shawn walked over to his cousin and sat beside her. “You decided to break up with him? This morning you wanted to make things better.”
“Yeah, I did. But I ran into Bentley.” Blair held her head in her hands. “I felt it again! There was an electricity between us....” She let the tears fall from her eyes. “I never felt that way with Castel. I thought I loved him, you know? But I don’t know.”
“So you broke up with him based on seeing Bentley? Weren’t you the one who told me that you barely knew the guy?”
“I broke up with Castel because he lied to me. He screened my calls so I wouldn’t keep in contact with Bentley and when I approached him about it, the best he had to offer was that if we broke up there went my job and opportunities. I saw a spoiled kid with influential parents, not the guy who was going to spend Thanksgiving alone two years ago.”
“Blair, I’m sorry...” Shawn said quietly. “I just thought...I wanted to make sure you were thinking things through.”
“I was.”

Family days out in Kent & East Sussex
There are so many places to see and things to do when on holiday in Barnfield House Kent. Here are some of our favourites — ideas that will appeal to adults and kids of all ages.
Great Dixter Gardens
We’re lucky to have England’s most famous gardens within a short drive — the kind that attracts visitors from around the world. My favourite is Great Dixter Gardens an eight-mile drive away in Northian, East Sussex, known as “a place of pilgrimage for horticulturalists.  from across the world”.  Great Dixter is a riot of colour in the summer months, and is fascinating any time of the year. You can also visit the Tudor house, extensively restored by Edwin Lutyens. Allow time for a tea break in their enchanting garden cafe. And do check out their events calendar of talks, tours and workshops.
Camber Sands
Just half an hour from Barnfield House, this miles-long beach of golden sand is gorgeous in all seasons —this photo was taken on Boxing Day! We take bracing walks along the promenade, or on the beach at low tide. Kids love building sandcastles, paddling in the shallow water, and exploring the sand dunes. And there’s excellent kite surfing for the water sports enthusiast.
Bodiam Castle
The 14th Century Bodiam Castle is just what you’d imagine a medieval castle should be: four castellated towers complete with arrow slits reflected in the encircling moat, further protected by a portcullis, and in a fairytale countryside setting. One of the most photographed castles in Britain today, this National Trust site it’s only five miles from Barnfield House. Do visit!
Picturesque villages
Barnfield House is an excellent base for exploring the many beautiful villages of the Weald of Kent and East Sussex. Within walking distance of the house is Hawkhurst, with its Victorian weather-board shopping colonnade and pubs (among them the historic Oak & Ivy Inn, from where the notorious 18th Century Hawkhurst Gang ran their smuggling ring).
Cranbrook four miles away is blessed with the medieval St Dunstan’s church, 15th century cottages, a fascinating museum, and the tallest working mill in England. Glorious countryside drives from Barnfield House reveal more picturesque villages with quaint tearooms, cosy pubs, insta-perfect pastoral settings and poetic names that roll off the tongue – Biddenden, Beneden, Rovenden, Smarden, and Tenterden. Plus lots more ‘hursts’ (meaning wooded area) including Goudhurst, Lamberhurst and Ticehurst.
National Trust Attractions
We are so lucky to have an amazing selection of National Trust-run historic houses, castles and gardens within a 30-mile radius — the closest being a 10-minute drive away.  It's worthwhile paying for a National Trust annual membership even if only staying a week in the area.
Bodiam Castle – (see above) 5 miles
Sissinghurst Castle Garden – renowned gardens created by Bloomsbury poet Vita Sackville-West and Harold Nicholson. 6 miles
Scotney Castle – country house, moated castle and wooded estate. 7 miles
Batemans — Jacobean house, home of Rudyard Kipling. 8 miles.
Smallhythe Place – Victorian actress Ellen Terry’s 16th century house and cottage garden. 13 miles
Lamb House Rye – Georgian house with literary associations. 15 miles
Stoneacre — medieval yeoman’s house and garden. 17 miles
Chiidingstone Village – one of the oldest and most beautiful villages in Kent. 23 miles
Ightham Mote — 14th century moated manor house. 24 miles
Old Soar Manor — remans of a 13th Century knight’s dwelling. 24 miles
Knole — historic house and 1,000-acre wild deer park. 25 miles
Coldrum Long Barrow — created 1,000 years before Stonehenge. 25 miles
Alfriston Clergy House — medieval thatched Wealden hall-house. 27 miles
Sheffield Park & Gardens — historic parkland, woodland and landscaped gardens. 28 miles
Chartwell — family home of Sir Winston Churchill, 30 miles

Two Years Later
Edelle jumped from the couch the moment Castel walked into the room. Hurrying to him with a twisted smile worry flashing in her light blue eyes.
“Did something happen while I was gone?” he asked, returning her hug.
“I’m just happy to see you,” she dabbed her eyes that were red rimmed as if she had been crying.
“What happened?” he asked. His stomach churned as apprehension surged through him. THe entire weekend he felt something had been off. He should never have let his father talk him into going to Bridgeport. The urgent business could have been taken care of over the phone via video conferencing.
“Nothing,” she repeated unconvincingly.
Giving her cheek a tender kiss he wrapped in his arms where she snuggled against him. “You don’t have to pretend you’re alright. I know you’re not.” Holding her face between his hands he peered into her troubled eyes. “Tell me what happened,” he requested softly, “are the boys alright?”
“They’re fine,” she sniffed, “it’s just…” She bit her bottom lip “your father’s lawyer came while you were gone.”
“Oh,” the simple word held all the anger he felt at the mention of his father’s lawyer. “I’m sorry,” he forced most of the anger from his voice “I didn’t know.” Now it made sense why his father had wanted him in Bridgeport.
“That guy was awful,” she gulped “especially when I refused to sign anything. I told him to send everything to our lawyer and we’d be in touch.”
“Good,” he said, pulling her with him to the couch. He could imagine the lawyer wasn’t happy with that answer. Had probably tried to persuade her into the direction they wanted her to go in. “I’ll talk to my father. The boys will have a choice in who takes over the business.”
“According to the lawyer Avery has no choice at all. He’s not blood…”
He’s my son as much as Ashton is,” he growled vehemently.
Taking his hand Edelle shook her head “I know but according to your parents….”
“Next time I have to leave on business we’ll all go,” he assured her. “I won’t let him pressure you into anything. I promise.” He knew it had been the right decision to move his family to Hidden Springs; this only confirmed it.

I finally finished the last epilogue chapter of Not So Quiet Life. Going on vacation helped to get the creative juices flowing again. The families mentioned in the epilogues will be the ones we'll focus on in the next generation once I figure out the story lines.

“What do you see?” he asked her, watching her carefully like his life depended on her next words.
“I see you. A man with flaws. A man with regrets. A man with a bigger heart than he gives himself credit for.” Leaning into him she pressed her lips to his “you are so much more than you realize.” Holding his face tenderly “of course I’ll come with you if you want me to.”
“Thank you,” he pulled her close. “with you I feel like this is where my life was leading me to me all along.”

“I know,” he opened his mouth wanting to say more but changing in his mind.
Watching him she could see his struggle. Lifting a hand she tenderly caressed his cheek willing him to say what was on his mind.
“Will you come with me,” he asked finally “I know I have no right to ask. I’m no prize or even a good person. I’ll understand if you don’t want …”
“Shh,” she placed her hand over his mouth “It’s time you stop talking like that about yourself. You are a good person. You saved my son’s life. You put your life on the line to help Lee. It’s time you see yourself the way I see you.”

“I don’t know,” sighing again “I’ve spent most of my life running from that place. I can’t imagine ever wanting to go back.”
Taking his hands “maybe it’s time to stop running.”
“Humph,” he grumbled “you sound like my mom.” Lifting his eyes to meet hers “I have a feeling if I go home this time I won’t be able to leave. Dad needs someone to take over the family business. His health hasn’t been good for the last several years.”
“Then you have to go,” she squeezed his hand.

Sighing shocked as the tears stinging his eyes. “My mom called to ask me to come home.”
“Oh?” Her chest tightened as she reached for him “when do you leave?”
His head jerked up “you want me to leave?”
“That’s not what I said. I just thought you would. It must be important for her to call. Don’t you want to go home?”

“Achoman,” Avery cried running to greet Castel as he walked up to the porch.
Watching the young man lift her son into the air Edelle said “I’m beginning to think you are part mermaid.”
“Nope just a plain old human,” he set Avery down to give her a peck on the cheek “you look beautiful.”
Tumblr media
“Thank you,” she smiled up at him. Putting her arms around him “is something wrong?”
Shaking his head murmuring “it’s nothing.”
“Don’t,” she chided him softly, “I can tell something’s wrong. Tell me. We can work it out together.”
A small sad smile formed matching the melancholy in his eyes. “I should have known I couldn’t get anything past you.”
“It’s time you stop trying,” she took his hand as they walked inside the house. After giving Avery a snack she sat beside him on the couch. “Now tell me,” she requested.

“I’m sure you had some good qualities” she countered. “She liked you once for reason’s you’ve forgotten.” Entwining her fingers with his “it’s time you forgive yourself for the mistakes you made in the past. You’re not the same person anymore. Blair would see that if she were here.”
“You think so” he asked in a wondering tone.
“Of course” leaning over him “but it’s too late for her.”
“Too late” he frowned “for what?”
“To see what a wonderful man you turned out to be” grinning she pressed a kiss to his forehead “you’re mine now and I’m not letting you go.”

“Yes” she adjusted his sling “a little wet but okay.”
“What about the boats” he asked “I’ll for for the damages.”
“I’m sure they’re insured” she sat in a nearby chair “don’t worry about it.”
“I have to” he protested “they live in those boats. Insurance will only pay so much and maybe none of the damages to Lee’s boat. It may not cover unauthorized drivers.”
Taking his hand she rubbed it against her cheek. “That’s why I like you” grinning down at him “you’re always thinking about others.”
“I wish that were true” he laid back closing his eyes wincing a little. “Blair would certainly disagree with you. Back then all I did was think about myself.”

“Yes you did” patting his shoulder “it just too bad Peter’s boat got in the way.”
“I’m always going to be known as the guy who drove into a boat aren’t I?”
“Probably” laughing at the face he gave her. “It could be worse.”
“How” he demanded moving to cross his arms but finding he couldn’t when his arm was stopped by the sling. “I hate this.”
“Then you shouldn’t have steered into an immovable object” she teased.
“Is everyone alright?”
