I’m rewatching Alabasta this week and it got me thinking about part of Croc’s plan. Control the water, control the people.

Kaido and Orochi did something similar, though to an even more severe degree. Poisoning the rivers, limiting water to those outside of the Flower Capital, including the baths, and so on.

Two lines about water I find interesting when contrasted are Queen’s about how humans can drown in just two inches of water. And Denjiro’s metaphorical line about women having someone be the water at their roots to be their most beautiful. It presents water as a resource that can be used in so many ways, depending on the will of the one using it.

To Toto in Alabasta and to the people of Ebisu Town inn Wano, even a small amount is seen as invaluable.

Two more uses of water I like during Wano are: Raizo saving everyone with water he only was able to get by leaving Wano, or more generally by accepting help from outside the closed country.

And Kiku being free to accept Nami’s offer to enter the bath that was previously restricted. Nami, a pirate from outside the country, being the one to offer Kiku something that she wants ties into some neat ideas about access to water being a stand in for more general freedom during the arc. Also it’s just a very lovely interaction.

Wanted to show glittery-eyed Bepo, full of love for mecha and his captain, but had to show Killer having his moment too, and then both crews fully enjoying themselves at the Flower Capital festivals.

Love how proud Usopp is (and Minatomo—the Wano carpenter), and Franky's jubilation, but mostly just wanted to show Bepo.

Dustin and Tyler have broken down the arguement perfectly. It doesn’t matter what we as readers believe Yamatos gender orientation to be. What matters is how HE refers to HIMSELF and how they have asked characters to refer to HIM.

Since intro he is quick to correct and introduce himself as Kaido’s SON. Every character in manga has done the same “young master, kaidos son, etc.” It doesn’t matter motive, doesn’t matter how you a reader interpret their whole identity and journey, doesn’t matter if they are/aren’t Oden

What matters is they have made every effort to correct and clarify that currently, they view themselves as a man (or at the very least, he does NOT EVER identify as female). So you choosing to ignore actual canon bc of some book that the publisher puts out to sucker you out of more money…don’t blame the manga author for “identity politics” when they have been drilling in through every interaction with this character, since their introduction, that this character does not identify with their birth sex.

Anybody else super annoyed by the fact that Zoro is currently awake and hardly even seems injured? He was already really messed up from that combo attack by Kaido and Big Mom, plus the drug he took was going to make it multiple times worse! Think Nami and Kiku built trust though Nami being the one who offered to help Kiku with common tasks, in the days after the battle? Nami is one of the few women who would be free to do it, isn’t royalty or married or busy with retainer duties, like the other women Kiku is close with would be.

I’m really looking forward to this scene being animated.

Hope that they play a role in the final arc (bigger than what Shanks and Whitebeard have played, in terms of page time, in the whole series). But it’s okay if they don’t. It’s Luffy’s story.

There’s always a showdown with the navy and admirals. So this isn’t surprising, but knowing where Robin is is important. Also, I should have thought about bounties before I wrote my latest fic! Fingers crossed, Bepo and Chopper’s remain low (for purely selfish reasons).
