What was zhao's character designing process like?

Hello! Thanks for asking, I'll try to keep this as simple as humanly possible-

-the beginning stages of Zhao's character

(Ignore the bad quality of the pictures, I was lazy-)

I've actually had Zhao for quite a few years now, but I think these drawings I made like 9 months ago are the oldest ones that I could find. As you can probably see, in the begging she was a primarily jttw OC, I remember being super into OSP (which I still am), so when I started watching their jttw series I immediately got to making an OC because I really liked the world and all.

There's not much to say about the design honestly. But I will say why the hair changed, back then, her hair was very tiger-y but why has it changed so much if she's still a tiger? Well it's because back then I actually really liked the hair, but as time went on I thought it was way too much. However I really got attached to the whole "Cursed for disobeying your family so that you can never forget about them when you look at your own face.", so I decided to keep the orange hair just remove the details.

However a lot of the drawings you will see still have the stripes, but you'll see how they became more and more simple over time.

(note: All of the drawings you will see of her old design are pretty old so my art skills have improved-)

When I just started watching lmk I already knew I wanted to change up her character a bit. So I did a mini re-design. Again not much to say about her design except that I wanted it to look very demon-y (because she actually used to be a tiger demoness)

However I felt she was too "soft", so I changed up her character a bit to be more cold and "mature", because I wanted her to have a bigger contrast in personality with Sun Wukong. I'll get into that later :>

And as you can see I was still experimenting with certain designs but in the end I ended up with the last one for a while.

Then something awoke in me and I was finally like: This hair is mad complicated let's simplify this sucker-

So some (a lot of) experimenting:

And with that I eventually got this kinda design:

As you can see, this is was the start of a ✨new era✨

And this design stuck for a while until I made a certain drawing for a certain @/camhues 👀

At this time I have started reading Circe and was very inspired by her character :0

She changed from being cold to more motherly. She's still mature but more clever, compassionate and caring. (yet still pathetic in my eyes). One of my friends here on tumblr @/doppel-doodles explained her PERFECTLY- "A fierce tigress in the body of a gentle mother cat" (like who gave them the right-), this explains her character very well because despite being very peaceful she's still a strong sorceress-

Now, Zhao is still kinda quiet and reserved considering her unhealthy past. But that ties a bit more into her connection with Wukong, which I'll get into in a bit.

I wanted Zhao to seem more "out of place", back then she just seemed like a basic bish girlboss OC and like someone who would make a good background character-

I also decided to give her a full name (because my dumb ahh realized Zhao is a Chinese SURNAME-) so I decided on Zhaoyan, also funfact Zhao's father used to call her "Zhaodi" because that name means "requesting a brother" (Because sexism yaaayyyyyy-)

My Zhao design is also heavily inspired by @/gigizetz Circe design, and her hair is very much inspired by Rapunzel from tangled-

And so yeah, then we got to her current design

While I can't really give anymore specific references, I can tell you a bit on how I settled on this design :D

Note: I wanted her to have a more exotic, tropical and ancient vibe if that makes sense. She is a spiritual maiden, sometimes even described as a sorceress, and considering the role I settled on giving her in the story it makes sense she would seem like "something new" or something out of the blue if you will. Even though she's a Peach Maiden, she doesn't exactly look like one, which I honestly think is really exiting to work with-

There's still some lore I haven't spilled yet that would say more about her design, but I hope to reveal that in the future!

Now, all the lore of her current character ties to one specific thing, aka her most important role in lmk- her connection to Monkey. Now as I mentioned, Zhao and Wukong were made to be opposites, or well to seem like opposites (one is chaotic and one is calm). Also the mear fact that the Chinese monkey zodiac and Chinese tiger zodiac are specifically referred to as not being able to get along so well.

But in reality they're quite similar, both get over looked because of their unthreatening personalities despite being really damn powerful. Both kinda stand out in physical appearance too compared to the other characters, and look alike in a way (same ginger hair and golden eyes). And not to mention they both push others away from them because of their pasts despite caring a lot.

A fun part about writing Zhao's character is she also serves as a way to find out more about Sun Wukong and jttw as a whole while still being her own character.

So yeah, that's basically it! Sorry for this being so fricking long I like rambling about my girl- (no I do not have a favorite lmk OC wdym?)

Wassap😼 Just wanted to ask what’s your favorite(I yapped quite a lot so you can oppenly yap as much as you like too lol):

- Food - I LOVE ice cream. Like live love laugh ice cream. Especially the one’s that they put in a cone at some cafes. The store bought one’s are alright, but nothing hits more than a fresh cone of ice cream while walking by the beach🔥 I honestly don’t understand people that prefer to eat it from those goofy ahh cups. Like who are you, some 72 year old british woman named Karen?😭

- Animal - umm I love mostly every animal. But dogs are probably my fave. I WOULD like cats more if I wasn’t allergic. Like, I’m used to dogs and was more interested in them as a kid because I just couldn’t interact with cats without getting itchy eyes and uncontrollably sneezing😭 I was like OBSESSED with dogs as a kid. That phase lasted until I was 10-11 years old. But cats are pretty cool too😼

- Colour - oof that must be a tough one. I’m not gonna be edgy and say something like black or white🙄 My fav colour has always been yellow. Although I don’t have that many coloured clothes. My fav fit is all brown😭 But brown IS a shade of yellow so…

- Song/group - ok so I’m really proud that I’ve been getting into lesserafilm because my new friend is also a kpop fan but she prefers gg, specifically lesserafilm, so I’m happy that I finally listened to some of their songs😭 I love “Impurities” and “Guardian” (lesserafilm). My second favourite group is ofc Skz. They made a LOT of 🔥 songs, but “Charmer”, “Domino”, “Surfin’ and “Megaverse” just make my nerves tingle. Enhypen is also one of my favorite groupsss. “Mortal”, “Fate”, “Chaconne”, “One In A Billion”, “Tamed-Dashed” and like a gazillion more😭. As for non-kpop… I really like “Sunflower<Post Malone>”, “Reflections<The Neighborhood>” , “Jenny from the block<Jennifer Lopez>”, most songs from Pastel Ghost’s album “Abyss” and lots of unpopular artists. I can honestly give you my spotify or sum.

Part 13 Reading erha 二哈和他的白猫师尊 + learning Chinese

I was cleaning my drawer and found two really cool washi tapes!! One has TGCF main leads and the other has MDZS side character but I totally forgot I had it?? You can see one of them in the picture below, while the other one I'll show tomorrow^^

Instead of continuing the text, I would like to analyse the title of the book.

海棠微雨 共归途 (not the erha- title that is more seen now)

For some reason, I got the version called 海棠微雨 共归途 Lovestory of the Prodigal (its title on Amazon) instead of 二哈和他的白猫老师 Dumb Husky and his White Cat Shizun (I think mine is an earlier version before all the huge publication and editing).

Translating the title directly gives something like "Begonia light rain and return home" lol.

A more accurate literal translation correlates to the characters: Haitang and Weiyu On The Way Home Together.

微雨 is Mo Ran’s, that’s the main character’s, courtesy name (Mo Weiyu) 海棠 refers to MC’s master, or shizun, who’s strongly affiliated with this flower. Haitang Blossom (海棠花, Hǎitáng Huā) is a spell, intended for silent communication specifically used by Chu Wanning, named thusly as the message is sent in the form of a Haitang Blossom (Chinese Flowering Crabapple).

Vocabulary:

海棠 - Crabapple - Hǎi Táng

Crabapple (or "Chinese flowering apple" tree) has a different leaf shape to Begonia 🌳. In poetry, it often carries connotations of elegance, beauty, and fleetingness. In Chinese culture, flowers are considered to have rich cultural and literary connotations. In literary contexts, 海棠 symbolizes homesickness, parting sorrows, and a variety of emotions such as tenderness, beauty, and fleeting happiness.

2. 微雨 - Light Rain - Wēi Yǔ

Rain can symbolize various emotions or situations, such as melancholy, renewal, or transformation.

3. 共 - Together - Gòng

4. 归 - Return - guī

5. 途 - Path/Journey - tú

归途 - Path of Return - Guī Tú

"海棠微雨" has set a poetic scene that could be associated with romantic or emotional moments. 共归途 creates a snapshot of the moment in time when the couple is on their return journey together.

Hello hello, it's the fellow Sampo's anon person again. I've literally just logged in and saw you answered my shapeshifting delusion/theory

Regarding the cat thing, well its like multiple theories connected into one so i will try my best to explain it. Firstly, there are folks that think Sampo could be a member of the Masked Fools OR Stellaron Hunters(or both even but I don't want to make this even more complicated). The highest evidence towards the Stellaron Hunter Sampo theory is that besides the three members we've seen in the game aka Kafka, Blade and Silver Wolf, there's two more confirmed ones. Firstly, there's Elio and then there's Sam. And I've seen people speculate that Sampo could be Sam because of the name similarities, (Although apparently they use different letters/symbols in Chinese version for writing those names so that's important to note) but also some folks think he might straight up be Elio because of 4th wall breaking stuff and Elio knowing everything basically.

Now on top of those speculations, there are theories that the cat in Kafka's art could be again, either Elio or Sam and therefore, maybe they are Shapeshifters. (Or maybe they're just a cat. Imagine having a playable cat. That would be wild)

So basically, because some people think that Sampo could be Sam or Elio (Sam I think is definitely more popular opinion in the Stellaron Hunter theory), and other people think that Sam or Elio could have been a cat, then, following this logic:Sampo=cat.

...gosh i sound so insane huh. I'm really sorry for this but I've dug so deep into so many different theories that people might have about this guy, that now if i get any opportunity to share a bit of the craziness I've seen, I'm taking it.

Coming really quickly back to Qingzu, you're making some great points there, I literally have no idea if he was possibly pretending to be Qingzu since we arrived in Luofu or what I-

Ahh, if the chinese characters for Sampo and Sam are different, that kinda settles it for me already. Also in Silverwolf's story IV there's a metal humanoid that follows Blade, Kafka and maybe Elio?

Either the metal humanoid is Elio, or it's Sam. Or it could be someone completely different lol

Hmm, as for Sampo = Elio, I personality don't see it. Elio so far has only been revealed to see various different futures and not outright know they're in a game.

Going to the stretch-zone for this;; But I think his fourth-wall-breaking fits more with him being tied to Elation than with the Stellaron Hunters, just bc we have more evidence that he's linked to Elation than the SH for now.

Some people speculate that because he can break the fourth wall, Elation members might also be able to break the fourth wall. With this in mind, some people speculate that part of the reason why Elation thinks existence is a joke is because they know they're in a video game. The simulated Aha in SU immediately knew they were just an equation in a computer, which leads me to believe the real Aha is equally, or possibly even more self aware, which might apply to their followers as well.

... Though, I will acknowledge that Silver Wolf is able to break the fourth wall. But I'm not sure why exactly she can ^^;

As for the cat -- as much as I'd LOVE to see a playable cat, like not a cat girl, just a walking-on-four-legs-real-ass cat -- I think this is a bit of a stretch. We barely know what Sam and Elio look like, let alone the scope of their abilities. All we know about Sam is that he takes his job very seriously

As for Qingzu, I tried to think if she was in on the plan. As in, if she was a Masked Fool as well. But I really think this is a stretch. I'm not sure how tightly government officials in the Xianzhou hold on to the beliefs of Hunt, but I just can't imagine her also being in cahoots with Elation.

If not that, then maybe it's a tavern buddy of Sampo's.

Anyways, its okay!! We are still early into the story, so it's natural that there are more questions than answers. But while we wait, it won't hurt to speculate! 👀 so lets be crazy together hahahahshajk 🤪🤪💫😜🤪💫

I've dug way too deep into this rabbit hole as well, like Sampo is so sus, there's NO WAY he's not appearing again in the story.

I'm 167cm so about 5ft6? Asian with glasses (like typical Asians sjsksjksksjsksk) A dog person but really can't resist any fluffy animals (cats, bunnies, etc) but I'm okay with reptiles too. Snakes always seems to have a huge interest in my house.?(can always see them at the stairs or sneaking into our porch every two years or so) I'm more of the museum type when I'm traveling and not keen on hiking. And I love water, swimming, kayaking, and always hope to live near the water in my future. I prefer novels more than non-novel books, and I try cooking in my spare time. Not a great cook but I'm pretty good at making Chinese food since I'm studying abroad in the UK. (Though I'm okay with steaks and spaghetti and "western food" too (sry for being stereotyping in advance)

Oh! And I'm INTP in the 16 personalities for MBTI. More often I'm an introvert and I enjoy the silence between me and my partner if we ever go out on a date. I don't feel the need to chat to fill the void.

(ngl i haven't watched the movie so i'm basing his personality off of my fics lol)

ari is definitely a dog person, i mean he's practically a golden retriever himself. he'd probably be the type of guy to surprise you with a dog when you get home for dinner. like:

"ari, what the hell???"

"what?"

"what do you mean, what? you got us a dog?!"

"oh, that old thing? yeah, that's pirogi"

"-.-, really? you named our dog after a dumpling?"

he loves traveling and is definitely into water activities, i mean his whole movie is about being a sea resort right (idk i haven't seen it 😭 i just skipped to the parts where he's shirtless and/or neked AHH WHY AM I EXPOSING MYSELF RN)of course, he wears his small-ass swim trucks for all your adventures.

he can be romantic (sometimes), like he'll kiss you under a waterfall, take you out on a row boat for a lake picnic, and take you to museums while holding your hand through every exhibit. but he'd also chuck you into the water just so he can jump in an pretend to save you, or tug on your ponytail just to annoy you lmaoo.

ari is happy to taste test your experimental recipes, he thinks it's adorable how determined you are to cook more! he can cook some stuff and he tries to help out in the kitchen, but he only has two or three things he's actually confident in, so usually he'll just stick with washing the dishes (house husband fr).

also he doesn't mind the silence either, he just enjoys holding you or hanging out in the same room. your dates are pretty lowkey bc he's not a very fancy guy. you both know that you don't need to do anything extravagant to impress each other, you just like being with one another.

If you're still taking requests, how would the chaotix celebrate their 100th case?

this might be a little tricky, but @ask-saffron-and-friends also asked for some wholesome charmy, so why not make this a reminiscing style thing?

"Another case, in the bag!" Vector announced, chucking the case file to one side. "Nice job, boys! I think this might have been our toughest case yet!"

He threw himself triumphantly into his chair, letting it roll back. Charmy buzzed in swirling patterns to Vector's side, doing little victory dances and singing a silly song to himself. Espio came in after the both of him, going off to the side to retrieve the case file.

"We should at least try to keep our documents in order.. Maybe don't throw it the second you get in... the door.." he quickly realised he was ignored and just got on with his lost cause filing.

"What d'ya say? Chinese? Chinese? I'm feeling like some orange chicken, I don't know about youse."

"I want prawn crackers!" Charmy sang out. Vector pointed in agreement, phone in hand.

"Espio? What's your pick?" Vector looked over to him, still stuck on his filing, by the looks. "Espio?"

"Vector.. Our cabinet is full.." Vector rolled his eyes.

"Then use a cardboard box! What do ya wanna eat?!"

"This was our 100th case."

Vector paused, putting the phone down. "oh..."

"We've solved 100 cases since starting our agency... today" Espio, who was usually not one for sendimentality, was clearly holding back some emotion. "I didn't realise we'd been doing this that long, but when i think about it..."

Vector leaned into his chair. It creaked under his weight. "Yea... Yea! I know exactly what ya mean, bud! When I stop to think about it, we really have been at it for a long time!"

Charmy buzzed down to sit on the desk, his fuzz getting stuck on years of coffee rings. "How long exactly? I don't remember!"

Vector chuckled warmly. "Nah, you wouldn't. You were pretty young, Charms.. I remember our first case- Remember, Espio? With the cat in that tree?"

"I remember! I remember! She was orange! And-and she scratched YOU, Vector!" Charmy called out " I wasn't that young!"

"That poor girl, she was so embarrased after you got her down.." Espio ran a finger over that first file. It was already more yellowed than the rest.

"Getting a little mushy there, Esp?" he stood up and frowned.

"Unfeeling old croc.."

A couple old files in hand, Espio pulled himself up onto the desk and flicked through the old photographs and messy notes. "I can't believe we thought these were acceptable.. look- I spelt evidence wrong here!"

Vector took one for himself "Aghhh, My thumb was on the lense here! How tragic was that? Thank gaia for smartphones, huh?"

"I think these location sketches are still pretty good!" Charmy added, pulling out a couple. "He he! Just kidding! I'm a way better artist now"

"Sure, kiddo. Give us a look at those-" as Vector took the file off Charmy, a small piece of lined paper fell out the back.

"I feel like noodles... Maybe pad thai? Just as long as it's actually spicy this time.."

Vector took the paper and gave it a look over, the handwriting wasn't great, but it just ledgible.

"You wild, Espio! Spicy makes your tummy hurt and you know it!"

"I-it does not!" (It does)

"Ahh leave off, you can have it if ya want! Now shaddup and let me read!"

Charmy blew a raspberry.

Today, we found a ring. the lady was very happy when we gave it to her. she said I was a great detective! Vector is the best boss, even if his breath is bad! And he has big teeth! Espio is an okay detective. I will teach him. I love being a detective, I'm going to be a detective forever!

"Vector? Are you ordering or... not-"

Without warning, Vector pulled the boys into a tight bear hug. Charmy squirmed in his grip but giggled. Espio frantically angled his face away from the others, only to avoid any horn mishaps and not at ALL to hide any embarrassed blushing.

"Boys, Congrats on 100 cases! Let's celebrate! Forget delivery Chinese- Let's go to the Golden Tiger!"

i’m going to start posting my dreams on here just because they are absolutely wild sometimes and i think it would make great entertainment so here’s last nights dream:

I was running from the government and i ended up in this very clean suburban town and i had grabbed an airplane to escape after mcfreaking Unikitty (yea the pink lego cat) handed me one.

The government was on my tail and no matter how hard i tried i kept on backing up into them. I somehow managed to get away from them and i drove down this very tiny (but very nice) street (with my big ahh airplane) with lots of trees and nice houses. My mom was there to pick me up and we started running away since the government was getting both of us i guess

We eventually went down with road which lead to a chinese farmers market with people selling fruits, jewelry and crafts and makeup. It was all completely shaded with tents that were yellow and orange and small foldable tables that didn’t have grand displays.

I bought an eyeshadow palette from a vendor, and when me and my mom hurried to leave because of the cops, the vendor says “always support local businesses!”

LOVES to suck your blood but unlike Jeonghan who drinks from your wrist, he drinks from your index finger

This man won't take too much, maybe just enjoy a bit

Apart of the nibble squad

He loves loves loves to nibble on your neck or just- I don't know, suck on it (give a hickey??)but he never bites there in fear that he'll kill you

This naughty vamp will tease you a lot with his powers

He will also make you unable to sleep because he stays up all night doing random stuff

He annoys you a lot with his vampire abilities and likes to transform into a bat to scare you (he learned this from Jeonghan)

But aside from being a playful vamp, he also loves to love you

He gives you a lot of back hugs & kisses

One of the toothpaste appliers

He puts toothpaste on his nose to block out your addictive blood smell

Sometimes when he kisses you, toothpaste brushes against your nose and it gets messy

Don't worry, he's also a reliable man ;)

He can kick any but with his martial art skills

Also, does anyone remember how a fan asked Jeonghan what kind of cat breed he is and he replied, “other: flying cat”

Well now he's a flying bat

This guy loves to fly in the sky at night

He might even take you with him on some flights!

PROS:

You get a fun buddy. He's very loving. Gives the best back hugs. Always smells good (because of toothpaste) and doesn't stink like blood. He is a reliable hero.

CONS:

Jun stays up all night long. He likes to drink your blood/suck your thumbs. He is too playful and gives you good scares.
