One of my bosses likes to randomly throw out religious folklore..
Today I was buying a dragon stuffie for my niece and he decided to go into the Bible lore of dragons
I responded with the lore that the elves and fae were the first children of Eve who she had not washed and tried to hide them from God and he turned them invisible and they and their generations after took to the trees and hills cursed to be “ The Hidden Ones”.
He was shooketh. He changed the subject to beetles that shoot chemicals like fire.
I love lore.

Solidarity between all religions, especially between those threatened by colonialism! Pagans, polytheists, and witches of all creeds unite for Palestine!
Share:
Prayers
Offerings
Protest posters
Spells
News
Donations
And other symbols of solidarity colored by your faith!
Never before in history had we the tools for everyone, all over the world, to resist genocide simultaneously and with such fierceness. Everything you do to keep eyes on Gaza counts. Every prayer, every action, it all amounts to something grander.
Keep talking about Israel’s genocidal, colonialist ‘war’ against Palestine. Keep praying. The divine are with us.

weird tangent of the day: witchcraft has a finance problem
I think there is a high probability that I would be a witch if I liked spending money. I've been leaning in a kind of witchcraft-y direction for about four or five years now. I currently attend a Quaker meeting but it's a very kind of new-agey, universalist sort of group where that kind of synchretism wouldn't be completely unheard of.
The problem is, modern witchcraft as a group of religions (I use it as an umbrella term that includes Wicca & others) is a religion that implicitly requires you to have things. To do a spell you need to have all sorts of items: candles, oils, crystals . . . things that I don't want to be spending money on when I could be buying other things I need and/or want. Even if I did have endless money to throw around, I live in a loft that's about twenty feet wide, and I have to go downstairs to get to the kitchen. I don't have space to store all of the things you're told you need to have to be a witch.
The things you need to be a witch have been a severe barrier to taking up the practice for me. And the more I sit in this, the more I explore also the thought processes of occultists like Osman Space who put forth systems you can use with only pen and paper, the more I have come to realize that motern witchcraft is a religion that, even if unintentionally, gatekeeps the poor and those living in high density situations. It's something I think modern witches need to reckon with.
Because I'd like to be one of you. But I can't if it means being told implicitly over and over again that I need to have all these things.

I think the biggest issue I have with "blessed be" is that it's just, cultural Christianity repackaged, pagan edition.
White gentile witches who are like, "it's just a form of greeting and well wishing", except it's not. "It's just like people who say 'merry Christmas' to everyone and they mean well", except that's actually not cool with a lot of people, for good and valid reasons. "Why are you so sensitive over nothing? It's not that big a deal", except it's not nothing and it's a big deal for a lot of us, and where have we heard exactly this before. "I have no problem with it, why should you? I'm a witch and I'm ok with it, so you should be, too", my sibling in Christ do you really not realize how cultural Christian and colonialist you sound here.

im sooooo sick of neopagans thinking they invented stuff that literally every religion thats not modern american evangelicalism already has 💀 i dont care if u want to light candles in ur bedroom or whatever, but even when youre swinging at “normie” religions ur still missing like okay catholics LOVE altars. jewish liturgy celebrates moon cycles. whatever youre trying to articulate about an all encompassing divinity of universal love was probably said in verse by a persian muslim centuries ago. your american christian/atheist background is a huge outlier in the global history of religion: it’s not even that you’re missing some niche exception, it’s literally that your entire perspective on “organised religion” is based on an outlier 💀

Revisited a story that was very important to me as a child, and learned about the author being very vocal about the harm gender roles & stereotypes cause. I thought "oh that's great!" but was afraid. What if she only applied that logic to cis ppl?
I did some searching, and found out that not only does she support trans ppl, but has also spoken multiple times about how important it is to be able to see protagonists outside of the perceived norm. A.K.A., she doesn't see my very existence as wrong.
I let out a deep sigh of relief. I could continue to enjoy this thing that had been so important to me growing up.
But this isn't the first time something like this has happened. Too often I discover a new artist, or even be unsure of one I've enjoyed the work of for a long time up to the present; and I have to desperately search to know if I can enjoy their work. Either I am extremely relieved, or absolutely crushed.
This shouldn't be necessary. I shouldn't be feeling this deep fear that something so important to me, was created by someone who despises my very existence. That I, as a disabled queer femme ex-mormon Pagan witch who was raised like a girl, will be shoved off the emotional cliff of "this person you looked up to hates you for the same reason all bigots do".
I was so terrified that something that meant so much to me as a kid could've shattered me emotionally. Simply because I didn't know if the person who made it hates people like me.
We shouldn't have to live like this.

After pointing out that there is no record of Christmas Trees existing in Germanic Yule celebrations (cuz, y'know, they weren't invented until the 16th century), this dude in a TikTok comment section just tried to tell me that Christmas trees are Celtic.
I just... wanna both laugh and cry sometimes.

The problem with evaluating Wicca here is that almost no one on this site has run into their local, hardcore Gardnerian High Priest and told him he's a fluffy bunny because he follows the 3 Fold Law.
Please note that I am not recommending this approach, though most likely he'll just chuckle and walk away.
But "book Wicca" and the Initiatory Traditions are worlds apart.

Not to knock Christianity, but...
I was a Bible scholar and historian for decades. The go-to person in my former church's Bible study classes.
But, when a long-time friend got up in the pulpit to blame all the world's ills on LGBTQ+ people, preached how we need to be burned, killed, to stop us from "infesting" society and "ruining" Christian children...I got up and walked out. I'm a lesbian. I couldn't stay in a church/belief system where I'm hated and condemned to "hell." I returned to my Wiccan roots and have never looked back.

I run a discord server called Garden of Eden. It has 400+ members. It's a general religion and spirituality server for all people and faiths, mainly for discussions and community rather than debate. We watch shows, and anime, play games, share art, talk about stuff unrelated to religion, and so on. Everyone is welcome, no matter their faith or background. We have a friendly community and love getting new members, so please message me or reply to the post if you want to join.
(If you just like the post without messaging or replying, I won't assume you want a link.)

Like, really, you can just, you know, respect people's boundaries and not "bless" them for any reason once they tell you they'd rather you not do that.
