Welcome friend, VenuLife is looking for talented believers of Jesus Christ to come to the frontlines. Have you been called to serve in ministry, but the church tells you that there's no room or that you need to "prove" yourself before you can join or start a church ministry? Mark 1:17 Jesus called out to them, "Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!" Ephesians 2:10 For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Jeremiah 1:5 "I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born I set you apart and appointed you as my prophet to the nations." For years I have always known that I had a calling to serve in ministry. In a few cases I was held back from serving and in others I was given opportunities to serve. There's nothing worse than being told that you need to prove yourself in church before your given a position in ministry, especially when you know you’ve been called. Although, your calling into ministry has been ignored or simply put on hold, Jesus tells us to keep going forward and to use your God given talents. Philippians 3:12-14 I don't mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. The only thing I liked about going to church as a little kid was going in the parking lot to check on the koi (???) in the pond. There were many years when the surface of the pond would freeze right over in winter and early spring, sometimes multiple times a month, but you could still see them swimming around in there.
I cringe a bit now realizing that it’s more than likely the groundskeeper/random churchstaff of the week probably had no clue how to properly care for them but kid me had SOME fun there at least.

The beginning.
This woman was beloved by everyone. On Sundays she was in front with her arms up. She made eye contact as you told her secrets. You could tell her secrets. I told her secrets. And she still wanted me on staff.
She sensed I wanted family and stability. I did. I still do. Above all, she believed in me. She saw the best in me. Only a few years older than I, she made me feel like a child. She was the epitome of an old soul.
I said ‘no’ a few times. But finally I said yes. And I became a full time staff member of a church. In spite of being in charge of the children’s ministry, my title was to be ‘children’s coordinator’. The board wanted me to ‘grow into the role’. I think they were always looking for someone better. Someone who wasn’t American. Someone who cared more for systems than people.
This woman was my ‘line manager’ for the first 6 months. She had my back. In a meeting with myself and the youth pastor, her husband, she told him, ‘don’t put more on Amanda’s plate’. He was vying for me to do extra on Sundays. But she stood up for me. I don’t know if she knows what she taught me.
She taught me about diplomacy and professionalism in the workplace. She showed me how to see the good in people and situations. She showed me compassion when no one else seemed to care. She showed me how to bow out with as much grace as possible. Friend, short term mentor, and one of the main reasons that I joined and quit the staff.
