When the first world war started, Mary Lennox was 23 and is sent out to the front lines to be a nurse. Her husband Dickon Sowerby, and her cousin, Collin Craven, both perish in the Battle of Somme. When the war ends, instead of going back to Yorkshire she goes to live with her sister in law Martha Sowerby in Birmingham. Still in contact with her uncle, she receives a monthly salary from him that allows her to help support both her and Martha.

I don't know of anyone else had made this post but I stated thinking about the Names in what we do in the shadows so i googled the meanings and Holy fuck I don't regret

Starting with Guillermo

His name is a Hispanic version of the name Willehem or William that means fierce protector and de La Cruz means of the Cross, but this isn't just a reference to his status as a vampire killer as the cross is usually a metaphor for sacrifice and pain his name is literally "overprotective of his sacrifice " which is perfect for him as Guillermo do spend most of his time actively taking care of things that cause him suffering

Now Nadja we don't have her maiden name but her first name means Hope her name is Hope of Antipaxos and again fucking perfect as Nadja ad a character is full of a cruel sense if eternal Hope she is the only surviving child of 17 siblings survived extreme poverty and all other horrible things and of course she is tied to her land her homeland despite being far from it she is from antipaxos and proud despite the place being called many times by the show "small" and quite shitty

Now Laszlo is interesting as his name fells opossite to him his name means glorious Ruler, his last name is Cravensworth doesn't have a translation but it can be separated in two parts Cravens meaning coward and worth meaning value or valuable so his name Would be Glorious Ruler coward worthy, Laszlo hates to rule he is disgusted with the idea to take leadership of the vampiric council, he is far from a coward he does runaway sometimes but he takes many chances to be brave (defending Guillermo, choosing Nadja, killing gregor) but the worthy part it depends on what is considered worthy as if we take a nobleman concept of worthiness he isn't he is a whoreman married to a peasant who drinks blood and prefer arts not policts so he isn't worthy of the noble class

(He is also called Leslie the name translates to holly garden which is apparently a reference to the Holly plant a plant associated with fertility and eternal life also red like blood)

Now nandor the relentless , Nandor means bold voyager or journey prepared, and oh my God the layers on this, like starting with the second part of his name relentless it's pretty obvious thus mf will die before admiting doing anything less than perfect or great but the traveler part it's just sweet Nandor is in need of change that's the point of his character he needs to move forward to travel not on a literal sense but on a emotional sense to mature and grow to learn, he is a brave character who needs to move to stop being stagnant.

Now collin is so interesting like Collin means Victory of the people and Robinson means son of Robert and Robert in it self means bright fame and I dont know what to associate him with except his short campaign for comptroller bit like his real name Arthur Simon santino is more interesting Arthur means Strong as a bear Simon to be heard santino means little Saint, Strong as a bear we all saw how he can be OP in the episode he overfed the irony of a energy vampire being named "to be heard" just gets me and little saint I can only think of his time as baby Colin

As it is the season, can you share some Halloween headcanons with us please?

Louis starts wearing sweaters the moment the temperature dips below 70 F/21 C at night. He has a whole collection of medium-weight sweaters for October and November (ribbed cashmere for autumn, alpaca cable knit for winter). This is also when the the heated blanket Lestat bought him comes out, it's like a heat lamp for a lizard

Every year, they take a couple's trip to New England to look at the best fall leaves. Provincetown is their favorite for longer stays, but they had a great time in Salem. Louis loved the macabre history and Lestat loved the tourist traps

When the humidity drops, Lestat's curls get less poofy and more defined. Louis always musses them up as covertly as he can so they're fluffy again

Sometimes they put spiced cider or mulled wine to simmer on the stovetop just for the scent and warmth

Walmart and brass buttons are good, but every holiday season they go to big box stores just to stare at the seasonal items. Fall is no exception with all the brightly colored plastic masks, glittery silk leaves, different shapes and sizes of pumpkins and gourds, strange costumes, candy in shiny wrappers, and horror movie posters.

Lestat is the most festive of the two of them in terms of holiday kitsch, but Louis finds it cute so he always hires professional decorators to make Lestat's Halloween vision come to life (there's a theme every year)

Louis' Halloween guilty pleasure is slasher movies. He pretends to find them low-brow and tacky, but he's actually transfixed by the gore. He has to feed first though or the Wes Craven corn syrup blood FX make him a little nutty

His real favorite activity is handing out Halloween candy (he's determined to be The Good House) and always has more king-sized candy bars than the neighbors. He doesn't like to dress up for this part of the evening, but he always puts a little fake blood around his mouth and lets his fangs show

Lestat goes the full nine yards for the kids, alternating between full tradvamp regalia and sexy vampire slutfit. He's done normal and sexy versions of Dracula (Lugosi AND Oldman), Count Orlok, Edward Cullen, Damon Salvatore, Spike Buffy, Barnabas Collins, David Lost Boys, Count von Count, and even Bunnicula (that one was bedroom only, a Playboy bunny costume with fake blood made of carrot juice)

He has gotten plastic vampire teeth stuck on his real fangs (twice)

Lestat insists on couple's costumes for their Halloween party every year. In exchange for his cooperation, Louis is allowed to choose his preferred character of the two. Lestat always makes sure any non-hot characters are properly sexy-fied when he's done with them though. They've done Gomez and Morticia, Victor van Dort and Emily, Jack and Sally, Beetlejuice and Lydia, Chucky and Tiffany, The Mad Hatter and the White Rabbit, to name a few. And once werewolves (he thinks it's funny).

History

Emira was born to two witches whose families wanted their bloodlines to blend.

Though not in love, her parents tried to make it work, eventually having Emira but once she was brought into it the relationship didn’t really last long.

Her mother never remarried, though she did meet a man that she became involved with

Emira came into her powers at a young age, her mother beginning to teach her and helping her to hone her powers.

Upon graduation (with two years of college already under her belt thanks to dual enrollment), Emira moved to Chicago to attend University of Chicago, earning her undergrad degree, grad degree, and her law degree. It was here that she met her eventual baby daddy, though things didn't end up working out, she's grateful that they stayed cordial for the sake of their son, Axel, whom they share 50/50 custody with. She also met Camila, someone she had known about from back home in her coven but never really actually spoke to. The two hit it off almost instantly and Camila has since become the one constant and important person in her life aside from Axel and Camila's daughter, Karina. Raising their kids alongside each other and opening their partner firm has been nothing less of a dream come true in her opinion.

A year later, Roxy met Jamie Carter after spending an entire day hunting down the man for robbing her small bakery.

About a year ago, Emira was caught by the OEA and sacrificed. Axel has remained in his father's custody and now that she's back, Emira is determined to get her son back as well as put an end to the OEA once and for all, to the point of throwing away her morals to do so.
