In a rare but delightful turn of events, the Young Wizards seiyuu reading play is currently up for (paid) streaming with English subs until Chirstmas 2022!! It was written by the same playwright who wrote the original Mars Red reading play, which was adapted into one of my favourite anime of 2021

If you’re up with your Japanese folklore, it’s an original story inspired by a Kabuki play, about the younger years of Abe no Seimei (Mamoru Miyano) and Ashiya Doman (Yuichi Nakamura), also featuring Minamoto no Raikou (Junichi Suwabe), Sakata no Kintoki (Daisuke Namikawa), Enju (Akari Kito), Fujiwara no Michinaga (Kenjiro Tsuda) and Kuzonoha (Romi Park) - and there’s a live band with one of the singers being Lyn Inaizumi of Persona 5 fame

If you’re not up with your folklore, it’s still a captivating story with a bunch of seiyuu going off the absolute shits in terms of belting out these lines plus some great lighting work and luxe costumes, so I highly recommend checking it out anyway

cleo's episode is genuinely like a zombie apocalypse film. like. day starts as normal -> oh shit a death. anyway -> oh shit another death right in front of us -> huh that lot are acting a little weird -> oh shit more deaths -> whats this new weird gang thats sprung up -> carry on business as usual, new gang seems to be getting bigger -> other people are also weirded out -> "hey that new gang is made up of all the dead people" -> someone overhears vital information -> gather with other survivors to inform them -> agree that whatever it is, it's spreading -> zombie film reference -> set up fort -> survivors get picked off one by one -> pov character doesnt become a zombie but loses almost everyone to the infection

can't stop thinking about how in dmc jack treated james like a dog (whistling when he wanted him to start digging for the chest, the deleted scenes with giving him the other shovel to carry + having him clean his boot) and james takes it first because of wanting to stay by elizabeth but then because he was waiting for his moment to take the letters of marque + either the compass or chest and get his life back

and of course he gets the letters and the heart and gives them to beckett --

only for beckett to treat him like a dog as well ("you summoned me," the sending off/shooing gesture on the dutchman when it was time to drop off the chest, "he'll obey it's what he does") but this time james has to take it because he sees no other path

Anyway my computer trouble is not the wildest thing to happen to me yesterday/today.

A strong contender was viewing a house without a bathroom, where the shower is a stall next to the back door where if you step out past the curtain you are fully naked in full view of the kitchen sink.

However, that does not take the crown.

No, that goes to the water company. Yesterday I was plagued and besieged by incessant noise until I left for my partner's before having my morning coffee (this will become important), and discovered on the way out that the water company had blocked off the main access lane to my building, so I had to go out through the garden; this meant I'd have to come in by going around the block (up a hill) bc the garden isn't accessible from the outside. Okay, fine. Sometimes works happen.

I drop by mid-afternoon and see that the road's fully dug up. Annoying, but I'm only dropping by; I grab a can of coke (again, important) and leave again. I'm mildly irritated that we weren't warned and now I have to go up the hill to get back in, but that's all.

I get back in the evening; the road is still dug up. Ugh. I go to the loo and wash my hands. This is, crucially, the first time I've used the water in my flat since my morning cuppa at 7am. The water explodes out of the tap, brown.

Uh oh. Now, I was lucky in that my hot water gets taken in the night before, heated up, and sits in its own tank during the day; I could draw off that water into the kettle and all the clean cups I had and be reasonably sure it came from Sunday, aka before the works happened. So I had some water. But it's late, the phone lines are shut, and I figure it's not technically an emergency because they already know about it.

Also, when I go to look for the contact details, I discover my laptop thinks it doesn't have a network adaptor. Which, I'm sorry to say, took priority.

So this morning I check it; it's not exploding anymore, and it's cloudy rather than brown, but I still don't trust it. I figure once my partner wakes up I'll go take the little water carrier we have for camping down and fill up there. But I want to know what's going on and how long I have to plan for. So I call the water company when lines open.

The verdict, after two holds?

"Uhhhhhhh, we're going to have to call the depot and get them to call you, our map's not showing any operations in your area..."

i have a weird fascination with the "I saw my fair lady/I sort of enjoyed it" line in Opening doors and the different ways different actors deliver it so here's my personal read on all of them

Jim Walton (1981): it sounds like he's really just stating his opinion as straight as he can at first glance but there's a slight pain in his voice. he's not truly happy about liking My fair lady. he's trying to hide this fact though.

Malcolm Gets (1994): genuine surprise. he's not ashamed at all of enjoying my fair lady but he didn't expect to. it sounds more like a question than a statement in this version. my favorite delivery of this line but that might be because I'm biased.

Colin Donnell (2013): he's also surprised but in a different way. there's no question behind his tone. he is sure that he enjoyed it but he still didn't expect to. he's just pleasantly surprised.

Jonathan Groff (2023-24): the guiltiest of guilty pleasure deliveries. he is 100% sure he enjoyed it but he's straight up ashamed of it. completely. he doesn't want to admit to liking My fair lady. and yet. he still did. sort of.
