I think Rocket's actually smarter than Tony in the sense that Tony has a bunch of super advanced tools. Sure a good amount of them he probably invented but we also know he steals inventions. He stole Quentin's hologram tech, who knows what else he didn't make. Tony has notepads and things to write stuff down, to visualise what he's doing, to keep track of equations. Rocket needs none of that, I've never seen him write down anything, it appears he can just do quantum mechanics in his head. Really the only Deus ex Machina tech Tony made that we see is the Arc Reactor. Rocket as you said regularly builds shit he's probably never conceived of before in minutes.
YESSSSSSS
all of this
great points, great points
i know iw/endgame were meant to serve a specific purpose of wrapping up the og avengers storylines but im like…. you all were like “how do make time machine?” and didn’t immediately call the guy who probably has to do regular maintenance (with unique upgrades) to make his spaceships survive literal jumps through the space/time continuum??
(everyone talks about the bowie’s ridiculous ship design but i headcanon that the mechanics of it generate a way of either condensing information or creating an “information shield” that allow for less wear-and-tear AND/OR outright danger of improper reconstitution through the jump-points if we assume they operate through mechanics similar to current theories on teleportation? has there been any canonical talk of how jump points work?)
anyway tony’s like. fine. i guess. but rocket was an underutilized resource, constantly & repeatedly & vocally underestimated & underappreciated by the avengers. possibly because of classism, or possibly because they continually are like (insert snooty condescending voice) “he eats trash! he’s a raccoon!”

So I'm rewatching link click with a friend of mine
I have a few points I'd like to make (and can't because some of them are spoilers, first one isn't tho):
1 - WHAT DO YOU THINK WOULD HAPPEN IF CHENG XIAOSHI ENTERED A FOTOCOPIED PICTURE Ok this may seem weird but hear me out: a photocopy of a picture is, in essence, a photo of said picture. Would Cheng Xiaoshi go back to the point in which the photo was photocopied? Would he just skip that and go to the og photo? And same question about pictures of pictures, as in when you use you phone to register an old revealed photo. Would he go to the point in which the person took the picture? Would he enter the photo inside the picture? Is there a way to choose in this case? now onto the spoilers
2 - I am so fucking sad. Whenever Lu Guang talks about death nodes with Cheng Xiaoshi he sounds so miserable. I didn't realize it before — like, I did see that he was sad, but I didn't even imagine the reason, I just thought he felt bad for Cheng Xiaoshi.
Like, look at his face while he tells Cheng Xiaoshi that he can't change what's happened, that all he's seeing is a glimpse of the past:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the face of a man who is not alright.
And in the next shot, when he says death is an inevitable node, he sounds so quiet. Like it pains him to think about it. Because he's trying to change the past. And if he doesn't succeed, he'll lose Cheng Xiaoshi forever.
That's why in this episode he talks so much about how innocent people could die. Because it has already happened. I suspect (not my theory but one that I saw around on tumblr) that Emma's death happened because Lu Guang is changing the past. Which makes me very worried there'll be a bad ending but I trust the authors to come up with a good Deus Ex Machina to make it work-
3 - THE FACE LU GUANG MAKES IN THE NEXT EPISODE
Tumblr media
The dad comes into the shop asking for help to find his son and Cheng Xiaoshi is like "the past already happened and can't be changed so like lol" while Lu Guang looks at him like:
Tumblr media
"OH SO NOW YOU'RE SAYING THAT? AFTER YOU GAVE ME THE HARDEST TIME OF YOUR LIFE AND PUNCHED ME? YOU MOTHERFU-"
(they made up afterwards tho I love lu guang's little sneeze)

k so why did the advertising in the flash movie heavily focus on kara when she was barely in the movie only to die??
i was bombarded with advertisements for the flash when it was coming out - and it was almost all barry running and kara showing up in her suit and using her heat vision. i can't even remember if the other timeline barry or batman show up in the ads (either batman version).
i had no desire to watch the movie, but thought it was great that supergirl was back on the big screen in such a major movie. and having her be so different to previous version was so cool - she's latino! she's more masc looking!
anyway it was my dad's birthday and he wanted to watch the flash but i cannot believe how disappointed i was with kara's treatment?
not kara herself - sasha did an amazing job (especially considering), sad but interesting backstory, intriguing character, she's badass and conflicted and has a cool suit.
but she only shows up like over an hour and a half into the movie!? she has what, maybe 15 lines? if i'm being generous. in her first fight she decimates her captors despite being seriously depleted - in her second (and last) fight she's kicking zod's ass only to have him Suddenly Win. for plot reasons. and brutally murder her on screen.
zod stabs kara with some deus ex machina weapon that he's apparently saved until now and it just makes her completely helpless. and then she's stabbed again by some experimental tech and has her blood drained. and then she dies.
despite being... kryptonian. like was it a kryptonite weapon? that wasn't made clear. she survived decades in captivity surrounded by kryptonite but This Weapon is what gets her. despite the sun. idk.
And if that wasn't insulting enough - she dies again. and again. and again. because barry 2.0 can't accept her death and keeps going back in time to change it. there's a montage of kara dying. in different ways. sometimes not even with the stabbing thing? she's just suddenly outmatched?? barry gets stabbed by the kryptonian weapons and just keeps going.
og batman dies twice - being blown up and then dying in the arms of his friend. he gets his moment, he gets his last lines. kara never gets that. kara always dies alone, her body lying on the ground in display of barry's "failure".
and then she's not mentioned again?? because the movie doesn't think she matters at all! only in relation to barry's story!
it's such a textbook example of the 'women in refrigerators' trope and it's so fucking annoying that this trope is still used, especially in superhero media! so incredibly sexist and ridiculous - poor writing and poor character treatment.
i have very little faith that the dc movies could do any justice to kara after this, but saying that they Are going to make a supergirl movie and not even telling sasha if she's going to be cast in it or not like how dirty can you do this poor actor who quite frankly was already the best part of your basic movie?

After swooning over the men in Deus Ex despite their crunchy early 2000's polygons, you know, I get it now. And I will never again make fun of people who had a crush on the og Tomb Raider lady. ✌️😔

so since the live action atla came out, i’ve been seeing a lot of hot takes about the original show that honestly kind of surprise me. one is that the introduction of the lion turtle and energy bending is apparently considered lazy writing just so aang could defeat ozai without killing him. curious to hear your thoughts on this. i thought that the idea of energy bending made a lot of sense and the whole caveat being that he had to make sure the other bender’s energy didn’t overtake his own actually made a lot of sense to complement some of his other arcs.
Oh yeah, those aren’t really hot takes, they’ve been pretty common criticisms of the show since the OG aired. It’s considered lazy/coincidental because it’s seen as the writers having wrote themselves into a corner with how to defeat Ozai without killing him, and they just threw in energy bending. The criticisms also say that it makes Aang appear selfish because he had the opportunity to kill Ozai in the moment and chose not to without any kind of backup plan or idea of how to defeat him and then suddenly he could energy bend. Also, while we see Ty Lee block the chi of benders throughout the series, no one ever talks about energy bending and we don't see Aang “earn” the ability to do so, so it seems rather convenient that he just can at the right time. Basically, it’s a deus ex machina. I understand the criticisms but it didn't really bother me. I like the reveal of the energy bending. I don’t think it would’ve been as powerful or badass of a scene if we saw Aang training for it beforehand personally.
