Not my Circus
A/N: I hate my brain and it's suckish timing...
Danny was a circus kid. He knew that, and so did his parents. Well, the once that took him in when he was five. He knew he had a loving family before the Fentons. Yet he doesn't know himself why he never put in more effort to return to them. No, wait, he had an idea what his five years old mind could have been thinking.
If Freakshow and his mockery of a circus had never shown up in Amity. Then Danny might have pushed the thought of his original family to the side forever. He had been a foolish kid back then, reckless and tempramental, unlike his older brother. He had tried to follow into his parents' and brother's footsteps, but he wasn't as graceful or acrobatic as they were. It was irony really with how much he liked flying and doing tricks in the air now. But still he remembered having a lot of frustrated fights with his brother about his inability to be like them.
When he got reminded he started to do a bit of a more serious research again and when he found out about his originals parents death half a year after he was first declared missing from the circus as well as his older brothers having gotten adopted too, he had dropped it all again. Pushing all of that back into the deepest depths of his mind again. His older brother was doing well. There was no need for him, for Danny.
That went well until Jazz went to university in Gotham and convinced him to go there to collage too, when he sort of forcefully retired from being a teen hero. It went well for a couple of years until his mid twenties.
Because despite Gotham being a city way bigger than Amity, there were still chances of you running into certain people.
The moment he entered the coffee shop and saw the others face, everything he had pushed aside in his mind came right back to the forefront of his mind.
How he foolishly trained in acrobatics behind his families back after another fight while they were moving towns and fell off the wagon.
How he had felt like he enjoyed not feeling presured to be like them and didn't put too much effort into returning to them when he was with the Fenton as well as thinking that his elder brother was probably happier without a stubborn little brother.
How when he looked them up he dropped it just as fast when he learned about their deaths and his elder brothers adoption.
He blinked wide-eyed at the man that stood before him a teen next to him while he held two cups of coffees. He, too, was staring at Danny frozen.
Now Danny had several options of how to handle the situation. And he most likely didn't choose the best one at first as usual. Because what he did in response at seeing Richard 'Dick' Grayson was to turn tail and run even using is invisibility and intangiblity.
What Danny didn't know was that Dick's first, thought, was someone cloned him and not that his missing brother from his days before the Waynes was back.
Thus a game of mouse was started...

putting my hands on your shoulders looking directly into your eyes why are you so insistent that Dazai is faking every emotion every second of every day except when he's acting mean or evil why do you think his dark side is more true than his happier or sillier sides
do you not also have multiple facets you show different people? are we not all beautiful multifaceted individuals? are your actions and reactions not influenced by your emotions and state of mind?
can't he laugh at his own jokes? can't he fondly think of the Agency? can't he be dramatic because he wants to? can't he be surprised by something suddenly happening, even if he knew it would happen? do you not jump when the jack in the box gets out even if you were the one working the mechanism?
why would the mean persona be more real? why would any and all joy be faked? why are you only allowing him misery?
#sorry i saw one too many posts talking about dazai's ''masks'' and how he hides his true self from the ada#and what of it if he still has the potential to hurt others? what of it if he's good at hurting? every day he chooses not to lean into it#not too far at the very least.#isn't kyouk.a skilled at killing? did she not choose not to do it?#i'm not saying dazai's never acting (because it does happen) i'm saying too many people are too quick to brush off-#every non-serious non-mean emotion as ''playing an act''#why would the mean persona not be a fake?? you thought about that??? what biases are you holding here#he makes jokes. he acts silly. he's a drama queen. he loves it.#you know what IS tiring? having to look evil and untouchable and impassive in front of a whole organization every day as a teenager#as soon as he gets to lupin with od.a and ang.o he goes silly mode. heck- when he *met* ang.o it was because he went silly mode.#as soon as chuuy.a is in proximity he starts yelling children's insults and starts stupid competitions#his silly mode is just as integrated into his personality as the capacity to be the scariest most evil person you've seen#they are not mutually exclusive and having the capacity for either does not mean acting on them#as asagiri said in an interview: bsd isn't about change it's about adaptation. kyouk.a has the talent to kill. she just chooses not to.#dazai has the skills to be evil. he just chooses good.#that got long in the tags sorry#apparently i talk sometimes

I genuinely remain confounded by the two sides to the Tech debate in this fandom. I've seen so many people on the Tech Lives side proclaim that they will be attacked, or insulted or made fun of for their ideas, all while they argue that those who see Tech as dead do so only because they want him dead since he's "autistic".
I've seen people on the Tech is Dead side go out of their way to comment unnecessarily on people who want him back with their beliefs on his death. This is unnecessary, just as it is unnecessary for those who believe or want Tech alive to make assumptions about those who believe the opposite.
That multiple people believe that is why someone may believe he's dead is confounding. The idea that Tech may be dead is not predicated on a hatred for autistic people, or autistic like characters. It isn't malicious for people to either want him alive, or to have accepted his death.
Frankly, it is tiring how the main focus of Tech's entire being since season two is that he died, and he's potentially autistic (The Crossing included, he never has been outright confirmed as such). He is so much more than that, and deserves to have people focus on him aside from just his death.
Curate your fandom experience by muting words or tags that may upset you.

Three hands of blackjack in, and Doc’s honestly not sure he’s picked up on Ren’s intentions yet. It should be obvious; he’s a secessionist, and any crown looking for further power knows what it must do with secessionists. He’s even cracking down on it. Doc’s seen the sign outside the portal in the shopping district. Bold. Fast way to make the other Hermits dislike him - Doc would know. Instead, though, Ren invites him over, and Doc arrives with all of his excuses, and instead of deploying any of them, Ren has them playing cards.
He’s oddly silent. It’s making Doc fidgety a little bit. Ren isn’t a quiet guy. Months on a van, real or unreal, with the guy, are enough for Doc to be pretty confident in saying that one, and when Octagon is thrown into the mix, well, all Doc’s saying is that it’s strange that Doc’s the one fidgeting in his chair while Ren sits, still and confident and silent, and wins another game of blackjack.
It’s getting to Doc’s head. It’s also blackjack. This should be half luck. Maybe the illustrious king is cheating. Bankrupt as much morally as his vaults are in diamonds. That would be fitting.
(Maybe Doc’s bitter.)
It takes four more hands, each of them lost, too, for Doc to throw the cards down on the table and look up at Ren. “Look, man. I agreed to come play your games, though, uh, I didn’t know it would mean so literally. You’ve gotta tell me what you’re doing here, man.”
“Can’t two bros have a game night?” Ren says. It’s the first words he’s said all night that aren’t just him indicating what he’s doing with his cards.
“Not like this! And, uh, not sure we’re bros at the moment, Ren. Sorry.”
“I’ll deal another hand,” Ren says.
“No, you won’t,” Doc says.
“Yes, I will. You threw your cards face-up man. I’m not playing with all your hand shown.” Before Doc can explain that’s not the problem, Ren’s scooped up the cards and started shuffling the deck again. The sound of the cards shuffling against each other grates against Doc’s ears. Lowly, he starts to hiss. He doesn’t do that often, so the level of frustration should be clear.
Ren deals out another hand. He raises an eyebrow at Doc. Doc’s hiss turns into a growl back into a hiss into silence. He looks at his cards.
He puts his cards down again. Fine. If he plays into it a little. “Just tell me why I’m here,” Doc says.
“Maybe I’ve missed you,” Ren says. “I didn’t ask for you to leave, man. You just did. Maybe I’ve missed you.”
“You’re the one who asked us to throw our diamonds into a hole,” Doc says.
“Is that what my friendship’s worth?” Ren says.
“I don’t know, man! Maybe it’s more than that. You haven’t reached out before now,” Doc says. “Besides, you aren’t great with the whole power thing. You’re like me like that. Tend to get a little loopy with it.”
Ren looks at his cards and looks at Doc. “Do you want a deal?”
Doc looks at his hand. Eight of diamonds, six of spades.
“Hit me,” he says.
Nine of clubs. Bust. Ren flips over his own hand. Seven of hearts, nine of diamonds. He doesn’t bother getting any cards. He sweeps them into the pile again and starts silently dealing once more.
“I’m going to throw you in jail,” Ren says.
“Eh, I mean, that’s what I thought when I got here, man. You aren’t going to succeed,” Doc says.
“I just want to play blackjack,” Ren says.
“Stop this king business then,” mutters Doc.
“You aren’t getting it,” Ren says.
“Then explain it to me! Explain what’s wrong with you, and just stop all of this!”
“No. I’m dealing another hand.”
“Just throw me in jail!”
“Is that what you want?”
“Just -”
“I’m dealing another hand,” Ren says, and he deals another hand in the strange and dark castle Doc has found himself sitting in. Doc shouldn’t have come, and Doc should leave now, while Ren is still staring at him and intensely dealing cards instead of imprisoning him or stopping all this king nonsense. He doesn’t. He slumps in his chair and looks at his cards again.
“I don’t know man. I just want to play cards too,” Doc says.
“Yeah,” Ren says.
“How much longer?”
“Not much.”
“Fine,” Doc says, and he feels to make sure he still has his sword. He does.
They play the next hand.

Continuing the theme of showing the cast and their tragic losses to show how they can relate to Evil Wolverine’s motivation, we have Mokona thinking of CLOW REED.
WHICH IS NOT WHAT I WAS EXPECTING.
And yet yes absolutely, Mokona was made by Yuuko and Clow - and they adore Yuuko, so maybe they adored Clow too. And Clow is dead.
THAT is an insight into a grief I didn’t know Mokona had, and I kind of love that. To frame Clow Reed as someone to be missed in the same way that Yuuko does. And maybe Mokona is also thinking of how much Yuuko misses Clow, and also has that part of her that wishes very badly to bring him back, but Knows she can’t.
(Or maybe she’s thinking of something that Clow Reed did? Did he also try to bring someone back, and did he also realise it was impossible? Did he still try anyway? And was it Yuuko, or is her death imagery unrelated to this?)
Meanwhile add Lava Lamp to the grief agenda also - and in a way, Evil Wolverine IS right about Lava Lamp being more similar to him than the rest. He’s the one STILL obsessively trying to save Sakura, even though we’ve seen her die on screen twice in the present. And he’s given up EVERYTHING to save her - he wished away his entire future to have a chance to undo her curse, and from the tone of his voice here he wasn’t successful.
I am still loving the parallels between them, especially because it hints that there are some… let’s say Hard decisions ahead of Lava Lamp. And he might have the option of going Full Evil Wolverine to save her, or he might have to actually let her go…?
But he has a new family with him now to help him now, who all Get It and loved the same person he does, and they all know how HARD it is to let it go when you’ve spent so long fighting for it. So he has the choice to follow their growth instead of Evil Wolverine’s if it comes down to it, and he would be supported by the best possible people if he did.

Case Study of Why Drarry > Dramione
Book 5, Chapter 10
Harry looked around; he had expected this, but that did not make the sight of Draco Malfoy smirking at him from between his cronies Crabbe and Goyle any more enjoyable. “What?” he said aggressively, before Malfoy could open his mouth. “Manners, Potter, or I’ll have to give you a detention,” drawled Malfoy, whose sleek blond hair and pointed chin were just like his father’s. “You see, I, unlike you, have been made a prefect, which means that I, unlike you, have the power to hand out punishments.” “Yeah,” said Harry, “but you, unlike me, are a git, so get out and leave us alone.” Ron, Hermione, Ginny, and Neville laughed. Malfoy’s lip curled. “Tell me, how does it feel being second-best to Weasley, Potter?” he asked. “Shut up, Malfoy,” said Hermione sharply. “I seem to have touched a nerve,” said Malfoy, smirking. “Well, just watch yourself, Potter, because I’ll be dogging your footsteps in case you step out of line.” “Get out!” said Hermione, standing up. Sniggering, Malfoy gave Harry a last malicious look and departed, Crabbe and Goyle lumbering in his wake. Hermione slammed the compartment door behind them and turned to look at Harry, who knew at once that she, like him, had registered what Malfoy had said and been just as unnerved by it.
Draco doesn't give enough of a damn about Hermione to purposely seek her out. Unlike Harry (and Ron). Look at all the interesting dialogue he and Harry have. That energy! For all Draco hates mudbloods, he hardly gives Hermione the time of day, unless he is already bothering Harry/Ron. She may as well be invisible in this scene. That's my boy!
Let me summarize this snippet and most other Draco & golden trio confrontations, your honour!

Do any of you have playlists or theme songs for your Touchstarved MCs/OCs? Or a specific sound or genre of music that you associate with them? Or an instrument?
I've made playlists for both my Hound! (Alon) and Alchemist! (Jin) MCs, but there's also specific music vibes that I ascribe to each OC. Jin’s had a very autumnal, woodsy vibe — like The Amazing Devil's music — from the beginning. In comparison, Alon didn't really have a specific sound when I made her playlist (partly because a lot of the songs are there for laughs), but now I think the genre that fits their character would be electro swing, something high-energy, fun and showman-y.

something something iii devolving and crumbling as a season with the pacing and forced conflict etc. Could've been an interesting way to tie back to the fact this is the one season mephone is running All By Himself (from what we know anyway) and how its all just a failing desperate grasping attempt for him to feel in control of something for once even though its not working and he's accidentally hurting others by dragging them into it . but unfortunately it is just crumbling because it Kind of sucks

Prompt: fairy-tale heroine of your choice wakes up with amnesia. (Maybe her husband has to explain how they got married?)
Purity of Mind
Dora looked so innocent, asleep on her bed. The fresh white bandages binding her crown looked more like a mark of holiness than disaster. The doctor claimed she'd fallen from a balcony and hit her head upon a stair rail. Adam thought it seemed too suspicious an accident. A disaster on the one day he'd left the house? His sure-footed little wife wouldn't have stumbled like that--not unless she were nearly out of her wits. Perhaps fleeing from some great terror.
"She'll wake soon," the doctor assured him. "Her body's healed enough, but with a head injury like that, there's no telling what state her brain will be in."
The state itself, Adam thought, would be telling enough.
As if roused by the doctor's words, Dora's eyelids fluttered. She sat up, pale and trembling. Her gaze landed upon Adam, and she started to scream.
"Who are you?" she shrieked, gathering the bedclothes to cover herself. "What are you doing in my room?"
Adam had steeled himself for the usual accusations, but this left him off-balance.
Finally, he managed to say, "Dora, it's just me. Adam. Your husband."
"I have no husband!"
"We wed six months ago."
"Liar!" she shrieked. "I'd never marry a man with such an awful beard!"
Adam stroked his blue-black whiskers, neatly trimmed for his homecoming. A deep chuckle rumbled in his throat; after months of her tiptoeing around him, her frankness was amusing. "I paid your parents richly for the privilege."
Dora paused at that. The mercenary child of mercenary parents--the tale would ring true, no matter her objections to his facial hair. Yet the bewilderment didn't fade from her face. "I've never seen this house before."
"You've been mistress here six months."
"I don't believe you."
"Whether you believe me or not, it's true. You fell from a staircase and hit your head."
Her eyes were fire. "I'll bet you pushed me!"
"I was away from home. I only just returned." He would never have opted for such an impersonal death. It was much more satisfying to feel the life draining away beneath his fingers.
The thought brought him back to reality. No need to wrestle with her delusions; only one truth mattered.
"Dora," Adam asked. "Where are the keys?"
"What keys?"
"I left the keys of the house in your keeping. I'll need them returned."
"I never had any keys!"
Adam looked to the doctor, who said, "We've found no keys on her person."
Missing? Impossible. Adam stormed from the room and set the servants searching for the keys. Nothing in her wardrobe. Nothing in the rooms. Nothing in the gardens.
The door on the third floor was locked, with no signs of entry.
Adam returned to the sickroom as the sun was setting. Dora sat quietly on her bed, having been calmly convinced of her new reality, completely unaware of the turmoil she'd thrown his life into.
He could have torn her limb from limb right there, but he had no proof yet she was deserving of it. For the moment, his strategy was gentleness.
He sat on the bed beside her. "Dora, my dove, think. Can you remember where the keys might be?"
"I can't even remember you."
Adam examined her in every detail--the tips of her fingers, the whites of her eyes, the curl of her lips. No signs of deception.
"You truly can't remember anything?"
Tears glittered in her eyes as she shook her head.
She looked as innocent as a newborn babe. The timid little fool he'd married couldn't fake such total ignorance. If she'd peered behind the door, she'd lost the memory of what she'd seen. If she'd disobeyed, he had no way of knowing.
A new twist to the game--a second chance.
Adam left the room in a state of contentment. He could get new keys made. His secret was safe--locked away either behind the door or in his wife's blank mind.
And if her memory returned? If she had memories of that bloody chamber?
He could always kill her later.

i think h1bike has the chance 2 be extremely brilliant on the ultimate payoff of re*na becoming disillusioned w/ taki after he snubs kmk for the final lineup bc a win without her rly is no win at all & that also handily wrapping up the comphet arc but also like. we all watched perfectly stacked shows like wep shit the bed rather than go for the easy thematic resolution so ik the chances here are zero, realistically

Okay look I love Kitty and Yuri together but I don't actually think they should end up together. Because I think Yuri is genuinely in love with Julianna and she won't just give that up. So far from what I've seen they are very much in a good relationship with each other and plan to stay that way. They are cute, they are happy, they have plans for the future and they fought so hard to be together so it would be really unfair and also out of character to just take that away from them especially since they are finally back together now. And I do think Kitty deserves do find a cute girlfriend but it doesn't have to be Yuri. There are for sure so many other cute girl Kitty hasn't met yet that will also be perfect for her. I think Yuri is very important for Kitty because she is part of her self discovery. Kitty found out she was into girls through Yuri and that's great!! But that doesn't immediately mean that they have to be together, especially when Yuri is already in a committed relationship. I do think they are very cute together and would be amazing as friends tho!!

your last post about lestappen ship primers...so true
like the whole 'childhood rivals to friends to lovers' with a side of friendly, sometimes heated rivalry would be compelling...except for the fact max and charles' childhood rivalry is imo overrated and at best they are the most coworkers to ever coworker
i'm dead serious when i say you could make a far more convincing ship primer for max and esteban (if i wasn't on anon i would add past social media interactions but trust me they exist) than you ever could for lestappen
Yes exactly anon! they just have such strong coworkers who only kind of like each other vibes. I think if they were on the same team they'd probably have an interesting rivalry but alas we do not live in that world.
Im so open to whatever ships, especially in rpf world because there's so much space for creativity, but i have yet to be convinced by any Lestappen i've seen. Especially when charlos and maxiel (and even like, gax) exist and have so much more compelling throughlines and undertones. Idk.
like ultimately everything we do here is speculation and projection and delusion, but i just feel like lestappen is making like, an entire bakery out of breadcrumbs.

It’s been noted before, but the original plan for Asami was to have her as an equalist spy. And, I don’t know how I feel about that.
On one hand, it does feel like there’s something missing from her story in book 1. But on the other, considering the Makorrasami love triangle as it was already playing out, I’m not sure you would’ve gotten the full potential out of such a storyline.

dunno if i’ve posted this clip before or just thought about it often enough to create that uncertainty, but it sure comes to mind re: the subject of like, what function Jared’s Character serves in supporting the material. and michael greif as a key Understander in how getting the story across to the audience Works well enough for them to take that ride, see: transcribed excerpts from a podcast interview of will’s a few posts back
#not like oh people always forget to look to the director when it comes to thinking abt A Work lmao...#also funny like; you let levenson get in on this & he just won't stop humanizing your characters; then there's also the [working w/actors]#stage of things & he's like wuh oh gotta Get Good. gotta humanize them even more. girl help#and of course that Nobody's talking about like oh yeah jared's purpose? get off a Jokes Boy#even that final remark about Keeping Things In Perspective like ofc jared's noticeably Comedically interrupting peak Drama often#but it's not b/c like idk oh the audience wouldn't be able to Handle drama#but rather like. a) without breaks/shifts in pacing; more Intense / Elevated moments would just start to fall flatter#like that's the new baseline & it'd feel like Too Much in the way that it just doesn't come across as intense the way it's meant to anymore#& also b) jared is Directly Commenting on what just happened; so you now don't have to feel directly sold on that moment & you know like....#even if you did buy into it earnestly at the time; that's not the only relevant angle here; evan having to explain it to Someone Else and do#so After The Fact is also relevant. What Is True.#like yeah you can have jared go ''what the hell???'' abt things & have audiences take that ride but come away presuming jared is either#there to simply be The Funny One and/or The Mean One. but you remove that material of someone going What The Hell & it doesn't work as well#like michael g is saying there about Just When The Audience Is Feeling Very Cynical Abt What Evan's Up To; Jared Gets To State It#and that way we're all comfortable....if jared's not stating it; the shift from Cynical to Comfortable doesn't happen & ppl don't Notice#that it's due to not having that character who outright comments on it but then they're like well my cynicism had no payoff so evan's evil#and/or the material is positing that evan is epic but he sucks; so....not like you couldn't potentially consider that the material actually#is Not necessarily abt how everything evan does is good & awesome / figure out that a mess of motivations is deliberate anyways but.#deh#will roland#also tbt to will in Another podcast interview of [while still in deh] where he was theorizing that it must've been michael greif's decision#to cast Him; Specifically as jared. can't argue with that what with his [being in a position to do that] & Understander of what could work
