THE ART OF THE COVER PHOTO MEETS MARCH MADNESS -- PART 2 OF 2.
PIC(S) INFO: Spotlight on the final set of cover photos for the month of March 2024, and featuring online finds such as:
A tongue-in-cheek credit card billboard featuring DC's Plastic Man, from "JUSTICE" Vol. 1 #2 [Maxi-Series]. December, 2005. DC Comics. Artwork by Doug Braithwaite & Alex Ross.
Liner notes illustration for the INCREDIBLE HOG vinyl/CD re-release by Rise Above Relics. Artist unknown.
Original cel animation for Shere Khan, from the 1967 Disney animated feature film, "The Jungle Book."
Ancient aliens artwork by the late, great Jim Nichols.
A shot from an early live gig of American thrash metal band, SLAYER.
A photo of a shot of whisky by Daido Moriyama, from his “Color 1970 – 1990” Exhibition @ Taka Ishii Gallery, c. 2016.
A Ted Nasmith fantasy painting titled "A Conversation with Smaug," from children's fantasy novel "The Hobbit," written by J.R.R. Tolkien.
A 1971 Marvel house advertisement for "CONAN THE BARBARIAN" Vol. 1 by Marvel Comics, adapted from the works of Robert E. Howard.

maybe i’m a simple woman, but like!!! just the fact that this artist has drawn clark and jon so distinctively,  like you can clearly tell one from the other beyond the design of their uniform
Tumblr media
aaahhh!!! and maybe because it’s played into my headcanon as well on how i placed jon being much more leaner than his father but ugh!!! this depiction is just so clear how much leaner (and still considerably shorter) jon is while clark is clearly stockier, way broader, and their hair!!!!  jon’s messy unruly hair!!!!  vs.  clark’s neatly combed, slightly curled hair!!!!
Tumblr media
sighs 💕💕💕
(also dont reblog pls thank u)

For the week of 18 February 2019
Quick Bits:
Aquaman #45 gives us a new creation story with Father Sea and Mother Salt. It’s interesting world-building for what’s going on on this island. Robson Rocha, Daniel Henriques, and Sunny Gho seem to level up on their art again. This book is gorgeous.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Avengers #15 continues the vampire civil war, with the Shadow Colonel basically kidnapping Ghost Rider. Jason Aaron is definitely taking this series in weird places, but it remains highly entertaining. Especially with collaborators like David Marquez and Erick Arciniega who deliver some incredible artwork.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Avengers: No Road Home #2 reveals how Nyx and her family took Olympus. There’s also a neat parallel narration for Hawkeye explaining how the guy with just a bow and arrows can take on gods and monsters. The art from Paco Medina, Juan Vlasco, and Jesus Aburtov is gorgeous, they really seem to pushing themselves with their storytelling. It’s just a shame that none of the artists are credited on the cover.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Barbarella/Dejah Thoris #2 is ridiculously impressive. Leah Williams, Germán García, Addison Duke, and Crank! are delivering an intelligent, humorous, and compelling adventure tale here that reminds me a lot of some of what Alan Moore and Chris Sprouse did in Tom Strong. It’s incredibly inventive and the artwork is amazing. Highly recommended.
| Published by Dynamite
Tumblr media
Batman #65 gives us the penultimate chapter of “The Price”, featuring an all out battle between Flash, Gotham Girl, and Gotham. The artwork from Guillem March and Tomeu Morey is stunning, with some incredible layouts as the action continues.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Black Widow #2 is fairly bloody and violent as Natasha racks up a body count tracking down the people running “No Restraints Play”, a site that specializes in depravity. Flaviano’s line art seems scratchier than the first issue, but it works for the violent tone of story.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Bloodborne #9 begins the third arc, “A Song of Crows”, as Aleš Kot, Piotr Kowalski, Brad Simpson, Aditya Bidikar, and Jim Campbell spotlight Eileen the Crow. This is a bit of return to the kind of abstract storytelling and embrace of oblique existentialism of the first arc as Eileen investigates the ritual murder of a hunter, but is confounded by time and holes in the narrative.
| Published by Titan
Tumblr media
Catwoman #8 is ostensibly the “conclusion” to “Something Smells Fishy”, but it doesn’t actually end the story in any way and leaves the reader at a cliffhanger of continuing elements. That being said, it’s still an entertaining issue from Joëlle Jones, Elena Casagrande, Fernando Blanco, John Kalisz, and Josh Reed. Wonderful action sequences, and more questions as to the nature of a reliquary that seems to contain resurrective powers.
| Published by DC Comics
Tumblr media
Delver #1 begins a new Comixology Original series from MK Reed, C. Spike Trotman, Clive Hawken, Maarta Laiho, and Ed Dukeshire. It’s a very intriguing and unique take on the fantasy gaming theme of a dungeon full of treasure and monsters with delvers working to plumb the depths. But it’s from the perspective of the townsfolk whose land the door to the dungeon appears in and how it changes and impacts their lives.
| Published by Iron Circus Comics
Tumblr media
Doctor Strange #11 concludes the battle with Dormammu and the Faltine, for now at least, from Mark Waid, Jesús Saiz, Javier Pina, Rachelle Rosenberg, and Cory Petit. Some very nice art as usual from Saiz, Pina, and Rosenberg.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media
Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #3 continues “Mother of Exiles” from Tom Taylor, Juann Cabal, Nolan Woodard, and Travis Lanham as Peter finds out a bit about the rumours regarding his neighbour and Under York, another duplicate New York City under New York City, that oddly isn’t the Monster Metropolis. Great humour from Taylor in the dialogue.
| Published by Marvel

Guardians of the Galaxy #2 takes a somewhat different approach as Peter Quill drunk dials Kitty as he tries to make sense of what’s going on with Thanos, Gamora, everyone who’s dead, and the current state of the Guardians. Donny Cates, Geoff Shaw, Marte Gracia, and Cory Petit are really taking this series into interesting offbeat territory, while still delivering some excellent humour and an ominous feel to Starfox’s new band of “guardians”.

Incursion #1 begins a new mini picking up on where the Eternal Warrior and Geomancer are since Harbinger Wars 2 and Ninja-K, and pit them against Imperatrix Virago, a cosmic villain that is devouring worlds (kind of like if Galactus were pestilence), from Andy Diggle, Alex Paknadel, Doug Braithwaite, José Villarrubia, Diego Rodriguez, and Marshall Dillon. The art is incredible, the stakes seem pretty high, and the outlook after this first issue look pretty grim for Earth.

James Bond 007 #4 sees Stephen Mooney join Greg Pak, Tríona Farrell, and Ariana Maher for the art chores for three issues, continuing the tale of Bond and “Oddjob”’s team-up. Like Marc Laming, Mooney seems to be born to draw Bond and espionage themed stories.

Judge Dredd: Toxic #4 concludes what has been an excellent series dealing with xenophobia and hateful rhetoric from Paul Jenkins, Marco Castiello, Vincenzo Acunzo, Jason Millet, Shawn Lee, and Robbie Robbins. I’ve always found non 2000 AD Judge Dredd stories to be a bit of crapshoot, but IDW have been delivering well with the past two mini-series, this and Under Siege.

Justice League #18 is the latest excursion into the Legion of Doom territory from James Tynion IV, Pasqual Ferry, Hi-Fi, and Tom Napolitano. It works with some of the revelations from last issue regarding Martian Manhunter and builds a new narrative for Lionel Luthor’s past and his work with Vandal Savage. It’s interesting to see Tynion working with variations on discarded continuities in this way, building a new past that synthesizes pre-Flashpoint ideas with the current batch of backstories.

Middlewest #4 only seems to be getting better and better as more of this world and how it seems to work get fleshed out by Skottie Young, Jorge Corona, Jean-Francois Beaulieu, and Nate Piekos. There’s something incredibly magical and special about this series that taps into the feeling of some of the best coming-of-age fantasies as it blends Ray Bradbury, JM Barrie, and Carlo Collodi into this magical realist adventure.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #3 concludes the opening arc from Saladin Ahmed, Javier Garrón, David Curiel, and Cory Petit by adding Captain America to Miles & Rhino’s team-up. This has been a very entertaining start to the series, with a nice mix of Miles’ personal life and superheroics.

Naomi #2 reasserts that Jamal Campbell is a powerhouse of an artist and one of the best kept secrets of the past few years who really should have a higher profile. His art is amazing. It also helps that the story he, Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, and Carlos M. Mangual are telling is as compelling as this, as Naomi confronts Dee as she tries to learn about the day of her adoption. It’s very widescreen and epic as it hints at the broader DC Universe, but at the same time this is very deeply personal.

Old Man Quill #2 gives the Guardians a taste of the depravity and despair that Earth has fallen to in this post-superhero world. Ethan Sacks shows there’s still a bit of humour left, though, in that Piledriver’s descendent thinks that Piledriver was one of the all-time greats. Also the art from Robert Gill and Andres Mossa gives a wonderful amount of detail to the wastelands.

Relay #4 returns after a delay with new artist Dalibor Talajić (I believe Andy Clarke had to bow out due to illness, but I’m not 100% sure on that). Talajić’s art style is not as bright and clean as Clarke’s, giving a darker, shadowy approach that results in the bleak, horror elements of the story coming further into focus.

Seven to Eternity #13 returns from its own lengthy delay to conclude the arc in Skod, with the revelation of part of Adam’s choice to save the Mud King. It reiterates the theme since the beginning that there seem to be no good choices in this world, that everything tainted, despite Adam’s father believing the world black and white. While we are going into another trade break, Rick Remender, Jerome Opeña, Matt Hollingsworth, and Rus Wooton consistently make this worth the wait.

Sharkey: The Bounty Hunter #1 is the latest of Mark Millar’s Netflix feeder series, after The Magic Order and Prodigy, with Simone Bianchi and Peter Doherty rounding out the team. This one feels a bit like if Warren Ellis were writing Strontium Dog, and it works. The artwork from Bianchi is worth it on its own. Gorgeous character designs.

Venom #11 is another holy crap issue from Donny Cates, Ryan Stegman, Joshua Cassara, JP Mayer, Frank Martin, and Clayton Cowles. There are some really big revelations about Eddie and his family that really need to be read firsthand. Amazing work.

X-O Manowar #24 reminds us again just how good of an artist and storyteller Tomás Giorello is. The action sequences and battle between Aric and Hesnid is incredible, with fairly inventive layouts that just elevate the overall impact of the pages. Giorello and Diego Rodriguez really make this something joyous to behold.

Valiant is proud to present your first look at INCURSION #1 – the FIRST ISSUE of AN UNEARTHLY NEW SERIES by celebrated writers Andy Diggle (SHADOWMAN) and Alex Paknadel (Friendo), with superstar artist Doug Braithwaite (X-O MANOWAR)!
On February 20th, one of Valiant’s most iconic and beloved heroes, the Eternal Warrior, emerges to lead the charge in an all-new limited event series, featuring the stunning premiere of a completely new villain to the Valiant Universe – a ruthless intergalactic conqueror known as Imperatrix Virago!
“Valiant fans will know that the Deadside is far more than just an afterlife. It’s a living, breathing ecosystem with its own customs and flora and fauna,” writer Alex Paknadel told Paste. “Imperatrix Virago doesn’t care about all that, though; for her, it’s a transport medium that will take her to any world in the universe where there is life. In other words, it’s the place from which she strikes.”
Beyond the margins of human reason lies a realm known as the Deadside, where the souls of the dearly departed linger – and where demons wait for us in the dark. For countless ages, Earth’s chosen protectors have guarded the veil between both worlds – but there are other doors to the Deadside, through which gruesome terrors from galaxies untold can trespass… With the planet’s freedom at stake, can the reigning Geomancer and her steadfast Eternal Warrior stand together against an invasion unlike any they’ve ever witnessed?
Following in the footsteps of FAITH: DREAMSIDE #1 this past September, BLOODSHOT RISING SPIRIT #1 later this month in November, and LIVEWIRE #1 in December, INCURSION represents the latest series in Valiant’s BEYOND initiative, carrying the critically acclaimed publisher forward into 2019 with an exploration into the Valiant Universe’s hidden depths!
From critically acclaimed writer Andy Diggle, rising star writer Alex Paknadel, and legendary artist Doug Braithwaite comes a story that will rock the Valiant Universe across dimensions in INCURSION #1 – featuring covers by Doug Braithwaite and Roberto de la Torre (NINJA-K)!

Bad Idea Comics Gets the Valiant Gang Together
https://ift.tt/37bzlag
One of the execs behind Valiant's resurrection is starting a new publisher with a different plan. Meet Bad Idea.
facebook
twitter
tumblr
Dinesh Shamdasani, one of the people who helped make Valiant Comics' rebirth in 2011 such a success, is back at it with a new comic company. For fans of his tenure with the Bloodshot publisher, this new venture is going to look familiar.
Shamdasani and his team announced Bad Idea Comics, a new publisher with a curious business model. The company plans on only releasing one or two titles a month, only as physical media, without collections or variant covers, to only 20 comic shops around the United States at launch (with plans to expand into more as certain criteria are met).
The creators on board include some outstanding names.
Joshua Dysart, writer of Imperium and The Life and Death of Toyo Harada.
Jody Houser, the definitive writer behind Faith.
Tomas Giorello, one of the artists who gave X-O Manowar such a distinct and gorgeous look.
Robert Venditti, the longtime writer of X-O Manowar who took a flimsy premise ("What if Conan was Iron Man?") and made it into something much deeper.
Marguerite Bennett, writer of the criminally underrated Angela, Asgard's Assassin book.
Zeb Wells, writer behind the second best New Mutants run of all time.
Adam Pollina, the artist who drew Fallen World, following up the surprisingly excellent 4001 crossover featuring Rai and Bloodshot.
Eric Heisserer, who wrote a shockingly, appallingly good take on misfit heroes in Secret Weapons.
Jeff Lemire, writer of many incredible comics, including co-writing the best book Valiant ever put out - The Valiant.
Mae Catt of Young Justice fame, writer of one of season three's best episodes, "Another Freak."
Peter Milligan, mildly successful X-Force writer and co-creator of Britannica.
Creating ENIAC, Bad Idea's May 2020 launch title, are Matt Kindt (the other co-writer of The Valiant), and Doug Braithwaite (artist of another surprisingly great Valiant crossover, Book of Death).
One would not be mistaken in thinking "Huh. That's a lot of Valiant creators." It is, in fact, a lot of them, and the list of executive staff is basically the masthead of a Bloodshot comic circa 2017. But it shouldn't be surprising - Shamdasani's Valiant was known for treating its creative talent well, particularly with fair compensation. That's going to engender some loyalty.
The publishing strategy is likely going to cause some heartburn for comics readers. In an era with unprecedented accessibility, via web comics, manga imports, digital and bookstore releases, going the other direction runs the risk of sending an opposite message. Taking a strong, public, "No Variants" stance sounds like one of support for local comics shops, too many of which are closing in small part because they don't order in sufficient volume to capitalize on speculator walk-ins, leading to small shops being swamped by large ones and Comixology. But turning around and saying only 20 shops will get these books, and only if you're limiting one per customer feels like it's sending the same message as flooding the market with variants, just to fewer people.
Part of this concern is also from a selfish place. This is a stunning creative lineup, and there is almost no way my shop (Peter Parker's high school at noon on a school day would be the seventh largest town in my state...fourth largest if you count staff) will even sniff these books. But these sound like the kind of books I want to tell other people to read.
For more on Bad Idea Comics, or for more on which New York City public high schools would make good, quaint New England villages, stick with Den of Geek!

May was a month filled with books. I read 34 books this month – a mix of print, ebook and audiobooks and most were very good reads. This has been a bumper month of reading and I put it down to the lovely sunny days we had where I got to sit out in the garden, and then not been too well so needing more time to take it easy.
I was thrilled to discover that my blog now has over 9000 followers as of late May. Thank you to all of you that have stuck with my blog over the years, and to my newer followers, I appreciate you all.
Thank you also to everyone who has commented on my posts throughout May. I’ve been really struggling to type this month, and also with my eyes (looking at screens for more than a few minutes at a time is giving me awful headaches) so haven’t managed to keep up with replying but I do read and appreciate each one. I will try and reply to some of them but I likely won’t get to them all, so I’m saying thank you here.
Here are the books I read in May:
Worst Case Scenario by Helen Fitzgerald
I loved this book about Mary, a menopausal probation officer who has reached the end of her tether. It’s a darkly comedic book and one that I think I’ll re-read at some point. Here’s my review.
Breakers by Doug Johnstone
This is a novel that captured my heart in a way that I wasn’t expecting. Tyler is such a great character and I was rooting for him to find a way to escape from the life his older brother had trapped him in. My review is here.
The Furies by Katie Sise
I enjoyed this novel about a group of teenage girls and the element of witchcraft that they are obsessed with. I plan to review it soon.
The Forgotten Sister by Caroline Bond
This was a really good novel about the fall out from adoption and what happens when you keep secrets. I reviewed it here.
Missing Molly by Natalie Barelli
I bought this on a whim in a kindle sale and it was an okay read. I found it a bit too predictable overall but at the same time it did keep mew reading to the end.
Song of the Robin by R. V. Biggs
This novel is beautiful and mysterious and I very much enjoyed it. I’m so glad that I was given the chance to read this for the blog tour as I’m not sure I’d have picked it up otherwise but now I’m a fan of the author and will definitely seek out other books by him. My review is here.
Keep Her Close by M. J. Ford
I listened to this on audio book and really enjoyed it. This is definitely a series that I will continue on with and so I’ll be eagerly looking out for the third book to be published!
How To Manage Your Home Without Losing Your Mind by Dana K. White
I still can’t resist books about organising homes so this one caught my eye. I actually enjoyed this one and as I struggle with pain and fatigue it was really helpful in showing me how even in just a very short period of time I can still have a housework routine.
By Nightfall by Michael Cunningham
I feel very torn about this book – there were parts of it that I loved but also a lot of parts of it that felt very self-indulgent. I do enjoy Cunningham’s writing but this isn’t his best work.
10 Things to do Before You Leave School by Bernard O’Keeffe
I loved this thoughtful and moving novel about a teenage girl coming to terms with the death of her dad, and her subsequent depression. She finds a list he’s left and spends her last year at school trying to complete it. My review is here.
The End of the End of the Earth by Jonathan Franzen
I won a copy of this in a giveaway earlier this year and it caught my eye on my shelf as I was in the mood for an essay collection. I actually really enjoyed reading this and it’s reminded me how much I enjoy reading essays.
We Are Not Such Things by Justine van der Luen
I’d heard good things about this book so when I spotted it on Scribd I decided to listen to it. I found it such a fascinating book about the murder of a young woman and the subsequent tensions in the area. It wasn’t exactly the book the synopsis made out it would be but it was still a really interesting read.
The Treatment by C. L. Taylor
I loved this fast-paced YA thriller and would recommend it!
Sunburn by Laura Lippman
I listened to this on Scribd having read some good reviews. I enjoyed it but I didn’t feel as gripped by it as I’d hoped I would be. I’ll definitely look out for more books by this author though as I loved the way the book was written.
At The Birth of Bowie by Phil Lancaster
I can’t seem to read enough biographies of David Bowie so I was looking forward to this one about his first band. I really enjoyed the stories in this book but it wasn’t quite as well written as I would have liked. I’d still recommend it if you’re a Bowie fan.
Dead Inside by Noelle Holten
I loved this debut novel! I won’t say anymore here as I’ll be sharing my full review tomorrow. I will say that I highly recommend it though!
The Family Man by Tim Lebbon
This is a book that had been on my TBR for ages so I decided to make the effort to read it this month. Unfortunately I didn’t get on with it all that well. It did keep me reading until the end but it wasn’t really for me.
My Sister, the Serial Killer by Orinkan Braithwaite
I’m so glad I picked this book up because it was so good and deserves all the praise it’s been getting. I was fascinated by the two sisters in the novel and the way their relationship works. This is a book that is really staying with me.
Take Me to the Edge by Katya Boirand
This is a beautiful poetry collection that also has fabulous photographs in it. I loved reading this and it’s a book that I will go back and dip in and out of in the future. I’ve already reviewed this one here.
Not Having It All by Jennie Ensor
This was such a funny novel but also a book that made me think. It’s a book all about whether the grass is always greener. I recommend it! My review is here.
Fire and Fury by Michael Wolff
I’ve had the audio book of this for ages but it felt like I’d missed the moment to read it. Then I saw that a follow-up book is coming out soon so I decided to listen to this one now. There wasn’t much in here that I hadn’t already heard but it was still shocking to hear all this stuff in the one book.
Conversations With Friends by Sally Rooney
Sadly I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I’d hoped, I think perhaps I’m the wrong age for it. Also I couldn’t even identify with the characters when I thought back to how I’d been at their age. I did love the writing though and am planning on reading Normal People as part of my 20 books of summer challenge!
We Never Said Goodbye by Helene Fermont
This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I enjoyed it. I’ll be reviewing this book later this month so please keep your eye out for that!
Middlemarch by George Eliot
I completely and utterly fell in love with this novel, it was absolutely brilliant! I’m so glad that I finally picked it up. I enjoyed it so much that I now want to go back and re-read The Mill on the Floss. It was studying that novel under pressure at Uni that put me off reading anymore Eliot but reading a classic in my own time was wonderful and I feel sure that re-reading The Mill on the Floss with fresh eyes might be a completely different experience.
The Flight of Cornelia Blackwood by Susan Elliot Wright
I read this book in one afternoon because I just couldn’t put it down. It’s heartbreaking novel but so beautifully written. I hope to get my thoughts together soon so I can review it.
The Wych Elm by Tana French
I got an ARC of this but I also bought the audio book so I could part-read and part-listen and I’m so glad I did because it was such a brilliant book. I’m a fan of Tana French anyway but I think this might be my new favourite book by her. I hope to get my review posted on here soon!
The Van Apfel Girls Are Gone by Felicity McLean
I read this book out in my garden over the course of a couple of sunny afternoons and it was sheer perfection! This is such a haunting, yet gorgeous book and I loved it. This is a book that will stay with me. I’ll be sharing my review later this month for the blog tour.
A Modern Family by Helga Flatland
This is a book that really got to me. It’s about three siblings and is told from each of their perspectives. It’s such a brilliant portrayal of sibling relationships and I adored it. I’m still getting my thoughts in order on this one but I definitely recommend it!
Nobody’s Wife by Laura Pearson
This is another book about siblings – two sisters and their partners. It’s a look at family ties and where loyalties lie. This book got to me way more than I thought it would, it’s a brilliant read. I’ll review it once I get my thoughts together!
The Holiday by T. M. Logan
This is a gripping thriller about four women who’ve been friends since their university days and are now turning 40. They go on holiday with their respective husbands and children and as secrets and lies are uncovered one of the party ends up dead! I will be reviewing this one soon but in the meantime I recommend pre-ordering it for your summer holiday reading!
Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter
I got a copy of this from NetGalley and then discovered the audio book on Scribd so I part-listened and part-read this. I really enjoyed it and was drawn to reading it every spare minute I could find. I’ll review this properly soon!
Sister of Mine by Laurie Petrou
There’s a sticker on the front of this book warning that the reader will burn through it in one sitting and it turns out that’s absolutely true! Once I started reading this I knew I wouldn’t be able to put it down until I’d read to the end. I very much enjoyed this book and will be sharing my review later this month.
Death and Other Happy Endings by Melanie Cantor
This book was wonderful. It’s a book that I’d been much anticipating and it more than lived up to my hopes for it. I’ll be reviewing it later this month for the blog tour.
We Must Be Brave by Frances Liardet
I just finished reading this last night. It was a good read but it was lacking the emotional resonance that I was expecting it to have.

I managed to post reviews of fourteen books in May, which I’m really pleased with. I’m still reading more books than I’m managing to review but it feels good to be getting some written up and posted. I also wrote shared my regular weekly This Week in Books posts, my Stacking the Shelves posts.
I started off May by wrapping up April, which had been a good month of reading and blogging. I then reviewed The Tapestry Bag by Isabella Muir, which was such a fun audio book that I now plan on reading the rest of this series! My next review was of Doug Johnstone’s Breakers, which was a book that really got under my skin and I’m still thinking about now. I then read and reviewed The Forgotten Sister by Caroline Bond for the blog tour. This was a novel about adoption and was a great story plus it made me think. My next review was of R. V. Biggs’ Song of the Robin. I’m so glad that I was offered a chance to read this book because it is such a beautiful, surprising book and I highly recommend it. I was delighted to have the chance to read and review a wonderful poetry collection in May – Take Me to the Edge by Katya Boirand. This is a gorgeous book and one I will definitely continue to enjoy.  Next I did a summer thriller recommendations post which encompassed mini reviews of four really enjoyable novels (The Blame Game by C. J. Cooke, The Guilty Party by Mel McGrath, Don’t Turn Around by Amanda Brooke and Gone by Midnight by Candice Fox!).  I then read and reviewed a wonderful novel about a teenager coming to terms with the loss of her father in 10 Things to do Before You Leave School by Bernard O’Keeffe. The next book I reviewed was a brilliant, darkly comedic novel about menopausal Mary and I loved it – The Worst Case Scenario by Helen Fitzgerald is one I won’t forget! After that I took part in the blog tour for Helene Fermont’s Because of You and shared my review. I was then hugely excited to finalise my planned TBR for the 20 Books of Summer reading challenge! It was hard to decide on a definite 20 but I got there in the end and I can’t wait to start reading! I was thrilled to be invited to read Jennie Ensor’s new novel Not Having It All for the blog tour and got to share my review a few days ago. I loved this book and recommend it! And last but most definitely not least I shared my review of The Blue Bench by Paul Marriner yesterday. This book has such an impact on me and I know I won’t ever forget it.
  The state of my TBR:
So my TBR…. Well, I’m starting to think that I’m wasting my time updating it here because I just can’t seem to control my book buying! At the start of May I had 2526 books on my TBR and now, even though I read so many books in May, my TBR stands at 2538! It’s only an increase of 12 but when I look at my plan to reduce my TBR by 20 each month this year my TBR should currently be at 2347! I just can’t resist the books! I am going to cut down a tiny bit on blog tours after June so that I can focus on reading the books I already own. I also need to try and stay away from NetGalley so that I can’t be tempted! Wish me luck!
How was May for you? I hope you all had a good month and that you read lots of good books. Did you read many books? What was your favourite book of the month? Please tell me in the comments, I’d love to know. Also, if you have a blog please feel free to leave a link to your month’s wrap-up post and I’ll be sure to read and comment back. 🙂
That Was The Month That Was… May 2019! May was a month filled with books. I read 34 books this month - a mix of print, ebook and audiobooks and most were very good reads.
