hiiiii keriiiiiii. 1, 3, 7, 13 for the choose violence ask game
doin dangan/ronpa for this one! subdivision bc this one is long
1. the character everyone gets wrong
Gonta. personally I blame the localization for this one bc in JP he speaks completely normal sentences but using his own name in the third person (which several female characters in the same game do, and their dialogue is translated normally) but instead of translating it as such the EN release gave him Tarzan speech, so fandom treats him as a dumb idiot baby who has no clue what he's ever doing.
Which ironically is how he self-deprecates in canon. By thinking he's too dumb and obviously doesn't know what he's talking about, even though he's a fucking entomologist.
3. screenshot or description of the worst take you’ve seen on tumblr
twitter, not tumblr. this one is a nuanced personal opinion but i disagreed so hard i actually unfollowed the person who said it///
tl;dr that they'd like Komaeda more if he had gotten an on-screen redemption where he fixed his flawed ideologies and formed real, healthy bonds with his classmates, growing as a person and eventually deciding that he was wrong about other people, the world, and himself.
like to each their own but i don't think he needs ANY OF THAT to be interesting, likeable, and still well written. positive growth is not the only good way to develop a character and as nice as it'd be for Komaeda to recover from his past i think it's wildly antithetical to his role in the story for the game itself to depict that.
also the vast majority of op's actual dr faves are fairly one-dimensional and did not have the same type of positive growth or even development at all that they allege would've made them like Komaeda soooo
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
mm. honestly nobody. idr have a strong hatred for dr characters specifically bc of the fandom, only ever bc of the source
that being said. i don't HATE Chihiro but my god nobody can be normal about Chihiro. impressive of Ko/daka to write a character in such a bigoted way that any gender headcanon (cis male, cis female, trans male, trans female) is somehow offensive.
13. worst blorboficiation
as someone who used to be guilty of it uh. Ouma lmao

Let's Watch Batman Movies #1: The 1943 Serial
The first thing that needs to be said about the Batman 1943 serial is that it was anti-Japanese propaganda created during WWII. The stated and overt purpose of these films is to rally white Americans against Japanese-Americans and citizens of Japan. For some reason, I went in like, oh, I’ve seen racist propaganda before, this won’t be so bad. I was quite wrong! Early on, the action moves to Little Tokyo and the narrator informs us that it is vacant ever since “a wise government rounded up the shifty eyed Japs.” Extremely bad! And it’s like that the whole way through!
The villain is an original character named Dr. Daka who uses advanced technology to turn people into zombies that he can control, which is textually linked to the stereotype of Japanese people being subservient and willing to die for their leader. There are multiple scenes where Daka is about to use his brainwashing machine on someone, and they announce that he will never break their spirit of American independence and capitalist ambition! Although bizarrely no one ever breaks out of the brainwashing on their own, so I guess the American spirit isn’t that strong?
Daka’s lair is in this… okay, wait, let me try and explain this. So no one lives in Little Tokyo anymore and the only thing still there is this dark ride that shows scenes of anti-Japanese propaganda. The way to get into the villains’ lair is to ride the ride for a while, then get out at a certain point and buzz in on a patch of wall that opens into the hideout. But it does seem that Daka is owning and operating this dark ride, which is already a baffling thing to do, I mean I guess it has “the last place they’d think to look” energy? But people are also, you know, riding this ride, all day every day. Seems like a pretty big security risk, I don’t know. I feel like this is a pretty good encapsulation of the mood of the whole thing - villain’s lair is in a dark ride feels like a normal fun Batman thing, and then also, abject racism.
The version of this that I watched was edited to be one single movie, so the cliffhangers and previously ons were edited out. Every twenty minutes or so, Batman would just get into a life-threatening scenario and then almost immediately Robin would save him. It was always Batman almost dying too - I guess maybe they thought that audiences would not be sufficiently worried about Robin? This doesn’t do much for Batman’s competence, though. He definitely comes off as less than able.
Part of this is also that this Bruce is real young. I’m used to thinking of Bruce as a long-suffering father, but here he and Dick are presented as basically peers. They are collectively referred to as the “American youth” defending their country. Bruce apparently just takes Dick along on dates with him? At one point, when Bruce misses a date because he’s on an undercover operation, his excuse is that he took Dick to the amusement park and they were having so much fun, they lost track of time. The Brucie act is out in full force, but it also doesn’t seem to be much of an act. Like, this Bruce just isn’t actually very pressed about anything. He kind of does seem like he’s dressing up like a bat and punching people because it’s fun and gives him a thrill. Plus, since he doesn’t really do anything as Batman that he couldn’t do as Bruce most of the time, it kinda just feels like he’s wasting time by leaving to get into costume. There’s one scene where his girlfriend, Linda Page, is being attacked in a room he just left, but instead of walking back in and punching the guys, he has to leave, dress as Batman, climb through the window, and then punch some guys. Really feels like he’s playing kind of fast and loose with Linda’s life.
The inciting incident is also very funny. Linda wants Bruce to come with her to pick up her uncle, who is getting out of prison, but Bruce is purposely late to, I guess, make him seem like not a masked vigilante. As a direct result of this, the villains are able to pick up Uncle Martin first and brainwash him. Classic stuff.
There is a pretty cool effect during the car chase that follows, where the kidnappers release a gas that changes the color of the car and hit a button that turns the license plate around. A lot of the effects, sets, etc, actually look pretty good, which might just be me coming in with low expectations. The Batcave - called the Bat’s Cave here, which implies to me that Bruce is just renting it from the bats - looks decent but is very empty, and the shadows of bats flying around are pretty comical.
They access the Bat’s Cave through a grandfather clock, which I think might be the first time that idea showed up? It’s also, if not the first appearance of Alfred, a very early appearance, and rather than the highly competent backbone of the family, he is a comical boob who’s afraid of everything. He’s also directly involved in their operation - like, he fully goes undercover more than once. He also gets to kill Daka at the end, by hitting the button that opens the trap door to Daka’s alligators that he has for some reason. And then Commissioner Not-Gordon, who didn’t see that happen, yells, “And let that be a lesson - The Batman never needs any help from the likes of you!” Whomp whomp.
I quite liked Douglas Croft as Robin, he had a Jack Dylan Grazer vibe that I really enjoyed. Batman and Robin are also explicitly working for the American government here, which is strange. What else? Oh yeah, there are TONS of costume changes, I guess they wanted to have Bruce and Dick & Batman and Robin in each segment? So they’re always running off to change clothes. They also go undercover a lot, Bruce constructs a criminal alter ego named Chuck White who “accidentally” lets the location of the Bat’s Cave slip. His description of it, btw, is “a big cave full of bats… and there, in the center, sitting at a desk… one giant bat, the size of a man.” Incredible.
A few last details: when Batman and Robin leave criminals tied up for the police, they put little bat stickers on their heads, which is cute and whimsical. Also, there’s this x-ray device? I guess? That identifies the criminals before they are let into the lair, and somehow this device positively identifies Batman. Like he puts his hand on it and the Batman logo shows up on the x-ray, as if it was printed on his bones. Anyway, at my count Batman and Robin broke 5 windows by leaping through them, including one skylight.
There is another serial but I’m not gonna watch it bc these are like 4-5 hours long and I just can’t. Tune in next time for Batman: The Movie (1966)!

How I Would Rewrite DR If I Was In Charge: Trigger Happy Havoc
I’m pretty sure we all know that K/daka is a fucking piece of shit asshole and that he shouldn’t be allowed to have DR, so I, a plus sized pansexual questioning teenage girl of color (something K/daka hates), will rewrite Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc to spite him and save our souls.
The Setting
Let’s start by changing the setting from a high school to a private university because Mukuro was a child soldier??? And that’s gross and insensitive to those who have/had relatives who are child soldiers. So yeah, Hope’s Peak is the top private college in Japan and possibly the world or a faculty and they take students from age 19-20. But if I do want to keep the whole high school aesthetic of it, then I’ll probably change Mukuro’s talent to something like Ultimate Hunter or something.
Supernatural Elements Added To The Lore
When I first got into DR, I thought there were gonna be some supernatural elements to it. There was not, and I am here to fix that. Gods, demons, and magic do exist in my rewritten DR world and Monokuma is one example of it. Monokuma is a demon and servant to the God of Despair Izuru Kamukura while Monomi/Usami is a servant to the Goddess of Hope. There’s also a legend around the two.
It would’ve been really cool if Hagakure could talk to spirits and actually predict certain events, and if Sayaka was actually a psychic so I would incorporate that if I were in charge of remaking Trigger Happy Havoc.
Diversity
When it comes to diversity, DR is not the best with it. So I decided to change that. There are a few characters that are mixed but are still Japanese by blood. The mixed characters are Byakuya (French-Japanese), Mondo (South African-Japanese), Sakura (Samoan-Japanese/African-American), Aoi (Black-Polynesian/Japanese), Toko (Chinese-Japanese), Leon (Scottish-Irish/Japanese) and Junko & Mukuro (African-American/Japanese). I also want diversity when it comes to sexualities and genders and you can look at them here for reference. I don’t just want diversity when it comes to racial backgrounds, sexualities, or genders, I also want diversity among body types. I think Aoi, Toko, Chihiro, and Celestia should be chubby. I think Makoto, Kiyotaka, and Leon should be too and not leave Hifumi in solidarity.
The Designs
The designs of the characters get on my nerves. Like, why are they so BAD?! You got me out here doing redesigns for free and a professional artist can even design the characters to be decent? That’s how you know you’re not good at your job.
If you want to see my redesigns and some of my remastered redesigns (which I will have to remaster AGAIN), here and here and here. Go have fun looking at those. I want the characters to look like their talents or certain aspects of their character. For example, I want Celestia to look like both royalty and a gambler.
Another thing: Why are the characters wearing the same thing every day? Please get them a wardrobe and new clothes.
Character Development
So many characters with wasted potential for character development. I want to give characters better development than in the games. Kyoko becomes more and more emotional over the course of the game, Toko comes out of her shell, Mondo becomes less and less aggressive, Chihiro learns that strength doesn’t affect femininity, etc. I want good and meaningful character moments, I want good development.
Interesting Plot Twists
I did like a few of the plot twists in THH but I think it could’ve been better. Like, one plot twist could be that Celestia is Kiyotaka’s long lost twin sister and he begs Monokuma not to kill her bc he needs to bring her back to her family along with finding the rest of his siblings. I want good shit like that.
Junko Being More Active
I would make Junko a hiding in plain sight kind of character. Like she’s the mastermind but does a good job at playing a character that no one suspects it. I also want Junko to be a master manipulator, causing distrust among the group every little chance she can.
As For The Deaths & Who Survives
Here’s how I would make the death order go:
Chapter 1: Junko fakes its death at the hands of Makoto Naegi and he’s executed, giving the characters some early development. While I did like the Leon and Sayaka thing, I feel as though Junko and Makoto could definitely work for a great chapter 1 death and trial.
Chapter 2: Motivated by the threat of a scandal leaking to the public, Byakuya kills Leon in order to keep his family secret safe. He enlists the help of Toko to help him frame it like it was Sayaka who murdered him. In the end, it fails and Byakuya is executed while Toko is not.
Chapter 3: Hifumi kills Hagakure and Celestia kills Hifumi. During the class trial, the Celestia is Kiyotaka’s twin sister plot twist comes in and it shocks everyone. Celestia is executed despite Kiyotaka and Kyoko’s pleas for Monokuma to not kill her. The death of her lover leads to Kyoko breaking and becoming depressed.
Chapter 4: Both Mukuro and Mondo are revealed to be the traitors and Mondo kills Mukuro in a fake out to make Junko believe she won. Just as Mondo is about to be executed, both Alter Ego and Mukuro come in and saves him, pissing off both Monokuma and Junko. That gives them the hint at who the mastermind is.
Chapter 5: A memorial is held for the deceased characters and everyone starts trying to piece together the past so they can find out what led up the killing game and they eventually find some old tapes and photos of their school life before the Tragedy and the killing game. Mukuro disappears during this chapter for “unknown” reasons and doesn’t come back until chapter 6. During that chapter, Kyoko talks to the Goddess of Hope and learns that Junko is actually her former classmate Ryoko Otonashi and that the God of Despair is using her as a vessel.
Chapter 6: The confrontation between the survivors and the mastermind. Monokuma possesses Junko and Kyoko channels the powers of the Goddess of Hope and purges the evil spirits from Junko and Junko becomes Ryoko Otonashi again. With Ryoko saved, both it and Mukuro plan on serving time for their part in the destruction of the world and Kyoko promises to get them a pardon. Kiyotaka asks the Goddess if there’s anyway she can revive the others. She hits him with sad news that that is beyond her power but to rest assured that their fallen classmates will be watched over by her and her servants.
With despair defeated, the others pack their clothes and food and begin the long journey to rebuilding.
The initial survivors are Kyoko, Sayaka, Mukuro, Chihiro, Mondo, Kiyotaka, Toko, Sakura, and Aoi.
Shoutout to @kyoanime3 for the death ideas. I love you/p

Gotham’s 31 Most Wanted - Opening & Rules
I had a lot of fun this past October doing my “31 Days of Disney Villainy” Halloween Advent Calendar – where I counted down my 31 Favorite Disney Villains, talking about a different one for each day of October, working through the ranks all the way to my all time favorite on Halloween itself. So, I decided…why not do something like that again, just for fun, and for a different occasion? Now, if you know me (and I assume you do, if you’re reading this), you know that right alongside Disney Villains, if there’s one overall gallery of bad guys I love above all else, it’s Batman Villains. And as it turns out, 2021 looks like it’s going to be a pretty good year (potentially) for Batman-related media and, by extension, the villains of the Caped Crusader. So, to help ring in the new year, and bid farewell to 2020 and all of its craziness (which we’re still feeling, to be fair; it’s going to be a while before we reach true normalcy), I decided to do the same thing for them I did for Disney’s Villains, and do it in January. There are four rules for this countdown….
1.     I obviously have to be at least somewhat familiar with (and obviously LIKE) the villains in question; some of the more obscure villains, like the Trigger Twins or Great White Shark (yeah, I bet a lot of you don’t even know who they are, right?) are characters I’ve HEARD about, but I’m not at all familiar with. I basically know they exist, and that’s about it. I have to have had EXPERIENCE with the characters, in some way.|
2.     I won’t be including villains who are essentially “crossover antagonists;” these are villains who really belong to another hero’s rogues gallery, but Batman HAS faced them several times. For instance, Lex Luthor has encountered Batman on many occasions, but I doubt ANYBODY would call him a Batman Villain anymore than they would call the Joker a Superman villain. Now, I WILL be including THREE characters of that sort in the Honorable Mentions, and I’ll explain why when we get to that, and on the list itself there will be one…SEMI-exception? Sort of? I’ll explain when we get there. XD
3.     The choices have to be well-established in comics. They don’t necessarily have to be introduced there (Harley Quinn, anybody?) but they have to be well-set there. They can’t be characters like, say, Max Schreck from “Batman Returns,” or if you want to get REALLY old-school, Dr. Daka from the 1940s Batman serial. They’re original to their own source material, and haven’t really migrated to comics at all.
4.     Finally, I won’t be counting Gotham’s gangsters. Characters like Carmine Falcone, Sal Maroni, and Rupert Thorne aren’t bad antagonists, but when fans think of “Batman Villains,” we’re usually not talking about the mobsters. We’re talking about the supervillains; characters like Joker, Catwoman, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, and so on. And there are PLENTY of those types of villains to choose from, so we’ll keep focused on them. With all this in mind, tomorrow, on New Year’s Eve, just like I did with the Disney Villains back in October, I will make a post of my Honorable Mentions: a Terrible Ten (as opposed to Unlucky Seven) who ALMOST made the cut, but didn’t quite manage it. Then, at midnight, as New Year’s Day starts, the countdown shall properly begin. ;)
I hope you’ll all join me for…Gotham’s 31 Most Wanted!

“Frostleaf, can I ask you something?” The Doctor glanced over at his assistant for the day. “Hey, Frostleaf?”
A moment later, the occupied assistant in question felt a tap on her shoulder; she slid her headphones off her left ear. “What is it, Doctor?”
“I was wondering what you were listening to. Would you mind unplugging and letting it play in the office?”
“If you want me to,” Frostleaf shrugged, “but it’s kind of subtle. I don’t know if the office will capture everything right.”
The Doctor unlocked his tablet and, with a few taps, revealed a set of stereo speakers in the walls. “I think these can help with that. Do you mind?”
“I can set it up, Doctor.” She did so, and after a moment to select a song for them to start with, her music was playing through the speakers and in the open air. Frostleaf had been right - it was subtle.
“Is this what you listen to in combat?” He couldn’t help himself - work was always a little dull, after all. “Or when you want to focus on something?”
Frostleaf shook her head. “Neither. Whenever the others ask me what I listen to, this is what I play them.”
“Huh...Are you worried they won’t like some of the other songs?”
“Not particularly,” she shrugged, “but I try to start with something easy to like, and most of the time they accept that as a complete answer and move on.”
The Doctor smirked. “Now that you’ve explained that, I’m not going to let you off the hook that easily.”
“I know,” she smiled. As the song ended, Frostleaf tapped her device a few times, and a new song began playing - much higher energy, sharper, and the Doctor had to admit, agitating.
“The instruments aren’t all playing in the same key, I don’t think,” he mused aloud. “At least one of them isn’t, at least. Gotta love that drumline, though - daka da daka daka daka da daka daka da daka da da-”
Frostleaf paused the music, slightly flustered. “Doctor, are you going to do this for every song?”
“Sorry, I just...there are a few people on base who are performers, but it’s hard to find another listener, you know?”
“Right...” She sighed. “It’s just not what I’m used to.”
The Doctor was silent for a moment. “I think I know why you isolate so much, Frost.”
“Why do you think?”
“You’ve watched so many people die, you’re tired of making investments in people that won’t last more than a month or two.” He set an elbow on his desk and held his head in that hand. “Either you’re drowning out their voices, or the voices of the future victims around you.”
Frostleaf shrugged. “I’ve never thought of it that way.”
“But you hate the silence, I take it?”
“...Yes.” She sunk a little in her chair. “I need the music.” As if in acknowledgment of this, she started a new song at a lower volume - a much gentler track, with a female vocal line.
The Doctor slid closer to her in his office chair, stopping at the edge of his desk. “I’m the same way, honestly, except that people work just as well for me. The others are all I have, after all - I don’t even have my identity anymore.”
“When I first joined- nevermind.”
“I was working here when you first joined, right?” He crossed the gap between their desks to the corner of hers. “Did we know each other?”
Frostleaf gave a frustrated sigh and turned to face him. “I know I can’t be mad at you for not remembering, Doctor, but do you have to remind me so pointedly?”
“It’s just that I’ve always felt a sort of kinship with you, and I thought it might have been because we both like our music and our alone time to some degree...but is there something else? Something I should try to remember?”
“...No.” She shook her head. “It wouldn’t be the same.”
He rolled close enough to set his hand on the desk in front of her. “I know that, Frost, but it could be something else. Not the same, but good in its own way?”
“Doctor, do you really want to know what our relationship used to be?”
“Yes,” he agreed. “More than anything else in this moment.”
Frostleaf took a deep breath and nodded. “Two things. First, I’m going to play a song that we used to listen to together. It should help set the tone.”
“Makes sense to me. The second thing?”
“You used to call me Leafy, not Frost.” She set the song to play after the current one finished, and then with another deep breath, she stood from the chair. “And when we turned on this song, we would dance.”
The Doctor blinked. “I knew how to dance?”
“No, and neither do I.”
“Oh.” He stood up and offered her his hand. “Care to see if the body remembers what the mind does not?”
Frostleaf glanced at his hand, then at his earnest expression, and stood from her chair. “If you step on my foot, I won’t give you a second chance.”
“That’s fair.” They stepped into the center of the room, and as the song began, she took the lead. For a moment, the Doctor’s steps were out-of-sync with the music, and once he very nearly did step on her feet...but before the first verse was over, his body caught on to the rhythm, and by the time the chorus had played once, he had taken the lead, allowing the melody to guide him in a way it never had since he’d woken up in that hospital bed.
“You...you remember...” Frostleaf’s eyes began to tear. “Doctor, I-”
He pulled her into an embrace before she could finish the thought. “I’m so, so sorry, Leafy.”
“Sorry? For what?”
“I’m sorry,” he said, his voice quivering, “for not reaching out earlier, when I first thought there might’ve been something between us.”
She returned the hug, the top of her head just reaching his shoulder. “Do you feel it now? Why I was so scared?”
“I never want to lose you again.”
“Neither do I.” Frostleaf pulled back to look him in the eye. “We should make up for lost time.”
The Doctor smiled as he leaned in towards her face. “We should.”
Older Operators were greeted the next morning to the Doctor and Frostleaf sharing a pair of earbuds, arms around each other, walking to the office all smiles. It was a heartwarming sight for sore eyes - many newer Operators asked the obvious, of course, but a specially-called debriefing from Dr. Kal’tsit sorted everything out, with the note that the rekindling of their relationship was guaranteed to be “one of the healthiest things the Doctor’s amnesia had brought to the base.” After all, when the break-up had happened, tensions between various staff members had spiked for one reason or another, and having the more stable of the two suddenly fall into a coma shortly thereafter...There was a chance the same conflicts would be reignited in the future, but it was a calculated risk, the other doctor assured the uninitiated, and they’d both grown as people, so perhaps they wouldn’t have those issues again, anyway. Regardless, it was brighter on-base than it had been for some time, and their rekindled flame was the source of that light. Hopefully this time it would last...

Dreams & Nightmares
I apologize in advance for this. It’s been sitting in my drafts forever and finally finished it.
“Good morning Dr. Stevens, you look lovely today,” Raven quipped as her boss walked through the double doors of the dispensary. Since today was Friday, she opted for a casual look pairing a light denim button up with distressed denim jeans and her Prive Louboutin peep toes.
“Good morning Raven. What’s my schedule like today?”
“You have two interns to interview, a conference call with the FDA, and your usual lunch date with Charlie Jade and the babies at 2:00.” Hennessy smiled before turning to walk back towards her office. She was thankful that she had a pretty light day, hoping that she’d be able to take the rest of the day off after lunch with Charlie. Erik was away on business in Wakanda and she had been working longer hours to keep herself busy. She loved Charlie because she was always willing to watch after Harmony and allow her to vent when she needed to. It made Erik’s absence a lot more bearable.Smiling at the thought of her husband, she sent him a quick text letting him know that she missed and loved him.
“Ok Chiron, let’s get this day started.”
After about three continuous hours of work, Hennessy took notice to how quiet it was in the dispensary. Fridays were usually pretty jam packed, mostly with younger patrons filling their prescriptions in preparation for the weekend, so the quiet was a bit startling. When she stood to investigate, she was pushed back inside by Raven.
“Call Mr. Stevens, now!” was all she said before running back out of the room. Hennessy was confused to say the least and was about to head out behind Raven until the sounds of screams and gunfire stopped her in her tracks. She panicked and fumbled with the buttons on her kimoyo beads, knowing this would be the quickest way to get in touch with her husband. Before she could complete the call she felt a sharp sting in her abdomen before the entire room went dark.
------------
The sunset was always the most beautiful thing to Erik about Wakanda. The way the pinks, golds, and oranges of the sky faded into a soft lavender signaling the beginning of nightfall would never get old to him. He was currently in his office of the great palace working on diplomatic trade agreements and missing his tiny doctor. His heart always missed her more when he was out of the country, mostly because he couldn’t just drive to her office to pester her while she worked. He glanced at his kimoyo beads, noting that it was 8:30 in the morning and that she had probably just made it to the office.
“I’ll let her get settled and then I’ll call her,” he thought aloud as he read over his emails. The trill of his kimoyo beads pulled him from work. She must’ve known she was on my mind he said before going to answer.
“Wassup Princess?” He asked before the line went dead. “Weird. Lemme call her back.” After a few failed attempts, he gave up thinking she might’ve mistakenly called him and went back to work.
T’Challa whistled cheerfully, leaving the throne room following a meeting with the council and the Jabari tribe. Challenge Day was coming up and he wanted to make sure everything was perfect. As he headed towards his cousin’s office, his mother stopped him with tears in her eyes.
“Mother, why are you crying?”
“T-There’s been an incident. The princess -,” she tried, but choked on her words.
“Did something happen to Shuri?” M’Baku inquired as he walked up to the pair. Ramonda shook her head no and attempted to explain what she had just saw once again, but again choked.
“I am fine, M’Baku,” Shuri’s voice called from behind her mother. The men noted that she had been crying as well.
“There was an active shooter in Hennessy’s lab. There were many casualties and she didn’t --”
T’Challa held his hand up before she could finish and held his mother while she wept.
“Does N’Jadaka know?” M’Baku asked.
“Is the palace collapsing?” Nakia quipped. T’Challa wiped his mother’s tears before straightening himself.
“I’ll tell him.”
“Are you sure, son?” T’Challa nodded before venturing down the hall.
“I’ll go with him,” M’Baku added as he followed. “He cannot throw me off a cliff.”
The walk to Erik’s office seemed a lot longer than usual. The men walked in stifling silence, dreading the beast that rested on the other side of the door. T’Challa knocked twice before walking into the office.
“N’Jadaka, we have some news,” M’Baku started.
“Wassup?” Erik asked not bothering to look up from his notes.
“Umm.. Well.. There was an active shooter..” T’Challa tried, finding the same difficulty his mother had when she tried to explain it to him.
“Uh huh,” Erik replied hoping they’d just say whatever they had to say so he could finish his notes and take the Talon back home.
“There’s no point in beating around the bush,” M’Baku rushed. “There was an active shooter at Hennessy’s lab. She along with several others didn’t..” he began choking up as well. “Fuck.. This is a lot harder to say out loud that I thought.” To their surprise, Erik began chuckling.
“That’s real funny, y’all. Princess called me not too long ago.”
“Did you talk to her?”
“No. The line went dead before…” He paused, realization suddenly flashing across his face.
“A-Ain’t no way..”
“We wouldn’t dare joke about something like this,” M’Baku added, sniffling softly.
“N-No.. Not my Shy..” tears clouded his vision as he looked down at his phone to see thousands of missed calls and messages from the other princesses. Erik ran as fast as he could to the Talon with the Dora hot on his tail. They made it back to the States in record time and Erik sped to the dispensary. The scene was surrounded with yellow police tape and bystanders trying to determine what had happened. Erik bypassed them all, pushing his way inside.
“Where is she?! Where the fuck is she?!” he screamed as he continued to push past the officers.
“Erik I can’t let you go in there,” Raven cried as she rushed to his side.
“I-I gotta see her, Rae. I have to,” he sniffled.
“Trust me, you don’t want to see her like that,” Raven pleaded again, holding her hands against his chest. It didn’t work. He continued forward, pushing Raven backwards in the process.
“Erik please.”
“Raven move!” he growled. Raven finally sighed and stepped to the side.
“Fine,” she sniffled. “She didn’t even make it out of her office.” Erik nodded, walking until he stopped at the doorway of the princess’s office. He stopped when he saw her, unable to contain his emotions. She was laying in a pool of her own blood, eyes still open and frozen in fear. Her denim shirt was bloodstained and there was a quarter-sized hole in her chest. He kneeled down next to her, lip quivering as he took in the scene. In that moment he was transported back to his apartment in Oakland, cradling her body the way he did his father’s when he found him. He rocked her body back and forth, trying in vain to wake her up. He kissed her forehead, then her nose, then her lips, hoping she’d start giggling like she would when he would do it in the morning, but she remained silent and still.
“B-Baby no. You gotta wake up. I-I need you.” He turned his head to see Raven standing in the doorway crying.
“I-I tried to distract him. I rushed in and told her to call you and I went back out and slipped on some blood that was on the floor and hit my head. When I came to, it was over. I’m so sorry, Erik.”
“I-It’s not your fault, but my daughter… Fuck man!”
------------
Night blanketed The Kompound in darkness. All the babies were sound asleep and each wife in her respective living quarters except Hennessy. The tiny doctor was in the greenhouse doing some research for her latest strain. Due to their time in the military as well as other life experiences, both Aly’Sha and Erik suffered terrible nightmares as a result of their PTSD. She was looking into a healthier method of curing the pair that didn’t involve unhealthy addictions to medications. Upstairs, Erik tossed and turned violently before shooting up out of his sleep. He was sweating and panting hard, frantically searching the room for any signs of his first wife.
“Shy! Hennessy!” he yelled, his fear heightening when he didn’t get a response. He quickly threw on a pair of joggers, sprinting downstairs at high speed. He caught a glimpse of her puff through the windows of her greenhouse and ran full speed until she was secure in his grasp.
“Erik what the hell?” she screeched, caught completely off guard by his outburst. He didn’t answer immediately, instead he buried his face in the bend of her neck.
“Oh, je croyais t'avoir perdu. Putain, mon cœur fait très mal.”
“Wait baby, slow down. What happened?” He bit his lip, trying hard not to cry as he stared down at her.
“I-I had a dream you got killed at the lab and it felt so real.. Fuck..” He held her tighter as she stroked his cheek.
“Aww baby. I’m right here, alive and in the flesh,” she cooed, gently massaging her fingers through his dreads. He hummed softly, rocking their bodies from side to side before moving to sit down on the lounge chair. He buried his face in her stomach, loving the way her plush body felt against him.
“I’m right here, Daka,” she kept repeating until she was sure he’d calmed down enough. He ran his fingertips over her legs and thighs before settling them around her waist.
“Can I be your shadow today?”
“After a dream like that, I don’t think you’d take no for an answer,” she teased, turning her attention back to her notebook.
“What you working on, Mrs. Genius?”
“A new strain. Working on something for sufferers of PTSD.”
“Ah. Have you started growing it yet?”
“Not yet, still researching.” He nodded again, softly nuzzling her stomach like a cat. He smiled down at him, mildly amused by his reaction to the dream.
“I can’t believe you thought I’d die by some punk ass active shooter. We survived the Thanos snap for crying out loud!”
“Technically I was cryogenically frozen,” he corrected, earning himself a smack on the head.
Translation:
Oh, je croyais t'avoir perdu. Putain, mon cœur fait très mal. (Oh, I thought I lost you. My heart hurts alot.)
