I think Dennis having to fantasize a scenario where the gang depends on him but he can’t depend on them, where he is allowed to have two entire sugary drinks (but even then only a few sips!), where he’s able to save all his anger only for the person who deserves it instead of lashing out at everyone, a scenario where he can turn bad situations into diamonds instead of letting them consume him the way they do in real life, where he himself can become a diamond, is profoundly sad and highlights how insecure he is about every aspect of his life and how desperate he is for easy solutions that don’t exist.
