Burnut, The Bur Pokémon
Type: Grass/Steel
These Pokémon are carnivorous plants, who hang themselves high up in trees to get the drop on unsuspecting prey. It’s not hard to see how excruciatingly painful it would be to have a Burnut fall on you.
Burnut’s body and arms are made out of pure copper and are covered in pointy spikes, which it uses to defend itself against bird Pokémon.
-
Burkitree, The Invasive Pokémon
Type: Grass/Steel
This Pokémon has an insatiable appetite for raw energy. It plants itself in luscious habitats to sap the energy from the surrounding plants. It will also wait for Pokémon that it can envelop with its spiky branches and consume at its leisure.
The spikes that adjourn it’s body are sharp to the touch and are made of the same copper alloy that its pre-evolution is made of. Its leaves are as sharp as its spikes, making this Pokémon almost entirely pointy to the touch.

UB-?? PLANTER
TYPE: ELECTRIC/GRASS
THIS NEWLY DISCOVERED ULTRA BEAST HAS A METALLIC OUTER SHELL, WHICH PROTECTS ITS INNER PLANT BODY FROM SUSTAINING DAMAGE. THE FLOWER ON THE TOP OF ITS BODY DOUBLES AS AN ANTENNA FOR COMMUNICATING WITH OTHER MEMBERS OF ITS SPECIES. ITS LEGS ARE SLIMY, ROOT-LIKE APPENDAGES WITH SPIKED DISKS FOR KEEPING ITSELF GROUNDED.
PLANTER IS DOCILE AND TENDS TO AVOID COMBAT ALTOGETHER. HOWEVER IT IS STILL EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, AS WHEN LEFT UNATTENDED, IT WILL ROOT ITSELF TO THE GROUND AND BEGIN TO PLANT ITS SEEDS IN THE SOIL. THESE SEEDS WILL GROW TO TEAR APART THE SURROUNDING LAND, WHICH ARE PROVEN TO BE DEVASTATING TO BOTH PEOPLE AND POKÉMON.
WHILE PLANTER IS THE SPECIES’ CODENAME, THEY’RE COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS KOLOSEED AND ARE CLASSIFIED AS THE WALKING POD POKÉMON.
(i drew some guys for the fakémon challenges happening over on twitter. the prompt was reimagine an ultra beast as a regular pokémon or vice versa, so i did both. i swapped the roles of xurkitree and the ferrothorn line to create ub-planter and the burkitree line!)

Here's today's batch of pokemon! Who's your favorite? Remember, these first rounds are not single elimination - every pokemon with at least 9.5% of the vote will move on! (Note: the previous polls in this initial round were judged at 10% rounded, so i will be staying at that criteria to keep it fair)
Also, congrats to yesterday's winners!

Ferroseed/thorn review? Big in competitive but meh reception everywhere else.
This is honestly one of those lines that I tend to completely forget about, mostly because I don't play competitive. The premise of a Pokemon based off of burrs that sticks to cave walls is actually pretty neat—and the way Ferroseed throws thorns like a grenade is fun—but I think the reason they don't stick with me that much is that they're kind of devoid of personality. They're almost UB levels of strange, and those flat eyes don't really convey much of anything. They're also maybe a bit too inorganic in a way that makes it hard to see them as regular living creatures.
However, aside from that, Ferroseed's design is fine. I like how the green thorns contrast with the gray body, and the yellow eyes help prevent them from getting lost. I kind of wish the spikes were longer or the ridges were indented—something to make it look less egg-like and uniform—but everything else is fine.
Ferrothorn's a bit more interesting, just on the grounds of having giant vines it uses to crawl around on ceilings. It also sometimes stands on them tripod-style, which is pretty unique.
Visually, I like how the main spikes are now gray, which makes the eyes pop more and makes the body more uniform. This also gives it a major visual difference between it and Ferroseed. The oval-ish body looks a bit less inorganic as well. Meanwhile, the black lines, yellow eyes, and gray body with spikes make it obvious the two stages go together.
While my notes about the lack of personality still remain, I think my only other issue with it is that the "feet" at the end of the vines look a bit distracting; I can't help but feel that they might've worked better as just thorn-covered vines with no end area to them. Regardless, everything else is fine and works well in context.
Anyway, I think these guys could've used a bit more identity to really make them endearing, but beyond that, the premise is solid and the designs work well for what they are. I'll also throw in a few bonus points for being actually good in competitive as well.
