TS3: Better Greet

Here’s a brand new script mod for you! I got sick of seeing all Sims greet each other with handshakes, so I made this mod to fix and expand upon one of EA’s most annoying oversights in my opinion.

Better Greet overhauls the visual aspect of the Greet social interaction and allows Sims to play diverse greeting animations under different circumstances. See more details on all its features under the cut! 👋

Overview

In the vanilla game, greetings are limited almost exclusively to handshakes, with the only exceptions being the cultural greetings from World Adventures and the Proper greetings from Supernatural, as well as a rare ‘wave’ greeting that takes place when one of the involved Sims is carrying a baby or an object.

This behavior seems to be an oversight by the developers, as the Social Data for the Greet interaction includes some rules that in theory would allow Sims to use different animations when greeting friends, romantic partners and so on, but the actual script that handles greetings completely disregards these rules.

This mod aims to solve that and expand upon the possibilities by making Sims’ greetings also take into account things like personality traits, social group and relationship status.

Features

There are a host of new conditions under which Sims can perform the new greeting styles. Some aspects of these conditions can be edited in the mod’s Tuning resource, such as the relationship level or social group level required for a greeting to be performed. By default, the mod is tuned in a way that strangers, acquaintances, friends and romantic partners all greet each other differently.

Though there are no hard requirements, many of the greeting styles rely on expansion packs for their animations or to fulfill certain requirements, such as: World Adventures, Showtime, University Life, Island Paradise, Into The Future. The mod can still be used without any of these packs, the corresponding greeting types will simply not be available.

If UL is installed, Socially Awkward Sims have a chance of performing some greetings awkwardly. The reaction to these greetings depends on the target Sim's traits; friendlier Sims won't mind and will turn an awkward greeting into a successful one.

There are two optional alternate modes available that modify the greeting rules, which can be enabled in the Tuning XML file:

Euro Mode: Adjusts the rules of the Double Cheek Kiss greeting in order to mimic the customs of parts of the world where giving a kiss on each cheek is a common greeting. This can be mixed and matched with the Check Gender tuning, which can restrict this greeting to be performed only with female Sims if enabled.

Historical Mode: Makes Proper Bow and Curtsey the default greetings (SN required) and disables some greetings that might not fit in a historical gameplay setting, such as High Five or Shaka Bra. Players who use the LN Celebrity system to simulate social ranks can take advantage of the Celeb Check tuning, which makes Sims greet with Proper Bow or Curtsey with Sims of a higher celebrity level, and Handshake with Sims of a lower celebrity level.

Acquaintance Greetings

Wave: By default, Sims will introduce themselves with a Wave instead of a Handshake. If their LTR is -20 or below, they will always use this greeting, with special animations if LN is installed.

Handshake: Sims will greet with a Handshake if at least one of the Sims is an adult, or if one of the Sims is a Workaholic. If WA is installed, two Workaholic Sims will greet with a Fast Handshake.

Double Cheek Kiss: If WA is installed and Euro Mode is enabled, Friendly Sims can greet with a Double Cheek Kiss as long as the target is not a Loner.

Friendly Greetings

Friendly Hug: Sims will greet with a Friendly Hug if their LTR is at least 40. If one of the Sims is a Loner, their LTR must be at least 60.

Shaka Bra: If IP is installed, Sims who share the Loves to Swim trait and have a LTR of at least 15 will perform this greeting.

What's Up: If SHT is installed and the actor has the Social Butterfly trait, they will perform this greeting with other Sims if their LTR is at least 10. Uses the Trait Bonding animation. If SHT is not installed, the required trait is Schmoozer.

Double Cheek Kiss: If WA is installed, Sims who share either the Snob or Diva (SHT) traits will perform this greeting if their LTR is at least 25. If Euro Mode is enabled, the trait requirement is skipped.

High Five: If UL and ITF are installed, Sims who share a Social Group can greet with a High Five as long as their influence level is at least 1, and they have a LTR value of at least 20.

Old Friend Hug: If ITF is installed, Old Friends can perform this greeting. Uses the Hug Long Lost Descendant animation.

Romantic Greetings

Amorous Hug: Romantically involved Sims will perform this greeting if their LTR value is at least 60.

Shy Kiss: Romantically involved Sims will perform this greeting if they have had their first kiss before and the actor is Shy and their LTR is at least 70.

Amorous Kiss: Romantically involved Sims will perform this greeting if they have had their first kiss before and their LTR is at least 80. Shy Sims can perform this greeting if their LTR is at least 90.

Dip Kiss: If ITF is installed, Romantically Involved Sims will perform this greeting if the actor isn't Shy, is a Hopeless Romantic, has had their first kiss before and their LTR is at least 90.

Gestures

In addition to the improved Greet rules, I’ve added a new Gesture… pie menu category full of custom interactions equivalent to most of the new greeting styles, giving you options to greet Sims however you prefer.

By default, many gestures have the same LTR requirements as they do in Greet, but most of them have no trait requirements (exceptions being Bow, Proper Bow and Curtsey.) Some gestures also have a chance of failing if the initiator has the Socially Awkward trait. These can all be modified in the Tuning XML file, so you can disable the Socially Awkward outcomes for gestures or get rid of all LTR/trait restrictions altogether.

To avoid redundancy, some gestures are essentially clones of the socials they share animations with and are only available when the target Sim hasn’t been greeted yet, such as Friendly Hug and all the romantic greetings. High Five and Shaka Bra have been hidden from the Friendly category and made available in the Gesture category instead.

Strings & Language Support

The new Gesture pie menu interactions are translated in the following languages:

English

Chinese — zh-TW (by Little Duck Liu)

Czech (by ProtectusCZ)

German (by McNero)

Portuguese — pt-BR (by Aeri)

Russian (by @hydro1st)

Spanish — es-ES and es-MX

In addition to the brand new strings for gestures, I’ve replaced the strings of some tangentially related interactions:

In the Spanish versions of the game, the Invite Over phone interaction was incorrectly translated to “Invitar a casa” (Invite Home), despite actually inviting the Sim to whichever lot the active Sim is currently in, not just their home lot. Corrected to “Invitar a solar actual” (Invite to Current Lot.) Other languages this mod is translated in may include their own correction of the string if necessary. All other languages will continue to use the original interaction name.

It’s possible the same mistake occurs in other localizations of the game, so as always, I appreciate any submissions of STBLs in other languages!

The Ask to Leave interaction is renamed to Goodbye across all supported languages. A little less crass sounding if you want to send a visiting friend home. 🙂

Ask Everyone to Leave is renamed to Goodbye to Everyone. Since I couldn’t find the exact string in the game files like I could with “Goodbye”, I've only made this change in English and Spanish (es-ES & es-MX). Other languages this mod is translated in may or may not include their own adjustment for this string. All other languages will continue to use the original interaction name.

Tuning

To edit the mod’s tuning, open the .package file with s3pe and edit the Tuning XML resource in a text editor of your choice.

There are lots of different tunables as I've tried to make the mod as customizable as possible, but adding them all in here would make the post even longer than it already is 😅. I've tried to organize them as neatly as I could in the XML so hopefully you'll be able to make changes easily!

Conflicts with any other mod that replaces the social_greet jazz script in JazzData.

Conflicts with any other mod that replaces the SocialActionAvailability XML resource in GameplayData.

Although I also created and filmed my own Vlog content, Azuma Lim's on-the-spot videos always surprise me. In my opinion, being able to do that type of video content as a VTuber is the pinnacle of one's career as well as showcasing their editing and film shooting ability, I learned a lot from her content.

Q07. What are other things you're paying attention to other than VTubers? Cinnamoroll's Cinnamon-san! They recently started a cooking program and uploading cover videos, it's hard to predict what they'll come up with next so I'm always looking forward to it.

Name: BioLumicent

Occupation: Former Scientist [Now in recovery, soon to pick up this field again]

Lore relevancy: He is the original. He had picked up an old data system which had been stored away for centuries to study it. Said data system contained a hidden malware which did not activate during download. However it did activate once Lumicent decided to transfer his vessel to a newer one. Was unfortunately attacked by To-Ken, left behind to die [He survived!!]

Personality: In personality Lumi is a rather calm architect, not quick to anger. He prefers to observe things. He is also rather quiet and doesn't speak much unless spoken to.

Name: To-Ken

Occupation: N/A [Hobbyist Gardener]

Lore relevancy: He is somewhat the main guy in the lore. He is a copy of Lumicent, which, during vessel transfers, had activated the malware. The malware took some of Lumicents data and stored it in the old vessel, somewhat fusing it with its own AI, thus creating what we now today call To-Ken. Back then he didn’t have a name, he just saw himself as a rogue, something that was to be hunted down. Due to that he became highly aggressive.

The vessel grew its modifications on its own, activated by the malware. The mouth and digestive system grew first. Due to that he was now able to eat. He needed materials to grow the rest of the modifications. Materials found in other architects.

Personality: He is rather aggressive and quick to anger. Do not approach unless you are in company with a guard [Example: SN-OW] If around plants he can be… calmer– but don’t bother him. Its not a good idea.

Name: Malware [Real name unknown]

Occupation: N/A

Lore relevancy: Malware is the AI who is/was responsible for all the damages, all the deaths and injuries that had happened over centuries. Its origin is unknown, though it is said its original purpose was to take care of systems, deleting unneeded files. Slowly during the digitalization of architects it got out of control and caused a huge data crash and set the architects back several years in technology. If within a vessel it will actively try to delete data from the system.

Personality: It doesn’t have one. It's an AI

Name: SN-OW

Occupation: Higher Order [Therapist and/or Guardian]

Lore relevancy: She is the one who helps To-Ken. It took a few tries to actually capture him. Some architects also may have gotten hurt on the way, but they did not blame sn-ow for that.

SN-OW is the mentor of ry-an, someone who had a… unfortunate encounter with To-Ken… She eventually succeeds and captures him a final time, deactivating the malware.

Personality: SN-OW is calm and gentle in nature. She will listen when there’s an issue and try her best to help. Her biolights very rarely change from the golden orange colors they usually have– She is that chill.

Name: RY-AN

Occupation: Apprentice of SN-OW [Guardian]

Lore relevancy: He unfortunately had an encounter with To-Ken after releasing the force field of the room that he had resided in. In return both he and SN-OW got injured, he got the shorter end of the stick. He was torn apart, eaten alive by the larger architect and left behind to die. He nearly died hadn’t SN-OW saved him— He is now in recovery. Do not mention to-ken around him.

Personality: He was once bubbly and happy, now reserved and quiet. He is jumpy, quick to anger. The attack from To-Ken unfortunately didn’t leave him in a good mental state.

Name: Do-Vin

Occupation: Higher Order [Guardian”]

Lore relevancy: He despises rogues and those who are distant/disconnected from the network. He will try his damn hardest to get rid of all of them.

He has a wrong view of everything, he thinks he is helping his people with his actions but in reality he is just hurting everyone.

Personality: Snobby, rude, will not talk to you

Name: AL-ANT

Occupation: N/A [He’s traveling around]

Not much is known about AL-ANT, all he presents of himself is that he himself chose his vessel to look like this. Probably because of mobility reasons. He can climb, squeeze himself into tight spaces and even run!

Personality: He is quite the happy one, despite looking like he doesn’t want to talk to anyone he actually does. He's a genZ at heart. Make of this as you wish :)

Name: Bea

Occupation: Beekeeper

Bea loves her bees. She decided to get a customized vessel that looks similar to the bees she takes care of. She has two, one for work, and one for casual use. The one for work is very short in comparison to architects. Do not mess with her bees, her stinger may not hurt but her hooves will.

Personality: Bea is pretty sweet (haha get it /j) and will very excitedly tell you about her job, bees and how they work and their life cycles. She is like an unskippable cutscene the moment you get her to talk about her work

Name: Cosmos Occupation: Astronomer

Cosmos is a quiet and reserved one, if he isn’t sunken in his work he will actively talk about it. You can say, just like bea, he’ll become an unskippable cutscene the moment his work is mentioned.

Personality: Quite calm to talk to, can get pretty excited once he sees something he enjoys. Never quick to anger.

Name: Ex-Xo Occupation: “Weapon”

He was once guarding the facilities while the kharaa was still actively claiming its victims in countless deaths. Due to how his vessel was constructed he wasn’t able to get infected at all, making him the perfect being to take care of bigger threats, like larger, aggressive fauna which have unfortunately been infected.

Now that the kharaa is gone he fell dormant, awaiting new reports from his warpers.

If you enter the facility he resides in he will wake up. [Don’t make the same mistake like sn-ow once did….]

Personality: Personality wise he’s just a dad. What else is there to say… UNLESS you piss off the warpers or hurt them, then he’ll become a weapon

Name: Fe-Li Occupation: None [Broodling still]

Fe-Li is a quite hyper broodling who loves to run off everywhere, following people to ask them millions of questions about what they are doing, where they are headed, why they are there, what their purpose there is and so on and on. She is the adopted daughter of sn-ow.

Personality: Bubbly, hyper, loud. Will follow you and not leave until you physically force her to.

Flo-Ra is the newest one in my addition, so I don’t have much about her yet. But she is practically a walking garden. You can find a lot of plants on her body, like moss on her back and throat, vines on her limbs, flowers scattered around.

Re: the Aegir Comeuppance question, how about the Inquisition? Iberia itself is very much humbled, but SN seemed really set on valorising the pink patrolmen. Outside of the beginning with Thiago's (later falsified) testimony, nobody seems to question the continuing and clearly ineffective-- is it exaggeration to call it species profiling?-- and what Irenes master kind of alludes to as torture camps following that. Irene even has a line near the end half-justifying it, after questioning her faith and leaving the org behind. Am I just missing context clues that the issue will be addressed again, or are they kicking the metaphorical cat under the rug here?

In regards to Irene herself, she very much quits being an Inquisitor later after she has a moment to digest the entirety of Fighting For Her Fucking Life in a ship full of turbokilling murdercreatures, as well as the death of her mentor-slash-father figure. I've said this before, but it's unrealistic to expect her to just suddenly uproot her entire life thus far in some sort of YA novel "You know what? Fuck this! Fuck you!" moment and just 180 on the Inquisition frame one. Her Module expands on it a bit further: The Inquisition and its creed is literally all she's ever known, to the point that one time she was beaten an inch away from death by another Inquisitor in a training exercise and she had to be ordered by Dario to give up, because she was going to continue getting up until she died if he didn't. That's the sort of stubborn, all-chips-in person Irene is. Her Files and voice lines show that she's slowly turning away from all that and making her own decisions, slowly but surely.

About the Inquisition: SN puts it in no uncertain terms that the Inquisition is explicitly why the Church of the Deep exists. They Literally Are The Source Of All Of Their Own Problems, because a model of leadership and command based on the privilege of some and the oppression of others to uphold morale, tradition and order isn't sustainable. UT and SN made it pretty clear that Iberia is a sinking ship and that the Inquisition is the crewmate that dropped the cannonball and made the hole in the ship. But the Inquisition, for better or for worse, is also the sole crewmate that can actually patch that hole, if he works with the Abyssal Hunters and Kal'tsit, that is.

The only ones talking positively about the Inquisition are Inquisition members and terrified citizens that don't want to get disappeared. In the end, yeah, it's necessary to enlist their aid in dealing with the Seaborn, but that's not because the pinkboyz are good, actually, it's because they are the only ones with the firepower and infrastructure to actually be able to help with the cause, not to mention the proximity to the threat and experience dealing with Seaborn.

a look into duri's instagram profile.

duri really does quite enjoy uploading to Instagram, truth be told. he has a pretty good following on the app, sitting at about 2.2 million followers, a lot of the followers being namely casual fans, rather than those that sit within his fandom. but, that's more than okay because duri one hundred percent still sees them as his fans. nonetheless, he loves getting the chance to upload photos and will often upload a photo of some kind randomly - whether that's something he's doing or just a random selca of himself. he'll use the live feature pretty often as well, where he's constantly moving through korean, english, and japanese - depending on who's watching at the time and commenting. a lot of the accounts he follows are either groups he likes, singers he enjoys, and dog accounts. his Instagram is really just fun, in some capacity.

Hilarious if Wesker took Leon's advice and grabbed the one flower the government agent was allergic to.

Hmmm well it isn’t Valentine’s Day anymore, but I’ll give you this one because it’s a funny idea.

“Did you really think it would be that easy?” Leon stiffened at the sight of Wesker looming in his doorway. “I should have known you only caved so easily because you knew the target no longer had anything of value,” Wesker continued.

He glided into the room proper, prompting Leon to back off uneasily. He only had his knife on him, and Wesker had his hand behind his back--almost definitely hiding a gun.

“No idea what you’re talking about,” Leon said. “Kozak’s files. Where have you hidden them?”

Leon cased the room from the corner of his eye, rapid-fire working out and discarding plans to use the nearby furniture against his opponent. He’d heard Wesker was superhumanly fast and strong, but maybe if Leon could just catch him off guard…

“You’re being awfully forward,” he playfully scolded, to buy himself time. “Didn’t I tell you--”

He cut off then because Wesker was moving, pulling the arm out from behind his back, and movement meant threat so strongly in Leon’s mind that he almost dove for cover before his eyes registered that Wesker was not carrying a gun. He had just pulled a bunch of velvety roses out and thrust them under Leon’s nose.

Leon took the bouquet without even thinking about it. He stared in disbelief at the flowers in his hands. The roses were a red so dark they verged on purple, intermingled with some little white flowers, and the stems were wrapped neatly in green plastic. It was exactly the kind of bouquet he would expect a man who always wore black to pick out.

Roses. Of course it was roses. An ominous little tickle started up in Leon’s nose.

“Flowers. As requested,” Wesker said. He was smirking. “Did you grab this from the stand downstairs?” Leon asked. “I haven’t bought flowers for anyone since the 80s. You should feel flattered.” “That depends. Are they going to grow thorn teeth and crush my skull in their maw?” “Such paranoia. They’re perfectly ordinary plants.” “Ah.” Pity, Leon thought, that ominous tickle working its way down his nose to his throat. “I’ve got to hand it to you, I had you figured wrong. Never imagined you would actually get me flowers,” Leon said. “Perhaps I’m considering a new set of interrogation tactics, since last time worked out so well.”

Wesker had slid into his personal space at some point and seemed perfectly happy to lounge there, uncomfortably close. Leon realized that he really ought to be backing off and drawing his knife. It was just hard to get his brain and body cooperating when the other man was looking at him like that.

The tickle evolved into harsh scratching at all the delicate soft tissues of his nose and throat. This was not helping his distraction. “It’ll take more than a kiss to make me give you anything,” Leon told him.

“Then it’s a good thing I had more than kissing in mind.” His hand found Leon’s jaw, applying gentle pressure. “If you’re good for me, I can be very good for y--”

He couldn’t hold it anymore. Leon lurched forward in a full-body sneeze, the stream of air and snot narrowly missing Wesker’s shoulder but still disrupting his evil seduction attempt. There was a moment when the two men stared at each other, Wesker looking cross and Leon almost sheepish.

“Is this a bad time to tell you I’m allergic to roses?” Leon asked. Wesker let out a very put-upon sigh, seized the bouquet, and tossed it out the open window.

“Hey,” Leon protested, weakly putting out a hand. That had been a really pretty bouquet. Even if it was making him sneeze. Usually, if he kept enough distance between himself and rose flowers, he could enjoy them without going into a fit. If Wesker hadn’t decided that the best way to deliver flowers was to shove them in someone’s face, he would be fine right now.

Another sneeze hit him, and then another, because Leon usually sneezed in clusters. The whole time he spent half bent over, torso twisted to one side so he didn’t cover Wesker in snot, his hair bouncing off Wesker’s elbow.

“Do you need some antihistamines before we can continue?” Wesker asked dryly.

“I’m--ah, sorry.” Another sneeze. “This could go on for a couple hours.” Wesker pulled away from him.

“Never mind, I already have what I need,” he grumbled. “Wh--then why were you trying to seduce the files off of me?” Wesker shot him a look like he was being dull on purpose. Oh. Huh. Leon watched Wesker hike a boot up on to the windowsill, feeling suddenly very off balance.

“Perhaps you want to request a specific flower for next time?”

Wesker asked. “One that won’t trigger an allergic response?”

Leon was almost positive Wesker was being sarcastic. This did not stop him from mentally scraping through the short list of flowers he could name. “I like daffodils.” The thin mouth twitched. Wesker turned away and followed the bouquet out the window with a graceful lunge. Now alone, Leon let himself melt into the wall and sniffle miserably. No kiss this time, and no flowers. Stupid allergies.
