Futuresport (1998)
My rating: 5/10
Could've been a lot of fun if they'd either gone completely apeshit with the premise (which, I guess they tried, because it is all very silly) or, y'know, put together a coherent narrative, but as it is, it's all a bit dull, and the abysmal soundtrack doesn't help either - but Wesley Snipes is there doing a dodgy accent, and the sport itself is kind of fun to watch in a "weirdos on skateboards beating each other up" kind of way.

In a thrilling match between two highly skilled teams, the first-ever humanoid robot soccer player scored the winning goal. Represent
Tumblr media
Represent. The importance of a positive image, both as a team and as a member of that team, cannot be understated, both from a personal and commercial perspective. The same is true in esports, where time and again, a wrong move from a team member has caused the downfall of the whole team. FuturEsports has again found themselves the centre of some attention, but not for who they have signed. This time, they have removed two drivers from their team, and whilst the reasons are slightly different, the fundamental issue is how they were not representing the FES brand to the team's expectations. Danny Leussink earnt the ire of FES by refusing to use the FES tag in his steam name, therefore whenever he raced, his name would not have FES at the beginning, as is standard (and required) for the Hungarian squad's top drivers. This situation is somewhat strange because, at the time of writing, Danny still has FES in his discord username on some discord servers, so why he refused to make this small change is a mystery. Danny didn't do himself any favours in last week's PSGL race at Miami, as he was judged by the stewards to have purposely caused the safety car to come out, and was therefore banned for three races, with the warning of "do it again, and you're permanently banned". Jeffrey Richie was also on the receiving end of FES' boot for "secretly working for an esports team as a development driver", which does not comply with FES' plans for the future. Keep in mind that teams will keep discussions about car setups and race strategies very strictly to themselves, to prevent giving a rival any advantage, or an avenue for a rival to exploit a potential weakness, so when one of your top drivers is found to be working for another team, it shakes the team confidence in said driver, so Jeffrey was given his marching orders, along with Danny. FES has been working very hard to build a solid reputation, demonstrating that they are not afraid to enforce the rules, to continue strengthening the brand. All too often, issues can be swept aside to "keep the peace", however, this can lead to greater issues in the long run. Danny and Jeffrey have a lot of talent to offer the next team that they can call home, hopefully without further drama following them on their journey. - Chris Buxton Read the full article

Let's all watch a terrible movie TOGETHER
FUTURESPORT is a real movie, a real movie that exists on YouTube for free because someone was wise enough to know that no one would ever pay for this.
I experience chronic pain. I relieve my chronic pain by watching terrible things. This is so terrible that I stopped noticing pain for about 20 minutes. That's also as long as this movie can be watched by me before I have to find something else to remind my brain what are thoughts.
And so, I am sharing this with you, because did you know that in 1998, America's "lack of clearcut bad guys" problem was so bad that this movie's villain is the Hawaiian Liberation Front? They're planting terrorist bombs at sporting events until Hawaii is recognized as its own country.
Did you know that FUTURESPORT is the name of the sport in FUTURESPORT? It's not just an efficient movie title, it's essentially an admission that the filmmakers were less creative than the makers of BASEKETBALL, because at least that fake sport has a REAL NAME. In FUTURESPORT, you rollerblade around sort of like 3D hockey, but with a ball you carry around like a football, and... FUCK DID JK ROWLING STEAL QUIDDITCH FROM FUTURESPORT?
Tumblr media
Anyway. Futuresport is a movie. You can stop watching it at any time. Wesley Snipes has a Jamaican accent that could be cut up and served on a platter it's so cheesy. This movie is a cultural artifact and it will make you worse at sports.

I’m skimming through the movie FutureSport cos it’s on prime, and honestly the aesthetics aren’t bad (cool tech, neon lighting) but the pacing and interactions make it feel soooo awkward
The main women all are required to have sexual tension with the main men and they make Hawaiian people the villains (with a white canadian dude playing the main hawaiian villain, including face tattoos???)
It’s basically a low budget tv movie dripping with y2k male fantasy

Future signings
Tumblr media
Future signings. Last month, we reported on an unfortunate incident regarding the Hungarian organisation FuturEsports (FES) with regards to signing James Doherty into their ranks, which caused quite a bit of upset in the community (here is the link to the article for more details). The controversey was strong enough that caused their association with Future Racing Team (FRT) to split from FES and go their own way, however FES have made moves in the last couple of weeks that could put them in a strong position to rebuild. So who have they got on board recently? Jeffrey Richie We had a chat to Jeffrey back in May when he signed for Race Anywhere (here is the article) for their ACC line-up for the SRO season, and he hinted at the time that he was in talks with several teams for F1 22 to make a bid for the Challengers series. Jeffrey is also a coach for Simracing Centre, so his knowledge of setups will be a huge asset to any team he will be part of. Zoltán Boda Not only has FES signed new drivers, but also a change to the management structure is on the cards. To replace the founder of FES t1mb0, who departed the team on the 14th of June, Hungarian driver Zoltán Boda has joined the management ranks of FES, as well as trying to make his way into the F1 challengers grid this year. Floris Wijers A huge signing for FES is the Dutch legend that is Floris Wijers. We had a chat to him when he announced his return to league racing in May (here is that article), who had returned in VSRs colours, but has made the switch to the Hungarian squad. Can Akicni Another huge signing is the Turkish driver Can Akinci. Can has been going from strength to strength in the F1 league racing scene for several months, and now will fly the Hungarian colours of FES moving forward.   What an incredible way to start a new chapter for FES, to move away from previous issues, and with well respected names to bolster the future of FuturEsports. We look forward to their successes. - Chris Buxton Read the full article
