Let's talk about glofish and why you don't have to like them but you definitely shouldn't hate them.

We'll start by reminding everyone that fish that come from the GloFish company are genetically modified and not died or tattooed or harmed in any way. The fish breed true to color so only the initial stock was modified in the egg.

One of the most underrated effects of these fish being available is the decline in tattooed and dyed fish being sold across the board. GloFish provide a healthier and more humane alternative to neon colored artificial fish which there will always be a demand for. They come in healthier and they stay healthier with less die offs in general (depending on the individual stores level of care of course).

You absolutely do not have to like them or want them in your tank but you should not hate and boo them because they are ultimately harmless and replacing a very harmful product that would otherwise be everywhere still.

I have kept a large number of fish and in general I do not care for artificial aesthetic but the one thing I have always wanted to see is a full grown adult pink rainbow shark and by golly I'm going to have one!

"Because we can," has always been the laziest logic to apply in pursuing these Frankensteinian ideas, and "there's good money in it" has got to run a close second.

As humans, we need to apply more critical thinking to the decisions we make and to the actions we take.

Meet Fuchsia. She took over the second tank after the unexpected passing of my crayfish. She is a GloFish, but she looks healthy and is pretty active. (For those unaware, GloFish bettas are almost always sickly little beasts on death's doorstep). She's so cute 🥺❤💖

No more crayfish for me.. Bettas are better for me. I just can't figure out cray fish. I added hide places, live plants, live foods, forage foods, changed the water often(crayfish stink up the tank pretty fast) and even added more pebbles. Crayfish seemed to be doing fine until one day I woke up and he was dead. I know he wasn't at his natural life span because I bought him as a baby smaller than my thumb and he wasn't even a year old.

Betta fish I have experience in, and it's been great with Nexus in my other tank. A little more algae than I like, but I'm chipping away at it and the water tests come out normal so I'm not worried. Him:

His water looks a bit discolored because I'm trying out those "betta tea" things. Haven't seen any negative effects yet so I'll start them with Fuchsia too.

I’ve been wanting to either roleplay or write about a specific scenario that may or may not count as G/T.

If it became a roleplay, I’d be a tiny sentient fish who lives in a bag of water and can roll it around from the inside to see the human world despite his inability to breathe air. Whoever I did this with would be a gentle human. My character would be shaped like Nemo if his fin wasn’t underdeveloped, but would have a solid fluorescent red body due to genetic engineering. He has no problem talking to humans.
