Happily N'Ever After 2: Snow White—Another Bite @ the Apple (2009)
Tumblr media
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
I never thought I’d see a movie that would have me looking back fondly at Happily N’Ever After but here I am, wondering if the original really was THAT bad. Yes, it was but this direct-to-DVD follow-up is even worse.
After her mother dies, Snow White (voiced by Helen Niedwick) grows up spoiled, caring only for the fame and fortune of royalty. The kingdom’s chances of a “happily ever after” ending is in danger when Mambo (Jim Sullivan) and Munk (Kirk Thornton) accidentally tip the scales of good and evil and give Lady Vain (Cindy Robinson) - who hates Snow White - the means to seduce now-widowed King Cole (Kelly Brewster) and become queen herself. Banished from the kingdom through Vain’s machinations, Snow White must learn kindness to save her home and people.
This is one of the worst-looking movies I’ve ever seen. People sometimes joke about first-generation computer imagery looking like something out of a video game but this time, no one is exaggerating. Every character is stiff, lifeless, and moves around like a cloud. The backgrounds are missing textures, objects seem misaligned, and everything is generally ugly. When characters speak, their mouths are stretched in any which direction. - You’ve seen better lip-synch from one of those rubber talking fishes hanging on the wall. It’s an eye-sore to watch and the experience is made worse by the garbage story.
You’ll notice none of the voice actors from the original film return. It's the same for the characters. Only the dwarves, the fairy godmother and both Mumbo & Munk make an appearance. Those last two add so little to the story they should’ve been cut. They weren't because this would’ve made this sequel even more tenuously tied to the 2006 Shrek wannabe and it would’ve also slashed precious minutes from the 70-minute running time. Even at barely over an hour, this feels like an eternity.
The jokes are never, ever funny, the dialogue inane and the plot lazy. The songs are so bland and forgettable you’re likely to fall asleep (if only you could). There isn’t an ounce of inspiration to be found anywhere. Happily N'Ever After 2 is inexcusably lazy and takes every shortcut possible. I can’t imagine anyone was clamoring for this sequel considering what the first one was like so this can’t even be something that was green-lit by some misguided fans. Happily N’Ever After 2 was spawned by an accountant; a bean counter who figured out the company could make X profits if they made a sequel that cost less than Y. It’s a disgrace.
If Happily N’Ever After was to Shrek what vegan spaghetti and meatballs is to regular spaghetti and meatballs, then Happily N'Ever After 2: Snow White—Another Bite @ the Apple is a collection of dog turds squeezed through some Play-Doh moulds to look like food. I can’t imagine anyone enjoying it. The ones who worked on this should be ashamed of themselves. (On DVD, March 22, 2019)

ROUND 2B, MATCH 7 OUT OF 8!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under the Cut:
Happily N'Ever After:
[No Propaganda Submitted]
The Glass Slipper:
She's a perfect representation about how Cinderella stories can focus on the cycle of being an outcast; when someone is shunned, they're snappy, and because they're snappy, they're shunned. Ella struggles with her place in society and her own emotions, but her dreams and love for the prince help her achieve her happiness.
This book is an underrated classic (the fairy godmother is an old woman obsessed with birds! the prince has a jester sidekick who is heavily implied to be magical! Cinderella sleeps in one of those cool box bed things [her stepmother actually locks her into it when the prince comes and it’s scary as hell] and is given some psychological complexity!) and there’s just so much humor and grace and wit in this version of the story.  Look up the illustrations, they’re beautiful!
As someone who loves both? Ella from The Glass Slipper. Leslie Caron's depiction of the character is so full and endearing. She's kind of mean and rightfully so. She's full of hope and love for those who'll show it to her as well. I love this character so much. It's the rendition of the character that opened my love for Cinderella retellings.

Ive been bored out of my mind 😩 any movie or book recomendations?
You opened up the can. Do you want the worms? XD
YES!! I DO HAVE RECCOMENDATIONS!! XD And I'm so glad you asked ^^ Obviously you're not required to take any of these, but if you do- let me know what you think! ^^
If you're here, I assume you like fun, sinister and exciting villains. So I'll give you a little info on the villains in each source 😅😆
Tumblr media
Movies:
First of all- a n y m o v i e (or episode in a TV show) with Robert Englund playing the bad guy. You can't go wrong. Even if the rest of the source is... not-so-great... the man never misses.
(In particular: The Last Showing, Inkubus, and Good Day For It are really good! Especially the first 2.
The Last Showing (free on Plex): Villain is a weaselly, geeky loser with a with dreams of sinister grandeur.
Inkubus (free on Tubi): Villain is a sexy, sinister, cunning, smug old demon.
Good Day For It (free on YouTube): just... just have a peak at what I've been posting non-stop the whole weekend 😅🫠🫠🫠)
The Rescuers and the Rescuers Down Under. If you haven't seen these and you like Disney Villains, you must!! You get both!; a nasty woman with scary eyes and no code of ethics, and a big, sinister, crooked-grin bush man.
The Lake Placid Series. I KNOW, I KNOW- you probably read that and think 'ughh why' but LOOK- TRUST ME- The Bickerman's are a riot. A hoot, even XD From a sweet old lady who swears and feeds whole cows to the crocodiles played by Betty White to her son who's a greedy old poacher who is equal parts creepy and loony tune- they're so much fun XD The only movie in which they aren't antagonists is 3, but then you get Reba who is a grumpy, bad ass milf and is that really a miss? No, I don't think so.
Going back to kids animation- Happily N'Ever After (free on Vimeo) You got a myriad of villainous suitors to choose from in this one XD You got the Big Bad Wolves (💕❤️💕❤️💕❤️), witches, Rumplestilstkin, and Cinderella's Evil Stepmother who is- just- so hot XD A wicked lady with a slit in her dress.
... are you into creepy nasty old men? Because I think Judge Turpin played by Alan Rickman in Sweeney Todd; The Demon Barber of Fleet Street takes the cake in that department.
Little Shop of Horrors. Yes- Audrey II is plant, but he's smooth motherfucker, and some of us are into that 😆😅 And maybe so are you. And if you aren't into Audrey II, there's always Orin; a leather jacket wearing, motorbike riding, sadistic jackass.
Oh!! The Funhouse Massacre!!! Another fun one with a myriad of scary boyfriends XD (and one scary girlfriend XD). It's a cheesy gore fest but of you like that or can get past it- your villains here include a Wrestler Murder-Clown, a Psychotic, Silent Harlequinn, a Sinister and Charismatic Cult Leader, a Sexy Sadistic Dentist, a Cute Cannibalitic Chef, and a Creepy Old Taxidermist.
Disney's Once Upon A Halloween (free in parts on YouTube). It's all your favourite Disney Villains (before Dr Facilier I think) in one place- what else could you want? XD
Books:
If you like hot demons and you have a teacher kink-- then The Evil Librarian Trilogy (Michelle Knudsen) are definitely for you XD You got the evil librarian (Mr Gabriel), who is basically evil incarnate with a sexy goatee. Then you also Principal Kingston who is an older dilf wearing cargo pants and is slightly silly (my favourite, and also the reason i named my kangaroo oc kingston)-- and then Ms Kralovna; the language teacher and an absolute Queen.
Dorothy Must Die (Danielle Paige) pretty much makes Dorothy (years later) a wicked slutty dictator, the scarecrow a creepy mad scientist, the tinman a besotted obsessed guardsman, and the cowardly lion a monster. Plus there's the Nome King in the last 2 books who is describes as the 'most sinister senior citizen' which is the perfect descriptor for him XD
If you like Slasher movies, you will d e f I n e t l y love The Final Girls Support Group (Grady Hendrix). It's just so cool and interesting how Hendrix puts the actual Slashers into the book without saying their names.
Hellhole (Gina Damico). Okay this is another demon XD Except this one works in... the greasy food office in hell XD (I think XD ) Don't get me wrong, he's bad; he's powerful, and he'll kill your whole family, and he has unreasonable demands if you refuse. But he's mostly happy to sit in your basement with no pants eating tostitos and whole sticks of butter while watching project runway and playing cod for now XD And his name is Burg (as in Burgundy Cluttermuck)- isn't that cute? XD
Karen M. McManus books. Any of them. (Though, I do recommend The Cousins and Two Can Keep a Secret in particular. I cant tell you much cuz they're mysteries but they are definitely my kinda bastards. If you like the characters I write for you'll probably like them too XD The only misfortune is that, since they are mysteries, they aren't acting all villainous until the end. )
Alice and Red Queen (Christina Henry). If you have a strong stomach and you like gory, sometimes unpleasant horror- these are for you! The characters of Alice in Wonderland are n e v e r going to be the same 😅😅😅 Especially the Rabbit, who is... I think, a trafficker? Meanwhile the Walrus, um- nope, i'm not going there. Moving on!
DANCING JAX DANCING JAX DANCING JAX. These are my f a v o u r i t e books. Ever. They will always be my favourite books. And let me tell you why!!- They are o v e r f l o w i n g with vastly different, interesting, flawed characters who totally stick with you forever XD And a good lot of them are bad guys. You got:
- Austerly Fellows; a creepy charismatic cult leader type who may not actually be Austerly Fellows?? Their could be a swapped at birth/changeling sorta thing going on here?? (The 'original' Austerly had a mark on his foot and the one that his mother got back from the baby farm didn't).
- The Jockey; the kind of bad guy who ain't loyal to anyone. Not even the other bad guys. He must play everyone one way or another (its the way he was written, and he follows through), at some point. He's tricky, and weaselly, and gross. I love him.
- Jangler; Austerly's right hand man. He's a stern, crotchety and nasty old codger. His heart is as cold as ice, he's calculated, and he definitely takes joy in some of the terrible things its his job to do.
- etc. There's more but I cant give more away 😅
Thats what i can think of right now! ^^ I'd be so so jazzed if you took any of these recc's but don't worry about feeling obligated too! ^^ It was fun to talk about them XD

Every day I would show a skin on Twitter, dubbed Oc skin March Madness, every Sunday I'll show the week's skins I made.
Day 1-3
Tumblr media
Day 1 is Injurr, In another universe, B.U.D.D.Y gets infected by anti-virus 8bit, which made a more evil version of Injurr! (Inspiration: Anti-Virus 8bit)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Day 2 is 0mn-1 (I released hers on the 1st due to the global strike) the scales of good and evil has been tipped and messed with leading to either the hero getting an easy win and thus not as satisfying or learning or, in 0mn-1's case, get the short end of the stick, getting a bad ending. The prince gave up on finding her and ending up marrying another. She steals her fairy godmother's wand and vows to take revenge on him. (Inspiration: Lydia the Bard's Cinderella's Villain song (and Happily N'Ever After for the plot)
Tumblr media
Day 3 is Clink and May (Every sunday will have 2 skins). Clink is a Cuckoo Clock, I thought the Cuckoo being the grabber is funny.
And May gets a pheonix blessing, joining Crow on the Flaming set. (Sets with 1 skin could use some friends (or moved into one set) (except the Baby Shark one fuck that one))
Tumblr media Tumblr media
See you day 10 for the next set of skins. (Wouldn't fill the blog up too much if I do this weekly here, instead of daily)

This is Very Weird...
This weekend saw the release of a new animated feature, a quite peculiar one at that...
How many people even know this came out?
RALLY ROAD RACERS.
I remember, years ago, when this was announced as THE SILK ROAD RALLY (referring to the real-life Eurasian trade route where it is set), but I guess "Rally Road Racers" is more marketable? I dunno, it's by Vanguard Animation, who did VALIANT, HAPPILY N'EVER AFTER, SPACE CHIMPS, and a handful of features that debuted in theaters internationally but went straight to video/streaming here just out of nowhere.
Each movie involved the studio's founder, John H. Williams, who was a producer on SHREK and SHREK 2. Each movie they've made seems to bear that distinction, "From the producer of SHREK." I don't think a single one of their movies broke even at the box office? This movie marks a return for them in US theaters.
At the Cinemark I work at, the first screening of the day yesterday had no one in it, so the projector shut off 20 minutes in. That's usually how it goes at a Cinemark theater if a ticket isn't purchased...
But, I noticed something weird when skimming all the showtimes for my local Cinemark via the app... Have a looksy-
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Seat B7... For each screening of every day... That's two rows away from the screen itself.
I go into work tomorrow as a cleaner/attendant, so I might be able to see what's really going on here for each screening on Saturday. Ditto Monday and Wednesday.
This isn't occurring at any of the other Cinemarks in my state.
I think I know what this, haha...

Last night, I literally dreamt up an OC kinda. I’ll elaborate; I was dreaming when for some reason I started to watch a movie in my dream and it was a Snow White Movie, not a Snow White movie that actually exists though. My subconscious kinda just smushed together every version of Snow White I’ve ever seen. Before I forgot what my dream version of Snow White looked like I decided to draw her! To me she kinda looks halfway between Snow White from Red Shoes and a 7 Dwarfs and the Snow White from Happily N’ever After 2 which I saw once when I was like 7 or 8 (props to anyone who knows that Happily N’Ever After got a sequel, no one I know has ever even heard of this movie if I haven’t ranted to them about it).

Happily N’Ever After (2006)
Tumblr media
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
You can’t believe Happily N’Ever After was made in 2006, much less that it was released in theatres. This obvious attempt to cash in on the success of Shrek and its sequels is dreadful. Its funny moments are as rare as photos of Sasquatch, the animation is cheap, the voice acting poor, the writing deplorable and the plot ill-conceived. I wanted nothing more than for it to end.
In the realm of fairytales, the Wizard (George Carlin) oversees the balance of good and evil, ensuring every prince and princess gets a happy ending. When he goes on vacation, his assistants Munk (Wallace Shawn) and Mambo (Andy Dick) accidentally disturb the equilibrium. When Ella “Cinderella” (Sarah Michelle Gellar) is invited to the royal ball and given a magical makeover by her fairy godmother, her evil stepmother Frieda (Sigourney Weaver) takes advantage of the Wizard’s absence and takes control of the kingdom. While Cinderella looks for her lost Prince (Patrick Warburton), the palace dishwasher, Rick (Freddie Prinze, Jr.) decides to accompany her, secretly hoping she’ll realize the royal is not the man she’s been dreaming of.
Take a look at any frame and you’ll wonder where the $47 million budget went. Happily N'Ever After looks like a PlayStation 2 game, or a very professional supermarket commercial for a local chain. The character designs are ugly and the backgrounds are largely empty. Clearly, the animators didn’t have the means to accomplish what they wanted. I’ve never directed a film, much less an animated one but my understanding is that a director’s job is to look at the script, screenplay and storyboards and figure out how to bring it all to life. Why spend the money to develop seven gnomes when Cinderella could’ve just as easily met Dorothy’s Three Bears? Why did the Wizard need two assistants when just one bumbler would’ve sufficed? I know hindsight is 20-20. Nonetheless, anyone with an unbiased eye would’ve taken a look at what was on-screen and said “this isn’t working”.
Then again, why try to make Happily N’Ever After look good when the story is utterly worthless? The characters are so flat and uninteresting it’s a struggle to stay awake. You don’t care about Cinderella because so little time is spent with her between all of the side characters, the kingdom and the rest of the world. You care even less about Rick, who feels like a self-insert from a bad fan fiction. Frieda gladly calls herself evil, which might fit in a normal fairy tale, but this is supposed to be a deconstruction of the Brothers Grimms’ stories. You’re so bored with the lame romance at the film's center you begin questioning everything. I’d bring you along the mental journey but what’s the use when no thought went into any of this? The world of Happily N’Ever After makes no sense.
Unsurprisingly, the voice acting is horrendous. I can’t blame the performers. The dialogue is uninspired, cheesy and lame. It’s as if the casting director had a bunch of celebrities chained up in his basement but didn’t have the torture instruments required to break true a-listers and instead had to settle for the bottom of the barrel - no offense to anyone in this movie but we've seen performances elevate rickety material before and that's not what's happening here.
Did I mention this is a musical? Indeed, Happily N'Ever After features a collection of uninspired tunes and unmemorable lyrics perfectly fit for the rest of the film. Are we forgetting anything else? Can any more criticisms be thrown at this target? It deserves every single one of them, that’s for sure.
Every aspect of Happily N’Ever After ranges from lackluster to pathetic. It’s impossible to imagine anyone ever calling this their favorite film and the idea of it being the first - or last film - someone ever saw fills me with despair. The knowledge of a sequel existing out there brings suicidal thoughts to mind. I had to sit through this, and there’s another one too? Is there no justice in this world? (January 11, 2019)

I am in such a good mood today!! ^^
First of all its the Queens Birthday (Happy B/Day, your majesty), so its double pay-day! Then my work day is just 5 hours (less then my usual) and I get to leave at 4 (That leaves me with like, 5-6 hours of free time afterwards!). I'm gonna make buy matches so I can use my new oil burner, bake cookies, finish the last 2 asks i have and watch Happily N'ever After (I was suddenly struck with the need. I like that movie!! Plus I wanna see if I'm still attracted to the little purple imp guy and the fat Wolf XDD And FRIEDA).
I also just posted a buncha drabbles, which I'm always super jazzed about.
So excited.
I hope you are all having a great day, too ^^

Big Conspiracy Theory Idea
So I was thinking: Man, there's a load of fairytale retelling/trope subversion stories out there...
What if they're all in the same universe (or something), Pixar Theory style?
The potential candidates for the connection include but certainly aren't limited to:
TWAU (and by extension Fables)
Shrek (1-4)
Happily N'Ever After 1 & 2
Super Why
Once Upon A Time
Look, I'm just saying, with enough leaps in logic you can connect anything to anything, so I suggest we take a shot at doing that.
I'd like to suggest a starter bit, my supposed timeline for this thing including the listed pieces of media:
The Shrek series and Happily N'Ever After's movies likely occurred in varying places on earth prior to and mid-Fables' mass European exodus. We probably aren't working with the same earth we have though, despite all of the pop culture references made in Shrek.
TWAU occurs in 1986, and is a far midpoint between the Shrek, HNE & Fables-exodus era and the setting of the Fables comics.
Modern day (semi-modern at least) is when Fables and OUAT occur, and are split-dimensional counterparts to one another. Storybrooke occurred because of a parallel universe's version of the characters were spat into the same world as Fables and coexisted without any interaction because of both the hidden nature of the world of Fabletown and the anomalous occurrence of Storybrooke being so distant from the immediate city.
Super Why occurs in the far future, and is the result of the most part of humanity being outlived by Fables. The children you see in the library and their teacher are a small chunk of the last of humanity, and are still unaware of the existence of Fables and the Storybrooke parallel world (who are also still unaware of eachother, surprisingly).
Magic had advanced at that point to allow the Fables to exist within the Super Why book, and also allowed Wyatt himself to have a form of meta-magic in which he can reform stories. The fact that he is so young makes him unaware of the weight he bears on his shoulders, tasked with the cyclical duty of reforming the old fairytales in a positive image so as to set the population on the right path and hold off from another apocalypse from occurring due to the cruel choices of their ancestors.
Please add more or help me rework my current idea, I need to connect these.

That image for KUNG FU PANDA One looks a wee bit different, doesn't it? It's the very first publicity pic that got out for the movie, waaaay back in the fall of 2005...
I skimmed through an old article of mine on another site, and I remember the world of upcoming animated movies... In around late 2005... Looking like this.
Yes, it's a random year. No milestone or anything, as 2005 was 18 years ago, rather than 15 or 20... But I thought I'd share this.
This was what was announced as upcoming back then... To give one an idea of what happened and what didn't, and how radically different some studios' slates were:
2006
ICE AGE: THE MELTDOWN (Fox/Blue Sky)
THE WILD (Disney/C.O.R.E.)
OVER THE HEDGE (Paramount/DreamWorks)

THE ANT BULLY (WB/DNA/Playtone)
BARNYARD (Paramount/Nickelodeon)
OPEN SEASON (Sony Animation)
RATROPOLIS (Paramount/DreamWorks/Aardman)
HAPPY FEET (WB/Roadshow/Animal Logic/Kennedy Miller)
A DAY WITH WILBUR ROBINSON (Disney Animation)
ARTHUR AND THE MINIMOYS (EuropaCorp)
DELGO (Fathom/Electric Eye)
HAPPILY N'EVER AFTER (Lionsgate/Vanguard)
FOODFIGHT! (Threshold)
2007
TMNT (WB/Imagi)
SHREK 3 (Paramount/DreamWorks)
SURF'S UP (Sony Animation)
RATATOUILLE (Disney/Pixar)
BEOWULF (Paramount/ImageMovers)
BEE MOVIE (Paramount/DreamWorks)
AMERICAN DOG (Disney Animation)
2008
CAT TALE (MGM/Imagi)
KUNG FU GECKO (Egg Story)
KUNG FU PANDA (Paramount/DreamWorks)
MADAGASCAR 2 (Paramount/DreamWorks)
THE SIMPSONS MOVIE (Fox/Gracie Films)
THE SMURFS (Paramount/Nickelodeon)
TOY STORY 3 (Disney/Circle 7)
2009-beyond
FINDING NEMO 2 (Disney/Circle 7)
FRAIDY CAT (Disney Animation)
IT CAME FROM EARTH! (Paramount/DreamWorks)
MONSTERS, INC. 2: LOST IN SCARADISE (Disney/Circle 7)
PUNK FARM (Paramount/DreamWorks)
RAPUNZEL UNBRAIDED (Disney Animation)
REX HAVOC (Paramount/DreamWorks)
RIBBIT (Vanguard)
ROUTE 66 (Paramount/DreamWorks)
SHREK 4 (Paramount/DreamWorks)
UNTITLED SHREK PREQUEL (Paramount/DreamWorks)
And probably a few more that I'm missing, but that's what the landscape looked like back then. It's fascinating to see what didn't make it, what certain films on here later morphed into, and what ended coming out and when...
Shall we dive in? I think I will, briefly...
Most of the 2006 movies made it to their intended release frames, as many of them had trailers out by the end of 2005. After Michael Eisner stepped down as CEO of The Walt Disney Company, his successor Bob Iger bought Pixar, and two of Pixar's top brass - John Lasseter and Ed Catmull - assumed control of Walt Disney Feature Animation, changing the last two words to "Animation Studios". Their "overhaul" of the studio resulted in the delay - and re-titling - of A DAY WITH WILBUR ROBINSON, which became MEET THE ROBINSONS and opened in spring 2007. RATROPOLIS is retitled to FLUSHED AWAY, to avoid possible confusion with RATATOUILLE, so as not to have another ANTZ/BUG'S LIFE, FINDING NEMO/SHARK TALE situation on everybody's hands.
DELGO, infamously, got pushed back multiple times. It was already pushed back several times by that point to begin with, until randomly appearing out of nowhere a little before Christmas 2008. Happy 15th anniversary!
FOODFIGHT!, an even more infamous production, wouldn't be released until 2012 at the earliest after so much went wrong during "production" up until its sale by its completion bond company. We all know the story of that travesty!
2007 also largely stays the same... THE SIMPSONS MOVIE was thought to have been a 2008 release back in 2007, and out of nowhere a teaser for it showed up before ICE AGE 2 and confirmed it was actually coming out in summer 2007, which it did! AMERICAN DOG was to be Chris Sanders' sophomore Disney Animation effort, until Lasseter fired him from the film at the end of 2006, and it would be completely retooled into BOLT, which released in fall 2008.
2008 is where things get interesting... Outside of THE SIMPSONS MOVIE moving up a year, we have a Paramount/Nickelodeon Smurfs movie that was set to kick off a trilogy and had a cast... And curiously, after three Sony-made Smurfs movie, we're getting a Paramount/Nickelodeon Smurfs movie in 2025.
CAT TALE was to be made by Imagi, who of course did the 2007 TMNT movie and the 2009 ASTRO BOY picture. It, too, had a cast and a logo. It was supposed to be about a cat ending up in an all-dog city, playing off of old cats-vs.-dogs tropes. I wonder how much of this thing got quietly transplanted into PAWS OF FURY: THE LEGEND OF HANK over the years? That too was a looooong-gestating film.
TOY STORY 3 was not going to be the movie we all know, this was going to be the version that was being made by Circle 7, a studio Disney set up to make sequels to Pixar's films. This was when it looked like Pixar were going to part ways with The Walt Disney Company after their contract was up. Disney had first rights to the movies produced under the contract, and these sequels were a way for big bad Diz to play hardball and get them to renegotiate. Iger threw out this Eisner tactic, and instead offered to simply buy the studio. Pixar took over TOY STORY 3 and made their movie, not what the Circle 7 movie was going to be: Buzz Lightyear being recalled to Taiwan.
Then you have... KUNG FU GECKO... Sharing a year with KUNG FU PANDA. I remember the minor controversy over this one on animation blogs and forums and such back in the day; that DreamWorks were supposedly trying to sabotage this small Singaporean animated film that had a trailer out and everything. (It wasn't rolling in theaters, you had to dig for it online. It was an independent production through and through, and the guy spearheading it had worked for DWA in the past.) But yeah... This thing was real... And it never got made, because its studio (Egg Story) got shuttered. Apparently it was retooled into a TV production, but I've seen no sign of its existence. If it had been made, it would've probably been re-titled.
(Update: Actually... It kinda... Was... Made? As an NFT animated series. Yeeeuch.)
2009 and beyond... DreamWorks had the bulk of the titles here. REX HAVOC, a comic adaptation, would later be retooled into an original story sharing some similarities: MONSTERS VS. ALIENS. IT CAME FROM EARTH! - about aliens dealing with human invaders - never happened, ROUTE 66 - a truly bizarre project about the statues in front of the various local businesses being anthropomorphic - got left behind, animal rock band romp PUNK FARM was later transported to MGM but ultimately went nowhere... SHREK 4 would of course happen, the prequel did not. PUSS IN BOOTS went from straight-to-video affair to theatrical film, and dropped the subtitle THE STORY OF AN OGRE KILLER. Similarly, the Penguins from MADAGASCAR were to get a direct-to-video movie of their own that would later go theatrical.
Circle 7 had a MONSTERS, INC. sequel and a FINDING NEMO sequel ready to go by the end of 2005, with scripts and everything.
RIBBIT was one of many proposed Vanguard Animation movies, after their debut feature VALIANT was released and when HAPPILY N'EVER AFTER was in production. Apparently they still plan to make it, along with like 20 other movies they had wanted to make for years... It's a very weird production company.
Disney Animation's RAPUNZEL UNBRAIDED, of course, got retooled into RAPUNZEL and was given to Glen Keane and Dean Wellins to direct... Until Keane and Wellins stepped down, Lasseter gave the film to Byron Howard and Nathan Greno, the film became TANGLED. This partially explains why it's one of the most expensive animated films ever, Disney got pretty far with test work and other development work for UNBRAIDED. FRAIDY CAT was to be the next Ron Clements-John Musker picture for the studio, but they left as morale got lower and lower before Lasseter and Catmull were put in charge. When they returned to Disney Animation, they were assigned THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, and never looked back on FRAIDY CAT. (It wasn't their concept to begin with.)
Yeah, I just felt like reminiscing about my younger days on the Internet and the first time I caught wind of lists of upcoming movies that I was initially unaware of, lol.
