Fancy a trip? Then welcome to door no. 19, where you can set sail on the SS Great Britain
Tumblr media
SS Great Britain
Her history here:
When Brunel’s ocean liner, was built in the nineteenth century the SS GREAT BRITAIN was a bold attempt by a British company to break the American monopoly of the trans-Atlantic passenger trade. Launched by Prince Albert on 19 July 1843, she was the largest and most technically innovative ship of her day, because she was the first iron hulled, screw propelled ship. Her first voyage to America began on 26 July 1845, and she covered 3,100 miles in 14 days and 21 hours.
On the return journey, because of the loss of propeller blades, she used sail only, but still completed the voyage to Liverpool in 20 days. In 1846, however, on her fifth voyage, she ran aground in Dundrum Bay, County Down. It was not until August of the following year that she was refloated and towed back to Liverpool, and, in 1850, was sold to Gibbs, Bright & Co. for service to Australia. She was significantly altered at this time.
In 1854, she was refitted as a troopship for the Crimean War and again in 1857 she carried reinforcements to Bombay to deal with the Indian Mutiny. Returning to the Australian run, she carried the first touring English cricket side. In 1876, she was put up for sale at Birkenhead, but not bought until 1882. Her new owners, Anthony Gibbs, Sons & Co. converted her entirely to a sailing vessel for transporting coal to San Francisco and returning with wheat. After two such voyages, in 1886, she was dismasted by a hurricane off Cape Horn and she put into the Falkland Islands. As repairs were considered too expensive, she became a hulk for storing coal and wool. On April 14 1937, she was towed a few miles out of Port Stanley to shallow water in Sparrow Cove; holes were punched in her bottom and she settled on the seabed. The organisation required to co-ordinate the task of recovery came into being in 1968, led by Dr Ewan Corlett. In April 1970, she was refloated, returning to her original dock Bristol in July that year where she underwent a major conservation programme.
In 2006, an appeal was launched to help restore the masts of the SS GREAT BRITAIN. Two of the masts and part of a third needed to be urgently replaced as they had become badly degraded. The vessel was successful in winning the prestigious Gulbenkian Prize as UK Museum of the Year 2006, which brought with it £100,000 in prize money. This was put towards the costs of the masts. The ship also won two awards at the Museums and Heritage Awards for Excellence 2006 conference in the restoration and conservation category as well as permanent exhibition. The project was also awarded the Civic Trust Award 2006 for accessibility. These Awards follow the relaunch of GREAT BRITAIN after work costing £11.3 million to transform her into a major visitor attraction and museum, as well as to preserve the vessel for future generations. The ship saw more than 160,000 visitors between July 2005 and September 2006.

By BEATRICE SAYERS
An event in London last week to mark the exodus and expulsion of Jews from Arab countries became an opportunity to counter the current far-left narrative that paints Israel as a country of white settlers.
Organiser Lyn Julius, who runs Harif, the association of Jews from the Middle East and North Africa, told the audience at JW3 that 50 percent of Jews in Israel have roots in Arab and Muslim countries. They had not left those countries willingly, she added, and many left as a result of massacres.
“Families butchered like sheep, bodies buried in the debris of homes in which pogromists had locked the families before setting them on fire. Jewish girls raped, their breasts cut off. No, I am not describing 7 October 2023,” Julius said. “We have been here before. It’s an anti-Jewish atrocity which occurred in Constantine, Algeria, in 1934. But I could have cited any number of similarly barbaric atrocities: in Fez, Morocco, in 1912, in Tripoli, Libya, in 1945, in Iraq in 1941 the Farhud, which claimed the lives of at least 179 Jews.”
She pointed out that Israel was “the solution to pre-existing antisemitism” that had led to pogroms across the region. “In a generation and a half almost all the ancient, pre-Islamic Jewish communities of the Middle East and North Africa have been ethnically cleansed. Hamas simply wants to finish the job. From almost a million Jews in 1948, only about 4,000 remain, and that number dwindles year by year.”
Julius herself is the child of parents who came to Britain from the Iraqi capital Baghdad in 1950. A film shown at the event presented testimony from Jews who had been forced out of their native counties in the Middle East and North Africa.
Jocelyne Shrago is one of the four people interviewed in the film, commissioned from Daisy Abboudi, deputy director of the oral history archive Sephardi Voices UK.
Shrago, who was born in Algeria, told how during the Constantine pogrom her parents and sister went over the wall to the Arab family who lived next door, who saved them. She recalls the bombing campaign during the Algerian war of independence in the 1950s, when she covered her baby niece with her body to protect her. “People had to leave in ‘62 because on the walls there was graffiti that said ‘La valise ou le cercueil’, ‘the suitcase or the coffin’.” Some went to Israel. Her family on both sides went to France, where she lived until 1968, when she moved to the UK.
Other speakers at the event last Thursday, the ninth that Harif has organised, included Baroness (Ruth) Deech, Joseph Dweck, senior rabbi of the S&P Sephardi Community, Marie van der Zyl, president of the Board of Deputies, Claudia Mendoza, chief executive of the Jewish Leadership Council, and the Israeli ambassador Tzipi Hotovely. The ambassador said Mizrachi Jews were not just 50 percent of Israel’s population but had shaped her history. “Israel today is a very healthy mix between west and east.”
Mendoza spoke movingly about her mother’s family, who are from Aden. They were forced to flee and her grandfather was murdered. “The clarity with which my family speak when they talk about threats to your life because you’re a Jew resonate more than ever today. They have seen it before and they do not have the luxury of denalism.”
But she also had a powerful and uplifting message to the Jewish community, and warned it not catastrophise or retreat into itself.
“The polling that we’ve done at the JLC [Jewish Leadership Council] after the October 7 attack shows that while there may be a small number of extremists in the UK who support Hamas, and they must be called out, the vast majority of British people recognise them for the murderous terrorists that they are and they reject those that wish to target jews here in the UK.
“If we fight as if we are surrounded exclusively by enemies, we risk by that very attitude making enemies we didn’t previously have, and losing friends whose sympathies we fail to notice. We have so many friends, I promise you that.”

Wednesday 15th May - Day 9
Another moving on day today, so off to breakfast to fuel up for the day. Before leaving the UK I thought that I might loose weight on this holiday. That’s not happening! The food is plentiful and tempting and as for exercise it is almost non-existent .. most of our moving around is done by coach. Lots of the locals come to breakfast in the pyjamas provided by the hotel, each hotel seems to provide these, but in some they are just to use for the Onsen, whilst in others they can be used in all communal areas. In previous hotels they have been more stylish, here they are navy blue and look like a communist uniform!
A new bus driver today and we head off towards the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Shirakawa-go. The village, mostly cut off until as recently as the 1960’s, is today famous for their traditional style of housing, the Gassho-Zukuri, which means ‘like praying hands’. The reason for the design of the properties is to withstand the weight of heavy snow that is common in the area. There were two properties open that we could look around, we visited the Wada family home, the house has been passed down through the generations since 1573, the family made their wealth in the potassium nitrate business and one of their family became the first Mayor of the village in 1888. The house is the largest property in the village and has 3 floors inside. The lower floor being used for general living and sleeping. A mezzanine floor above is where we could see them cultivating silk worms.
The houses are made without using nails as they would rust so the beams are roped together, this also allows a bit of movement in the high winds. The local government have become involved in the running of the village as it has become more of a tourist attraction since its elevation to World Heritage status by UNESCO in 1990. The roofs of the remaining 55 houses (originally 300 homes)must be reroofed with thatch which is very expensive, it costs between ¥ 1-3million so the villagers work together when the buildings need reroofing. There are no hotels in the village just some home stay opportunities or boarding houses which have paper screen doors .. so next to no privacy.
Next we moved on to Kanazawa, where we will be staying for the next two nights. Before heading to the hotel we went to the Omicho Market, unfortunately a lot of stalls were closed but we got to see some unusual seafood for sale. No photos though as the stall holders are extremely keen to stop any photos being taken! We went for lunch in a small Japanese restaurant in the market, which was recommended by Myumi. Shrimp tempura for Mike, an eel dish for both Bianca & Tracy (a Parkinson’s Lead Nurse from Hertfordshire!) and a Pork dish for me as I was concerned that some shell fish might slip into the dish and leave me bed-bound!
Todays last visit was to the ancient site of a samurai house, a historic house and garden in the Nagamachi district, this area has cobbled streets and canals and is situated in a wealthy district. The house belonged to the wealthy Nomura family who served the Maeda family between the 16-19th centuries. When the social class system came to an end many of these houses were destroyed. This home was saved as it was purchased by a wealthy businessman and is now owned by the city.
After checking in we decided to have a relaxing evening, popped to the seven eleven for a few bits to stop our stomachs rumbling overnight and got the blog up to date.

LECHAN YN Y GWAED | welsh (+ welsh descendant) ocs | part two: frank
You wouldn't think it from looking at his name or hearing him, but Frank is of Welsh descent; both of his parents are Welsh, having originally come from quarryman's town Blaenau Ffestiniog (near the Eryri National Park) in Gwynedd, before they moved to Dagenham/London for work and then to Basildon in Essex to raise their family. This means that he is, technically speaking, a 1st generation immigrant to England, having been born and raised there. His only tangible connection to Blaenau is having been there as a kid during school holidays to visit family, and knowing/understanding but not being able to speak very much Welsh (and using that area's slang). He knows all the nursery rhymes/child-level limericks (Gee Ceffyl Bach, Dau Gi Bach, Fuoch Chi Erioed Yn Morio), the national anthem, and folk songs and is able to recite/sing them in the original language -- but, aside from the odd swear word and basic phrases picked up from his parents, that's about as far his ability in the language really stretched. Before he died, he had been learning more conversational Welsh in his spare time and had even taught Suzy some things so she could share in his heritage -- both particularly liked listening to bands such as Bwncath. Thanks to his parents, and having gone out of his way to learn it for himself, Frank is very much aware of Welsh history but is especially knowledgeable about the cultural and industrial history of North Western Wales and its relation to quarrying (and a very specific, unique kind of blue-purple slate, and everything attached to that - including the people & quarries involved - is now protected under UNESCO World Heritage). He knows the Nid Oes Bradwr (There Is No Traitor) history better than anything and, in the 80s, he made a point of pasting a homemade sticker version of the sign that read 'Nid Oes Bradwr Yn Y Band Hwn' (There Is No Traitor In This Band, essentially meaning 'No Scabs In This Band') onto his bass guitars and he had hand-printed a whole series of T-shirts with the same phrase on the front and frequently wore them on UK-based television appearances as an act of solidarity with Welsh miners who were striking. Although he is in his right to refer to himself as a Welshman and he does actively engage with the language, culture, and history, Frank feels it would be disrespectful because he was born in England and therefore considers himself an Englishman. He has even turned down an arbitrary Honorary Welshman title from cousins (and their friends) after Odd Foxes got big because he doesn't think it's right to call himself that when he wasn't born in the 'mamwlad'. Before he died, he was very much pro-independence and outright stated so multiple times, because he felt like Wales should be free to properly rule/govern itself instead of being stuck to the imperial colonial country next door's idea of a 'union'.

Hi! You're the one person I've seen who's being most vocal about this, so I hope you don't mind me asking (I'm not American so not really aware of what's going on over there)
Everything I've heard about the KOSA bill has been either extremely fear mongering or just downright dismissive. So what I'm wondering is, what does this bill really *mean* if it passes? And what's the chance of it passing?
(Also, something I've seen many people talking about: is there really a chance this bill, if passed, could wipe out ao3? Even though the site already has restrictions for minors in place?)
And finally, is there something a foreigner can do to help?
This is making me so anxious honestly. I can't imagine how you guys feel over there. Sending you hugs, and thank you for spreading the word
Hey! Great questions!
There are a few main issues -
1) it has language that limits access for individuals under the age of 18. While this language doesn’t explicitly say that ids would need to be used to access certain content, platforms, or apps, there really isn’t any other way for these platforms to verify age, so regardless of if it’s written, it can easily become the assumed intent of the legislation.
2) it allows state Attorney Generals (like the highest ranking lawyer per state) to sue platforms and limit/censor access to them on the basis of “exposing kids to harmful content”. Given the way things are going locally and nationally, oftentimes “harmful” content is educational or representative content of marginalized communities (especially the LGBTQIA community and BIPOC communities). It’s been criticized by a LOT of advocacy groups, including the ACLU and the Heritage Foundation specifically for how it can target this content and make it inaccessible.
3) it opens the door for similar and more restrictive bills to follow suit.
Basically, “protecting children” has become a far right Trojan horse for censoring content and education material that would be inclusive and true to history and science. This bill would help push that agenda. There’s a similar bill being pushed in the UK called the Online Safety Bill (which is allegedly what inspired KOSA).
Outside the US can participate in fighting the UK bill, and boosting awareness about the KOSA bill.
Unfortunately, a lot of people are banking on the bill being unconstitutional to convince themselves it will die on the floor, but we’ve learned this year that the constitution protects very little for a lot of people.
OOP here’s a good run down too:

Heya what series is SOTUS? I haven’t seen that one yet hehe.
Erm really? I'm bad at grocking humor on the internet (unless it's a pun) so I am going to take this seriously.
SOTUS
SOTUS is basically THE Thai heritage BL. Technically Love Sick (2014) started it all, but Love Sick was mostly only SUPER popular in Thailand. It did cause a ramp up the Thai Bl production industry, but SOTUS was GMMTV's first major BL (2016) and it was a hit by any standards. High production, clean concept, tailored script, great and beautiful cast, and it made huge waves. Because...
Tumblr media
It became popular outside of Thailand.
It was picked up (eventually) by Netflix. It's responsible for GMMTV leaning into BL, and basically for the expansion of BL out of Thailand in general. Even in a way for BL being on YouTube and easily accessible worldwide.
Tumblr media
A LOT of stuff can be laid at SOTUS's door. 2gether would be the BL that became a global sensation (lockdown, baby) but 2gether would never have happened without SOTUS's success. (I talk about this is the History of Thai BL and the Thai BL Master post).
SOTUS is also really responsible for GMMTV realizing how successful a branded actor pair could be. So a lot of problems in that Thai BL industry can also be laid at SOTUS's door.
ALSO it starts a lot of tropes we have come to expect from Thai BL, like engineering, gears, pink milk, and more.
Tumblr media
It has a strong bully theme, and that is a trigger for a lot of people so I don’t rec it much. Also the uke character is VERY blushing maiden, to the point where I prefer to think of him as demi or ace.
Here's where I review and talk all about it.
Is SOTUS worth watching?
One of its major themes is the two characters eating together, which I really love.
It exists in three installments, all of which are solid and well done (I think).
SOTUS - college set
SOTUS S - workplace set
Our Skyy: SOTUS episode - a parting/reunion special
Usually they cna be found on GMMTV's YouTube channel. You should watch them in order.

I had promised myself I wouldn’t jump on the #MeghanMarkleisToxic bandwagon.
But now I am simply enraged at this latest “Lady Susan” development; obviously used by the Meghan and Harry PR camp to promote their crap, and simultaneously destroy The Wales efforts in the USA!
I have been asked a thousand times, many times rudely, « where I was from » by many Blacks/ Asians/ Whites in this country, England. It is what happens when you move to London. Everyone is from somewhere outside the UK: Italians, Somalians, Egyptians, Chinese, Americans, Polish, Chileans… People ask each other where they were born. There is a proper way to ask, of course; and I can understand that “Ngozi” (is that her real name?…) was vexed and uncomfortable.
Yet how many times have I been argued down by Brazilians, Eritreans, Congoleses, who thought I was “really from” their own land… Rude? Yes. Racists?…. As you wish to make it. But to make a PRESS TOUR ABOUT IT??!!
The turn of events magically turning the Royal Family as “institutionallyracist” really infuriates me! That expression is so often overused; and this ridicules the efforts of a whole race: people under real oppression, people finding it difficult to get work because of their appearance, you name it…
Meghan and Harry just so happen to be releasing their Netflix “effort” today, the very day after a scandal erupted around Lady Susan’s comments. They are also getting an award in a few days for their “efforts” at resisting the “racist” pressures from the monarchy.
Meghan Markle was treated very decently by the Windsors, as far as I and the rest of the UK could see. Many doors were opened for her, publicly and privately, which were not EVER for other ladies marrying into the family. Charles went and furnished her “fake” wedding with preacher, choir, and wedding dress: all paid for by him, who was made to be the most racist person alive 3 years later! He walked her down the aisle; as apparently “Dear daddy” was an evil bastard, and the entire rest of her extended family were also incapable of fulfilling the task… He also took her mothers hand to walk her out of the church.
Four years after her “fake” wedding, she has never stopped attacking them; not just as an institution, but as a family. Publicly. And as a “private” person too, of course.
This is all going to end very badly.
The couple (whilst still holding on to their titles) have done nothing but attack, whine, and vindicate. Harry Windsor used to be close to his brother, his sister-in-law, his grandmother, his friends. He has insulted them on public platforms ever since his wife came on the scene. He has been at war with the Wales for 5 whole years. HOW BADLY WAS MEGHAN TREATED, REALLY??  And WHAT DOES SHE WANT??!…
This has gone way too far; and yet is not over. There is the memoir, the Netflix series; and God knows what else.
This latest addition to the saga only means more strife; as the Ngozi woman’s encounter with Lady Susan is now directly paralleled with Meghan’s “ordeals”. In the press, people speak of nothing else but her “daily tribulations within the family”.
But Misery loves company.
What do you know??… Somebody wears African and Rastafarian statements ALL OVER their person: then only goes and GETS OFFENDED when asked where she’s really from! Shouldn’t one be PROUD of stating the African heritage they’re so LOUDLY BOASTING ABOUT through their clothing??
Again: Blacks approach Blacks with that question ALL THE TIME!
Talk about building PR out of a cretinous encounter, for ones “charity” and for ones idol Markle!
Talk about stirring up the pot! Whatan unnecessary mess! What a disaster!
Someone end this crap. Right now.

Abbey oak door 'Britain's oldest'
Westminster Abbey
The 'battered' door has been ignored for centuries
A 900-year-old door - once thought to be covered in human skin - has been identified as the oldest in the UK.
Archaeologists discovered the oak door in Westminster Abbey was put in place in the 1050s, during the reign of the Abbey's founder, Edward the Confessor.
It makes it the only surviving Anglo Saxon door in Britain.
Tests also showed fragments of hide stuck to the door - which legend said was the skin of a punished man - was cow hide, said an Abbey spokeswoman.
Stuff of legend
Research on the door was funded by English Heritage and has taken three months to complete.
It is thought it has only survived because it is indoors and has been in constant use.
The Abbey spokeswoman continued: "It has long been obvious that the battered and insignificant-looking wooden door must be ancient but its true age has eluded discovery.
"In the 19th century it was noticed that there were fragments of hide adhering to the door and a legend grew up suggesting that these were human.
"It was supposed that somebody in the Middle Ages had been caught committing sacrilege in the Abbey, had been flayed and his skin nailed to the door as a deterrent to other would-be felons."
Chapter House
The door is made from one tree, with its rings suggesting it grew between AD 924 and 1030. It has five panels and is 6.5ft high by 4ft wide.
It opens into the octagonal Chapter House, where monks met every day for prayers in the 13th century.
Parliament temporarily resided in it in the 14th century and staff store religious documents there now.
Archaeologist Warwick Rodwell said: "The ring-pattern displayed by the timber indicates that the tree grew in eastern England and almost certainly came from the extensive woodland owned by the Abbey, possibly in Essex."

Correcting Our Collecting is a short and accessible course in African heritage archiving. It is designed to introduce participants to the basic principles, skills and ideas required to approach the creation, preservation and activation of archives from an African heritage perspective. The course is necessary as the overwhelming majority of teaching and material concerning archival practice centre European perspectives on information studies. This is alienating for would-be Black archivists. It also ignores the vital contribution African-centred ways of knowing and being can make to archival science. The course is delivered over eight sessions combining presentations, practical tasks, placements and discussions. It is an entry-level course suitable for anyone of African heritage who is interested in learning more about what archives are, how they are created and managed, and what we should consider when working with archives within our own communities. Please do not sign up if you will not be able to commit to attending all eight of the course sessions. Course spaces are very limited and it is important that these spaces are allotted to those who are able to fully commit. The course commences on Wednesday 20th July 2022 and continues every Wednesday until the final session on Wednesday 7th September 2022. Time: 6:00 to 8:00 pm BST Course presentation : In Person delivery (please consider this if you do not live in or around London, UK) Address: Black Cultural Archives, 1 Windrush Square SW2 1EF London (next door to Brixton Library and the Ritzy Cinema) Contact: [email protected] Tutors: Dr. Etienne Joseph will lead this course with contributions from a number of guest heritage specialists. Course access: A limited number of bursaries are available to candidates who are successful in completing the enrolment form, are able to commit to all eight sessions, and who have a demonstrable interest in archives and/or community development. No previous qualification is required. Candidates not applying for bursaries will be required to pay a one-time fee of £150 to secure a place on the course.

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting at my desk, in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Welcome to the weekend!
Wow! Here we are again: Friday! Where did that week go? No, seriously, where did that week go?
I don’t know if you’ve seen that unbelievable story about a recent party at Buckingham Palace and a rather insensitive guest. The late Queen's lady-in-waiting Lady Susan Hussey has apologised and resigned after she repeatedly asked a black British charity boss where she was "really" from. Ngozi Fulani, a charity founder, was questioned about her background at the charity event at the palace on Tuesday. Ms. Fulani, said she was "totally stunned" by Prince William's godmother's comments. An eyewitness to the conversation, Mandu Reid, told BBC News that Lady Hussey's questions had been "offensive, racist and unwelcoming". The leader of the Women's Equality Party said she had felt a "sense of incredulity" about the exchange in which Ms Fulani was interrogated about where she was from, even though she had already explained she was born and lived in the UK. Ms. Fulani was at a reception at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday representing the London-based charity Sistah Space, which supports women of African and Caribbean heritage across the UK who have faced domestic and sexual abuse. Afterwards, Ms. Fulani described on Twitter how the royal aide moved her hair aside to see her name badge, and then challenged her to explain where she was from. Moved her hair aside? You crazy? I can see we’re going to have to give some white people lessons on how to talk to black people. See? Meghan was right! She said the palace was racist!
So glad to see more people on public transport wearing face masks. It’s good to know that some people care about my well-being.
Today is the start of my marking period. The door to my study will be closed for the next two weeks. If you knock on it, you’d better have a good reason. I’m only coming out for special occasions. Next Thursday I’ve got two parties to attend, so I will make sure I have a productive day!
Health-wise: I haven’t felt this spunky in ages! Yesterday, there were people passing me in jumpers, hats, scarves and gloves. I was out there in a T-shirt and my Harrington! My current regime is: Irish Moss, Wellman 50+ and echinacea, washed down with a fruit smoothie. I’ve also come off coffee and I’m just drinking green tea. I only have one cup of coffee with my evening meal. I make sure I get a good night’s sleep, so my energy levels are very good. Over the Christmas period, I plan to do some good walking, I will look even fitter than ever, so I can’t be held accountable for the lusty, insatiable women I come into contact with!
My Weskify Wrapped data has thrown up a lot of interesting stats. I listen to a very wide range of music, some of it very obscure. As I don’t have a Spotify profile, my data is compiled from assorted radio shows, my iTunes library and a random selection of websites. George Clinton once wrote a song about repetitious music called ‘Loopzilla’. The lyrics read, “Like ‘Planet Rock’, we just don’t stop, we’re gonna drive you nuts.” I need to be stimulated so, when I’m listening to music, the genre, mood and tempo always keep changing.
Hope you can join me tomorrow at 1.00 p.m. for ‘The A-Z Of Mi-Soul Music’. The first part of Letter K (Part One). Executive producer: Garry Cooper.
Have a fabulous and funky Friday! I love you all. You’re probably thinking, “You don’t even know me!” but, if people can hate for no reason, why can’t I love?

Building off this post, but
You might find yourself saying “while a little concerning, why would I care about some nazis in Massachusetts? I don’t live there!” Me either! And neither do most of their associates.
A lot of SHFA and NSC-131′s events are held in New Hampshire, the state chapter of American Guard nazi John Camden was part of. One of the most brutal brawls between SHFA’s associates and antifascist counter-protesters took place in Providence, Rhode Island in 2018. A number of the brawlers were Proud Boys from Portland like Tiny Toese or Joey Gibson and Alan Swinney.
The founder of Resist Marxism and current Proud Boy leader Kyle Chapman got his nickname “Based Stickman” from beating counter-protesters with a stick in a brawl in California at Berkeley.
The picture of Gavin McInnes was from an event in Washington DC. Most of his violence, including encouraging audience members of one of his speeches to go attack “antifa” (which they went and did, by senselessly attacking people on the street protesting their event) took place in New York.
A lot of white supremacists were part of a group called Identity Evropa, which would hold “retreats” to European countries to connect with their “heritage” aka nordic/germanic roots aka aka “white.”
Nationalist Social Club - 131 has chapters in various countries across the world.
Nazis rebrand and splinter--Atomwaffen Division members become The Base who splinters and members becomes Patriot Front which splinters and becomes NSC--they sell each other out and form a new group.
It’s a six degrees situation. The movement isn’t as big as the groups make it sound, but they move a lot, and they are connected to each other.
The Proud Boys has chapters all across the states and brand recognition. Patriot Front ships in members from all over the states for single events to make it seem like there are more local boys than there are.
No matter what state you live in--this is just outside your periphery if you aren’t already aware of it. If you live in Canada, there are members of these groups all over. If you live in the UK, your neonazis inspired nazis like Richard Spencer (infamous elbow-recipient)
Tumblr media
What happens in one state effects the next because there is a domino effect in nazi circles. A Patriot Front chud decked in Philadelphia is actually from Texas, and thinks twice about stepping out in his khakis again. Counter-protesters shut down a nazi rally in Idaho and the fash returning to Arizona see it as a failed event. Richard Spencer gets clocked and becomes obsolete and shunned by his own groups.
Everyone and anyone combating nazi activity is in an interconnected struggle. And if you are fortunate enough to think none of this has anything to do with you, you have an antifascist to thank for keeping it from knocking on your door.
