★ Salman Khan's Tiger 3 has impressed the audience with the India-Pakistan friendship theme and the National Anthem moment - Exclusive!
Nov 13, 2023
Salman Khan's Tiger 3 has broken records on its first day, becoming his biggest opener and earning Rs 43 crore. The film's portrayal of peace with Pakistan has caught attention and is believed to have worked in its favor. Exhibitor Raj Bansal praised the film's story and the performances of Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. The franchise seems to be a draw at the box office, despite criticism.
While Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan created an all time box office record just a few months ago when it grossed 1000 crores at the global box office. Now, Pathaan's spy buddy, Salman Khan's Tiger has already broken a record on its first day, for the Diwali day opening number. Not just that, Tiger 3 has also become Salman's biggest opener.  The film earned Rs 43 crore on Day 1 despite garnerning a buzz of mixed reactions. What's caught everyone's attention though is the subject of peace with Pakistan in the film's story line. The exhibition sector feels that has worked in the favour of the film, with the audience reacting positively to the India-Pakistan camaraderie.
Exhibitor and distributor Raj Bansal talks about how this subject has affected the business of the film. He says, "Because of Diwali, some trade offices were closed so they have not been able to report the numbers. The first-day collection is guestimated to be around 43-45 crores. Tiger 3 has created two records. Number one, this is the highest collection for a Diwali day release. Never in the history of Indian cinema has a film that released on Diwali registered this high a number. Number two, this is the highest opening day collection for any Salman Khan starrer. We are looking at 65-70 crores for Day 2. I would say this is total madness and trade euphoria."
Salman Khan’s ‘Tiger 3’ fans burst firecrackers inside a cinema hall in Malegaon while watching the film; videos go viral On the subject of India-Pakistan friendship portrayed in Tiger 3, Bansal says, "I watched this film yesterday. I had no clue about the story. When the Indian National Anthem started playing in the climax, the 50-odd burqa-clad women in front of me in the auditorium stood up. The public from both countries wants peace. Pakistan army is the hindrance in this. This is a beautiful story so Hindu-Muslim both sections of the audience are liking it. Salman Khan is terrific and Katrina Kaif is mind-blowing. When Katrina does action it looks so natural. The audience went crazy over her towel-clad fight in the film.
Bansal further adds, "After Shah Rukh Khan’s entry in the mid-part of the movie, I couldn’t hear anything for the next 15 minutes. The audience had gone berserk. The last post-credit scene with Hrithik Roshan also created a frenzy. The franchise looks solid. War 2 also looks big with Hrithik and NTR Jr." While there are critics and analysts raising questions about Tiger 3's subject and it's appeal, the business that the film has managed is also speaks volumes of the audience's acceptance. The Tiger franchise still seems to be a draw at the box office.
Sanjay Ghai an exhibitor from Delhi says, "Tiger 3 is a pure mass entertainer with a good story line. It has an appeal for the family audience and I can clearly say, since I have watched the film, it will draw both the classes and the masses. The business on the second day should be around Rs 60 crore."

Indian smartphone market rebounds 20% in Q4 2023
Tumblr media
Indian smartphone market rebounds 20% in Q4 2023, closing full year with 2% decline Thursday, 18 January 2024 - The latest Canalys research shows Indian smartphone vendors capitalized on robust festival season demand and propelled Q4 shipments to 38.9 million units, a stellar 20% year-on-year rebound. Samsung maintained pole position in Q4 2023 with a market share of 20% and shipments of 7.6 million units. Xiaomi continued its robust performance, claiming second place by shipping 7.2 million units. vivo secured third position with shipments of 7.0 million units, while realme and OPPO (excluding OnePlus) rounded out the top five by shipping 4.5 million and 3.7 million units, respectively. For 2023, India’s smartphone market maintained stability with 148.6 million shipments overall, a minor drop of 2%. The market demonstrated resilience, thanks to improved consumer confidence in the latter part of the year, and despite vendors facing inventory challenges, minimal inflation improvements and fluctuating demand for most of the year. “In 2023, growing investment in mainline retail space proved beneficial not only for vendors but also allowed the overall market to stabilize,” said Sanyam Chaurasia, Senior Analyst at Canalys Brands such as Xiaomi and realme saw their highest offline shipment share in Q4. Xiaomi democratized its portfolio, contributing equally to offline and online channels, making its highest offline channel contribution quarter. Its Redmi 12 5G and recently launched Redmi 13C series contributed to its offline share, each surpassing a million shipments. Similarly, realme also shipped devices with equal channel contribution, with the Narzo series driven by e-commerce, while the remaining portfolio continued to dominate offline channels. To further enhance their positions in the premium space, brands should continually focus on bolstering the confidence of their channel partners. “The premium segment witnessed robust growth, thanks to easy financing options, incentive schemes for retailers and rising disposable income,” said Chaurasia. “With the celebration of Diwali in November 2023, Apple got the opportunity to push the latest iPhone 15 series during the festive sales, contributing more than 50% to its shipments in Q4. Additionally, discounts on the previous-generation iPhone 14 and iPhone 13 models during online sales resulted in Apple’s record shipments, allowing it to capture 7% market share in India. Similarly, Samsung had set aggressive retail targets for its premium Galaxy S23 series to drive premium segment growth. Along with this, Samsung’s latest Galaxy S23 FE launch in Q4 drove shipments, thanks to compelling banking deals.” “Vendors are entering 2024’s ‘Election Year’ with improved indicators for the consumer market with manageable inflation, a steady interest rate and clear visibility of a stable government to come into power,” said Chaurasia. “Canalys expects the Indian smartphone market to grow by mid-single digits in 2024, driven by affordable 5G and the pandemic period replacement cycle. But the biggest challenge for vendors this year will be to manage the rising bill of materials costs.” Indian smartphone shipments and annual growth  Canalys Smartphone Market Pulse: Q4 2023 Vendor Q4 2023 shipments (million)Q4 2023  market  share Q4 2022 shipments (million)Q4 2022  market  share Annual  growth Samsung 7.6 20% 6.7 21% 14% Xiaomi 7.2 18% 5.5 17% 31% vivo 7.0 18% 6.4 20% 10% realme 4.5 12% 2.7 8% 69% OPPO 3.7 10% 4.0 12% -5% Others 8.9 23% 7.3 22% 23% Total 38.9 100% 32.4 100% 20%    Note: Xiaomi estimates include sub-brand POCO. Tiger 3 Roars: Salman Khan Clinches Blockbuster Status with Global Gross Surpassing Rs 200 Crore on Day 3
Salman Khan's triumphant return to the big screen is evident as "Tiger 3" achieves blockbuster status, crossing the impressive milestone of Rs 200 crore in global gross just three days after its release. The latest addition to YRF's Spy Universe has solidified Salman Khan's comeback, marking his 17th film to surpass the Rs 100 crore nett mark.
"Tiger 3" set records from its unconventional Sunday opening on Diwali, raking in Rs 44 crore. The film experienced remarkable growth on its second day, adding Rs 58 crore to its earnings. The total nett domestic collection now stands at Rs 146 crore. Globally, the movie has soared past Rs 220 crore, positioning it to potentially surpass the Rs 330 crore global gross of "Ek Tha Tiger" from over a decade ago, although still trailing behind "Tiger Zinda Hai," which grossed Rs 565 crore in 2017.
On its third day, "Tiger 3" reported a 33% occupancy rate for the Hindi version, while the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions had occupancy rates under 20%. The film's appeal in South Indian regions appears to be less pronounced compared to Shah Rukh Khan's 2023 hits, "Pathaan" and "Jawan," both of which crossed the coveted Rs 1000 crore mark globally. Salman Khan aims to surpass his highest-grossing film, "Bajrangi Bhaijaan," which earned over Rs 900 crore worldwide, and eventually surpass the Rs 475 global gross posted by Hrithik Roshan's "War."
Directed by Maneesh Sharma and starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, "Tiger 3" is the fifth installment in YRF's interconnected spy film universe, featuring cameos from Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan, setting the stage for future installments like "War 2" and the much-anticipated clash of "Tiger vs Pathaan." Ram Setu, Thank God: Will Bollywood's Diwali releases create a dhamaka at the box office? - #BigStory
The festival of Diwali brings along a lot of cheer and like every business, even the film industry waits for a dhamaka with their festive releases. The past few months have not been great for Hindi movies and given the fact that none of the festive releases this year, be it Heropanti 2, Runway 34, or Laal Singh Chaddha, Rakshabandhan, have performed upto the mark. All eyes are now on the two Diwali releases — Ajay Devgn, Siddharth Malhotra and Rakul Preet starrer Thank God, and Akshay Kumar, Jacqueline Fernandes and Nushrratt Bharuccha starrer Ram Setu — to work their magic at the ticket windows.
If we look back at the performances of Bollywood’s Diwali release over the past decade, the collections have almost always been impressive. While Ra.One (2011) grossed about Rs 221 crore worldwide, Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012) collected Rs 235 crore. In the same year, Son of Sardaar grossed Rs 163 crore despite a clash. The following year, Krissh 3 shattered records with a worldwide gross collection of about Rs 384 crore, which was soon broken by Happy New Year next year as the film collected Rs 385 crore. In 2015, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo collected Rs 395 crore which has been the highest for a Diwali release. In 2016, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil clashed with Shivaay. While ADHM collected Rs 229 crore, Shivaay ended up with Rs 124 crore. Golmaal Again (2017) earned Rs 311 crore while Thugs of Hindostan (2018) amassed Rs 320 crore despite poor reviews. 2019 releases Housefull 4, Made In China and Saand Ki Aankh registered collections of Rs 280 crore, Rs 12.78 crore and Rs 23.67 crore respectively. Diwali in 2020 saw films clashing on OTT due to the pandemic but the following year when theatres reopened, Sooryavanshi brought back festive cheer with a collection of about Rs 295 crore worldwide.
Tumblr media
This year, both Thank God and Ram Setu have had their share of controversies ahead of their release, but yet the kind of buzz that Diwali releases create every year has been amiss. Besides there are some promising regional films like Gandhada Gudi, Sardar, Padavettu and Har Har Mahadev vying for the audiences’ attention. Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam has also hit the screens this week and there is massive buzz around it already. Amidst all the noise, will Bollywood be able to revive its magic? Will Ram Setu and Thank God create a Diwali dhamaka at the box office?
In today’s #BigStory, we reached out to filmmakers and trade analysts to find out. Read on.
Thank God vs Ram Setu
While the advance bookings for Thank God and Ram Setu look neck-to-neck, trade circuit predicts the collections may not be that impressive as other Diwali releases. Film distributor and analyst Raj Bansal has his doubts. “There is no excitement around both the films and the audience have not been going to the theatres like they used to. The content of the films is a big factor. It’s always the family entertainment films that work on Diwali. So out of the two, I feel Thank God will take over Ram Setu,” he says.

Diwali sets in early for malls, apparel & lifestyle retailers
Apparel and lifestyle retailers as well as malls said they are seeing record sales growth in the past few weeks despite the inauspicious Shraddha period and expect demand to hit a decade high during the festive season starting with Navratri next week. “The demand we are currently seeing is the highest since we entered the country and a number of factors are driving sales, including positive…

TYPES OF EVENTS
Tumblr media
Event management is a vast industry, be it any country. An event can be described as a public assembly for celebration, education, marketing, or reunion. Events can be classified based on their size, type, and context.
According to me, events can be classified into 5 major categories, namely:
CORPORATE EVENTS
FESTIVALS
VIRTUAL EVENTS
FUNDRAISING EVENTS
SOCIAL EVENTS
Let’s know about the further classifications of each one of them.
CORPORATE EVENTS
Seminars - Seminars are the most common type of corporate event. A seminar is organized with a particular target public in mind and aims to communicate highly pertinent information. This type of event can be held at a community location, your company headquarters, or even online via a platform like a Zoom meeting or Google Meet.
Conferences - Conferences are much more complex events to embolden conversations and offer people a platform to share their expertise. Conferences are one of the most fruitful types of business networking events, usually beginning with a keynote session before moving to interviews, roundtables, and panel discussions.
Trade Shows - Trade shows offer a chance to display your latest product and introduce your brand to other businesses or the general public. As the focus is on displaying or exhibiting products, trade shows usually take place in spacious venues with room for lots of vendors. As a result, they present a great opportunity to generate sales leads.
FESTIVALS
Music Festivals - To host a successful music festival, it’s best to curate acts in related genres, as this helps you to narrow down your audience and target them appropriately. Though in-person music events require big space and a hefty budget.
Food Festivals - Food festivals involve a combination of food trucks, live demonstrations, and tents selling foodie goodies like innovative ingredients or the latest kitchen tools. They’re often focused on a certain theme, such as vegan food or international cuisine, and are a great way to bring a local community together.
Festival fairs - Many event planners organize fairs based on certain festivals. For instance, in India, you may have seen or heard about Diwali Mela, or Teej Fair, etc. Internationally, festival fairs may include the 4th July fair or New Year Event. These types of events include stalls of small businesses and food counters.
VIRTUAL EVENTS
Webinars - Webinar is an online version of the seminar. Both are similar types of events. The only difference is that a webinar is held virtually like on Zoom App or Google Meet app. Some company’s also own a YouTube channel, so for a large audience, the webinar is conducted over YouTube Live Streaming. A webinar involves an online presentation to a virtual audience around a specific topic, whether it be academic, like a historical event, or business-focused, like a sales masterclass.
Interactive Performances - Enterprising performers have found new ways to hold plays and other performances live. Stand-up comedy gigs can be hosted online, with people paying extra for a VIP ticket which allows them access to the virtual audience (and the opportunity to be “picked on” by the host) while everyone else watches in safety from a Livestream.
Summits - This collaborative event type is similar to an in-person conference, except it takes place virtually. Tickets give the attendees access to numerous talks, interviews, and presentations, all following a similar theme.
FUNDRAISING EVENTS
Auctions - An auction is usually a process of buying and selling goods or services by offering them up for bid, taking bids, and then selling the item to the highest bidder or buying the item from the lowest bidder.
Gala Dinners - These often glamorous events usually feature a fancy meal along with entertainment. Attendees pay for a seat at a table and, once they arrive, are encouraged to give generously via an auction, raffle, or competition. For these events, it’s often worth asking suppliers to become sponsors by reducing or waiving their fees in exchange for the opportunity to align themselves with a good cause.
SOCIAL EVENTS
Reunions - From a get-together with old classmates to an event that marks an important anniversary, reunions are often highly personal occasions. Speeches, a DJ playing songs everyone used to dance to, a slideshow of old photos – essentially, the event should help people reminisce. Hiring a photographer and videographer will help to record the new memories being made. And if invitees are living in destinations across the world, making your reunion a virtual one will give everyone the opportunity to attend.
Themed parties - A great event creator will always find an excuse to celebrate, and hosting a themed party can really help when it comes to making decisions around marketing, decorating, and catering.
Weddings/engagements/Birthdays/Anniversaries - These are the most common social events. And, I think the name is kind of self-explanatory.
Hope it was helpful!

★ Bollywood’s 100 crore streak in India: Akshay Kumar plus Shah Rukh Khan plus Ajay Devgn is equal to Salman Khan!
May 2, 2023
On Sunday, Salman Khan’s Eid 2023 release, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan, entered the Rs. 100 crore club at the box office in India. The film has proved to be the 16th film of Salman Khan to enter the Rs. 100 crore club at the domestic box office, making it the highest ever for an actor in India. What makes this feat even bigger is the fact that Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan is the 16th consecutive Rs. 100 crore film for megastar Salman Khan.
Salman’s affair with the Rs. 100 crore club started way back in 2010 with Dabanggand since then it has been no looking back. Dabangg was followed by Ready, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Jai Ho, Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, Sultan, Tubelight, Tiger Zinda Hai, Race 3, Bharat, Dabangg 3 and now, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan. The historic streak will continue with Tiger 3 on Diwali making it 17 in a row for Salman Khan. A person’s stardom is often judged by what his bad films do at the box office and for Salman Khan, the number starts from Rs. 100 crore, speaking volumes about his unparalleled stardom and reach among the masses. There's a struggle for others to reach Rs. 100 crores with good films and here is Salman, whose rejected films have also done Rs. 100 crores at the domestic box office (though we hope, he doesn't take his stardom for granted and does films with better and able directors)
All his contemporaries have had the streak of 100 crore films broken last decade, but Salman Khan is standing tall like a Tiger and ready to roar with more films in the 100-crore club. With 16 back-to-back 100 crore films already, this record will stay unchallenged for years to come by, or who knows, it may just be one of those rare records to stay unchallenged for the coming few decades. None of the contemporaries from today’s time are even close to hitting 16 back-to-back 100 crore films at this point in time, in fact, everyone except for Salman has their streak of 100 crore films broken. And given the way films are being made in today’s time as also actors taking their time to do 1 film a year, this streak will remain unchallenged for at-least 20 more years, and that too subject to someone from the younger lot showing this level of consistency.
This is god-level domination at the box office by Salman Khan as he is competing with no one but himself. There’s no one even close to Salman in the list of consecutive 100 crore films. The second best on the list of consecutive films in the Rs. 100 crore club is Akshay Kumar, with 6 films in a row – Gold, 2.0, Kesari, Mission Mangal, Housefull 4, and Good Newwz. The streak however stands broken now and he will have to start the count from 0 again. It’s a neck-to-neck battle between Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn, who have a streak of delivering 5 back-to-back Rs. 100 crore films – Golmaal Again, Raid, Total Dhamaal, De De Pyaar De, and Tanhaji. However, much like Akshay, even Ajay’s streak is broken and he will have to start it from zero at this point in time to get back and challenge the consecutive 100 crore films. Shah Rukh Khan has 6 consecutive Rs. 100 crore films – Ra One, Don 2, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Chennai Express, Happy New Year and Dilwale. His streak is also broken and he is now standing at with his first Rs. 100 crore film with Pathaan, which is poised to hit 3 by the end of this year. Same for Ranveer Singh who once upon a time delivered 4 back-to-back Rs 100 crore films but now stands at zero.
Aamir Khan has a streak of 4 consecutive Rs. 100 crore films – Dhoom 3, PK, Dangal, and Thugs of Hindostan, which is now broken by Laal Singh Chaddha, followed by Hrithik Roshan, with 3 in a row for Rs. 100 crore films. Which of the aforementioned actors will break Salman Khan’s historic streak? Or will it remain an unchallenged record in the years to come by. Do let us know.

Not yet a cashless society (LA Times) At first glance, cash would appear to be on its way out. Sweden has almost eliminated its use for payments. In America, home of the almighty dollar, almost a third of the population gets through a typical week without using a single banknote. Businesses are experimenting with going cashless, hoping to speed up transactions, combat theft and create a safer environment for their employees. India's gold demand to keep rising after big jump in 2021: WGC
Tumblr media
India's gold consumption is expected to rise further in 2022 after jumping 79% last year as pent-up demand and an improvement in consumer confidence are seen boosting retail jewellery sales, the World Gold Council (WGC) said on Friday.
Gold consumption in 2022 will likely be 800-850 tonnes versus 797.3 tonnes last year, the highest in six years, Somasundaram PR, regional chief executive officer of WGC's Indian operations, told Reuters.
Indian demand has averaged 769.7 tonnes over the last 10 years.
A rise in consumption by the world's second-biggest gold consumer would help global prices, but could widen India's trade deficit and put pressure on the ailing rupee.
"Muted wedding celebrations due to restrictions mean more savings and that money is flowing into gold," Somasundaram said.
Indian authorities imposed various restrictions on wedding celebrations due to the coronavirus outbreak and some people postponed weddings until 2022, he said.
Gold is an essential part of the bride's dowry in India and also a popular gift from family and guests at weddings.
In December quarter, gold consumption nearly doubled from a year ago to a record 343.9 tonnes as retail purchases were robust during the key Hindu festivals Dussehra and Diwali, the WGC said in a report published on Friday.
In 2021 weddings lifted demand in urban areas, while rural demand was supported by ample monsoon rainfall, which raised crop production, Somasundaram said.
There is greater acceptance at the current price level from Indian consumers, he said.
Local gold prices were trading around 48,000 rupees per 10 grams this week after hitting a record high of 56,191 rupees in August 2020.
Demand for coins and bars, known as investment demand, surged 43% in 2022 to 186.5 tonnes, the WGC said.
"We expect Indian investment demand to remain healthy as we head into 2022. It may receive support from higher inflation expectations and possible weakness in the rupee due to the widening trade deficit," it said.
