One of my fav hcs is that walburga and orion were responsible for sacking the old caretaker who had the job before filch.

We know that one was still in place when molly (and presumably Bellatrix) were in school, and stopped working there at some point afterwards. I think pottermore (or the hp wiki) puts his retirement around '73.

So I hc that sirius started to attend hogwarts and early on started to get into trouble. Detentions left and right. And the old caretaker had a cruel streak, we know that bc molly tells Harry about the bruises she got for sneaking out with Arthur. So sirius would also have gotten beaten up in his early years.

But since its unlikely that the most ancient and noble house of black looked kindly on corporeal punishment of their offspring, the parents would have put heaven and hell into motion to get him fired.

My hc goes on that dumbledore was not happy about their outvoting him, so he got petty and gave filch, a squib, into that position.

I do think dumbledore himself might have some doubts about beating up kids, so he would have put an end to that, but maybe he was also just outvoted by the pta, but filch does have some years of thumbscrews and such under his belt

Anyway I still enjoy the image of walburga storming into hogwarts to fire the man who dares to hit HER son

I honestly hate how Snape is represented as this misunderstood amazing character. Like he was a kids worst fear at 13. He was horrible to Harry because of his father. How can anyone glorify that?

I don’t think we talk enough about the events that occurred during Tom Riddles childhood and teenage years. He lived in the muggle world. He was a kid during the Great Depression and was 14 during the Blitz. He had to deal with rations and black outs and all the fear that comes with living in a country at war and his slytherin peers probably didn’t worry about it at all themselves since the war with Grindlewald was mostly on the continent.

I know canon states that Tom Riddle was born without the ability to love and all that but I think his quest for immortality probably began after spending the summer curled up in a bomb shelter alone.

-James Sirius started going by his initials, JS, in his first year.

JS slowly morphed into Jace. when he landed the Chaser position, it changed to Chase.

His siblings and cousins call him Jim, much to his dismay.

-Albus Severus was bullied for his name in primary and at hogwarts; Albus was not a common name at all

His family are the only ones allowed call him Albus, and the only ones he doesn't snap at after he changes his middle name to John

-Lily Luna thought herself somewhat blessed by her name. No one jumps to her aunt or her grandmother when they hear it. just a normal name.

but then she goes to Hogwarts, and quickly tells everyone to call her Lou.

-Fred II can't help but think his parents regret naming him this everytime they talk to him.

once he starts hogwarts, he starts telling people to call him Fredrick, mostly to be funny.

then people start calling him Ricky, and he takes the out.

-Molly II was always immediately recognized as Molly Weasley's granddaughter. they had the same name, so.

so when her primary teacher thought her name was Milly, she just smiled and nodded.

[I love young peter, people exclude him when they talk abt marauders era, but he was part of marauders, he was their friend and that's why the betrayal was so devastating] — image's link

Peter had always been a lonely person, had never had friends, until hogwarts.

That day on the train, when james potter, the charming guy, talked to him, he felt seen, for the first time.

Peter was caring, he always looked around, noticed things and people. he tried to be helpful to the marauders, the only friends he ever had.

He was quiet, but he soon learned not to allow himself to be trampled over.

He was an important figure in the group, gave good advice (being a good observer) and was able to devise exceptional pranks.

I think he was very close to sirius, even more than he was with james. they talked about family (A LOT), and comforted each other (they had both family issues).

Peter and Remus were very similar (in some respects) and had a brotherly relationship. they made fun of james and sirius and had fun analyzing people they knew.

Then one day everything changed, the war was ever closer and the fear grew stronger. Peter knew he couldn’t handle the pressure and felt he didn’t have the courage to fight, not as much as his friends.

He let himself be carried away and joined the order of the phoenix with others hogwarts' students, and not. At first everything went well, everything seemed to work.

He was convinced he was on the right side of the war, but things started getting darker and darker, people "on the side of the light" died. he felt helpless and lost, there began the first doubts about his faithfulness.

During a mission was cornered by death eaters and the only solution seemed to change faction and swear loyalty to Voldemort. He became a rat (feeling a little guilty).

Then he began to feel powerful and embraced every ideal of the dark faction, but even if he had second thoughts it would have been too late to come back.

Killing Marlene, his old friend, wasn't easy, but at that point he thought it was the right thing to do, he was so blinded by the power the Dark Lord had promised him that he would do anything.

[I know is very confusing (maybe??), but that's what I think about peter, there's so much more to explain and I think I'll do that soon. I’d like to explore his relationship with the marauders before the war]
