I'm gonna say it; Hiccup did nothing wrong. We're treating him as the biggest problem of THW when literally his worst crime in is somehow losing his freckles and that's not even something he has control over. Oh and that kind of incredibly stupid plan of literally moving an entire people by going "let's just fly straight until we hit something :) even though I, Hiccup Haddock, somehow don't believe the world is round."
The entire rest of the movie is everyone else around him being horrible and out of character.
Berk is a mess in the beginning of the movie, yes. But it was also just a year ago that his father was horribly murdered in front of him because Draco Bloodyfist-Or-Whatever decided to sent his mind controled best friend after him. Everybody expects Hiccup to be put together and solve all problems immediately and remain a Dragon Rider when he should be buying a therapist a mansion and a yacht with all those billed sessions.
Then there is being told more than once that he's putting Astrid second when he literally isn't. And told he should meet her standard.s
There is all that stuff about how he's been a horrible pet owner to Toothless when he had legitimate and real fears about Toothless not making it out in wild and about the Light Fury turning on him and about him not coming back. (Like... he's a disabled dragon, for Gods' sake??? Toothless will literally NOT make it without human intervention)
He's called out for not embracing change when his name was literally synonymous with change before THW and every bit of change he proposes in the movie is met with backlash unless Astrid, their not-chief, says it's okay.
His mother, who abandoned him for 20 and came home with him after the traumatic loss of his father spends most of the movie not being the mother she promised him to be in the second movie and even advocated for the Riders to be less dependent on dragons when she was with dragons for the entirety of those 20 years.
And then there is all the bullying. Making fun of his voice, telling him- a disabled person- to LOSE THE LIMP, telling him he's not worthy of Astrid the warrior goddess (completely forgetting how Hiccup is both parts warrior and diplomat in at least the previous two movies, let alone the movies and the shows) and these three things are all said by Tuffnut! "Forgets he has a sister in THW" Tuffnut!
And let's not forget Snotlout's "who died and made you chief?!" when Snotlout was literally crying at Stoick's funeral. And then proceeds to hit on the dead man's wife and his best friend's mother while also putting said best friend down!
Like... none of the things said to him in the first movie were as bad as some of the things said in THW.
The entire movie is also basically Hiccup being pulled from one direction to the other.
It's "You're a bad chief because you're not changing anything" yet it's also "how dare you make this change!"
It's "you should step up as chief" yet it's also "we will only listen if Astrid says it's good."
It's "you were literally keeping Toothless captive for 6 years :/" yet it's also "Uuuhhh, time to cut the umbilical cord, don't you think? 🙄"
It's "you let Toothless go free, what did you expect?" yet also "uh, you let him go???"
It's "you are literally nothing without Toothless, sorry :/" yet it's also "Toothless only showed you what was already inside."
It's "you should put Astrid first for once" yet it's also "I, Hiccup, will literally listen to every single word you, Astrid, says even if it's hurtful."
It's "I, Astrid, will suggest to you, Hiccup, that we go find Toothless in the hidden world" yet it's also "I, Astrid, will blame you, Hiccup, for deciding to go to the Hidden World, making the Light Fury, who you have no control over, to follow us back home"
It's "hey man, can you help me with this dragon tail? :(" yet it's also "I will literally not listen to you when I'm about to break this branch that I and the dragon tail are on."
I mean, my God! I'd sent the dragons away if I had to listen to that for the past year after I watched my father die a gruesome death.
And that's not even the worst part. The worst part is Toothless abandoning Hiccup for the most shallow reason there is; chasing dragon tail that doesn't even want anything to do with him unless he does something that impresses her when he's the king of the dragons.
So yeah, probably an unpopular opinion, but besides one bad plan, Hiccup did nothing wrong besides listen to what all the people around him were saying, no matter how much they contradict themselves.
Really, what he needs is a hug. A Real one. :(

Trying to track down as many interviews/behind the scenes things for THW that I can so I can easily check or link to things and MAN. I forgot how upsetting some of these quotes are.
Like I sure do love to see Dean call Toothless "corrupted" in like four different interviews. Love to see him constantly misuse terms like "domesticated". Love to read how that for the Light Fury, this supposed wild pure untainted fierce powerful feral call of the wild wild animal, the sound designers had to "suggest she was female" and so leaned on stereotypes. Love to read that Toothless "kinda forgot" about his former life after only ten years. Love to read that Astrid is meant to be Hiccup's "true support and future". Love to read basically anything regarding the Light Fury and see the filmmakers talk about how she's a female and needs to look like a female and move like a female and act like a female and sound like a female. Love to read how she couldn't look too reptilian despite literally being a dragon and that she couldn't have leopard markings because they looked a little too close to scars. Love to read how she "promises a family and the propagation of Toothless' species" when she's not even actually a Night Fury. Love to read how it was intended that Toothless' "animal instincts"/attraction to the Light Fury become more important to him than his friendship with Hiccup. Love to read how they purposefully changed Valka's design to make her "more appealing". Love to read how one of the functions the Light Fury is supposed to serve is to be "a clarion reminder that wild dragons will attack a human when they see them" like that makes any sense at all to anyone who has seen literally any other piece of HTTYD media. Love to read how the other function she's supposed to serve is to show "that when you find love, that's where you belong" like Hiccup's platonic/brotherly love for Toothless meant nothing when on the official website they're referred to as soulmates. Love to read that the reunion scene is meant to be a "last joyride" and "not an indication that they see each other again".
I hate this movie.

I’m absolutely in love with concept light fury even though her final design isn’t too bad (definitely not as bad as her personality).I really wanted to draw that pretty girl because her design, especially tail, looks too good.first idea was to add some scars from Grimel but I decided to left this one as a common light fury and not Toothless’ mate.

I’ve always had super mixed feelings (now evolved into negative feelings) regarding HTTYD The Hidden World ever since it first released, so seeing more people actually talk and speak about the issues of the movie makes me feel better LOL. Like y’all are putting it into words why this movie just felt so off to me. I just wish more of the general population of fans and viewers thought about the movie a little more beyond “visuals pretty.”

I don’t know if this has been said before but the hidden world failed because romance was too prominent in the theme
The books, previous movies, and shows always focused on the bonds and friendships with humans and dragons and the bonds between family romance was never a major plot point
The hidden world felt like romance took up half the plot and that’s why rewrites where they find a baby nightfury instead are so popular because that gets rid of the romance plot point and replaces it with friendship and family again
Hiccup and Astrid/Toothless and the lightfury took up too much of the movie and took away from the funny friendship moments that Hiccup, the dragons, and the gang had together it also took away from the emotional family moments
In the scene when Grimmel took Toothless and Valka told Astrid to comfort him could’ve easily been Valka bonding with Hiccup the way Stoick would’ve
Valka, Stoick, and Hiccup’s relationship was such a big part of the second movie only for Hiccup and Valka’s bond to be thrown away in the third movie
As much as I love hicctrid I feel like a ton of their moments could’ve been replaced with other characters Valka interacted more with Astrid than she did with her own son
And introducing Eret in the second movie and having him admit to know of Grimmel makes him such an interesting character only for him to be pushed to the side for some weird Valka, Snotlout, and Eret love triangle that shouldn’t have existed in the first place

Obligatory salty about HTTYD 3 mood that happens to me every once in a while. But I do honestly find it extremely funny that everything HTTYD that has come out after THW (minus maybe the christmas special) either seems to ignore THW's existence or blatantly go against it, like:
- That other christmas thing where Toothless and his abomination babies are just chilling in Hiccup's house
- The Nine Realms, which has been actively going against THW's ending since the beginning and only getting more and more brazen about it.
- HTTYD Journey which appears to take place before, during or after HTTYD 2
- Universal theme park's upcoming Isle Of Berk section. Which granted, we only have a few concept images of, but no obvious references to HTTYD 3 yet (no sign of the light fury or any HTTYD 3 dragons)
Like hmmm gee.. it's almost as if Dreamworks knows the only way to keep milking the cash cow is to go "Actually we take it back we know that you wanna see this guy and his dragon hang out and not be separated forever." And it's so funny like... my brothers in christ you made the third movie.

“Now that’s a king.” - Astrid Hofferson, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World
I swear this whole movie, and the scene where Hiccup and Astrid go in to the hidden world particularly, was designed to denigrate Hiccup’s leadership unnecessarily.
Uwu Special Boi Toothless goes to the hidden world and immediately becomes alpha there.
Yeah right.
He became an alpha over the dragons of Berk (plus some others) by challenging the bad Bewilderbeast in HTTYD 2 and winning. And, sure, we do see some instances where Toothless has something akin to authority with other dragons in RTTE.
Toothless doesn’t necessarily have authority over other dragon in HTTYD. He’s more like that super dangerous mercenary that the evil king really likes than a challenger for the Red Death.
Who’s to say there wasn’t already an alpha within the hidden world.
As for how Hiccup figures into all this. During RTTE we see Toothless gaining some authority alongside, you guessed it, Hiccup himself. It’s almost like the two alpha thing was contingent on Hiccup and Toothless being a single unit. And the whole plot of HTTYD 2 supports this.

What would happen if Toothless protected Hiccup? HTTYD - HAYLOFT
I am not even sure if I should watch HW or not. If the reviews I have read about it are true, I am going to be very disappointed. Anyway should be watching HTTYD 2 sometime this week so looking forward to that.

The Light Fury Should’ve been aquatic and have the dragons come to a compromise - the movie and books are very different so it wouldn’t change much.
I have read all the book multiple times so I know my sht.
It could’ve been a thing of when the sky meets the sea and that her design has like blue, with bigger fins for swimming and it would explain her smoothness. The Light Fury would still be wild but have more of a connection too.
For Example:
Toothless stays and doesn’t become King of the Hidden World in one day, he meets more Night Furies (Family Found) and discovers the sea version of the Night Fury (Light Furies). Cause the Hidden World is in the sea (You can’t tell there isn’t some magic in that world) it would make sense to have openings hidden all over the world.
This would fix the issue of food, room, and cannibal dragons such as the Deathgripper, Skrill, Scauldron, Death Song ect.
This would set into motion the end of the Riders journey as they settle down, still preaching and showing the world of peace with dragons.
The kids at the end can be shown bonding with their own dragon, it doesn’t have to be Toothless’ kids. This would also fix the issue that the Nightlight would be logically sterile, killing off the NF.
There would be no cursed inbreeding (that screen cap haunts me) and the modern stuff wouldn’t happen.
In that Universe its Vikings, Norsemen and others from around the world.
Another thing to add on,
During the flight scene it isn’t a vanishing thingy, because that would make no sense for a Night Fury but it would for a Light Fury.
Making them more unique.
It would be more of the deleted scene where they play and the Light Fury has a personality that isn’t worse than cardboard. Tbh, the NF is cool enough to not need anymore abilities. I do like the trust fall they do - some birds to that with the life partner and it’s sweet.
Even if most die but--
Overall, if LF share the same intellegence as NF then the LF should’ve seen what Hiccup means to her partner.
And that nothing will break them apart
TLDR; idk read it later
Disclaimer!
I can see why people like the third movie and I respect that they like it, however, it just doesn’t sit right with me and I’d like the show a small portion of my views if I would elect to keep the LF partner.
I can like certain aspects of something I overall dislike, everyone can so don’t be an ass and harass anyone. Your a pretty shitty person if you do (or have double standards with it).
TLDR; Be respectful and I appreciate those who enjoy httyd 3, and those who don’t.
:)

When I think of what's wrong with THW, this one scene with Astrid can basically sum up a lot of stuff. The one in which she tells HICCUP of all people "look at you! Embracing change!" As if the first two movies aren't all about Hiccup changing things and as if Hiccup's changes in the third film aren't met with constant backlash. Like what do you meeeaaaan he's finally embracing change??? He's trying to change several things in just this movie alone! Her statement makes no sense!

The dragons going back to dragon prison the Hidden World at the end of The Nine Realms is the absolute cherry on top of why that show was a waste of time
Because when you hear the premise you think:
“Oh wow! Some random boy discovered Toothless’s hideously inbred descendant thousands of years later! This must finally be the time humans and dragons are meant to co-exist after the Berkians did nothing to help make the world a better place for humans and dragons to co-exist because the dragons left them!”
But no. The dragons piss off back to their hole in the end.
So…I guess there will never be a time where humans and dragons can co-exist? What an uplifting and heartwarming saga!
It really was a waste of time and it once again shows why every single dragon going off to hide in a mushroom infested hole while the Berkians chill in the middle of nowhere on top of a Minecraft chunk error was, perhaps, not the best way to pave the way for peaceful co-existence between humans and dragons.

Talking about official light fury design.
Okay,I needed to try and find some useful things from her glistening,white-blue design with no patterns so hear me out.
Tumblr media
This glitter can be really useful in fact.with her white scales that has no patterns it can easily become a dangerous weapon. So the idea is simple, when lighty is flying in daytime (usually at sunny weather) she can reflect light with her glitter which immediately blind all enemies for a couple seconds and let her either fight or fly away and hide in the clouds using her white-blue colour.
Tumblr media
This is probably how it’ll look on practice if you imagine yourself like some dragon that was trying to fight her.basically it’s like looking at the sun.
that’s what was my ideas on original design they gave her.

she needs to be less smooth!! 🗣️ 🗣️
[ID: Two pictures of light fury. The first image on the right is an edit of the original which is the second image. Both of the pictures have the light fury sit upright on the ground looking to the right. But the edit has darker scales, four more nubs on her cheeks, thicker paws and and her pupils narrowed into slits compared to more round design in the original. End ID]
