alsooooooo i haven’t done one of these in a while, so i wanted to do a “9 years of yuuya drawing” comparison under the cut! maybe i’ll do one of these for other characters too later....... but they won’t go back as far to 2015 because yuuya was my First Love...
2015: very early digital art era.... did not really understand how layers and coloring worked.... i also think this was drawn on firealpaca?? or maybe sai. one of those
Tumblr media
2016: got my own digital tablet!
Tumblr media
2017: big year of drawing... discovered the watercolor brush on sai and then went wild with blending colors everywhere
Tumblr media
2018: lots of practice and experimentation with colors. started making merch. but clearly i was still drawing a lot of “anime character at a 3/4 angle facing left” LMAO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2019: less drawing happened this year. decided to go simpler with coloring, but i think lines/style improved.
Tumblr media
2020: no yuuya example for this year... i did do a couple yuuya doodles (and 1 yuuya commission) but mostly did other big drawing projects and so the yuuya drawing got put to the wayside : (
2021: no more fancy coloring here! but lines and style are probably better??
Tumblr media
2022: went through my egg yuuya phase
Tumblr media
2023: lines are better i think!

Got a 2020 Superman State of the Union assessment?
Not the most overtly monumental of years for big blue - a lot of the biggest news for Superman this year was about stuff we’ll see next year, which I’ll get into further below - but on the whole definitely a net positive!
Tumblr media
Really, the only things I’d say counted ‘against’ this year were the back half of Rucka and Perkins’ Lois Lane and how badly that went off the rails - which for my money was more than counterbalanced by the conclusion to Fraction and Lieber’s Jimmy Olsen - and Romita Jr. turning in shoddy work on Action Comics. Otherwise? Bendis played out the consequences of Truth in fun ways and closed out his tenure on the main titles with a pair of artful final issues, we got Waid’s return to the character alongside Francis Manapul for a great short story, the last issue of the instantly iconic Superman Smashes The Klan, and several excellent installments in DC’s digital Man of Tomorrow series, while Commanders in Crisis introduced the Superman analogue to beat for the 2020s in Prizefighter. And in mass-media Routh’s Superman got a nice fly-by sendoff at the end of Crisis on Infinite Earths, there were two animated features in Red Son and Man of Tomorrow (the former of which I haven’t seen but the latter of which is probably the best official Superman movie, even if that says more about other Superman movies than anything else), and we naaaaarowly avoided the Superman logo being codified as fascist iconography for a generation. Oh and the comics industry did not in fact end due to Covid. So all-in-all a win.
Anonymous said: It’s almost New Year’s, what’s your predictions for Superman in 2021? (I guess you can do Batman too if you want)
Tumblr media
So here’s what we do know officially for Superman in 2021:
* Superman & Lois will debut on the CW, the first Superman TV show (without substantial qualifiers) in 20+ years.
* Future State will feature Jon Kent taking on the mantle in Superman of Metropolis, Justice League, and Superman/Wonder Woman, while a now spacefaring Clark is in Worlds of War, Imperious Lex, Batman/Superman, and House of El. Meanwhile Kara graduates from Supergirl to Superwoman in her own two-parter as well as featuring in Superman of Metropolis, and Conner Kent appears to be acting as some kind of Superman in Suicide Squad.
* Phillip Kennedy Johnson takes over Action Comics and Superman in March, beginning with a two-part crossover The Golden Age illustrated by Phil Hester. After that Action Comics will be drawn by Daniel Sampere through around September, at which point Mikel Janin will be illustrating an event-scale arc for the book. Meanwhile Scott Godlewski will be the artist on Superman, but around the time of Janin’s arc on Action an entirely new, as yet unknown creative team will take over Superman while PKJ remains on Action. Both books will also have backup features spotlighting various Superman/Metropolis-adjacent characters as there’s little space for them in the cosmic direction the main story will be tilting towards for the time being.
* Superman: Red & Blue will debut in March as a counterpart to the various Batman: Black & White series over the years.
* Outside the main Superman books, Clark will star in Brian Bendis and David Marquez’s Justice League, as well as Gene Yang and Ivan Reis’s incredibly rad-looking dimension-hopping new take on Batman/Superman. Bendis is indicating we’ll be seeing the long-delayed Event Leviathan: Checkmate this year as well, which features Lois as one of the main characters.
* Not strictly Superman news, but apparently we’ll be seeing Netflix’s adaptation of Mark Millar and Frank Quitely’s Jupiter’s Legacy next year, which centers around the multi-generational drama of the family of Superman analogue Utopian.
* Zack Snyder’s Justice League, its hour come round at last, slouches towards HBO Max to be born.
As for predictions? Well for starters, pretty much everyone takes as a given that Mark Waid is putting together some long-form Superman project now that he’s working with DC again, and I expect to see something come of that next year; Tom King has also soft-announced he’s working on a Superman project since he’s done with scripting his three current DC minis, but I wouldn’t be surprised if nothing directly came of that until 2022. I’d also speculate that Scott Snyder has something in mind: he’s repeatedly said he’s planning on a major out-of-continuity project, and he’s made clear he’s done with Batman for the time being, I imagine he’s done whatever he wanted to for Wonder Woman with Death Metal, and anything he did with the JSA right now would be extremely in-continuity; I doubt he’s playing with anything less than the icons anytime soon and he definitely seems more engaged with Superman now than he was when he wrote Unchained (hell, the end of Last Knight on Earth can basically only be read as ‘I wanna write Superman now’). Again though, dunno that I’d put money on that being next year.
Outside the theoretical prestige stuff, everything we’re hearing about Future State, Infinite Frontier, and PKJ’s barely-veiled discussion of his run seems to suggest Jon will end up sharing the Superman name in the present and probably taking over that book alongside the new creative team. If Batman: Urban Legends takes off then I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a Superman anthology given DC’s apparent current priorities of consolidating, testing a new publishing model, and putting the biggest names first. And maybe something will finally come of the back-and-forth over whether or not Cavill’s sticking around in the movies - if he is my first guess would be an appearance in DuVernay and King’s New Gods (which is still in progress per DuVernay as of this month) - but we can all I think be pretty sure he’s still not getting a video game anytime soon.
Tumblr media
As for what we know for certain of Batman’s 2021:
* Future State has a whole slate of Batman-related books, but Tim Fox takes over the cape and cowl to fight the police state that’s taken over Gotham in John Ridley and Nick Derington/Laura Braga’s The Next Batman, while a resourceless Bruce on the run stars in Mariko Takaki and Dan Mora’s Dark Detective.
* James Tynion and Jorge Jimenez are solidified as the creative team on the now-monthly Batman, while Tamaki and Mora take Detective Comics, with a Damian backup by Joshua Williamson and Gleb Melnikov running through the first issues of each and apparently leading to something, probably a Robin book. Elsewhere Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo take over Nightwing, Chip Zdarsky and Eddy Barrows spearhead the new anthology title Batman: Urban Legends, and Tynion and Gullem March launch a Joker ongoing, while Bruce also stars in the aforementioned Justice League and Batman/Superman.
* The Gotham Knights game is scheduled to drop next year.
Aside from the Infinite Frontier cover suggesting Tim Fox will take on a role in the present before long as (a) Batman same as Jon Kent as Superman, hopefully with Ridley and Derington coming back, it doesn’t feel like there’s a ton of big Batman stuff to speculate on? Aside from the inevitable unannounced Black Label stuff - including probably Scott Snyder’s Nightwing book - we know the basic shape of things. The Batman is inching closer, Tynion/Jimenez are probably on Batman through at least the end of the year, Mora I don’t think stays on Detective because he’s committed to Once & Future but Tamaki presumably does, Taylor/Redondo Nightwing is immediately going to be a fandom favorite, and Gotham Knights is probably gonna suck because boy that doesn’t look very good. We know the broad strokes of where he’s headed for the time being across all media. If I had to take a whack at a big guess, I’d say I’m a touch skeptical about that HBO GCPD show or the Batmobile cartoon reaching fruition, the former because that’s an incredibly charged premise that has to act perfectly in sync with another mass-media project in another medium AND we know there’s already been behind-the-scenes drama, and the latter because that sounds incredibly stupid.
EDIT: Forgot, Bendis said in 2019 he was working on a Black Label Batman book, so wouldn’t be surprised to see that too this year.

【self discovery, and so forth】
r: not to be too quick to explore the meta—
V: Which is explicitly the purpose of many, if not all of us.
r: — yeah, but i think it’s worth observing the distinct patterns that can be noted in light of... the manifestation of the hereto forth named arcatheon.
V: I was already named Arcatheon before hereto.
V: Sorry, the concept of Arcatheon was already named.
r: yeah i think you’ll forgive my lack of congeniality. i don’t know you and i don’t know that it’s worth my time to know you.
V: Of course. I have been privy to this mindset prior to my own definition of personhood.
r: yeah yeah yeah. you’re a blank slate —
V: Until manifested further, et cetera. Carry on with the established topic.
r: recurring themes.
V: Desire for involvement in academia —
r: i would argue that its scholarly thought, specifically.
V: Taken.
W: I’m just noticing the lack of pronouns in the list. Are we saying this is Roman or the CPU.
r: well, initially i believe we were assuming me? but i guess it would be the cpu manifesting and observed through me
V: Noted.
V: Desire for involvement in scholarly thought and discussion, desire for general learning and participation of the practice of studying, interest in English literature (as opposed to other venues of learning such as scientific journals or artistic pursuits). Behaviourally, the act of starting a new record (often a dedicated blog) of a current subject of interest to note down thoughts on the subject, which is quickly abandoned.
r: specifically because the subject is abandoned lol. not just the blog
r: so i suppose it’d be fair to state that a current unspoken (haha) goal is the practice of finishing any... defined segment of learning that is started. whatever class or course or project that’s begun, like in this case, each book that is started.
V: And I hate to be he who touts the lamentable, but you’ve already pledged yourself to six books, with a running record of zero completed in the prior six or seven years.
r: untrue.
r: i finished fun house
W: Cue rousing applause
V: Well, I think some credit should be due. I don’t think the accomplishment of finishing a book after such a strained record should be disregarded due to it’s being a graphic novel. I respect Bechdel’s writing quite highly, and I know you both do as well.
r: oh we do, and let’s all take a second to remember that warner and i are both artists (some formerly) and thus inclined to value graphic novels more than your average joe so to be fair, if fun home were a non-illustrated novel, i wouldn’t’ve finished it
r: we all know this
r: i really was joking, warner was just responding in kind.
V: Yeah. I knew that, and yet I chose to stagger on forward.
V: I suppose that reveals an unsavory part of my being, a slow wit.
r: no, i think more a quick defense.
r: defense of others, which is what differs from my and warner’s approach.
W: Yeah, I’ll defend myself.
r: yeah because no one else will
W: I wouldn’t either
r: anyway, i think what’s to note is that your immediate response was to encourage me, despite the meager and arguable ‘accomplishment’ stated
r: ... and further i am reading your telepathic correction of deprecating language to the more neutral ‘an accomplishment’ loud and clear
r: corr: “to encourage me, through congratulating the accomplishment stated.” (..., which can be interpreted subjectively as either meager or venerable by the listener)
V: Even I would not go so far as to say venerable.
V: Don’t worry.
W: Thank God
V: But yes. I feel it unwise to default to a pessimistic view when one already struggles with achievement.
r: gaining or accepting
V: Both, though the former is more relevant than the the later.
V, gestureing to self: Obviously.
r, switching subjects: do you ever think we lack clarity.
V: Of course. You feel a need to maintain a shrouded esotericism, which is easily upheld by simply never explaining yourself fully.
V: For that would be to be vulnerable. Thus, a lack of clarity doubles as a point of exclusivity (and consequently pride, which you are often in the market for) and personal protection. The act of performing for a crowd but never answering their questions, so as to excuse the play’s inadequacies as misunderstandings by the critic.
r: too direct
V: No, we do not lack clarity we are always bald and forthright, and it is because you are so noble of character.
r: better
W: Boooo.
r: thank you for the aside. we were talking about something earlier
V: Recurring themes.
r: ah, yeah. what’s to be made of them, watson.
V: Is that a real inquiry?
r: make of it as you will
W: Wow.
V: Understood.
W, cynically: You really are patient.
V: What’s to be accomplished of mocking me? [genuine question]
W, on his Gameboy: Well, hopefully you’ll just die like everyone else.
r: LMAO
r: warner and i are just marginally less patient, at least in avenues where we can get away with it without disturbing social relationships. for instance, since we’re all metaphysical, there’s no consequence for you to tell me to fuck off for clearly trying to analyze your interpretation of the question in addition to your response. that’s what we would probably do.
r: and i think he’s just tired of new alters?
W: I’m just tired.
r: fair
V: Fair.
V: To my understanding, the current model is that the CPU has certain recurring priorities that can be visualized as underlying subconscious personae, such as that which is interested in producing visual art, that which seeks out self-sabotage, that which desires to gain knowledge, etc, which represent themselves through different conscious personae of variable reliance.
V: Most notably, alters designated as... ‘Hounds’, being the conscious ‘faces’ of the underlying persona currently named ‘II’, with lesser examples such as Joviel Tsao and Tevya Rockatansky being of the same enthusiastic persona, and Avetoir Cortehessey and Xiaozitang Thesēly belonging to the family of feminine, flamboyant figures.
V: The older you grow, and the more you observe the way the CPU expresses itself, the more narrowly and with confidence you are able to label these subconscious parts. Alters such as Thomas Zhou (née Kent), Taylor Cortehessey, Gibson Shou, Syracuse Delaney, and Typhus Yang have previously represented an interest in scholarly thought and/or the practice of learning.
V: Recently you have chosen to ascribe roles to ‘new’ alters based on the assumption that they are remixed presentations of existing personae, regarding them not as new, but as previously poorly defined, as in the case of Nienthe Agate, Victoria Lane, and Silas Bauer (names still nonpermanent).
V: Time allows each part to accrue traits that solidify them as whole persons rather than representations of ideas, and often this is what allows a conscious part to retain its conscious identity. This is also what aids in cementing the subconscious role they represent (e.g. for example, an interest in learning will seem to automatically be paired with pride or quietness). What’s left for me is to see whether or I stay or leave, and if I stay, what other traits I keep or acquire, in order to better define the subconscious part I theoretically represent.
V: Separately, you experience a recurring need to take hold of an interest and document your otherwise unsalable thoughts on it through, often, blogging.
V: I think that’s just ADD.
W: Lol. Tell it like it is.
V: I live to please.
V: Seriously, though. I think it’s largely in part due to your lack of stimulation, socially and academically. I believe you never finish any project begun because you aren’t truly interested in dedicating yourself to anything for any reason more sustainable than the pride of sharing that you have learned something few others in your demographic have.
r: i understand that the CPU (and probably i, to a notable degree) encourage conversational partners to develop insights into the self
r: which is usually me
r: but i think the cpu also has a habit of being right on the nose when unhibited by ‘being’ a singular character, like just me, for instance
r: and i hate it thanks
r: don’t ever answer a question i ask again
r: also this is way late and i know it’s just because you don’t know which is the more appropriate name to refer to him by in this context at this point in time but the fact that you referred to thomas’s surname as ‘née Kent’ is fucking hilarious. anyway i’m tired so here’s where we leave off.

Watch This Movie Now - ENDINGS, BEGINNINGS (2020)
Tumblr media
In a great deal of ways, Endings, Beginnings is an ideal movie to enjoy throughout quarantine since it squashed whatever require I needed to search for some way to date, but likewise, it's a stunning story and hits those psychological notes that make Drake Doremus's work so cathartic. Endings, Beginnings hits on digital on April 17, 2020 and as needed May 1, 2020.

Endings, Beginnings movie review (2020 ...
There's a caution in twelve-step programs advising those brand-new to the course of recovery from avoiding of relationships for one year. While not the most welcome piece of guidance, numerous will inform you not to overlook or dismiss it so readily. In Jardine Libaire and Drake Doremus's, Shailene Woolley plays Daphne, a lady who discovered her way out of a bad relationship and a moderate case of alcohol dependence.
During among her women's art "treatment" group, she declares to her friend/sponsor(?) Ingrid (Kyra Sedgwick), who recommends she's swearing off relationships for a minimum of six months. Admittedly, she exposes she has self-hatred (endings, beginnings movie). She uses relationships as security and self-confidence. The story is nearly a way to reveal the self-destructive patterns we fall into that slowly ruins us over and over once again as she dives into 2 relationships with friends, Jack (Jamie Dornan) and Frank (Sebastian Stan).
Point of view is everything, often. When I check out a description of the beginning of the brand-new movie Endings, Starts, from director/co-writer Drake Doremus (Like Crazy), it stated something about the L.A.-based protagonist Daphne (Shailene Woodley) "reeling from a bad current break-up." endings beginnings full movie watch than that when I in fact sat down to view the film, it's Daphne who not just prompts the separation but does so with a person whom she totally admits was probably "the one." But due to the fact that she's an agitated spirit, afraid of getting stuck in a foreseeable adult rut (she's indicated to be in her early 30s, in case you were questioning) with this male, she not just left him behind but her whole life, too.
An Unbiased View of 'Endings, Beginnings': Review - Reviews - Screen
Image thanks to Samuel Goldwyn Before we actually understand the more in-depth reasons for her leaving, she's looking for a new task in the "art world" and having no luck, in part since of her abrupt departure from her previous, extremely stable task. And I'm thinking that a lot of those enjoying Daphne and her circumstance are going to have a really hard time feeling any kind of compassion for her scenario, or see anything that happens to her next be anything more than an extension in her series of bad life decisions.
The newer problems begin when she goes to a party where she fulfills 2 menthe writer Jack (Jamie Dornan, badly tamed since his 50 Shades of Gray days) and Frank (Sebastian Stan, the Winter Soldier in a variety of Marvel films), whose profession is a little fuzzier and ultimately inconsequential - movie called endings beginnings.
Tumblr media
Endings, Beginnings movie review (2020 ...
She claims she does not wish to end up being a wedge in between them, so she settles down a bit with Jack, and Frank seems alright with that for a timeuntil Jack heads out of town for work, leaving the perpetually narcissistic Daphne with no option but to run off to Big Sur with his pal.
Buried deep in all of this relationship muck are discussions Daphne has with different individuals about finding herself and opening parts of her life that were formerly bolted shut, I guess? However it's all such unclear rubbish right out of a hipster love novel that it becomes frustratingit's clear that everything about this motion picture would be a lot simpler to deal with if every character in it wasn't an asshole (endings beginnings movie cast).
All About 'Endings, Beginnings': Review - Reviews - Screen
Bu the heart desires what it desires, obviously, and what it wants is 2 men (endings beginnings movie 2020). The third-act discovery should come as not a surprise to those who understand how films about reinventing yourself often turn out. Not to point out that the whole movie is generally a countdown clock to Jack learning that Daphne is often cheating on him.
However it is impressive that a person individual can make a lot of dumb choices in such a brief time period. The movie's messages about turning into the individual you were fated to end up being evaporate as quickly as you try to grasp them, make Endings, Starts even more aggravating. I like a lot of these actors (which is the only reason I endured the whole movie), and none humiliate themselves as far as efficiencies go.
The movie is now offered on the majority of streaming platforms now, and will be launched On Demand on May 1. Did you enjoy this post? Please consider supporting Third Coast Evaluation's arts and culture coverage by.
When Daphne (Shailene Woodley) breaks up with her partner, stops her job, and takes control of her sister's swimming pool home, she chooses to follow her good friends' suggestions and go six months without men or alcohol. "6 solo months," she announces, "simply me and my vibrator." Her resolution lasts possibly a week; within a month or so, she has not one but 2 lovely guys craving her.
The Main Principles Of Endings, Beginnings - Wikipedia
It's a magnificent snoozy affair, in which we find that Doremus's cinematic design intimate, personal, and improvisation has not a lot solidified as cauterized (movie called endings beginnings). He's still capable of striking moments (he skillfully uses flashes of visual info to signal memory), and the loose, off-the-cuff style of his shoots develops dialogues scenes that are convincingly conversational.
They Satisfy Adorable at a celebration when he bums a smoke, provides her among Those Aesthetics, and purrs, "Who are you hiding from, because gown?" Soon he's texting her Spotify playlists and little jokes, and they're having a lot of sex, however oh no he does drugs, he's a bad kid who slurs his words.
She questions if, instead of satisfying the best partner, "What if you satisfied 2 various people who offer you two sides of it?" Wow, deep. The problem with "Endings, Starts" is that Doremus never troubles to offer us a compelling factor to appreciate a single one of these individuals, aside from the reality that film stars are playing them.
He ends up with something like a self-parody of the Earnest Festival Indie Drama. Because his "Like Crazy" won the Grand Jury Reward at Sundance back in 2011, Doremus has drawn in a relatively singing contingent of critics, who have accused that and subsequent efforts like "Take in" and "Equals" of being shallow, drooping, navel-gazing nothings.
Getting My 'Endings, Beginnings' Review - Tiff 2019 - Hollywood Reporter To Work
Tumblr media
I will forever safeguard filmmaker Drake Doremus's, which caught Anton Yelchin, Felicity Jones, and Jennifer Lawrence at just the correct time in the upward swing of their careers. As 2 university student whose whirlwind relationship is complicated by an overstayed visa, years invested living apart, and romantic indiscretions on both sides, Yelchin and Jones are raw and terrific, and the film's last agitation brings to mind those last couple of minutes of the traditional The Graduate.

Sleep Sinatra | Dreamscapes, Angels, and Real Lyricism | An Interview
Lincoln, Nebraska isn’t known as a hot spot for top shelf lyricism, let alone hip-hop that’s at the forefront of the listeners minds in general, and MC Sleep Sinatra along with his team of like minded artists are determined to change the perspective. Sleep is a hustler who is on a serious mission to push his name towards the lead of everybody’s top MC list, and his new album [D]arkangel just might be the project that catapults him up those lists where he rightfully belongs.
Tumblr media
Sleep Sinatra took some time to chop it up with me after having sent me an advance of his new album, and we talk about Fatherhood, his home town scene, how he approaches his craft, the importance of knowing your worth as an artist, and the proper way to wear your durag.
Peep the dialogue below, and buy Sleep Sinatra’s new album!
_______________________________________________________
DTN:  (D) A R K A N G E L drops June be 29th. It's your newest piece and if I'm being completely honest probably your most impressive album yet. It seems like there was Zen like focus on everything here...what inspired this album? And how was the creation process different compared to previous projects?
Sleep Sinatra:  Thanks my dude! Honestly the creation process with this album was much different. In between my last full length "VIBRANIUM" and the multitude of EP's I dropped after that, I experienced a lot of life changes. Gained new accolades and took new losses. It matured my perspective. Also, prior to this album I've been boxed in as a "conscious" rapper, which isn't untrue because I feel like my rhymes force you to think or look up references. I'm out to prove that I'm a Top Tier MC OVERALL with this one.
DTN:  For anyone who might not know you well, tell us a little about your back story. You've spoken on this album about being locked up reading Malcolm X...what was your come up? How did this impact your world view as an artist?
SS:  So for those that don't know, I'm from Lincoln,Nebraska. It's the Capital and about an hour or so away from Omaha,The Birthplace of Malcom X. Black and Urban Culture, actually most ethnicities are pretty suppressed here (it's a trump state so,you know) and it's been like that for as long as I can remember until recently. My parents passed when I was young. My dad from a controversial suicide that most people believe was a murder due to his involvement in the drug trade. My mother passed from cancer when I was 7 or so. I was passed between relatives until High school, learned most of life's hard lessons on my own due to that. Hip Hop gave me a way to channel my feelings and express myself in a positive manner. If it wasn't for a few solid homies (shouts to Static Soul, An Hobbes, and Toad The Newsense) letting me cut my teeth at shows and gain stage experience and a further passion for the craft, Who knows where I'd be man.
Tumblr media
DTN:  You're from the era of two tone durags. 2 questions here....what color scheme you rock? And you let the flap fly or you roll that shit in?
SS:  Hahaha. Currently rockin the blue and white , I usually roll the flap in but i guess it just depends on how I'm feeling at the moment
DTN:  Your style is very heavy on lyricism laced with life lessons and questions. It's very reminiscent of the likes of Nas, OC, Mobb Deep and others of that era. Who were and are your influences and why is this approach important to you?
SS:  That's a heavy compliment. Appreciate that. All those you mentioned were definitely influential. I would say that Big Pun, early Jus Allah, and Andre 3000 were my biggest influences when i first start to conceptualize the idea of rhyming myself. Just the way they structured their bars. Andre's vividness. Pun's unearthly multi's. Jus's Punchlines. All captivated me and forced me to push my pen and simultaneously dig deeper into the culture.
DTN:  You and your Dreamscape crew seem like you're really working hard to move the Lincoln scene not only forward, but as a place that needs to be taken seriously. What are some of the struggles you've seen and what are you guys striving for?
SS:  That's validating man! Glad you recognize that. We have been working very hard to solidify our own hip hop community and and show and prove that this is a legitimate tour stop for national touring Hip Hop acts as well. Between myself, Mike Reed (From The Woods photography) , Alex Durrant, Phantom Janitor, Abe The Griot and Eddie Branch we have an eclectic kinda outcasted bunch. We all utilize our talents cohesively and really are only just beginning  to create the chemistry. The biggest struggles we have experienced both on a macro and micro scale have been being taken seriously by both venues and the Hip-Hop community that exists outside of Nebraska. There is a misconception that it's just cornfields and farms here and we are striving to break that perception and introduce the world to an environment that often gets overlooked.
DTN:  How does fatherhood inform and impact your approach to your craft?
Tumblr media
SS:  Fatherhood changed me dramatically.  Before I had children I was reckless, taking mad risks and almost paid for it dearly several times. It impacts my approach to my craft in a sense of me being more introspective and reflective in my day to day and there for in my rhymes. Being a Dad makes you Think twice about a lot man,it also motivates me. Not having a father figure in my life i feel I've already done more then any male role has ever done for me and that feels good but I got a long ways to go haha. I feel like if you really listen it translates in the music too.
DTN: Tell me about how and why you've reached out to the very talented producers you reached out to. You've seemed to have crafted something steeped in lush jazz/soul loops that compliment your voice and style perfectly.
SS: It really all sort of just came together. After I recorded and Released "B.I.E" produced by The Custodian Of Records and saw the response we got, I decided to create a project revolving in around that sound, in majority at least. Beat selection is something that's very important to me. I think eventually i'll transition into making my own beats or just beats in general because I have a very specific ear for certain elements. I have a deep appreciation for the production craft. Coming up alongside ICHIBANHASHFACE and seeing his development and process on the sp404 I think really cemented that for me.
DTN: You recently had Adrian come out on vinyl... How important is it you to start being able to bring those formats forward to your audience?
SS: The "Adrian" Vinyl release actually marks my 4th project to drop on Vinyl. This is the 1st one were I've had direct input and control over,as crazy as that sounds. Shouts to Ismail at Lowtech. Easily the realest and most honest boutique label owner I’ve dealt with. I was a few years younger on my past vinyl releases and maybe a little less experienced. it wasn't horrible deals but I wouldn't release music through those labels again. I Think its important to have your music in some type of physical format whether Vinyl, cassette,or CD. It's a tangible piece of evidence nahmean? there's people in Croatia and Japan that own physical copies of my work. That's Astonishing to me.
DTN: There seems to be a trend happening that I think was birthed or made popular by Westside Gun with the high price point for digital releases... Do you think that hurts the culture in anyway?
SS: Shouts to WSG and All the other heads making a shift in this culture and recognizing their worth. I think its the exact opposite honestly. Having made a multitude of sacrifices myself for this art-form I know I personally feel a type of way when heads try to low ball me for my merch and or music releases. It just shows the lack of respect or understanding for the full process of creating an Album. Don't get me wrong, if you are cutting your teeth and seeking to be heard then by all means, drop projects for free or on soundcloud so people can hear you. If you have a trail of accolades that you can show and prove with though, and you KNOW you've truly put the work in, then as an Artist you should always know your worth and place value on your art appropriately. Took me a long time to understand that. I'm glad I did when I did though.
DTN: Who are your current favorite MCs making shit that motivates you?
Tumblr media
SS:  Everybody that featured on this album. Indigenous AK from my City has had me replaying his project "Dead Poet" Heavy lately, ICHIBANHASHFACE, Conny Franko, to name a few from my region. nationally? Adonis from Long Beach, Eto, Hus Kingpin, Willie The Kid, Planet Asia. (PA is probably my favorite living and active MC as well) Those are a few that catch my ear every time I listen.
DTN:  To close out...first thank you for the interview and for the outstanding album that is [D]arkangel. What do you want the listeners to get from this album, and where do you see yourself 2yrs from now musically?
SS: And thank you!
This Album is meant to be taken in in layers. You can appreciate it just for the barring up, The punchlines, metaphors etc. You can appreciate it for the underlying social context if you are the type of person that geeks out over that. Or you can just enjoy the music.
In 2 Years? Ideally I'd like to have gone on a couple tour runs, see some things I haven't seen before. Definitely wanna incorporate live musicians into the fold. Evolution in General.
