OK, how about the new beginning to the fic I'm supposedly editing?

Gertie’s truly is a shithole. Abrasively bright bulbs dot its ceiling, providing an ambience nobody is looking for of a bar while glaring nude upon his pummelled pupils. Near half those fixtures are busted but the fact offers only barest relief: that pervasive glare off high gotta be almost worse on the corneas at his shadowier spot than from any island of intense luminosity he bypassed when selecting this outlying spot along the bar. Considerable cobwebs, plus every stain across the close-by clutch of once-cream tabletops, are distressingly easy to catch sight of in this position anyhow.

Vision now sweeping rapid, Rio’s reminded how none of the interior doors entirely fit their frame; journeying for the bathroom’ll involve huffing and froing along that cluttered back hall come fall… This forms a further frustration for forward-fucking-looking, with the year steadily burning onward.

In distracted irritation he huffs deep, subsequently imbibing the upholstery’s reek. As perpetual, it’s of stale tobacco mixed with some pickling fishiness despite the fact he’s never clocked a soul smoking nor eating inside.

Yeah, Gertie’s gotta be at least two or three rungs below your classic dive. A flop, that might be. In more ways than the one though it remains convenient — no trait worth sniffing scornful over — being only a block and a half up from his own bar makes it a handy location to slide upon when not in a particularly, hm, conspicuous mode.

— “love! how was it?” he sounded hopeful, waiting expectantly for the news you will tell him. jungwon was so ready to congratulate you for good news and to comfort you for the opposite.

— you lift your eyes and his smiles slowly faded once he saw them filled with tears. he panicked and walked closer to cup your face, but you moved away from him. he looked confused and hurt at the same time.

— “what are you really doing here, y/n?” he finally asked. you gulped and your hold to the paper bag tightens as you looked at him. “i m-missed you.”

— you know its not right anymore. you two had been here before, but you always find yourself with the same ending. a lot of people always says that you two are meant for each other, but something’s always not right. you knew that and jake too. you just don’t understand why even being aware of it, you always find yourself running your way back over to his arms.

— “see you tomorrow, baby.” jake said with a soft smile. you nodded and waved before going inside your apartment. a sigh made it out from your lips after you sat down at your couch. you don’t understand why despite being treated right by jake, you still long for sunghoon. and you honestly feel bad.

— it was raining hard so sunghoon’s brows were hardly furrowed while he head over his door after hearing a doorbell. he opens it and quickly, the annoyed expression over his face was replaced with a surprised one. “y/n?” he uttered seeing you standing in front of his unit, all drenched.

— holding this red cup, wearing an awkward smile over your face, you sat down at one of the sofas inside this huge frat house. yes, your friend succeeded on taking you and now, you have no idea where she went.

— you thought you’ll have the worst night again, until you set eyes to the prettiest eyes you’ve ever seen. even in the flickering party lights, you managed to see how shiney they were. the next thing you knew, he was walking towards you. “new face. glad to see the crowd finally getting interesting.” he said using this soft voice, opposite from his dangerous smirk.

— you chuckle, blushing. “i know right. i totally stood out since i’m alone.” you said getting along with him. he chuckles and soon offered his hand, “sunoo. my name is kim sunoo.” and the first time, you found yourself enchanted.

— “that’s enough.” he said in a cold tone. he stood straight, towering over you. it didn’t intimidate you, but your heart aches by the thought that he’s still cold towards you. “we’re going home.” he said, directly to your friends before he held your hand and starts pulling you.

— a tear left your eyes, but you let him pull you. “you don’t love me.” you uttered. he sighed. “i do.” he shortly replied. tears started to come out your eyes even more, “then why am i the only one this crazy for you?” you said tone sounding so upset towards him. ni-ki stopped from his track and cupped your face. “i am too. i just express it differently.”

Like I know art/writing is for me, and I create what I want, but when posting online having some sort or acknowledgement is always nice! I'm not sure how accurate those "this is how many people have viewed this" statistics are, but it always makes me so sad when I only get like 1 or 2 likes and no comments with a view count that is constantly rising. I was so hyped to make a part 1 and part 2 post of something, but after getting little to no notes (while getting so many views) put me off a bit. While I still plan on doing that part 2 (because it's for me) my energy to start it isn't as high anymore and I hate that for me! Esp when some of my other posts DO get likes and such. I always like and comment if I can because I know how it feels not to get anything

I must say that I see this A LOT on Youtube, too! I recently sat down and watched Boisvert surrealistic art animation series on Youtube. Boisvert newest story was updated a month ago. It has

So, from 88 000 people, if we count views as coming from different viewers, only 623 left him a comment. That's 0.70%(!!) of viewers leaving a comment. Less than a percentage! Likes were left behind by 9,5% of viewers.

Boisvert most watched episode has 5,1 million views and 11 005 comments. That's 0.21% - even less comments! And it's the most popular episode.

So it's not just waah waah writers are crying but it's all creators facing this same lack of engagement. It's not a good direction if you ask me, both as a person who creates and a person who views and engages with others' creations. It makes my heart ache when I see how much effort someone has put to something and then the feedback is like 1-10%.

(Though this is also a problem to corporations, for example, for asking for feedback in a survey. If they get 20% of people to reply, it's really good. Same with newsletters and who open them, and even less amount of people order stuff or joins in. But this is really sad in indie creators and hobbyists cases....)

- chapter 5, I figured that I could note my fav moments of this book as well XD

- starting on not the best note, I fucking hate Yang Guang, I hate him so much, I want to rip his guts out,

- chapter 8, the fight was so epic!! I love how MC just kinda forgor about the whole dying thing and went with the flow

- and that she killed that motherfucker! I didn't have to tolerate him for too long >:D

- it's honestly quite funny that Qin Zheng was killed by pox (I hope I'm getting the name of the illness right lol, I'm reading this in Polish translation and have 0 knowledge about any medical terminology in English)

- just a note but it's harder for me to keep up with those notes for Iron Widow than for Qian Qiu. I think it's because 1. its pace is faster 2. its chapters are shorter. so anyway

- chapter 10, Wu Zetian just needs to scream 24/7 and I respect it so much

- chapter 12, idk, Li Shimin is kinda cute

- I also like strategist Zhuge but that may be just because he has a fan

- chapter 13, those qi power statistic are so untrustworthy lol. I wouldn't be so happy to have so much higher qi stats than the average if the margin of error is like 17k

- chapter 14, damn, I miss Yizhi...

- chapter 19, oh my god, Yizhi is back!! T^T

You're literally the best writer on tumblr, so I'm here to ask for some advice 🥹

So you know how stories have a timeline and some may cover like two years for example but be only around 2k words. HOW TO DO THATT??!? 😭 I always get stuck in time when I write something. If there is monday then there has to be tuesday and I just can't do a smooth slide to let's say the next week of the story. I really can't figure out how to do smooth time skips. So perhaps you have some tips? 😋💖

firstly, u flatter me hello. best writer on tumblr is complete craziness!!! thank u so much for saying that though, you're very kind :') and i'm honored that you're entrusting this question to me!

secondly, this is all sooooo valid. navigating time is one of my biggest writing challenges among MANY so i'm not really sure i have the solution myself, but i can try to walk you through my process if you think that would help. i'm sorry in advance if it comes across as convoluted as i think it does 😭

instead of chronological, day-to-day accounts, i like to think of my fics as collections of important moments. "important" meaning significant for characterization, relationship progression, worldbuilding, etc. these moments don't usually happen back-to-back, because all change takes time.

if i can reference my own "ace," which i took special care to map out the timing for, about a week passes between every scene for most of the fic. i made it this way because i wanted there to be a lot of implicit development during those weeks; the couple needed to make their transition from acquaintances to lovers in a way that felt natural. but of course the development couldn't all be implicit, so the fic ends up being a collection of important moments that gives the reader just enough information to tag along on their journey. which is why u get scenes like mc taping hyun's hand in the training room, mc running out of the arcade heartbroken, and mc and hyun having a heart-to-heart on the gym floor

you can think of it as planting the seeds in one scene, letting them sprout and blossom "off camera" (aka during the timeskip), and then doing a garden reveal in the following scene. the two scenes are still very much interconnected—they still depict the same people in the same universe in the same storyline—but something about them has changed, and with it the plot has progressed

depending on what kind of story you're writing, consecutive days makes total sense, btw. in "crying lightning," i explicitly point out the timeskips with headers containing new locations and times preceding every scene because it the couple is a stylist/idol pair that travels together often over one year. in "everything has changed," which is probably closest to ur example of 2 years spanning 2k words, two years pass between every scene to place byeol growing up in parallel with felix and mc falling in love. but maybe you're writing, say, a camp counselor au or a zombie apocalypse au, and the characters only have limited time together; the way you'd write about a five-day period would look super different from a six-year period, u get me?

i am SO sorry about how long this got holy fuck i am truly terrible at putting anything about my writing process into words 😭 but TL;DR: 1) think of ur fics as compilations of important moments, 2) ~plant the seeds of change~ in one scene and reveal the end results in the next, and 3) think ab what timeframe/time-related format would work best for ur fic and go from there! your english is perfect btw <3 don't hesitate to lmk if u have any other follow-up comments or questions!
