OKOKOK EP TWO AND THREE CLEARED. Keisuke is unbeatable I Am Positive I kept fucking pausing to GIF this and that and I swear I've never had this many GIFs on the hard drive 😭😭I need to hunt him for sport [AFFECTIONATE] Pleeeease drop the Cutest Tsutsumi Characters list... I must know...
DON'T REMIND ME OF TSUTSUMI'S POSSIBLE RETIREMENT I'LL MISS HIM SO BAD 😭😭😭😭😭that aside :] he's a nice man I respect him :] To Say The Least... OH BUT he did some dialect work in Kagerou Touge [only as the transgender chicken he plays not his actual character], Bali Big Brother, Tonbi, First Penguin, and uhhhh Jo's Singular Line LMAO [not all Kansai exactly IIRC but more Kansai-adjacent than Kanto]. Kagerou and First Penguin are my faves though methinks
DEFINITELY CHECKING OUT THE MOVIE WHEN I GET THE CHANCE... very intrigued about how it does things differently and of course the Snap Seal Of Approval means a great deal to me...
Kase is SUCH a bitch in the anime and manga perhaps especially Because he did have potential as a voice of reason but he's just being a hypocrite and abusing his knowledge of the situation; he's able to justify it only because he's Not Forty-Five Which Would Be Creepy But Twenty-One Is Fine Dude Trust Me which... is pretty real NGL guys like that do exist... in the same vein, on one hand I do want him to face some sort of consequence, but on the other hand I guess it's also pretty real for him to be able to get away with it. I Guess.
If nothing else I do really appreciate that episode for the contrasts between how Kase and Kondo act on [basically] the same "date," and how Akira reacts. Like OBVIOUS what the message of the ep is given Akira's thing with the pamphlets but let me cook... 'Cause Kase is conventionally attractive, he's not [as far] out of her age range [although he's still DECIDEDLY out of it], and a lot of girls who don't know any better would be thrilled to be pursued by a "cool mature guy" like him, but Akira cannot stand any of it. But with Kondo, the complete opposite, who is totally unattainable, she feels safe and comfortable.
Even so, she re-enacts Kase's behaviors on her "date" with Kondo, because that's what she knows and kids mimic the adults in their lives whether they know it or not, and it's largely by her own self-restraint that she doesn't go in for that kiss at the end and things don't end as badly as they could... MANY thoughts... head full...
BUT YEAH. NO. YEAH. The last couple eps go SO hard and for WHATTTTT 😭😭😭😭😭Haruka and Akira got me so fucked up... Haruka winning that black cat for her coinciding with Akira starting to back off from Kondo and rekindle things with Haruka instead... the rumor WAS real... uuuuugggggghhhhhhhhhhh
And CHIHIRO MY FRIEND CHIHIRO good god spending the whole fucking show thinking Kondo was just reminded of his wife or some girl-who-got-away by Akira... and then he picks up the book and It's No Help because Chihiro is a gender neutral name... AND THEN TURNS OUT IT'S HIS BOY BEST FRIEND REPRESENTING HIS YOUTH AND HIS PASSIONS AND IT'S ALL IN PARALLEL TO HARUKA AND AKIRA UUUUUGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
OK that is enough for now I promise I will actually send in something RGG-related at <3 Some Point <3 SORRY to anyone having to scroll past these last couple of asks lmao
THATS WHAT IM SAYING literally my number one selling point for this show at this point is Keisuke Is The Cutest Old Man In Media Ever Please Witness Him. on the subject of Cute Men though the Cute Tsutsumi Chara list is relatively small since most of his roles evidently has him p serious or. Heinous. so like. top five's like:
1.) Keisuke (Tsuma, Shogakusei ni Naru) 2.) Saenai (Super Salaryman) 3.) Nobata (Not Quite Dead Yet) 4.) Ikegami (Why Don't You Play in Hell) 5.) Tsugaru (Hero SP)
a very hard list for me to make considering i think he has plenty of cute roles (if not just cute moments) in one way or another but..... thems the ones that had me going (´◡`ʃ♡ƪ) the most..
BUT WHAT DO YOU MEAAAN NOT TO REMIND YOU YOU TOLD ME ABOUT IT FIRST (;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`)(;´༎ຶД༎ຶ`) an important thing to remember anyhow.. maybe in the future he can direct movies that feature other cute middle-aged men (❁´◡`❁) greatly doubt any others will ever compete with The Paragon Of Middle-Aged Dudes but they can try...
you had me at Trnsgender Chicken huh. OH BUT YEAH i figured hiroshi was kansai-esque with his mannerisms/speech. bali big brother was one of the movies on my To-Watch list so i know what to look into this week now (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)
OH BUT I THOUGHT YOU SAW THE MOVIE i watched it ahead of time because of that ☠️☠️ BUT i look forward to you checkin it out !! again its p different tonally in some parts, esp with the vibe to haruka and tachibana's relationship (tho of course the underlying issue of their rocky friendship still exists, its just not as evident as it was in the anime).
AH BUT YEAH i appreciate kase for what he does as a narrative device and as a character in THAT regard i really like him: serving as a cautionary reality for people like tachibana who could be taken advantage of if around the wrong people while he simultaneously acts as though he knows what's best for her (and again, he has a point in her and kondo's age difference being egregious, but he's not exactly sailing on smooth waters either). with that in mind i appreciate that aspect of him didn't overstay it's welcome (for multiple reasons of course LMAO)
NOOO BUT HARUKA AND TACHIBANA'S RELATIONSHIP MENDING BY THE END THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WAS THINKING TOO especially when they showed off haruka had her lil cat bro hanging on her bag.. and it was that hot-pink color to balance out the black one tachibana had (very kuromi/melody core if you ask me).... it really was super sweet that kondo and haruka got to mend their past relationships by the end of the anime like AAA it was SOOO good the build up and execution and eveything.. and i LOVE how the anime ends with the implication kondo and tachibana will start to really work on their aspirations- i always like those endings more than the ones where we see them already succeeding (❁´◡`❁)
AND YEYEYE THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT THE BUSINESS WITH CHIHIRO WAS GONNA BE TOO !!!!! IT WAS DEFINITELY INTENTIONAL ME THINKS LIKE ugh... AtR is masterful as all hell for everything it does i truly loved it a lot...
#long post#snap chats#my seal of approval is worth something... and what if i said Teehee LMAOO#BUT i do hope you enjoy it (❁´◡`❁) it might not have tsutsumi in it but yo oizumi certainly does a great job as kondo me thinks#with it being live action and Just A Sprinkle more serious than the anime tachibana isn't as comedically explosive anymore#but she can still be curt. i was a lil upset that yoshizawa and nishida didnt keep their cute relationship#but again i get it.. we only have so much time and we dont wanna bounce around with the focus#again there are some changes that made me like. Hm. BUT nothing i hated#LIKE HOW THEY CUT OUT TSUBU LIKE NOOOOOO MY LIL MAN..... but ill live i suppose....#and again there were changes i DID enjoy- like for one thing i like how tachibana's mom is actually here LMAO#but ill save all that for when you finish the movie 🤭 i hope you enjoy ! and i hope you enjoy the rest of tsuma ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶#moving on... ye neednt tell me how you respect mr tsutsumi... i am aware no worries friend..#with that in mind it is hard makin my Cute Tsutsumi Charas list...#'snap you put ikegami on the list' i did. because he was cute and silly and just a lil quirky#i was gonna put hiro on the list but then i remember how most of the time i wanted to hit him with a trout#he's still cute to me tho but tsugaru's just a flavor of awkward that i really thinkg is endearing#hiro's cute in that he's a stubborn old man who's still earnest. also he loves his wife and Wife Guys always get points#but alas... his wife isn't around anymore so we don't get to see that much.. have to deduct some of those points...#i also thought toru (pure) was cute but he's more Brooding cute and his cutest moments are with yuka#and i wanted to keep the list limited to Cute Mostly On Their Own#BUT ANYWAY. ENOUGH OF THAT BEFORE I GO ON TOO MUCH.#i couldnt find any of the other kansai-infused media.. i tried looking for tonbi but i wasnt sure which one he was in#and when i checked the cast list of either of them i didnt find him credited.. i COULD just check his imdb but. laziness is an illness yk..#potentially lying on the bali plans too... KA only has the raw footage but i COULD try to 47 Ronin In Debt my way through it...

Hey there! How are you doing? Just saw your tier list, which definitely has some good opinions! Today, I'm looking at the bottom of the barrel here, and I would like your opinion on some of the characters there. I remember your thoughts on Hiro, Yuuto, and Kanade, and I think I get why you like someone as bratty as Junko and her AI. So instead, I'm gonna focus on two: Haiji, Issei and Mitch (or how I like to call him, Discount Leon). I think I know why you don't like them, but I'm still asking.
//I’ll start with Mitch who, while he could also be called Discount Leon, he could also be called “Leon but worse.” Not only is he even more arrogant and unpleasant to be around, never forget that he also tried to force himself on Akane. That is 31 flavors of not okay. I felt genuinely uncomfortable when he talked about how hot she is in his FTEs. Not to mention, when you look past his worst traits, the most you can say about him is that he genuinely loves soccer...and that’s about it. He doesn’t have much going for him ^^;
//Haiji because, even if you look past his objectively worst trait, he’s still a whiny, selfish, cowardly, vindictive manchild who bullied his younger sister incessantly, to the point that her faking being crippled seemed plausible to him. Not only that, but when Towa Group did a stupid and put Monaca in charge of the robotics division, Haiji and his father put their profits and the company’s image over the rest of society’s well-being. Oh, and then there was him basically encouraging a teenage girl to commit genocide against brainwashed children, just out of anger.
//In short, Haiji is the worst for a number of reasons.
//However, Issei wins the award for “Most Consistently Unpleasant DR character I’ve met.” His introduction in The After involved him handing out his own nudes to people who didn’t ask. While some characters can be annoying or grating, Issei is genuinely insufferable with how smug, gross and full of himself he is.
//And let me be 100% clear on something regarding the first case (spoilers)
//Not only did he kill Yukime, my favorite character, because she happened to wound his pride with a small comment, but he did so while framing Chisa. Which he did by stealing some make-up from Marin and using it to darken his features to look more like her. Yes, seriously.
//That means Issei is the only blackened I know of whose murder plot literally involved blackface.
//I can’t say I was sad to see him go, though I will say that his sprites are probably the best in terms of expressiveness among these trio of troublemakers.

Reflections and some discussion under the cut
As u can see I had a Claire Keegan Deirdre Madden phase at the start of the year.....they're both good authors and Madden is v underrated imo (though Remembering Light and Stone was a little underwhelming for me, but still memorable).
My goal was 25 books and I'm happy I reached it. Reading books was something I loved as a child, but for various reasons I got very out of the habit and it got to the stage where I was really struggling to concentrate on reading novels for even a short period of time. But over the last couple of years I've been sloooowly getting back into the habit and so this year I privately set myself this challenge and while it did keep me motivated because I wanted to reach it, it also wasn't a burden and I really enjoyed being a bookworm again. I thought a few times about getting Goodreads again but I honestly think that it was one of the many things which put me off reading in the first place. I don't like feeling like I have to read fifty or a hundred or more books, and there is pressure to do that, and personally I do not feel that I can always sum up my feelings on a book neatly out of five stars.
Some of my faves this year were: Small Things Like These; One by One in the Darkness, The Thursday Murder Club; Convenience Store Woman; Before the Coffee Gets Cold; Burnt Out. Though I liked most of the books I read this year and I kinda just want to keep adding to this list.
My least faves: The Love and Lies of Rukhsana Ali (it was not the best written but not the worst, I liked aspects of it but others...not so much); Agatha Raisin (though I was expecting it to be well written lol); Lies of Silence (I have literally no idea how that book got shortlisted for the Booker Prize. It was meant to be a thriller but it was dull and predictable. RIP to the female characters' potential. I half wonder if I missed something because it seems to be on the LC curriculum, but there are so many more better books that deal with similar issues, like One by One in the Darkness by Deirdre Madden for example).
DNF (and do not really want to finish): Asking For It by Louise O'Neill. No doubt an important book and well written, but just too graphic for me.
I think I'm gonna keep the goal of 25 books for this year, but branch out a bit more. A lot of the books I didn't get finished last year were non-fiction, so I'll finish them and then add them to my 2024 list (is that cheating? lol idrc), and try to read other non fiction books and memoirs. Also, just over half of the books I read were Irish (14 books - 52 odd per cent), and while I LOVE Irish fiction (somebody talk to me about Deirdre Madden please) and the non-fiction books I read were really important and felt quite personal (Diary of a Young Naturalist gave me a greater appreciation for local wildlife, and was fun to read because I've been to many of the places the author described, and Burnt Out should be read by anybody who wants to understand The Troubles and made me think of my own family's experience, as well as appreciate impressive historical research done by a non-university academic) but I could probably do with exploring other cultures and histories more. So I'll try to do that. I'd also like to read more poetry, but I can't just sit down and read a book of poetry the same way I can a novel, I must spend days and weeks analysing a poem and going insane over it. I may or may not read a poetry book over a few months...we shall see.

Oh how about hcs of the dr1 boys helping their S/O through a panic attack? Love your blog btw! :)
Of course anon! Just so you know, I put every THH guy except Hifumi due to the fact that he’s on my blacklist, but I hope you enjoy nonetheless!
REQUEST: Headcanons of THH guys comforting you through a panic attack
‼️POSSIBLE TW: Mention of panic attacks‼️
LEON KUWATA:
•Leon didn’t really have a lot of experience with this sort of thing, but you were his S/O and he loved you so he was gonna try his best.
•He would probably take you to a couch or a bed or anywhere comfy like that and just hold you.
•He would let you play with his hands and he would tell you to try to match your breathing with his.
•He would give you soft kisses and continue to hold you.
•”Shhh it’s gonna be okay, just breathe okay?”
•He would give you back rubs and spoil the hell out of you for the next week. He would spend a bunch of the money he got from playing baseball on comfort items just for you.
•Leon kept on doubting himself through the process because he’s never comforted someone like this before but he was actually really good at calming you down.
CHIHIRO FUJISAKI:
•Chihiro knew the feeling all too well, and he hated seeing you go through that.
•He would hug you tightly and just talk to you calmly.
•”I love you Y/N... just remember that i’m right here and i’ll stay here for as long as it takes...”
•You were always there for him when he was having a hard time and he always felt so useless when he was never able to do that for you, so he felt as though it was his duty to help you right now.
•If you let him, he would sit in your lap and have you play with his hair, he was gonna do whatever it took to calm you down. He also secretly wanted to have physical contact with you.
•He would put together a compilation of soothing sounds and music on his computer and have you listen to it to help you calm down.
•Chihiro loved you so much and you were basically his rock, so he was going to do anything it took to help you during such a difficult time.
MONDO OWADA:
•Similar to Leon, Mondo didn’t know anything about comforting someone either. But this man loved you so much, so he was going to do whatever he could.
•He would have you lay down on his chest as he wrapped his long arms around your body, trying to make you feel safe.
•He would probably try to make you dinner but fail miserably so he would order from your favorite fast food place instead.
•He would carry you around the house whenever he needed to do something, he didn’t want you to be alone during such a vulnerable time.
•If you needed space and didn’t want to have too much physical contact, he would sit not too far from you and tell you reassuring things.
•”Y/N just focus on my voice alright? You’re gonna be okay, you’re so damn strong and you can get through anything.”
•Mondo really loved you and just wanted you to be happy.
KIYOTAKA ISHIMARU:
•Taka was so worried about you when he saw you having a panic attack, he also felt incredibly guilty because he had been pushing you to get more homework done and he knew that that was a big reason why you were going through this right now.
•He would take any homework you were doing away from you and tell you how sorry he was for pushing it on you, he was very emotional in this moment.
•”Y-Y/N, I’m so sorry, I never intended to overwhelm you with all of this. Please let me make it up to you.”
•He couldn’t help himself, he began to cry.
•He quickly calmed himself down however, because he knew that you needed him in that moment.
•He wasn’t the most affectionate boyfriend, but he was very determined to help you calm down.
•He would hold you in his arms and rub your back very gently.
•He treated you as if you were some sort of fragile antique, he made sure to handle you with extreme care.
•Taka was willing to do anything to make you feel safe and happy because you were the first person who has ever loved him this way, and he never thought that he would find anyone who felt that way about him, so you were extremely precious to him.
YASUHIRO HAGAKURE:
•Hiro was a massive goofball who almost never took anything seriously, so when you began to have a panic attack in front of him, he was extremely nervous and didn’t know what to do.
•He would initially try to make you laugh because he didn’t know what else to do at the time.
•”Look Y/N! My crystal ball says that there’s a 60% chance that i’ll kiss you soon! *smooch* OH WOW!!! SPOOKY!!!”
•If that doesn’t work, he will internally panic, he didn’t know what he could do to help you.
•After a bit of time, he would sit down and have you sit in his lap.
•He would just hold you for a while, he would constantly ask if he was holding you okay because this boy was NERVOUS.
•Hiro didn’t want to mess up because he loved you so much, but truth be told, he was a lot better at comforting you than he would think.
BYAKUYA TOGAMI:
•Out of every guy on this list, Byakuya is definitely the most out of his element here. He didn’t even know where to begin.
•He would start by taking your smaller hand in his larger one and rub the back of yours with his thumb in a gentle fashion.
•After a while, he would have you pick out a book.
•When you picked a book, he would pull you into his lap and read it very calmly.
•He wanted to take you away from whatever was making you anxious, and seeing you like this killed him.
•When he finished reading he would just hold you in his arms.
•He wasn’t the best with words but he would try to say at least something to calm your nerves.
•”I love you Y/N... I sincerely apologize if my efforts are insufficient in helping you.”
•Byakuya was much sweeter to you than normal for the next week or so, he wanted to make sure that he didn’t accidentally upset you or anything.
MAKOTO NAEGI:
•Makoto was heartbroken when he saw you having a panic attack.
•He hated seeing you in such a miserable state.
•He was 100% determined to help you through this. He loved you so much and didn’t want to see you in any pain.
•He would give you cuddles, he would hold you or let you hold him, whatever you would prefer.
•He would spoil you with a bunch of presents and treat you like royalty.
•If you started crying, he would whisper to you and let you know that everything would be okay.
•”It’s alright Y/N, let it all out, it’s okay...”
•Makoto was absolutely devoted to you in every way and wanted nothing more than for you to feel good.
THE END.

I hope you liked these! I actually had a really good time writing them!

tagged by @rollthatbeautifuldeanfootage to list five comfort characters! i won’t lie, the whole concept of comfort characters stresses me out because of how people act about it, buuuut going by the definition of characters who give you comfort? let’s go:
1. hinata hajime, super dangan ronpa 2: the first character who truly rewired my brain. soooooo empathetic but blunt to the point of absurdity, always willing to give people a second chance, and the reason i believe so strongly in kindness. HE LOVES HIS FRIENDS ;-; no sense of self-worth, but full of great things-- god. GOD. i love himmmmm. when the anime came out i full-on sobbed over how sweet he looked.
Tumblr media
1. donald “jared” dunn, silicon valley: sweetheart. poor, done-unto sweetheart. my favourite neurotic mess, my put-together business boy, my oblivious, intelligent babe. my half-feral, fucking hilarious fave. he looks like he gives good hugs. (can you tell i like tall brunettes with gigantic hands?)
Tumblr media
3. allison hargreeves, umbrella academy: i’m not into this show in a fandom-engagement way at all, but allison owns my entire heart. conflicted and soft and full of longing, but capable and strong enough to protect the ones she loves. i think her character was a really fresh take on ‘superpowered woman afraid of her powers,’ and her relationship with vanya is so fraught and layered yet full of love.
Tumblr media
4. roxy lalonde, homestuck: i haven’t read any of the post-canon material, so keep that in mind. roxy is so kind. she’s here to have fun, but her arc about learning that it’s okay to be herself and not always be the fun friend hits. she’s so strong, overcoming substance abuse and wanting to make rose proud when they finally meet, and her depth of feeling is phenomenal. i literally adore her. there’s something about her live and let live attitude that i hope i bring across in my life. and i know she would give good hugs :) also. wizards. what’s not to love.
Tumblr media
it took me so long to think of another character that i almost gave up and put down moss (it brings me comfort!!) but i thought of one from YEARS ago:
5. n, pokemon black/white: do you know how many times i rode that fuckin ferris wheel? god damn. n was IT for me when i was 11. i’m not gonna lie i can’t remember most of the game but i was obsessed with him and looking at photos of him made me feel really relaxed so i think he qualifies. boom done.
Tumblr media
oh shit, actually, better option that i actually remember:
6. hiro nakamura, heroes: SWEETHEART!!! and badass. and kind. and empathetic, and-- i really do have a type, huh. he’s a huge contributor to my passion for life and for the goodness of humanity. every time the rest of the cast were ready to give up, hiro’s there to push them forward. i loved his relationship with ando (cuties!) and his dynamic with sylar; deeply interesting character work between those two. his relationship with his dad is heartwrenching as well.

FRUITS BASKET S2 EPISODE 18 + short Ep 1-17 english dub recap
AND I'M BACK WITH THE MADNESS.
Took a bit of a break from the Fruits Basket recaps because life happened and I wanted to focus a bit more on my art career and my webcomic. But, I came to miss doing the recaps! So, I'm gonna try and finish season 2 and do some of the left over recaps now in time for when Season 3 drops!
I HAVE however been re-watching the older episodes of Fruits Basket Season 2 with the english dub this time and I have a few notes!:
A shoutout to the wording used in the Yuki 'confession' scene on the beach with Tohru. However, in the sub the confession came across a lot more like platonic love to me and in the dub the confession came across a lot more romantic. (Especially in the episode after where Yuki says he doesn't regret kissing Tohru lol)
Laura Bailey stays killing it as Tohru. All the little vocal inflections are so freakin cute and make her sound more human! But that also speaks to the editing as well which is great. The balance between a little naive and scared and yet strong and determined in her scene with Akito was... amazing.
(Also... all of Akito’s most violent and hurtful moments are when it’s dark... I dunno I just found that cool and interesting lol)
Jerry Jewell in EPISODE 9?!?! His scene with Akito always gets me regardless but Jerry Jewell's performance was heartbreaking! Ah, I could cry. (I did) The little shake he did while declaring he wasn't in love with Tohru because he can't say that shit actually truthfully? 😩 Also... is he intentionally making Kyo’s voice sound a little deeper? It definitely sounded like it in that episode with Kagura. I like!!
While I LOATHE Akito, Colleen Clinkenbeard is amazing, I've never heard her sound this sneakingly evil! And yet... it's slightly carefree too. Reminds me a lot of Shigure. As I said before, Akito and Shigure's english VAs pair up so nicely in audible form.
I love how flirty Hatori was in the English dub when it came to him and Mayu’s episode. It was a really lovely performance from Kent Williams :) I always read that scene of Hatori just being friendly when asking Mayu out to get something to eat but this was a whole other wonderful take!!! <3
I LOVE KIMI TODO’S ENGLISH VA’S PERFORMANCE OMG. THANK YOU, CHERAMAI LEIGH 🤣
Kakeru’s English VA continues to sound cuter and cuter... 😘 Whassup, Aaron Dimsuke? I kid, lol
I lovee the fact that Haru calls Yuki ‘fragile and kind’ (two typically feminine presenting descriptions) and Yuki took it as a compliment! I dunno about the description of fragile as many people could take that offensively, regardless of gender, but the way it’s explained here it’s almost like he’s describing him as precious?... Coulda went with that instead...
I like the decisions for the moments where Mikaela Krantz emphasises on Momiji’s put on German accent and when she tones it down and return to his natural voice
But anyways... lol, this episode was... a LOT. Not an easy breezy one for me to come back to at all... I’ll be watching the english dub.
TIME TO DIVE BACK IN!
-------------------------------------------
- Hiro's so cute at the start of this episode talking about his sibling and how he wants to look out for his mum. Of course, it's in the most Hiro of ways but this scene definitely warmed me up to him a lot more :)
Tumblr media
Hiro’s mum is like a future Tohru, haha
Tumblr media
That hair animation they give Rin is always great 😂 I hope Takaya-sensei is proud.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s so curious how Hiro speaks so honestly and true to Rin yet is so careful of her emotions. He’s never really been like this with anyone but Kisa, especially not the other teens or adults. It kinda shows how much seeing what happened to Rin by Akito’s hands really got to him and traumatised him. Of course, Hiro’s not just doing this because of his trauma but cos he genuinely cares!
- I noticed that there was a slight parallel between Hiro + Kisa and Rin + Haru. Kinda highlights why breaking the curse is important to Hiro and gives more reason as to why that event with Rin and Akito freaked him out.
- I dunno if this is intentional or just an animation glitch but I’ve noticed that in that long panning shot in the opening theme that closes into Yuki, Tohru and Kyo looking at the sunset, it looks like Kyo’s experession kinda ‘glitches’ in between a smile and a stoic look. Again, I don’t know if it was intentional, but I like to think it’s as a little show of Kyo not really managing to attain true happiness fully (for now anyway).
- (Also, I think that this opening song might come third in my list of most favourite opening songs in Fruits Basket history!!! <3<3<3)
- I’m super glad that Shigure and Rin scene didn’t go any further than it needed to... 👀 but the fact that Rin thought ‘Gure would be up for using her body as a bargaining chip says more about Shigure than Rin in my humble opinion...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Self-loathing? From Shigure? Unexpected. Empathy? For him? A little.
...Damn it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🤣
I’m sorry. This scene is very gorgeous, well lit and beautiful and dramatic. But, I can’t not laugh at how early 00s gothic romance this is! But, I love it. It’s sweet and probably the first ‘raunchy’ scene we’ve gotten in this anime, ooo la! But, that kiss animation was kinda awkward for me, sorry. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Tumblr media
I hate that Rin is AGAIN getting Outfit Appreciation Award when she’s literally killing herself with stress and worry but... amazing wardrobe as always. 5 stars.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is it just me or does every zodiac member see Tohru as a parental figure or associate her with motherhood, except for Kyo?...
*mentally notes essay of Tohru being the depiction of being a ‘merciful God’ compared to Akito being the decpiction of being a ‘vengeful God’*
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Heartbreaking.
but... WHY DO THEY ALL HAVE TO HAVE PARENTAL ISSUES?!
Also, Briana Palencia in this scene was amazing. Everyone is so, so good in this show! Dub and sub!!

...I totally forgot about this bit of Rin’s backstory. I love that they really highlighted how drastic the change was from happy family to an abusive household. Obviously, there must have been some cracks in the frame of the happy family and Rin as a child was inquisitive enough to see them. ...Only for her to be later punished for it.
Tumblr media
Kazuma!!! He and Tohru just be constantly saving these zodiac kids, man.
- Rin’s parents might just be at the same level as Kyo’s dad on the ‘WORST PARENTS OF THE ZODIAC CHILDREN’ list. Well... until later...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🥺💝
Beginning to understand why they’re so attached and bonded to each other now. <3
- Also, lowkey, Kagura’s mum is great! From her protecting Kagura from going to the beach house because of Akito to her taking Rin in without question! And she seemed completely cool with Kyo too! Yay to good parents in anime!!!
- The confession scene between Haru and Rin is so pure and blunt yet romantic and just... so them <3
- I’m not even gonna put any screencaps from the final scene with Akito because I find Akito is just disgusting. But, really? Pushing someone off the balcony?! I mean... I remember why Akito’s feelings for Rin are so strong and darkly intense but I still can’t excuse their actions. I kinda don’t like that they presented this very abusive and violent moment as... poetic? I mean, it matches Rin’s ‘style’, I guess? But... this is just someone going past the limit.
- And her landing like that on the conveniently pointy stone? I was surprised she didn’t damage her spine...
----------------------------------------------------------
I’m so happy I’m watching Fruits Basket again! This anime really is the best! And it DESERVEDLY won Best Drama at the CrunchyRoll Anime Awards! Yayyyyy! Sorry, if this ended on a weird note, I did enjoy this episode. Just a very dark one to return to 😅
See you... soon? Haha!

what Classic Film(TM) you should watch based on who your fave Danganronpa 1/2 character is
disclaimer - obviously as a film dude i’m gonna say you should watch all of these. but maybe watch the one correlating to your fave first!
Makoto: 12 Angry Men (1957, dir. Sidney Lumet) - strong themes of justice, it’s about a jury trying to determine a man’s guilt. it’s basically what Makoto does for the entire game. you’ll also like it if you’re a fan of Phoenix Wright.
Sayaka: A Star is Born (1954, dir. George Cukor) - it’s all about a girl’s rise to fame and how her relationships change with that. there’s three versions of this film, most recently with Lady Gaga.
Mukuro: Vertigo (1958, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - themes of murder and hiding your identity, losing yourself to a cause.
Leon: Animal House (1978, dir. John Landis) - a comedy about a fraternity. it’s THE college frat movie and i think Leon would enjoy it a lot.
Chihiro: WarGames (1983, dir. John Badham) - two teenagers might have accidentally started a world war during the cold war by trying to play computer games...fitting for the series, no?
Mondo: On the Waterfront (1954, dir. Elia Kazan) - struggling to do the right thing and being sort of frustrated about your circumstances as they pertain to class and missed opportunities. being dragged into bad situations by family. also Marlon Brando is a bicon and very hot in this movie.
Taka: Rebel Without a Cause (1955, dir. Nicholas Ray) - a lot of turbulent shit happens to three teenagers over the course of 24 hours. one of - if not the first canonically gay teenager on film. i think we all know by now that James Dean was mlm, but so were the director and Sal Mineo. big bi polyam vibes; if you like chishimondo as a ship you’ll probably like this film too.
Hifumi: Akira (1988, dir. Katsuhiro Otomo) - had a hard time figuring out what to put for Hifumi, but overall i think if nothing else he’d appreciate how impressive the animation was (and honestly, still is) along with the fact that the mangaka was also the director. so although there’s a lot cut out (the manga had not finished before the film came out), it’s still roughly the same plot as the manga.
Celes: Dracula (1931, dir. Tod Browning) - probably the most iconic iteration of Bram Stoker’s novel, this is the one staring Bela Lugosi. not terribly true to the novel from what i remember, but it’s peak aesthetic and exactly the kind of thing she’d enjoy.
Sakura: Rashomon (1950, dir. Akira Kurosawa) - finally getting onto films i haven’t actually seen but that are on my list. sakura’s another person i had a hard time deciding on a film for, but the “several characters telling different accounts of the same plot” reminded me a bit of her case in the game.
Hina: West Side Story (1961, dir. Robert Wise & Jerome Robbins) - admittedly i had a different film in mind for her to start with, but Maria’s final monologue fits with Hina’s motivations during Sakura’s case.
Toko: Gone With the Wind (1939, dir. Victor Fleming) - another one i haven’t actually watched yet, but it’s based on a famous novel, described as “epic historical romance.” i think that vibes with Toko pretty well.
Byakuya: Citizen Kane (1941, dir. Orson Welles) - if you’re really interested in film, you’re gonna be made to watch this sooner or later. famous for being the “best film ever made”, it’s more or less about newspaper moguls like William Randolph Hearst - who is also the main reason why this film is famous at all. it’s not exactly a flattering depiction of those kinds of people and boy, did that ever piss Hearst off. if he hadn’t made such a big deal trying to keep Citizen Kane from seeing the light of day, something much better might have made it to the top spot.
Hiro: The Music Man (1962, dir. Morton DaCosta) - based on the Broadway musical of the same name, a “travelling salesman” (read: con artist) starts to work his latest con on a gullible small town, but actually starts liking the people in it.
Kyoko: The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - not to be confused with the other Hitchcock film from the 30s also titled The Man Who Knew Too Much. this is the one with James Stewart and Doris Day. it’s a highly suspenseful film that gave us the song “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)”.
Junko: Gaslight (1944, dir. George Cukor) - ever heard the term “gaslighting”? this is where it comes from! based on a play in which a woman’s husband psychologically tortures her into believing she is going insane.
Monokuma: Duck Soup (1933, dir. Leo McCarey) - all Marx Brothers films are as utterly silly (and sometimes as incomprehensible) as one of Monokuma’s MonoTheatres. i watched about half of Duck Soup and had to stop because it was finals week and i was supposed to be doing something other than losing my shit.
Hajime: It’s a Wonderful Life (1946, dir. Frank Capra) - you probably already know this film. if you’re Christian you know it as That Film Your Parents Watch Every Year On Dec 24th Around Midnight. if you have seasonal depression, don’t watch it then; warning for suicidal ideation. it’s supposed to be uplifting. your mileage may vary on that one.
Impostor: To Kill a Mockingbird (1962, dir. Robert Mulligan) - i don’t have a good reason to pair these two up other than gut feeling. as far as film adaptations of books go, it’s pretty damn good, and Atticus Finch is the original DILF. themes of childhood innocence and racism.
Teruteru: Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961, dir. Blake Edwards) - apparently much different from the novella on which it is based, but i think Teruteru would really dig the aesthetic and romantic vibes of the film. Holly Golightly is probably the original Manic Pixie Dream Girl.
Mahiru: Rear Window (1954, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - like It’s a Wonderful Life, chances are good you know this film - or at least, you’ve seen its plot recycled a hell of a lot. a professional photographer recovering from a broken leg thinks he witnesses a murder take place and is determined to get to the truth.
Peko: Seven Samurai (1954, dir. Akira Kurosawa) - another one on my to-watch list, but it’s oft referenced and remade in film. a village hires seven ronin to protect them from bandits who will return to steal their crops.
Hiyoko: East of Eden (1955, dir. Elia Kazan) - i’ll be honest here, i didn’t really know what to put for Hiyoko because i’m not sure i understand much about her, but i seem to remember her family playing a pretty big role in her being Like That and for “shitty family” the first two things to come to mind were this and Giant. and unless you like 3-hour long movies about the state of Texas, i’m not about to recommend you watch Giant.
Ibuki: A Night at the Opera (1935, dir. Sam Wood) - another Marx Bros film in which they help a girl both to be with her lover and to achieve her dreams of stardom as an opera singer. the kind of silly, manic thing i think Ibuki would like.
Mikan: The Shining (1980, dir. Stanley Kubrick) - i hate hate hate putting this on here, but since this is for film and not books i couldn’t exactly state to read the book. the book is about the cycle of abuse. the movie is more about... a trapped man going crazy in a spooky hotel.
Nekomaru: It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963, dir. Stanley Kramer) - comedy about five groups of people racing to get to a large sum of money buried by a recently escaped convict they stopped to help out after his car crash. it’s a comedy, and just kinda seemed like Nekomaru’s thing.
Gundham: The Seventh Seal (1957, dir. Ingmar Bergman) - i watched this in like 10th grade and all i really remember is a man playing chess with Death and if that doesn’t say Gundham Tanaka to you, i don’t know what does.
Nagito: North by Northwest (1959, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - i don’t really have a reason for this one either but it’s a spy film and i think komaeda could get behind that kind of intrigue.
Chiaki: Metropolis (1927, dir. Fritz Lang) - not to be confused with the anime, this is a 1927 German expressionist film that seems to be about socialism and unionization. it’s also famous for its (purposeful) use of the Male Gaze and being one of the first sci-fi films ever made. be warned: it is a silent film.
Sonia: Strangers on a Train (1951, dir. Alfred Hitchcock) - another one of those films you’ll get told to watch if you’re interested in the queer history of film, i was gonna put something else but honestly the character of Barbara kinda reminded me of Sonia. a famous tennis player meets a man on a train who attempts to plan a double-murder with him.
Akane: My Fair Lady (1964, dir. George Cukor) - i was trying so hard not to double up on the post about musicals, but Akane really does have Eliza Doolittle vibes. they’re both feral and nothing would be able to really domesticate them. for whatever it’s worth, this film and the musical on which it is based is itself based on the play Pygmalion, in which your typical rich cishet white dude bets he can turn any street urchin into a real lady because he’s just that good. you might know the plot better as Pretty Woman.
Kazuichi: A Streetcar Named Desire (1951, dir. Elia Kazan) - i don’t really have a good excuse for this one, either; i haven’t even watched it yet (although i have read the play on which it is based). all i’m gonna say is i want Souda to have his gay awakening via Marlon Brando, as we all do.
Fuyuhiko: Casablanca (1942, dir. Michael Curtiz) - despite his love and adoration for Ingrid Bergman, Humphrey Bogart decides fighting Nazis is more important. i think Fuyuhiko would like the aesthetic, and the film. don’t let him know but i think he’d probably cry watching it.
Usami: To Sir, With Love (1967, dir. James Clavell) - issues of race and class intersecting in a film about a teacher working with inner city students. i was going to put Singin’ in the Rain here, because it’s what Usami would want people to watch...but i think this better fits the effect she wants to have as a being.

Maou-jou 1 | Munou na Nana 1 | Grace of the Gods 1 | IWGP 1 | Akudama 1 | Crusade 1 | JJK 1 | HypMic 2 (also brief thoughts on the dog and cat TV short because I had them)
Maou-jou 1
I sampled this manga with what’s called a “Viz sampler”. I only ever seem to find those at libraries, so I’d assume only they and bookstores can get those.
…Twilight looks like Maou Sadao (Hataraku Maou-sama!).
“Dawner”??? I can read katakana, ya idjits. His name is Akatsuki. Update: The translator must’ve gone, “Dawn is a girl’s name. Let’s tack on an -er so it looks like a guy’s name.”
Aw, Hiro Shimono is Akatsuki. If it were Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, we could’ve gotten a Kirito joke out of it.
Oh! 快眠 (Kaimin) = good rest, literally “happy sleep”. Hence this is the nation of Goodreste. I see.
The lightning effect is soooooooooo cool! *eyes glitter at the particle effects*
I’m gonna die from cuteness from all the teddies and seals!
The little fanfare is so cute and the yokudekimashita reminds me of my days playing the arcade game Bomberman (which had a flower sticker much like this one). I wanna see this get a dub and succeed on all its merits! It’s basically my baby already…bar the fact it took a bit to work up to the first good bit of comedy.
The teddy demons are called Debiakuma, a pun on kuma (bear), devil and akuma (devil). Lessee…After “lesser demon”, there’s more text…“Fluffy bears that can be also used as pets. They give in easily to temptation. A lot of them live in the demon castle, so the princess likes to gather their fur, dye it and spin nice cotton out of it. Warning: A lot of them will either run away or call you their friend./Occasionally act as friends for the princess.”
LOL, I recognised that voice of the Scissors guy straight away…although I didn’t know who it belonged to. That’s Suwabe. (It doesn’t sound like Suwabe, I would’ve thought it to be Takuma Terashima or something.)
Aw, the Japanese version is more boring this time. It’s just Scissor Magician (in the singular for both).
*hears Scissors Demon going -ageruwa”, which is a feminine sentence ending…that’s Suwabe trying to (voice) act effeminate???!!!
These trumpet sounds never get old.
LOL, Siberian huskies dressed as Russians…
Okay, my turn again: Hari means needle, toge means thorn. Next to “His stomach is soft”, part of the subs are cut off due to Funimation’s hardsubs, but I can read “he is proud of his defence” on the 2nd line, “is the type to not refuse when relied on” on the 2nd-last line and “his favourite food is strange bird chawanmushi” on the last line.
I love how parts of the castle are upside down for no reason at all except to look cool…architects must hate that, though.
I hadn’t heard of “seesaw battles” until now. but the metaphor does make sense...kind of.
What about changing the mattress? Update: She does do that…kind of.
Gaaaaaaaaaaaaah! Kirito was under my nose all along! Damn Demon Kinggggggggggggggggggg!
Kamina glasses on one of the background trees! Cute tapir! Ahhhhhhhh, it’s so cuteeeeeeee!
Anyways, that’s a fun show. Not as fun as HypMic, but still fun after it gains momentum.
Munou na Nana 1
I remember seeing spoilers for a twist at the end…let’s hope I don’t anticipate it. That would kill the entire anime for me.
The message actually says something about how the island is a nest for enemies of humanity.
There’s the ice narcissist I saw in the promo stuff, right on cue. I’ve never heard of his voice actor Hiromichi Tezuka before, although he does sound like Hiroshi Kamiya or someone much better.
Why do I get the feeling once the title character arrives, even Nanao will get powers…? Or maybe Nana is the catalyst for Nanao’s powers awakening or something? (Just realised having a Nana and a Nanao together in the same anime is confusing…)
Subbers spelt “noblesse oblige” wrong, unless it was deliberately done as such.
I predicted the “duke it out” line.
There’s a menu on the wall of the restaurant.
Maybe Nanao’s “talent” is his leadership stat or something?
Or maybe even Nanao is an enemy of humanity and doesn’t know it? (Sorry, speculation going into overdrive…that usually happens with superpower works like this for me, because I like to analyse them.)
Maybe Nanao can see the future, like the protag from Koi to Producer?
Technically, shouldn’t ice be weak against fire…? Or am I too used to the Pokemon system?
Called it! Nanao has a hidden power! (That reminds me: I still don’t know what Lucien’s (from Koi to Producer’s) power really is.)
Vigilantes is really good at exploring how people can expand on their own powers.
…wow, I heard rumours that the main character was going to die, but I’d pegged Nana to die, not Nanao.
Onodera is clearly important…maybe he was the one with the wind powers? Or was Nana lying about that?
…dude, the red eyes are kinda obvious that Nana is evil in some way, or at least really devious.
Grace of the Gods 1
All I really know of this is that it’s got slimes and it’s an isekai/SoL hybrid…That’s it.
…I am not, I repeat NOT, on board for a harem centred around an 11 year old!
Ryoma speaks with an unnatural amount of starts and stops, hence the caveman speak.
What’s Jil’s role in the party…?
Why would you even need to know 4 high-level skills? Isn’t it better to know all of them?
LOL, I knew the isekaid guy was meant to have a hard life so he could start over with slimes, but…stick Doppo in this and it’s basically the same thing. At least Doppo tries to resist his bosses behind their backs, this guy just did the whole gaman thing and look where that got him!
If he worked for a black company with no overtime and so forth, how did he know about a recent anime trend, eh??? Sounds suspect. Update: Unless he was thinking about 90s isekai, which still involved less reincarnation than this.
I noticed the gods have senbei (the rice crackers with the seaweed). Western-looking gods probably shouldn’t have senbei, unless…they did that to make Ryoma feel more at home?
Seriously, how does a guy with no overtime still have time for online games? Even if he were getting just ads for them, he probably wouldn’t have paid enough attention to be able to figure out what the cliches are, right? Either that, or the Dragon Quest system is older than I think it is.
Slimes don’t have paws…or hands or other appendages…to give…
…I’m not sure what to think there. Am I meant to think the slimes are cute? Am I meant to think the catgirls/animal girls are cute? The answer to those questions is “no”, so…eh.
IWGP 1
Basically, I chose this for associations with HypMic.
…the best first impression involves a CGI car. Of course. <- (sarcastic)
Given HypMic, I almost expected a rap battle…nahhhh…Rap battles don’t look so cool outside HypMic, man.
The owl is a pun. Fukurou (owl) matches ‘bukuro (bag, which is the 2nd character in “Ikebukuro”). There’s also an owl statue used as a meeting spot, much like Hachiko in Shibuya…(I learnt a bunch of things about the division territory through HypMic. Let me show off…)
I think the character designer for this anime also did Joker Game…that’s throwing me off a little. Also, they had a prime opportunity to use a Buster Bros song, so I’m still a bit miffed about that – this OP’s kinda standard. Update: The character designer is Junichiro Taniguchi – my insinct was wrong on him. He did Touken Ranbu Hanamaru’s character designs.
“Smoking kills” – Yuuuuuuuup. That’s true.
Why do I get the feeling all the male otaku will wanna bang Makoto’s mother (to put it lightly)…?
Curiously, the one who hates drugs in HypMic is Jyuto, who’s not from Ikebukuro Division at all. Hmm…
Yokoyama’s voice sounds familiar…but I’m not sure why. Update: If I had to guess, I’d say he’s Saito Soma or someone who sounds similar, so maybe Takuma Terashima, Daisuke Ono or something like that. Update 2: Takahiro Sakurai. See? I knew I knew that voice.
“Big Rei” (“Rei-nii”). That’s different from Ichi-nii (what Saburo calls Ichiro) and could also be goroawase for 02.
Uni of Tokyo is the most prestigious uni in Japan. It has quite the reputation.
…is it just me, or does Makoto have a piercing in his left ear? IWGP also happens to happily work with my existing character, although said character has a piercing in his right ear.
Zero One kinda looks like Uta (Tokyo Ghoul), LOL.
…and of course the girl has to rely on the dude. *sigh* Welp, we can throw drugs off the list for “things that count as TV-MA to Funimation” – IWGP is rated M (not 15+ explicitly, but that’s what it stands for normally) in my region.
This ED song…that’s the sort of song I was expecting from HypMic, Akudama or this.
Seems both Makoto and Takashi have earrings…maybe in both ears? Takashi’s are yellow, I could confirm that much.
…this is decent, but putting it up against its competitors is a bit harsh.
Crusade 1 (cont. from sneak peek - it’s in the title here because this is where it’s completed)
Turns out that preview was most of the episode…like “14 of 24 minutes” long.
Wait, how did Alice fall forward and end up in the princess carry pose? I remember having trouble with that when a character in a story of mine had the same problem.
…Iska-nii…(?)
That opera house looks pretty darn modern to me…
…eh…that was middling. Nothing any ol’ adaption of Romeo and Juliet couldn’t do, bar the CGI for the magic fight in the middle. (There was a fluffy griffin thing in the middle there, though.)
Akudama 1
Ume + Kimura and a cool urban aesthetic. Let’s go!
This is kinda Tron-like, eh?
Ooh, now it’s more like Cop Craft.
Kimura seems to use his gruffer voice more than his Ichiro voice, but Ume is actually worse on that fron with his ordinary voice…Welp, at least his ordinary voice sounds like it fits right in with the Courier. I almost expect an Ocean’s Eleven thing (or Now You See Me, since I’ve actually watched that) from this. Update: Turns out Kimura is the pompadour guy, not the fighter.
You can tell Ordinary Person is an okay person because she keeps saving cats. A bit cliché, but it’ll do.
Ohhhhhh…I can see where this plotline is going. Ordinary Person pretends to be Swindler to get herself out of this mess, but then she keeps getting involved with the Akudama. It’s a typical plot for a typical gal, common to insert a viewpoint character in series that require one, or a magical girl ally.
Wow, those missiles look like a**.
LOL, Hoodlum’s sentence is kinda measly in comparison to most of them. Plus, when he yelled, that sounded more accurate to Ichiro than Fighter was, so…yeah, sorry I messed up.
…Ordinary Person has some real bullseye…uh, eyes.
This could be a top contender…aside from the CGI, which does look a bit funky. I’m getting a death game vibe here, but I don’t know if that’s really the case. Also, it’s a lot of fun, but the possible intolerable thing here is Ordinary Person’s screaming – the pretense she has to keep up seems like it’ll fit right in though.
JJK 1
I read the manga once, dropped it and then read it again and didn’t realise why I dropped it.
Fushiguro has long eyelashes, tbh. Itadori comments on that at one point, I think.
Oh, it was a fish (carp) in the manga. I couldn’t figure out what the Japanese equivalent was just from the Kokkuri board.
This track club teacher is a bit of a freak, honestly. Meddling in kids’ affairs is probably illegal to some extent.
Itadori is known as “tiger” because the kanji for “tiger” is in the surname. Update: Also, the Czech dude Mirko was called “the Croatian tiger”, if a tweet I read is any indication.
I like how there’s more comedy in this one. They show the world records, so you have standards to compare Itadori against.
This is an almost beat-for-beat adaption, bar the slight comedy of the records being added (and not explaning who Mirko is). The contrast makes this better.
“People really can die.” – That’s summoning some real energy of “People die when they are killed.”
(Brief thoughts on the dog and cat short: I enjoyed that more than I thought I would. The picture of a realistic cat – someone’s actual photo of their cat?- that serves as a punchline never gets old and in fact, sometimes contributes to the humour.)
HypMic 2
LOL, TV-MA warning strikes again.
“Kore wa prologue/Hajimete no ippo/Fumidasanai yatsu ni wa/???? shinpo.” – The translation is really good for the bits I can read…the problem is I can’t read the bottom left corner. Update: The part in the bottom left is nai...That’s it.
…uh, even people from around the world can read 24 hour time??? You don’t need subs to read Arabic numerals???
…couldn’t you have just told Ichiro verbally, Saburo…? Update: Come to think of it, kids these days are more on their phones than ever, so it makes sense but also kind of doesn’t.
You don’t really need subs for laughter either…
I’d never heard of “pulling rank” before…hmm: “to use one's high position in a society, organization, group, etc., to order someone to do something or to get special treatment or privileges.”
…and here comes the F word here to mess with us again. Japanese nastiness is conveyed using words that might be considered “soft” in English, hence the sudden jump to use the F word a bunch, but the subbers could use some variety in their swearing. I mean, “dips**t” worked where it did because subbers made Samatoki go overboard with the F word, but…you could stand to use that more, maybe(?)
I like how even the Tenderloins guy rhymes where he’s meant to. It’s the prelude to a battle, after all. (He kinda looks like Kotaro from Zombieland Saga.)
…I freaked out for a second. I swore I saw a similar-looking restaurant (udon shop, located on the left of one of the shots) while in Japan. Also, we finally get to see Ichiro’s reputation at work.
…I still have no idea what a “steelo” is after all this time, but I didn’t realise I was staring at a part of Ore ga Ichiro until I saw it in context. Also, it was kinda derpy – but still really in character – for Ichiro to run to his destination with his arms up like the Glico man in Osaka (except he had his head down).
I get a weird feeling the subbers may have used the wiki translation because I’m using it as a reference and the language seems oddly similar for the most part…
The kick Ichiro does seems like it references the OP.
Notice the location is Nishiguchi Kouen…the West Gate Park. *raises eyebrows at the IWGP anime*
…oh! It occurred to me that the sign the BB do with their hands is…well, a lowercase B. (LOL, if you read my previous line funny, it rhymes.)
Gentaro doing the peace sign to his chest…that was random the first time, because it doesn’t seem in character, but then it does for Dice and possibly Ramuda, so Gentaro probably just chose to go along with it (“to add to his image as a rapper,” maybe…?).
Oh, Saburo has airpods in…those aren’t good for blocking sound, are they…?
Notice the owl on the…uh, café(?)…Ichiro goes to.
That one “holy shit!” made me laugh like a madman. Where it came from, I don’t know, but it was so random I had to laugh at it.
This makes me wonder…if you use a mic that’s different to your personal mic, does it produce the same speakers? No one’s ever addressed that before (much like how no one questions if magical girls always need the same transformation device – I wanted to make a plot on that someday, but I can’t seem to find a comprehensible way to pull it off…LOL, that reminds me, I even had a HypMic version of that featuring Samatoki at one point, but it probably makes even less sense than the standard one because it activates via physical contact. It’s notable – in my head – for Nemu’s version of the “power” being “Samatoki can’t swear, no matter how hard he tries”).
I’m pretty sure that round thing wasn’t part of Ichiro’s rings, ever. (…Unless that was the head of his spoon or something.)
…Microwave? (referring to the shot inside the hospital, which seems to be based off ARB)
The series normally transitions from BB -> MTC -> FP -> MTR, so it was interesting to see that shuffled up. Update: That’s if it has to have an order, but notably ARB breaks this standard a lot by assigning colours to each solo and then arranging interactions based on not repeating those colours (aside from the Sky High Tower event). With 4 things there are 4! = 24 possible combinations and 6! = 720 possible combinations if you count DH and BAT, so as we move forward with those 2 divisions...prepare for more shuffling.
…is Jiro gonna steal a ball? I thought it was just bikes anime characters stole. (LOL)
The mic changes the background, too, huh? Never expected that from more than the speakers.
…and of course, s*** explodes and the day is saved once again....by the Buster Bros!!! (LOL, but also *sigh*)
Hmm, so this anime’s real plotline probably involves this trio: Rex, Tom and Iris. They’re probably foreign in some way, judging by Tom and Rex. Maybe they’re aligned with a foreign government or something? Update: If you look at the credits, their full names seem to be Tom Whisper Weathercock, Iris Innocent Traiter (sic) (LOL) and…Taroumaru Rex…? (romanisations confirmed for all katakana)
Sadamezuka was voiced by the ubiquitous Kenjiro Tsuda.
It seems Cola Bintarou (aka Subaru Kimura) was on the case again today. He wrote the new song for BB, called RUN THIS CITY, along with Gesshoku Kaigi.
Of course, I’m going to keep this anime on my list...I’m just a bit worried about myself going forward, because I realised my ego got a bit inflated trying to defend the series from haters. I’ve never had a series where I’ve been a fan from the beginning that wasn’t already a known quantity for a while (Muhyo and Roji’s, Furuba). With Boueibu, I was discovering things alongside other people (or even later in a lot of cases) since it was anime-original.

The latest episode of the podcast is out! Although all the eps have built-in subtitles, I’ll now be sharing the videos with a transcription under the cut in case people live in areas where internet providers are pieces of shit.
HELLO Hello everyone, welcome to Royal Magic Academy Radio, a podcast about Wizardess Heart. I’m your host, Mari. It’s our 10th episode YAY!!!! Our next big milestone!!! It seems fitting we’re having a milestone when we’ve got a lot of cool stuff to discuss, so let’s get on with the show!
GAMING NEWS We got two new events this week. I was RIGHT, the next guy for the stories re-release event was Yukiya. The event’s called YukiyAmore and it’s a romance point slot. The stories being re-released are The Love Holiday, Flirting Time with Him, Flirting Time with Him and After, Heart-Pounding Moment in Bed, His Sweet n' Spicy Special Lesson, His Devilishly Sugary Kiss, and "Our Hands Stuck!" It’s running until June 8. The login bonus event, Detective Rex, also started. It’s going on until July 25 and the final prize is a CG so yay! That’s exciting. We also got a very interesting birthday event. Instead of a spin-off, we have a Randy-themed collection event! It’s called The Greatest Surprise -Randy’s Birthday- and I think it’s pretty cute! In addition to stories, we’re also getting CGs, one you can get with stars and the other is a ranking prize. But anyway, it’s going on until June 16, just as a heads up.
SPECULATION So, we’re definitely going to be getting the CG part of YukiyAmore fairly soon. And if we’re still going in order of sequels, after YukiyAmore, we should be getting Vincent. However, I’m not really sure if we will. Vincent’s fallen from the most popular list and with the Happy Party Trainwreck his sequel was, I don’t know if Solmare’s gonna let him have a re-release event so soon. I mean, I def think he’ll get one, but considering he’s not as loved as he used to be, I dunno if he’ll be next, even though if we’re going by sequel line-up, he should be. Also while we’re on the subject of the re-releases, since the story line-up is the same for Yukiya and Klaus, I’m going to guess we aren’t going to get reruns of The Love Holiday, Flirting Time With Him, Heart-Pounding Moment in Bed, His Sweet n’ Spicy Special Lesson, His Devilishly Sugary Kiss, or “Our Hands Stuck!” because we’re getting the content through the rerelease events. Then, of course, Rex’s login bonus is a pretty strong hint that his route will be next. And now we have the biggest speculative piece of them all: Randy’s birthday event. Amelia’s birthday event back in late October was a collection event, but I have to say, I don’t think any of us were expecting a love option to get one of these. To be honest, I’m wondering if this is more or less a test from Solmare to gauge how we’d feel about birthday collection events for other dudes. Randy’s the fandom darling and if we approve of this kind of birthday event for a favorite, then it more or less indicates we’d be down for this for other dudes. Or maybe even multiple. After all, Ninja Shadow does their birthday events where multiple dudes are featured. Maybe we’ll get that for Wizardess. However, this event has stirred up the fandom a bit.
WIZCOURSE You can’t have a Randy event without having wizcourse. I honest to God wish I were exaggerating, but it seems like every single time something with Randy happens, the fandom explodes. It happened with Bubbly Candy Randy, it happened with his sequel, and it’s happening now. So let’s chat. The fandom seems pretty mixed on this event. The main complaints boil down to:
Randy wasn’t given a spin-off like Klaus, Yukiya, and Elias. It’s even more unfair considering Klaus got a rerun AND a new spin-off.
One of Randy’s CGs is a ranking prize.
With the event stories, Randy essentially has to share his birthday with 6 other guys.
The items are ugly. Wig.
People who are content with the event generally agree on the following:
Randy’s getting a whole event to himself, and not many guys have gotten a collection event to themselves. Only Caesar had this. Nox didn’t play a huge part, or a part at all in some stories in Nightmare - The Phantom Thief, so that doesn’t count.
It’s something still pretty new, and people like the collection event format because it’s cheaper than a spin-off would have been or you know. They just like collection events.
They like the outfits and the aesthetic.
In my opinion, I’m totally fine with Randy getting a birthday collection event. I think the aesthetic is pretty good and I think it’s really cool Randy’s getting an event like this. Last time we had a Randy-themed event that wasn’t a route or sequel, it was a gold medal slot and a lot of people were angry because you had to whale to get those. To be honest, I think the collection event is great in part because it makes his birthday a lot more accessible. It’s true that you can buy stars, but for the most part, we’re getting a birthday for free. We don’t have to whale, we don’t have to use up all our Lune, or keys, or story tickets. I’ve gotten up to Azusa’s story in the event and they all balance the two guys well. No one is overshadowed. Randy isn’t overshadowed. Not to mention, as I said before, I think they might be testing us with this event and maybe in the future do this sort of thing for other guys. But I understand being upset because there’s no spin-off. Randy’s fans are incredibly passionate about him and I’m sure this feels like a blow to the head for them. And overall, as much as I love the idea of birthday collection events for love options, there’s really no way for anybody to win. If they did this with Klaus, the fandom would be outraged because Klaus gets a LOT of content. But with Randy, it’s a bummer he didn’t get a spin-off and if I’m being 100% honest, some of Randy’s fans have super high standards and always get upset when those lofty standards aren’t met. It’s not every Randy fan, of course, but let’s be real, when people are upset they get loud, and loud people are the most visible in fandoms, so even if it’s not the majority of Randy fans, it ultimately looks like it is. And of course, that sends the message to Solmare that we don’t like these events and no other dude is gonna have a chance at a birthday event like this. Although tbh, the only dudes I think could pull the collection event off are Yukiya and maybe Hiro, since they’re very beloved. But Yukiya’s birthday passed and Hiro’s isn't until like. November? Either way, this whole situation is hella messy and it sucks. We should all be happy and celebrating Randy’s birthday together, but this event’s unfortunately really stirred the pot.
DARLING OF THE MONTH But onto something happier: Darling of the Month! To be honest, I was very conflicted on who to make this month’s darling. Originally, I had planned for someone else, but then a week ago I remembered it’s Pride Month. And then once I remembered that, I had to decide between Amelia or Scarlett and that was an incredibly hard choice. But after a lot of thought, I’ve decided on one. So, this month’s Darling of the Month is Amelia Nile!
Amelia is just. Absolute bae. She’s so sweet and kind, and is honestly the best friend we all deserve. She’s funny, helpful, and so so so so generous. Amelia is honestly one of my favorite characters in Wizardess and I’m so happy our LGBT rep in the game is with such a wonderful person. Congratulations Amelia, you absolute Bicon.
CONCLUSION I knew I was gonna have a lot to talk about today, but this ended up being more than I originally anticipated. This was honestly an interesting week in the fandom, but hopefully next week, things quiet down. Let’s all just take a deep breath and keep moving forward. Next week, I’ll be coming back with a theory and I’ll be talking about Amelia’s spin-offs, since she doesn’t have a route for me to review. Thank you to everyone listening for reaching this milestone with me! I’ve been so busy that I haven’t been able to put anything special together for this and our past milestone, but I’m planning to do a special episode for our 15th episode. I’m still working on the details for that, though, so stay tuned for it. And that’ll do it for us this week! This is Mari, signing off.

so hey.......y’all remember when i said that sometimes, just for fun and the hell of it, i make lists of “endgame” ships in my fandoms? bc yeah, that’s a thing that i do sometimes. XD
having now finished kh3, i’ve finally finished my endgame ship list for kh, and i figured that it might be a fun thing to share!
the actual list i’m gonna put behind a cut, bc it’ll be hella long (bc seriously.....i put about 95% of the characters into ships, and this includes all of the humanoid-ish disney characters too (barring most of the villains, bc....well, those characters are dead)), but before that, i’ll give you some....idk, context behind this list.
keep in mind, this entire affair is just like........gonna involve a fuck-ton of indulgence on my part. and most of this is fairly light-hearted. most importantly of all, this is pretty much a self-challenge: i paired up the majority of the characters just to see if i could, with the additional challenge that i could only pair them with characters that actually, canonically, have appeared in kh (this means that i couldn’t substitute in other final fantasy or disney characters); i did this to see how creative i could get with my ships, really.
idk if i’ll ever actually get around to writing fanfic for this verse (tho i do have a lot of headcanons, and i’ve actually put (probably far too much) thought into how i think these ships would work/come about, and my long-suffering friend Ip, bless her, has been an incredibly good sport about being a sounding board for all this), but i tend to refer to it as my “Healing Vision”, and it’s basically a post-kh3 AU, that presumes that everyone but xehanort (and also eraqus) got to live happily ever after. and this verse is so named bc, apart from everyone being able to heal and be happy after the traumatic canon, i also wanted to do my absolute best to put them in.....idk, healthy ships, and not ones that i think would be more toxic. everyone had redemption arcs, is what i’m saying (even if they never did or would have gotten them in canon).
y’all don’t understand, at this point i probably have over a hundred pages in various word docs of notes about this verse, so please feel free to ask if you want to hear more about it, i need validation of my madness---
anyway, here we go!
just so that there isn’t just a massive wall of text, i’m gonna break this up into roughly 2 sections: square/original kh characters, and then the rest of the disney characters.
Square/original KH characters:
Olette/Xion/Namine/Sora/Riku [OXN, SoNami, & SoRiku], Shiki/Kairi/Selphie, Axel/Saix, Hayner/Roxas, Terra/Cinderella, Aqua/Larxene/Yuffie, Repliku/Vanitas, Ven/Beat [more friends w/ benefits], Xigbar/Luxord, Aeleus/Even, Ienzo/Demyx, Sora’s Mom/Dilan, (Cinderella’s) Prince Charming/Marluxia, Geppetto/Ansem, Tidus/Wakka, Zack/Cloud/Leon, Aerith/Tifa, Cid/Auron, Fuu/Tinker Bell, Seifer/Rai, Jack Sparrow/Setzer, Boo/Vivi [platonic], Rikku/Paine, Yuna/Elsa, Neku/Joshua, Rhyme/Snow White, Hiro/Pence, & Eraqus/Xehanort [together in death]
i have no idea what’s going on with the khux characters going forward, and atm they don’t really have anything to do this AU, but assuming they’re alive and they’re all their own characters, at least for the time being, those ships would be: Skuld/Strelitzia, Ava/Ephemer, Invi/Ira/Aced, Gula/Brain, and Sephiroth/Master of Masters (but again, these are more tentative, and i don’t actually care about these characters, really)
Disney characters:
(again, keep in mind that these are only the humanoid or really anthropomorphic characters; ones that are straight up animals, like simba for example, were not included)
Mickey/Minnie/Daisy/Donald/Goofy [M/M, D/D, MinDaisy, & qpt Donald/Goofy], Horace Horsecollar/Pete, Clarabelle Cow/Clara Cluck, Hercules/Meg, Tarzan/Jane, Aladdin/Jasmine, Ariel/Eric, Belle/Beast, Lumiere/Cogsworth, Will/Elizabeth, Quasimodo/Phoebus/Esmeralda, Kristoff/Anna/Rapunzel/Eugene, Maleficent/Aurora/Mulan/Shang/Phillip [Malora, Philora, Mulora, Mulan/Shang, Phillip/Shang], Alice/Wendy, Peter/Wendy [qpt], Peter/Tinker Bell [qpt], (BatB) Chip/Pinocchio, Anastasia/Chien Po, Yao/Prince (from Snow White), Ling/Drizella, Merlin/Yen Sid, Hades/Genie, Mrs. Potts/Flora, Merryweather/Triton, Hook/Smee, Doc/Grumpy, Blue Fairy/Dopey, Fairy Godmother/Happy, Fauna/Bashful, Slightly/Cubby [platonic], Calypso/Barbossa, Sam Flynn/Quorra, Queen of Hearts/Agrabah Merchant, (BatB) Wardrobe/Gibbs, Emperor/Sleepy [his cuddle-cubine, if you will], Grand Duke/Sneezy, Mike/Sulley, Woody/Buzz, Honey Lemon/Go Go, Wasabi/Fred, Baymax/Tron/Baymax, & Phil/Zeus
Assorted Notes:
- should probably mention that all the worlds are just vaguely All Connected Now
- ven and hercules dated in bbs (then the Plot happened, ven pretty much vanished, and eventually herc moved on. they’re a bit awkward with each other now, but they agreed it’d be too weird to even attempt to date now, bc herc outgrew ven while he was in a magic coma)
- zack’s alive bc they forced hades to resurrect him like he did with auron (my hc is that the deal he made with cloud in kh1 was to bring zack back to life, but hades reneged on this; when cloud finally shared this info with sora, a Quest was undertaken to get hades to honor the deal)
- repliku’s name in this verse is Kiru (he decided to go along with the Theme, minus the sigil); sora’s mom is named Hikari; and i’m going with henry and florian for the real names of prince charming and snow’s prince, respectively (marluxia will probably still call henry “charming” as a sort of affectionate and kind of joking nickname (bc in this verse, henry is the definition of a Disaster Gay))
- goofy and pete dated in the past, but broke up with goofy came out as aroace; pete’s still kinda bitter about it
- aqua/larxene/yuffie is 100% a thing bc i feel that aqua deserves to be able to have fun and not be the responsible mom friend for once; aqua and cinderella also have some playful flirting, but it’s never really serious
- terra’s getting a staycation with his girlfriend, and aqua’s getting a vacation with her girlfriends
- olette/xion/namine/sora/riku is Peak indulgence for me; i love namixiolette, sonami, and soriku too much to want to choose between them? fuck it, they’re all smushed together in a poly pile now. this is my indulgence fic, i can do what i want, and none of you can stop me XP (the other sub-ship combos, riku with any of the girls, and sora with the other two girls, are more queerplatonic, ftr)
- there’s like a whole soap opera behind mickey/minnie/daisy/donald/goofy coming to their current arrangement, mostly bc the idea of giving all the Drama to these characters in particular amuses me; same with past goofy/pete
- a recurring Theme in this verse is that compulsory heterosexuality is the true darkness, and pretty much no one is straight (and so, light = gay) (this is how the final confrontation in kh3 truly went down: sora: kingdom hearts, is gay! / xehanort: shit...u right, bro. kk, lemme just fade into the light of gay with my bf then)
- sephiroth in this verse is mostly just a vehicle for me to be able to mildly punish terrible lightside mentors, so this ship with the MoM is kinda a cracky spite ship (before kh3 went all in on xehaqus, this was eraqus’s original fate XD)
- i will admit, gula/brain is mostly just me going, “you both really annoy me, and i don’t care to find you better ships, so you two can deserve each other”; to be fair to myself, this attitude was on the rarer side during this process
- hiro totally builds a robot body for tron to use to visit the outside world, tho he still chooses to live in the computer most of the time; tron’s besties with baymax 1 & 2
- i’ll be honest: scrooge, huey, dewey, louie, chip, dale, and possibly jiminy, by my rules, should have been put into ships. they’re not bc i couldn’t find any that worked for me *shrugs*
- phil is more like zeus’s on and off again boyfriend; he’s really fucking annoyed that he keeps having to train a lot of zeus’s offspring, and that he kinda, in a way, ends up doing more parenting for them than zeus does; currently phil is kinda claiming herc away from zeus (”i’m his dad now, so there”) (so at this point, their relationship is more of a hatemance than anything else) (i guess in my hc, zeus skews more towards being like his myth self than the disney version)
- the total number of ships, if you’re curious, is 75
- i’ve actually got queer headcanons for the square characters (excluding the khux squad), and some of the disney characters, figured out (as an example, namine is a demiromantic asexual)
okay, i think i’ll stop here for now, tho of course i might tweak or add things later XD

The Redhead and the Pirate Queen - Chapter 6
They’re back to not talking to each other, just like when the ship set sail. Merida hates it. Elsa avoids her like the plague now, only talking to her when there’s absolutely no other way.
Merida is fine with it. Or at least, that’s what she tells herself. She isn’t going to be the first one to try and engage in conversation again. If Elsa doesn’t want her around, she’ll give her exactly that what she wishes for.
She uses the time she has for herself to spend more time with the crew. Hiccup proves himself to be a great friend, and Tadashi and Hiro are pretty cool too. Hiccup wasn’t kidding when he said he’d find a great crew; Wiesel was the only person to think about mutiny, the rest are loyal and friendly. As friendly as pirates can possibly be, that is.
Elsa is still on the back of Merida’s mind, though. No matter how hard she tries, she can’t forget about the blonde pirate. She finds herself hoping Elsa will just take the initiative and talk to her again. Which doesn’t seem to be happening any time soon, but they’re still on this ship together, with that deal they made some time ago, and Elsa can’’t avoid her forever. Merida is tired of making amends all the time and swore to herself to stubbornly wait for Elsa to make things right this time.
The only thing that really clears her mind of the Captain, is dinner time. She eats with the crew, laughs with them. Elsa is never there, probably eats alone (it doesn’t surprise Merida at all). The food isn’t anything to write home about, but it’s good enough. Cook does her job and makes edible meals out of food that looks like something her mother would’ve had the servants throw in the trash weeks ago.
She watches as Hiccup pours her a bowl of hot soup.
“There ya go.” He says with a smile.
Merida gratefully accepts the soup. It still surprises her that the food is so different from what she got at home, much simpler. She loves it that way. Learning to eat it wasn’t difficult at all.
Not that she wouldn’t eat it if she didn’t like it. She wouldn’t get anything else and she’s seen how Cook looks at the people who think the food is disgusting. Hiro claims that Cook can kill grown men with a mere teaspoon, and while she doubts his credibility, she is not going to test it.
So she spends another evening laughing and talking with the crew. Also drinking. Pirates really do have the best rum, and she’s happy she’s good at handling alcohol. It takes a lot to get her drunk, a skill that comes in handy in this kind of life.
After two bowls of soup and three glasses of rum, Hiccup gently reminds her that it is her turn to help Cook with the dishes, wearing a smug grin; He had to help yesterday, now he watches how Merida suffers.
Doing dishes isn’t that horrible. Cook is an excellent conversation partner (Certainly better than a pirate captain she knows).
Merida has decided that she likes Cook. Heck, she likes everyone. Elsa too, even if the woman is a damn idiot.
A sexy idiot, that is.
Fuck. This is exactly what she did not want. She’s falling for a pirate, the coldest one, one who might not even like her… at all. She should want to kill pirates, not kiss them, dammit.
As if reading Merida’s thoughts, Cook steers their conversation to another subject: Captain Elsa Arens.
“Do me a favour, Merida.” Cook points at a bowl of soup on the table with the spoon she’s washing. “Bring that to the captain when you’re finished, will you?”
Merida nods, putting a now dry glass down. “She hasn’t eaten yet?”
Cook focuses on her dishes again. “See, the captain eats only when she tells me to make her something, and it’s been two days. Girl’s got to eat something, right?”
Two days. Two fucking days. Elsa, what the hell is wrong with you?
Merida contemplates it. Part of her wants to say no, wants to let Elsa take care of this herself. It’s a weak attempt to keep her promise to herself. She goes over the list of character traits and other things she has mentally noted, and asks herself: ‘Would Elsa overwork herself so much that she forgets about eating?’
The conclusion she reaches is: Yes. Yeah, she goddamn would. She doesn’t know if that realization or the fact that she’s most definitely going to break her vow to herself frustrates her more.
“Sure, I’ll do it. No problemo, Cook!” She throws the towel down to get the soup, but Cook pulls her back. “No way in hell, young lady. Dishes first!”
Well, it almost worked.
She can’t just let Elsa starve, she decides. She cares about the girl more than she probably should, and if she has to move mountains to get Elsa to eat, then that’s what she’ll do
——————
Don’t fall asleep. Don’t dare to fucking fall asleep.
Elsa rubs her eyes. She’s tired, exhausted, but the guaranteed nightmares are enough to keep her awake. She’s good at avoiding, does it all the time. She can’t avoid sleeping forever, she’ll sleep eventually, but not now. Now is not the time.
Speaking of time, she doesn’t even have enough of that to sleep. She has the book, that little book on magic she got when she involuntarily stayed at Motunui. It has to be translated. She needs to figure out everything, to find out what’s happening to her, to find out more about the hypnosis she suspects Hans is using. It can’t wait. Sleep is less important than the mess that is this book and its content.
The translation has proven to be difficult. With nothing but Chief Moana’s notes on the language to aid her in her work and the issue of the Tokelauan language being an absolute mess, the task is time-consuming and incredibly frustrating.
She is rudely awakened from her semi-asleep state by someone swinging the door open. She panics a little when she sees all the red hair. She is so not ready for this confrontation, no matter what it’s going to be about.
Merida marches in and sets a bowl of soup down on the desk, almost spilling a little on her carefully translated documents.
“Merida, what are you doing?” She asks, more confused than annoyed, while trying to collect her papers in a calm, non-suspicious way.
The expression on Merida’s face is mix of anger and concern. “Cook told me you haven’t eaten anything in two days.”
Oh. She forgot again. She doesn’t know how to explain to Merida that she doesn’t need the food, that if she forgot, she probably just wasn’t hungry and that she doesn’t even have time to eat, she has to get her work done.
Apparently she’s taking too long to answer, because Merida feels the need to explain what’s happening.
“This is soup. It’s something you can eat. And you are going to eat it, that’s for sure.” Merida pulls the familiar chair up again to sit down, which is strangely comforting.
Elsa is about to just get over with it and eat to get Merida out of here fast, when she remembers she’s the captain of the ship. She’s not going to be bossed around by a random hot girl, and wait, what was that adjective? Oh god, this isn’t happening. The lack of sleep must be getting to her.
“As captain, I refuse your offer.” She slowly states, reaching out to grab her quill pen to start writing again.
Merida literally slaps it out of her hand, with just enough carefulness to not injure her. “As someone who cares about the captain’s health, I demand you accept my offer.”
She cares. Why does Merida still care about her? Elsa can’t say she’s treated the other girl with a lot of kindness the last few days. And why is she so glad that Merida doesn’t hate her after all?
“I’m going to sit here until you eat. I have time, I can do this all night, every night.” Merida crosses her arms, still staring at Elsa with that mixed look.
Merida isn’t going to let this go, not today. Elsa can feel it. So she yields and tells herself it’s because she wants the redhead to leave quickly and that it’s definitely not because Merida saying that she cares made her feel a little better.
“Fine, I’ll eat. Only because you asked so politely.”
Merida’s face lights up, not even bothering to comment on Elsa’s last sassy remark.
The soup does taste good, especially after two days of nothing at all. Merida keeps watching, making sure she does eat everything.
“Are you happy now?” Elsa shoves the empty bowl off of her paperwork.
“Very.” Merida picks up the bowl and gets ready to leave, when she suddenly gets an idea. “By the way, we’re gonna do this every night.”
“What?”
“You heard me. I’ll eat with you instead of with the crew.”
“…Why would you want that?”
“I don’t want you to die because of your ridiculous stupidity.” Merida opens the door, but Elsa walks up to her and stops her. She needs an answer.
“You know, I don’t understand you either! I keep pushing you away, but no matter what I do, you come back. Why are you still trying to get close to me? Why can’t you just hate me already?”
Merida closes the door again, realizing the conversation isn’t over yet. “Why would I hate you?”
Damn it. She’s revealing too much. “…Because I’m a pirate…”
liar. It’s because you’re a monster.
“Do you want me to hate you?” Merida asks slowly, as if she’s trying to solve a challenging puzzle.
“Yeah. Yes. Well, no, not really, no.” Elsa doesn’t know what she wants anymore.
“Can you explain that?” Elsa sees that Merida tries to be careful with what she says, probably hoping to steer clear of another fight. There’s not a high chance of more fighting; Elsa is too tired to try.
“I… I hurt… everyone.” She manages to choke out. It’s not even a lie; it’s part of why Merida should stay away, though it’s not the main one. The magic. The magic can hurt her. Elsa can hurt her. “My parents died becauae of me. Anna and Kristoff… I don’t even know, but whatever they’re going through, it’s my fault. Hiccup losing his leg was my fault.”
It’s the truth, nothing bit the truth, and yet, it’s still.a lie.
“Is that why I shouldn’t get close to you?”
“It’s why you should stay the hell away from me. For your own good.”
Merida is radiating conflicted feelings; if Elsa had to guess, she’d say that Merida’s thought process is a mix of 'I sort of understand but I think it’s ridiculous and I’m not sure if I can handle you and all your goddamn complications’. But of course, that’s just a thought.
“Listen… I want to make another deal with you.”
Elsa finds herself nodding. This is business. She can talk business.
“You stop shutting me out, or at least try to, and I promise you I won’t let you hurt me, while I doubt that’s a thing that could happen. Deal?”
Oh, you wouldn’t know how badly I’ll hurt you. I’ll break your heart into a thousand pieces and tear you apart with cursed snow and ice. It’ll hurt me more than you can imagine, it’ll destroy both of us. It’s what I do. It’s what monsters do.
Elsa doesn’t speak that scarily disturbing thought out loud. She knows she needs to refuse this, needs to make Merida just go away, away from her, so she can’t be hurt in any fucked up way. But she knows it won’t lead anywhere. Merida is too stubborn and reckless to know what’s good for herself and she won’t leave Elsa alone, she’s proven that. She’s not leaving. She has to leave, but she doesn’t. Because she cares.
And secretly, Elsa is extremely happy she does.
“Deal.” With that one word, she seals both of their fates. There is no way back.
Merida pulls Elsa into a hug. “Awesome! Thanks! Oh, wait…” She quickly releases the pirate, blushing slightly.
Elsa wants to yell at her for touching her and risking getting hurt by cruel ice, but it would reveal everything. She goes with her other option: be nice and say you don’t mind. “Oh, uh, doesn’t matter. It’s fine.” Again, only half of a lie. Hugs are nice, she likes hugs.
“Yeah, still a little… embarassing…. I’ll just… leave… as in, right now.” Merida practically runs put of the cabin, while Elsa watches with a tiny smile tugging at her lips.
The paperwork can wait; maybe it’s time to get some sleep.

My top 25 NaLu moments! (Part 2)
Okay, let’s continue this! Here’s part two for my favorite NaLu moments. Part 1 can be found here, if you’re interested in seeing the numbers 25 through 16. Now let’s move on to 15 through 6 (yes, I decided to extend it, it’d just get too big). Thanks a lot to everyone who read this, I love y’all. Also, once again, there are spoilers here for the current arc. If you haven’t caught up to it yet, it’s best if you don’t read this. Also, sorry for any grammar mistakes.
Part 3 is here.
15. “To protect our future” (ch. 317).
Tumblr media
There are two Lucys here in this moment, and they’re both with a loving look in their eyes and a soft blush because of Natsu. If that doesn’t say something about NaLu, then... Anyways, this is a fan-favorite moment, even some of those who don’t ship it thought this moment was really sweet. Because it’s one of the sweetest, most pure moments in the entire series. As you can probably tell from the previous list, I love Natsu comforting Lucy; I love this moment here even more because it’s the first time (as far as I remember) that we see him comforting her physically and intimately. Natsu was so, so, so sweet to not have a single doubt about what F!Lucy said, simply for the fact that she was Lucy. And when he realized she was in a hard moment, he bent down and pressed his forehead tenderly against hers, reassuring her that they’d be able to stop that future from happening. Many people say this moment was sweet, but isn’t special because Natsu and Erza also had a moment like this (which was very sweet as well), but I don’t care, because Natsu’s the one who initiates the contact here. He’s even craddling her head to bring her close to him, which I thought was adorable. And this must’ve brought so much relief/pain to Future Lucy’s heart, because she lost her Natsu, and then there he was, her source of comfort, giving her hope. Bonus special here, our present Lucy watching the scene and blushing because she’s overwhelmed by how sweet Natsu is to her.
14. “You sure know how to make a girl worry” (ch. 507).

I know many people were disappointed when this chapter came out, because many expected Lucy and Juvia to be the ones to stop Natsu and Gray instead of Erza, but I was one of the few that actually liked how Mashima handled things that chapter. Erza’s a sisterly figure to Natsu and Gray, and it was nice to see her stop them, to then Lucy and Juvia show up and give support to her boys (I thought it was a nice change from friendship to romance, Erza and then the girls). And man, was it amazing to see Natsu falling to the ground and then Lucy catching him, with her arms around him and (most likely) crying out of relief. And then he breathes in “Lucy...”, he must’ve been so relieved as well. He thought she had died, and then there she was, right behind him, holding onto him, safe and breathing and alive. That was a beautiful scene, with the classic back-hug NaLu moment, and it’s also really nice that even after he passes out, Lucy’s still holding him and even carries him back to where Porlyusica is.
13. “Beautiful” (omake 182.5).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
C’mon. I mean, COME ON! Natsu gave Lucy a freaking tree as a present, just because she was sick and couldn’t see it for herself (kudos to Happy too because he probably helped Natsu by cheering him on). I mean, that’s just too much love, man. I don’t know if NaLu will be canon confirmed, but I’ll say this: it’s my headcanon that this was the moment Lucy realized she was in love with Natsu. I mean, that’s the kind of thing boyfriends do for their girls, and you can see just how amazed she is, especially when she finds out what her boys did for her (tho she probably already knew). And Natsu, my boy, being a tsundere and being afraid to get caught... so cute... but really, this was a beautiful gesture. The anime adds a special touch to this, where they show Natsu feeling really bummed at the festival because Lucy couldn’t be there with them. It’s a beautiful episode, and this is a beautiful omake, and it’s really romantic, in my opinion.
12. Lucy gives Natsu body warmth (ch. 514).
Tumblr media
Call it fanservice, call it Hiro Mashima being a pervert, I don’t care; to me, it’s Lucy and Happy doing everything they can to save Natsu, and in Lucy’s case, putting aside her shame of being naked to help the man she cares so much about. And the way it’s drawn, it’s just so beautiful, and soft, and pure tho after the 3rd time looking at this it looks like they just finished doing the deed, and it’s a panel that’s just there, it’s not a huge part of the chapter, but it’s there, and it had most of NaLu fans on tumblr freaking out because that’s how amazing this panel is. But really, the meaning behind of this is what makes this moment so special to me, and why it’s placed on this position in the list. Lucy constantly slaps/kicks Natsu because he gropes her, or because he breaks into her house, or because he’s acting stupid, but in the end, it’s Natsu. She’d do anything for him, even if it embarrasses her. That’s how much she loves him, no matter if you see it platonically or romantically.
11. “I said stop it!” (ch. 17).
Tumblr media
Here you have one of the oldest NaLu moments ever, which is also their first back-hug. It’s not really a special moment if you look at the meaning, or at the panel itself. But guess what, it’s what got me shipping them. Seriously, I didn’t ship it from the start. I watched them interact, and thought they were funny together, but that was it. And then this moment in special came, and I was like “oh” for a few seconds, and then Natsu looks back at Lucy with a weird look on his face, and she’s kind of blushing asking “what”. And I was like, “Ooooh, there’s something here, isn’t there. This is totally gonna be a thing; I’m so going to ship this”. I wasn’t a part of the FT fandom back then, so I didn’t know if NaLu was a popular ship or if it was just me who thought they worked nicely, so I was pleasantly surprised when I realized there were over 40k people who shipped these two, like I did. This scene is what actually started this ship for me, so that’s why it’s here.
10. “This I promise you” (ch. 425).
Tumblr media
From here on, in this list, things stop being carefree and funny, and we go down to a path of pure angst, because apparently I’m a masochist. On this moment here, we have one of the best NaLu panels ever, because holy shit, this is a heavenly art right there; I love it so much, I use it in almost every manga edit I make. As we all know, Natsu and Lucy’s relationship was a bit weird after the 1 year timeskip, with Lucy trying really hard to be okay, but part of her was still wounded because Natsu left without her; just as Natsu was trying really hard to make up for what happened, and to repair their relationship. Not too long before this moment, Lucy said something about people who get left behind felt really abandoned, and Natsu simply looked at her, knowing she wasn’t okay. In the following chapter, we had them going to look for Gray together, and suddenly Natsu turns to Lucy, pulls her really close, looks her in the eye and promises he’ll bring Gray back; which in my opinion, was his way to say he’d fix everything, he just needed her to trust him that he could do it. And Lucy’s a celestial wizard, so she values promises a lot, and that’s why Natsu has her so close to him. It’s a really bittersweet moment, but beautiful nonetheless, because let’s face, we all love seeing those two with their faces super-close, it just makes you wanna push those two together. But really, I thought Mashima captured really well in this moment how they were both struggling with everything that had happened and was happening.
9. Natsu’s reaction to Future Lucy’s death (ch. 324/325).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I told you it was about to get angsty. Heartbreaking as Future Lucy’s death was, what actually broke my heart was everyone’s reactions to it, especially Happy’s (*sobs eternally*) and Natsu’s. I mean, Natsu literally watched his best friend, his partner, a woman who’d already suffered so much and was trying to save everybody, die. And worse, she died protecting the Lucy from the present, the one Natsu couldn’t protect; this fact here is just heartbreaking. And the guild-mark scene... man, that was just a low blow. He acted so “yeah I don’t care” when she showed him her guild mark, and then we see this moment, and he’s remembering it, and we realize he actually was paying attention to her. And when Future Rogue attempts to kill Lucy again, Natsu just snaps. Ain’t no way he’s gonna let that happen, not after this, not EVER again. He swears there that he won’t let anyone steal Lucy’s future. That he’ll protect it and he’ll protect her. And the line “you took away something precious to me right before my eyes” just adds more pain to the heart, because this is Natsu saying loud and clear, while in tears, that Lucy is someone precious to him. Because like Happy said, no matter where she is from, Lucy is Lucy, his friend and he loves her. I’m sure it’s the same thing for Natsu.
8. Natsu thinks Lucy’s dead (ch. 504).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look... *breathes in* I don’t care if he’s never said it out loud... Natsu loves Lucy, okay. She is SO special to him, and we all know that the future he was talking about in the previous chapters, he wanted her to be in it, whether as just a friend or as something else. And at this moment right here, right before he snaps and kind of becomes E.N.D., he believes that that future got taken away from him. He went berserk with Future Lucy’s death, imagine how he felt when it was his actual Lucy who “died”. That drove him so mad, so heartbroken, to the point where he lost it, and started the E.N.D. transformation. And the second panel of this is just f*cking rude, look at him craddling her body, pressing her forehead to his, trying to get her to wake up, with tears running from his eyes. If you pay enough attention, you’ll see that he’s shaking. These two really deserve a happy ending after all this, you know...
7. “I’m going to protect Natsu no matter what the cost” (ch. 501).
Tumblr media
I know many people have complained about this last arc; indeed, it’s not a perfect arc, it has flaws, but we have to admit something: it’s been a really kind arc to the NaLu ship so far. As someone who loves seeing girls promising to protect the boys they love, I almost had a heart attack reading this chapter. My girl Lucy was such a badass fighting Brandish, even though she knew Brandish was stronger than her, she still tried and threw her everything, because she was willing to do anything to protect Natsu. She didn’t even want to fight Brandish, but this is how far Lucy’s come; this is how far the NaLu ship has come. Lucy doesn’t care how, but she has to win this, because if she does win, Brandish said she’d heal Natsu. Lucy doesn’t care what happens to her, as long as Natsu’s safe *cowers in a corner in fetal position and cries*.
6. "Let’s continue our adventure” (ch. 337).
Tumblr media
*puts sad OST to play while writing this* Fairy Tail, the eternal adventure of Natsu Dragneel, Lucy Heartfilia and Happy... like I mentioned before, Future Lucy’s death was heartbreaking. Despite this, what brought me just as much tears, was her reunion with the family she grew to love and lost. And who’s there to take her hand and take her to their eternal adventure, of course it’s Natsu, the one who introduced her to everything, the man who changed her life and gave her a home and family. Keep in mind, this was Future Lucy finding peace. This was her heaven. All she wanted was to see everyone again, and she did, and just like in the beginning, Natsu’s the one to pull her along and bring her to an adventure. After so many sadness and hurt, Lucy could finally be with the ones she loved again. And while this is more of a Lucy moment, it’s still heavily NaLu, because like I said, this is her heaven, and Natsu’s the one who brings her to it.
