成语故事 – 守株待兔

In honor of the 兔年 (Year of the Bun Bun), today I read a 成语 (chéngyǔ) idiom story and it was actually right at my level! Thought I would take some vocab notes. Full story below the cut!

故事：

春秋时期，宋国有一个农夫，他每天早出晚归，耕种着一小块田地，生活非常辛苦。

有一天中午，农夫干完活儿，坐在田埂上休息。正在这时，他突然看到一只野兔从旁边的草丛里蹿出来，他不知收到了什么惊吓，拼命向前跑着，一不小心，撞在田边的树桩上，不动了。

农夫急忙跑过去，发现野兔的脖子已经撞断了。农夫高兴极了，心想，“这回可是捡了个大便宜，没花一点儿力气就得到一只又肥又大的野兔，晚上可以吃到美味的兔肉了！”

于是，农夫连活儿也不干了，他把那只死兔子捡起来，乐滋滋地回家了。回到家里，农夫将兔子剥皮炖肉，美美地吃了一顿，还得到了一张兔皮。

这个意外的收获不禁使农夫想入非非。晚上，他躺在床上，心想，“要是以后每天都能捡到一只野兔，不就省得天天辛苦地种天劳动了吗？”

从那儿以后，农夫再也不肯下田干活儿了。他丢下锄头，整天坐在那截树桩前等着，看有没有野兔再跑过来撞死在树桩上。

一天，两天......一晃，一个多月过去了，再也没有野兔撞死在树桩前。可农夫的田里已经长满了野草，他的庄稼全完了。
