personal ramble but you know what? I think it’s an interesting decision whenever people characterize akiren as not feeling at all betrayed by what akechi does on November 20th.

did he see it coming? yes, of course, we know that! bad things happened regardless, and akechi played a major role in causing them.

sure, it makes sense that akiren still cares about akechi, and yes, it’s perfectly reasonable to think that he wants to redeem him before, during, and after everything goes down. but! the real fun of a situation like this is letting those feelings be messy! how do you sort through positive emotions surrounding someone who has hurt you unapologetically? how do you process hoping for the happiness of someone who doesn’t seem to know how to want it for himself?

I just think it’s more fun if he needs to grapple with that. akiren is a protagonist, not a saint. a huge part of his character arc is that he’s human underneath all those masks he wears. let him be conflicted, at least for a bit!

Bruce Yamada post revival!

Here’s the sweet and lovable baseball player!!! He enjoys baseball, and soft jazz!

I tried to make it seem like he’s thinking of spaced out because like canon Bruce has the most memory issues post revival, he has trouble remembering numbers, dates, faces, and sometimes names. It frustrates him, so to keep his mind busy he pops rubber bands on his wrist, and he writes in a memory book!

He’s still very sweet but I think dying put a damper on his personality, he’s spacey, aloof, and calm on most days and sometimes he’s cold, bitter, and mean on worse ones. Those are the days where he can barely remember he’s alive.

I tried to keep it similar to canon with him having his memory and own sense of self being altered because like all the others I think dying left a serious impact on his mental health and psyche.

One thing didn’t change though!! He’s a major nerd for baseball and is an absolute natural at it!

I do find the, well maybe not historical revisionism, but perhaps profoundly misremembering and or just changes in tastes that has gone down when it comes to Zevran and dragon age: origins to be quite interesting, like now that he’s very openly being compared to the newest hotness of Astarion, people talk about him as if he is/was the most popular because people love broody elves (even though Zev is the farthest from broody in his demeanor, and which kinda go hand in hand with people comparing him to Fenris, which isn’t new mind mind you, but it was fucking rare I saw anyone make that comparison 9 years ago) but I was there mind you, I was there 8-9 years ago. I remember clearly Zevran being the least popular romance option in origins when it came to the fandom.

Fenris and Astarion) #but like the only thing I’d say these three characters have in common is being elves and having a terrible and horribly abusive past #well Zevs is different because he had an fucking awful and still not distant child hood (both Fen and Astarion don’t recall theirs) #but I think what’s really the kicker is that despite all that Zev dosen’t really hate the world at large and Is still nice to people #like yes he lies and manipulates and definitely offers to sleep with the warden out of self perseverance to a degree #but like Zev cares so fucking much about other people that finding out he was tricked into killing Someone he loved #made him stright up suicidal #another interesting fandom shift is with how the fandom treats Blackwall (who I also adore he’s my canon romance for my inquisitor) #like he was also the least romanced character in inquisition and people were fucking nasty about him (and very ageist) #but these days he’s much more beloved and people can understand and see that his story is likely the most completed and interesting #our of the companions in that game #anyway I’ll stop my musings now I doubt anyone actually cares much about what I have to say about it

The idea that the characters will rise up and literally kill the author is one that I desperately hate for a few reasons.

1) Authors are not inherently evil. They’re storytellers who are often telling the story they wished to hear or read as children with characters they have put pieces of themselves into. They write the ink which dries but it is for them.

2) If there is a force which demands more suffering or more drama, it’s editors or publishers not authors. I know from personal experience all the stuff that’s hurt my characters has been exacerbated from the first draft because other people have enabled me to do so. My original ideas weren’t as traumatizing as what hits the page.

3) already you guys are forgetting what one of the central themes of this season is. The lack of agency. Pinocchio cannot do anything morally bad or he becomes a puppet, Rosamund is destined to sleep for a hundred years. Ylfa must always be eaten by the wolf, Gerard is always a frog. The horror this season is a lack of agency, even provided by Brennan himself in so much that the PCs choices have had very little bearing on the storyline so far imo. So I think we’ll finally see our characters take their stories into their own hands and drive them off the rails like so many authors like to joke about

And Finally?

4) The Itsy Bitsy Spider. If Brennan’s whole ethos this season was “needless suffering of fairytale characters is bad” then he would’ve had the itsy bitsy spider go into the book. But he doesn’t. And even before Ally shuts the book the spider is wary. Because he knows that he needs the rain for the sun to come again. He doesn’t want it to be all sunny all the time. Because yes suffering sucks, adversity sucks, but you can always overcome it. And if you constantly live in a world where it’s happily ever after all the time, you never grow nor do you appreciate the sunshine when it is all you see.

Anyway it’s not as black and white as other people are making it out to be and no it’s not capitalism.
