C'elen was shooketh
C'elen in bg3 story is a daughter of country side ex-noble family. so she's been pretty sheltered and taught how to be a lady. but when her parents went bankrupt, her father offed himself and her mother died of depression, she was left to fend for herself and lived alone for a while, learning how to use the axe to protect herself from wild animals or monsters. She lived beside a river and pretty much a tiny simple home, it was the only home left from her parent's riches.
So she haven't really met that much people nor mingle much and just bases off her knowledge from the romance novel books she read when she was younger, as well as her concept or romance and s-x from more adult oriented novels she read in secret and what her teachers taught her that such things was only to be done to the person you have been betrothed with.

so i was looking up datamined content from early access and wanted to rant and talk about some of the changes Ketheric and Shar His story was changed twice!in both ea version he was a moon elf chosen of shar(he had nothing to do with Myrkul),in the first version Halsin accidentally killed Isobel and that pushed ketheric to release the shadow curse, nightsong was an avatar of shar
Tumblr media
this is the original nightsong,a necromancer called "sevryn"(beta version of balthazar?!) had quest for the player to kill her with a dagger that absorbed her power, but if you saved her she could become a camp follower, here's some of her lines
"Shar is the Nightsinger, and I am her Nightsong." "I am her instrument, transforming the faithful into Shadows." "I drink their sorrow, their loss, their grief, then I vomit it back into the world." "I was captured, by Ketheric Thorm - Shar's chosen. He turned me into this creature." "I want to sing my own song, not Shar's, not Ketheric's!"
you can listen to her datamined voice lines here and here's a video about that version in the second version Ketheric turned away from Selûne when Isobel was still alive in that version it was Balthazar who killed isobel then framed Aylin as her murderer there was this isobel's line "I was dead, Aylin. For so long. It was Balthazar - he trapped my soul, he-" and Aylin's line "It is why I couldn't leave your body, even when they came. Balthazar and that Sharran witch told your father that I was to blame." and one Ketheric's line @ Aylin"You killed my daughter, then you stand before me and lie? I'll see you suffer tenfold what my Isobel did."(source) i think being recruitable kinda make sense for this version of Ketheric because he was being manipulated by Balthazar and Shar btw here's ketheric and isobel's datamined models(source)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so act 2 was all about the conflict between Selune and Shar and they just slapped myrkul in there last minute?! so Ketheric being a sharran and a chosen of absolute means shar was somehow supposed to involved with the absolute plot(that why shadowheart and her fellow sharran went and stole the artifact)
Daisy,The Urges,Orpheus and The Emperor Daisy was the early access version of dream visitor and every companion used to have their own unique daisy(everyone had the same dream except Astarion)"Down by The River"and"The Power"used to be about daisy there were "urges" in early access that wanted you to kill Daisy Orpheus was in the artefact but he wasn't chained up,he was supposed to be the one who helped you and shielded you from the absolute instead of the emperor. He probably had a way bigger role there is a misconception that original tav was meant to be a bhaalspawn which is straight up false, the dreams and the urges from early access only accrued if you used your illithid power (using them originally meant to have severe consequences) i know some people say daisy was supposed to be a manifestation of the tadpole that was trying to turn you and your party into mindflayers but i don't think it was ever confirmed what daisy or those urges were,i could be wrong but i remember it was datamined that both the Absolute and Orpheus used the Daisy persona...idk i know some people are gonna be like"dream guardian is better,Daisy was creepy/obviously evil"but Daisy only appeared if you used your illithid power, plus you could just reject them...or even kill them
as for the emperor,at first i thought he was just a replacement for Daisy and Orpheus but apparently no!i was watching Harbs Narbs talking about bg3's magic the gathering cards, when he saw the elder brain's card he said"could this be the emperor?"
Cazador and The Butcher …they basically cut everything...(source of datamined lines) so there was this character called "the Butcher"(who was one of the chosen/leader of absolute)who asked you to find his apprentice "Ohler" in Baldur's Gate's graveyard and bring him back a flask(?!),he was the leader of a skeleton faction(their faction was called TadpoledSkeleton)their concept art is still in bg3 artbook
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i'm guessing this butcher guy was supposed to be the original Armored male elf chosen of myrkul?!ohler was caught by an ancient and powerful vampire called"the alluring"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
you could side with the butcher and bring him back his flask, then he proposed to turn you into an undead, but if he allowed him to performe the ritual to turn you undead he also would try to make you his puppet. if you managed to break free of his control and you had to fight him. To kill him permanently you had to destroy his phylactery, otherwise he would resurrects every time. or you could side with Cazador,he wanted the butcher guy dead
Tumblr media Tumblr media
btw i was looking at bg3 art book pdf i found these on cazador's page
Tumblr media Tumblr media
is that what he originally was supposed to look like?!the scythe...ugh it looks so cool the other interesting thing is apparently other spawns were somehow okay/happy with their situation
Tumblr media
the other thing i wanted to mention is i think Cazador was originally supposed to be a half elf,the language Cazador uses is Kozakuran,The Kozakurans were a human ethnicity The Creche vs The Cult of the Absolute (source) there was supposed to be a fight between the absolute cultist(led by Orin and the butcher)vs the creche(and some sort of team up between lathander priests and githyanki)
Tumblr media
you could side with the absolute, they wanted to stop Kith'rak Voss from returning to Vlaakith, here's some of the butcher's lines
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and orin's
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and this orin badass moment,i'm still salty they cut this for the full release...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
or you could side with Voss and helped him escape(i suggest you watch the source video, there's so much more there)
some other stuff there was some datamined stuff bout the city here and here i don't get it...why did they change so many good stuff,Ethel's nephew and hag coven,Raphael's original deals,Zevlor plot twist and...are all gone at first i thought they"cut"those content due to time restriction or resource constraints but that's clearly not the case,There is a clear change in direction,i think what they were originally going for was"choosing the lesser of two evils"then they decided to go with more generic route of good vs evil! bg3 was released in August 2023,larian was looking for beta testers for Acts 2 & 3 in july 2022 idk maybe if they didn't rewrite the companions to be less mean/evil and didn't add halsin and dark urge they could have finish the game?!

Being evil in bg3 feels awful but not like undertale awful (where the game actively calls you, the player, a bad person and breathes life into the characters through doing this as well) it's more like you're consistently on the side of the mighty and powerful, and your enemies are people who need protecting, who need help.
Literally, like if you side with minthara and take the grove it's so obviously a bad thing. The majority of people are completely defenseless and barely a threat even at at a low level (I did the encounter at level 3).
Wyll, Karlach, and Halsin all LEAVE your party (rightfully so) and god forbid you try to play evil Durge too cus then Gale is gone from the jump.
Those who do stay all distrust minthara (again, rightfully so. Astarion definitely sees some of cazador in her because of the way she is.) except for maybe lae'zel?
I'm gonna be honest I only got stuff about lae'zel being horny about my evil character when I interacted with her.
The goblins also put up this organ-filled altar to the absolute and it's, well, filled with intestines and blood.
This sort of "victory" doesn't feel good, and that's because it just isn't. It tickles that part of the brain that says "hey woah WHAT THE FUCK" when you do the immoral things in a really effective way.
Idk man anyway I think that's really really cool of the people who wrote this game to have thought about the themes of each route so much.

what about the companion questions from the tav ask game, for mallory!!
eey thanks! (ask meme here for everyone else lost in the bg3 sauce)
for reference here's Mallory, looking very offended that the obviously hazardous rune had the audacity to zap him when he poked it
Tumblr media
he's a half-drow gold draconic sorcerer and as extra as that lineage would suggest. he's also got the urchin background, but he doesn't tell people that.
I also feel it's important to mention that he was the first character I created for my initial blind playthrough and by the time I realized that his backstory and personality had a similar vibe to Astarion it was too late. as a pc it works because he romanced Astarion and the two of them have a wonderful time being insufferable and flamboyant together and bonding over their similar trauma, but as a companion he'd feel a bit "why do we have this guy, there's already one of these but better". but for the moment we'll ignore that lol.
1. What would your Tav’s greetings be (at different levels of approval)
Negative:
"To what do I owe the pleasure?" (intensely sarcastic)
"Oh. It's you."
"I was just wishing someone would come over and bother me." (also sarcastic)
Neutral+:
"Can I help you?"
"A pleasure."
"Hello, darling."
High+:
"Everything all right?"
"You know, I actually enjoy these talks."
"I hope you're well, aside from... you know."
Flirting:
"Well, hello."
"My dear, you have my full attention."
"Oh, just here to talk? Pity."
Partnered:
"I'm here."
"Gods, what would I do without you?"
"Do you need something, love?"
Broken up:
"Darling! Whatever can I do for you?" (intensely sarcastic)
"Keep wandering over here and people will talk, you know."
"Straight to business, I suppose?"
"Hm, I liked you better when you were fawning over me."
2. Describe their tent setup! What’s on the outside? The inside? The inside would be cluttered but in a deliberate organized chaos kind of way, Mallory decidedly lives up to his dragon blood in that he collects shiny things and trinkets and has maximalist decorating tastes when he's able to. the outside would be comfortable but fairly unassuming and barren. The reason for this is not personal taste, it's so that anyone who might come along to burgle the camp will go for the externally fancy-looking tents first and leave his alone.
3. What would their character quest be titled? Why? oh god I'm so bad at titles, probably something gold-related or dragon-related. idk the writers are talented they'd come up with something snappy.
4. What would your Tav’s romance scenes look like? How many would they have? He would definitely be on the "bone first ask questions later" end of the companion spectrum and would probably come onto the player fairly early on. Mallory flirts with Everyone whether he's invested in following through or not and prior to The Tadpolening he'd been clawing his way up the ranks of the upper class mages in his home city via a carefully balanced combination of fucking and blackmail and it was a marked improvement on the situation he was in before that, so his perspective on both sex and relationships is not what you'd call rose-tinted. He'd be doing the same thing here, looking for leverage and a way to establish himself with the person who's taking charge of things. It would definitely be a fun romance in act one, very weighted toward the sex scenes and light banter, but he'd be deflecting any attempts to take things further emotionally or get him to open up (and might show a bit of a vicious streak if he's pushed too hard) until the latter two acts of the game, when you'd probably see more in the way of heart to heart conversations with him as he starts trusting the player. And that trust would mean a lot to him, considering all his prior "relationships" have been transactional at best and abusive at worst.
He'd also be among the companions who's fully down with you hooking up with Halsin, and would only complain if he never gets invited. He's not well suited to monogamy.
5. Describe their idle animations! Doing little tricks with conjured fire to entertain himself, straightening his clothes/hair a bit surreptitiously and/or being preoccupied with some dirt that's not coming out, maybe doing some stretches. Pacing because he's not very good at waiting around. admiring some bauble he found while out adventuring with you and trying to figure out where to put it. if companions autonomously interacted with each other he and Gale would be arguing about magic frequently.
6. How would the player go about meeting them in Act 1? What is their introduction? I feel like the player would probably find him standing in a ring of char not far from the crash, surrounded by several smoldering intellect devourers and looking like he was not at all planning to do any adventuring the day he got abducted. He'd be wary initially but would warm up very quickly once he realizes you're not also here to attack him and suggest sticking together until the whole situation gets resolved.
The first impression he tends to give off is "mildly snobby ivory tower mage who's never had to boil water before" but it's a very curated image that he designed to navigate a very specific environment and it starts to break down once you realize he can pick locks and has a lot of random mundane survival skills and will immediately adopt any orphan that stands still long enough if he's allowed to. he is very good at being a mage though, that part is accurate.
7. Describe their arc. How would a player help resolve it? What choices can be made? Can your Tav be turned down a dark path, or pulled to a lighter one? Mallory definitely has the potential to go to the dark side, one of the ways he's most similar to Astarion is that he fears/resents others having power over him and is willing to take dubious measures to make himself as untouchable as possible. He's also manipulative at times and the kind of person who fully believes he could outwit the devil (not without reason, but he's much less impervious to consequences than he thinks he is), and he's got a lot of pent up resentment and grief and anger he's never really dealt with, so it's entirely possible that he could end up in a very bad place (both for him and for everyone around him). I've thought about one unfortunate timeline that eventually ends with him becoming a devil himself, which ultimately just traps him in a worse version of everything he was trying to escape from as a mortal but gives him the illusion of power and control (so at least he can tell himself it was worth it, even knowing it wasn't).
If influenced away from that though, he's just as capable of turning all that toward improving things instead of tearing them down, and he does have a good heart when it comes down to it.
He's got a huge soft spot for kids and a strong drive to make sure as few as possible ever have the kind of childhood he did, so I could see his arc tying in with the tiefling babies and/or Yenna in some way.
It would also likely involve Darius, his abusive ex who "took him in" in his late teens when he was in a particularly bad spot, and who he didn't get away from until he was essentially bought by someone else (which is how he ended up in the social groups he did) for more gold than Darius felt keeping him was worth. There was never any real closure there prior to the events of the game but that guy honestly needs to die. whether things end well depends on what's motivating him by the end and how he gets there; this will either be a turning point where he'll realize he's better off helping people who need it than hurting people who deserve it, or he'll go full tumblr revolutionary and decide that killing Darius wasn't enough and the only way to fix anything is to burn it all down and start from the ground up so he can do things properly, collateral damage be damned.
8. After Act 3, what does their life look like? What are they talking about at the reunion party? Regardless of his ending he will have been continuing to develop his magic, guy was like two levels away from sprouting wings by max level and he's not gonna pass that up, plus he just enjoys it.
If he had a good ending he will 100% have adopted Yenna and/or a tiefling orphan or two, and has definitely been making a huge nuisance of himself to the city's patriars in an effort to help improve things in the lower city, to great success all things considered. Mallory is extremely good at making a nuisance of himself effectively. It will be pretty clear that he's doing a lot better mental health wise and takes a lot of pride in what he's doing.
If he had a bad ending... he will insist that all his power plays and growing spiderweb of faustian bargains and revenge plots are going fantastically, and he's doing great.
He is definitely not doing great.

okay so yes obviously i stayed up until 7am playing bg3
i recruited karlach, killed all the goblin leaders, went back to the grove, discovered my reward was something i had already looted (whoops lol), had a party, had wyll tell me if we were closer he would have come on to me?, got propositioned by astarion (said yes bc hey lae'zel specifically said this was only physical, and apparently nykki has a thing for dangerous and occasionally rude lovers idk) ("ani could you have even managed to play a character who turned astarion down?" shut up), got teased by shadowheart about it, had kind of an awkward tryst in the woods where i think even nykalaeni could tell something was weird, found an unexpected harpy's nest right outside the grove??? and a dead tiefling kid which isn't great, realized i forgot to find the infernal mechanic tiefling before they set off for baldur's gate, then warped to the goblin camp to get into the underdark and realized killing the leaders and the people in the room with the leaders is not actually the same thing as killing all the goblins and did okay but definitely had to immediately use up all my short rests in between rooms lmao, maybe recruited the owlbear cub??? to hang out at camp???, and went through priestess gut's rooms to the defiled temple and thence to the underdark
at one point when i switched lae'zel out of my party, the tadpole specimen she had switched to my tav, and in the middle of conversation i had a ???dream??? where my guardian was like EAT THE TADPOLE DO IT and nykalaeni was like. well what's one more gonna do? which nearly everyone hated but didn't seem to have any immediate negative effects.
(i did also at some point early in finishing off the goblin leaders have lae'zel show up to be like hey. you up. and nykalaeni had a good time being dommed by her hot gith friend to within an inch of her life. of course then lae'zel was like okay it's dawn time to get up and nykki was like. what. every single muscle in my body is aching and you want me to get up??? and lae'zel was like yeah dude it's dawn??? up and at em. this was great, maybe we'll do it again some time. PS this is absolutely just physical don't be weird. which i, the player, am very "uh huh" about, but which nykalaeni one hundred percent took at face value. this is her friend lae'zel, a sexy gith with whom she sometimes has sex, and this is her friend astarion, a sexy vampire with whom she sometimes has sex, and there is nothing more emotionally complex going on because surely they would tell her if that was the case!)
then, continuing her streak of being good at diplomacy but bad at interpersonal relationships, when we went back to camp nykki made a tasteless dirty joke about the scars on astarion's back and he was like that's not funny, which is pretty much par for the course. i think she's made a serious conversational misstep with everyone so far lmao
this characterization is a: funny and b: allows me to not be fucking insane about reloading and getting conversations "right"
(when i have to redo sections i'll usually still pick the "bad" dialogue options bc they're in character for nykalaeni. she's nosy! she thinks of it as normal curiosity but it comes off as weirdly pushy sometimes! and kind of judgy! she does not know how to be delicate in the course of a normal conversation! who's projecting it's called role-playing)
