Dinosaurs On A Spaceship - Doctor Who blog
(SPOILER WARNING: The following is an in-depth critical analysis. If you haven’t seen this episode yet, you may want to before reading this review)
Tumblr media
I’m sure most of you are aware by now that I really don’t like Chris Chibnall very much. He has yet to write a single good episode since he first joined the Doctor Who team. 42 was a cliched load of bollocks, The Hungry Earth/Cold Blood was an incompetent retread of the original and far superior Silurian story from the Jon Pertwee era, and the less said about his work on the god awful Torchwood, the better, Why the fuck he would be chosen to be the next showrunner, I don’t know. Frankly I’d rather see Tommy Wiseau take the helm over Chibnall. Based on his previous track record, putting Chris Chibnall in charge of Doctor Who would be the equivalent of hiring a cowboy builder to redecorate your front room.
So you can probably imagine my reaction at the time when I discovered that Steven Moffat was subjecting us to not one, but TWO Chris Chibnall stories this series. Oh joy-bunnies! What orgy of bullshit has Chibnall concocted for us this time?
Dinosaurs On A Spaceship is about as silly as you’d expect it to be. A spaceship full of dinosaurs is about collide with the Earth and the Doctor has to steer it away before the Indian Space Agency blows it out of the sky. To be fair, it’s not the worst thing Chibnall has ever written. In fact there were moments where I found the episode to be, dare I say, entertaining (Yeah! That’s a first for a Chibnall episode!). Though I imagine the kids will probably get more out of this than us cynical grownups will. They’ll be the ones getting excited about the pterodactyls chasing the Doctor, Rory and his dad while us adults will be questioning why the pterodactyls are chasing them when pterodactyls were supposed to be fish eaters. And while the kids are laughing at the Doctor’s hijinks with the triceratops, the adults will be the wondering how the Silurians are capable of things like spaceflight and teleports and artificial beaches when there has been nothing in the past to indicate that the Silurians were ever that technologically advanced (also why do they keep casting the same actors to play Silurians? They’re not clones). But hey ho. It’s dinosaurs. Everyone loves dinosaurs, right? Just go with it.
There are some things that I thought were genuinely good. The biggest gem of all is David Bradley as the villain Solomon. While the character is about as one dimensionally evil as you can get, it’s the performance that sells it. In the hands of a lesser actor, Solomon’s irredeemable sadism and malevolent speeches about profits and ownership of animals and people would have become grating, but Bradley manages to inject a lot of nuance into the part. While the character itself is about as complex and interesting as a pantomime villain, it’s David Bradley that makes Solomon come across like an actual human being, thus making him a more credible threat.
I also really liked Rory’s dad, played by Arthur Weasley from the Harry Potter movies (or Lister’s friend Peterson from Red Dwarf depending on your geek levels). Again, not a particularly interesting character. He’s basically every stereotypical, old fashioned, middle aged British dad you’ve ever seen (he even carries a trowel and a flask of tea around with him), but it’s Mark Williams’ performance that makes it work. He’s a very pleasant and charming character, I like his relationship with Rory a lot, and you can’t help but find the final scene of him looking at the Earth from the TARDIS whilst drinking a cup of tea incredibly endearing.
I must confess I do also have a slight fondness for the two robots played by David Mitchell and Robert Webb. Two squabbling robots could have been annoying, but in Mitchell and Webb’s hands, they’re actually quite funny. In fact you may be noticing a pattern emerging here. Everything I’ve liked so far is more to do with the acting, rather than the writing. That’s because Dinosaurs On A Spaceship has the same problem as all of Chris Chibnall’s other Doctor Who stories. The script is fucking rubbish.
I mean take a look at the other characters. You have Riddell, a big game hunter and sexist arsehole. God knows why he’s there. Outside from being a misogynistic dickhead, he doesn’t actually have a character and contributes nothing to the plot. Maybe Rupert Graves walked onto the set by mistake. And then there’s Queen Nefertiti. A famous Egyptian Queen who also has no reason to be there and is the latest character to be Pompadoured (that’s the term I’m using to refer to any famous woman in history who’s reduced to a one dimensional sex object and sass machine by Steven Moffat, like he did with Madame de Pompadour in The Girl In the Fireplace. Do you like it? I think it’s quite catchy, don’t you?). Her dialogue is pretty much interchangeable with Amy’s (who’s still her obnoxious self) and she’s yet another example of a ‘strong female character’ in inverted commas. It’s like Moffat and co are stamping them out with cookie cutters. Every single female character in the Moffat era pretty much behaves in the same way. They’re feisty, dismissive of the men around them and flirt with anyone they come across. After Amy, River Song and Oswin, it’s just boring more than anything else.
And then there’s the question of sex. Chris Chibnall clearly thinks he’s making a strong feminist statement by presenting Nefertiti as being sexually liberated, but the trouble is over the course of the episode it begins to backfire spectacularly. Solomon at one point wishes to swap the dinosaurs for Nefertiti, which leads into this whole criticism of ownership and objectification. The problem is the script objectifies Nefertiti just as much as Solomon does. When we first see her, she throws herself lustfully after the Doctor and then she starts flirting with Riddell who does nothing but objectify her. At one point he even says he wants to bend Nefertiti over his knee and spank her, which I think is supposed to be Chibnall’s idea of sexy banter, but is instead just incredibly skin crawling. Riddell is a colossal sexist jerk and yet Nefertiti still flirts with him and ends up in a relationship with him at the end. Chris Chibnall effectively wants to have his cake and eat it too. He wants to condemn the objectification of women whilst he’s objectifying them.
But by far the biggest problem with this episode is its tone. It’s incredibly uneven and clunky. I’m not saying you can’t have some light and shade. The problem is Chris Chibnall does it really, really badly. It feels as though a child and a psychopath have taken turns writing the script. One minute you’re enjoying the scenes with the Doctor and co riding a triceratops and laughing at the comedy robots, then in the next scene the comedy robots suddenly gun down the triceratops in cold blood. Yes it’s shocking, but not in the right way. It feels incredibly jarring. Also who is Dinosaurs In A Spaceship geared toward? You’d assume it’s children, and yet there’s a whole lot of crass sex references and penis jokes. And don’t get me started on the bit where Solomon implies he wants to rape Nefertiti. That is beyond inappropriate. (And do you know what makes this sexist bullshit all the more uncomfortable to watch? When you remember that Chris Chibnall is the one who is going to be writing the first female Doctor. Be afraid people. Be VERY afraid).
I suspect this is the reason why people have a problem with the way the Doctor resolves the situation. I personally didn’t see anything wrong with what the Doctor does. Let’s face it, he’s done a lot worse in the past and Solomon is clearly irredeemably evil, so I was more than happy to see him get his comeuppance. I think the reason why it stuck out like a sore thumb for a lot of people was because of how blundering the rest of the episode was. What should have been a fun adventure with dinosaurs has been hijacked by explicitly dark material that really shouldn’t be there.
As I say, not the worst thing Chibnall has ever written, but that’s hardly a glowing recommendation. Anything that’s even remotely enjoyable about Dinosaurs On A Spaceship comes from the actors rather than the writing. Plus it’s dinosaurs, which nobody can possibly hate. Other than that, it’s yet another failure from Doctor Who’s future showrunner.

On Gency
Okay, because some people have issues with Gency, I thought I’d compile a lil list of arguments that I find against Gency and why I think they’re bullshit. Disclaimer; The ship isn’t canon yet, this is refering to fan complaints, and everything below is my own interpretation of the current lore and character dynamics between the two. This is not a case FOR Gency, rather just debunking some of the toxic shit I’ve seen thrown at it. (long post incoming) TL;DR: if you have another opinion, you’re free to have it. Just try to stay on topic and don’t drag anything into it that doesn’t belong (’homophobia in OW’, current real world issues, that kinda shit) Oh, also I’m going to overlook the “It’s a het ship, so it’s boring” argument, because while I’ve seen it enough to tear y’all a new one over it, I’mma let it slide because that would be too easy to destroy (but I’ll get to that later) 1. Gency is abusive  Nowhere cited or stated. The largest asspull I’ve seen. Don’t have much to say about it since the people I’ve noticed who use this excuse can’t provide any other reason than this simple phrase. 2. Genji didn’t consent to what Mercy did to him This is like getting in a car wreck, going to a doctor, them saving your life, and then turning around and yelling at them for doing their job. Genji was injured, Overwatch picked him up, Mercy as chief medic of OW saved him, as per her job description. Genji probably didn’t want to die there either. He was a playboy at the time, so I imagine that that moment was one of clarity for him, realizing that he never truly lived for anything worthwhile and if being brought back as a part-cyborg would enable him to do so, then he’d do it. 3. OW used Genji to attack his family Again, nowhere stated or implied. It’s stated that Genji used his abilities to dismantle his family’s criminal empire, but never that Genji went on a vendetta against his family. Genji’s no idiot and was probably well aware of the things his family was doing to ensure that he lived the playboy lifestyle he enjoyed for most of his life, but never really cared until they turned against him. After being saved from death, logic would dictate that he’d have some resentment against his family for the criminal shit they were pulling and would’ve gone after them anyway even if working for OW wasn’t a part of the deal. 4. Genji hated his body, and therefore hated Mercy Another asspull and something people try to use to demonize Mercy. Genji’s hatred of himself stems from that: HIMSELF. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen anyone who’s disabled to the point of losing a part of themselves, but it really takes a toll on one’s mental state, self-worth, self-image and esteem. The stress of losing his ENTIRE body coupled with the betrayal of his family more than likely left him disillusioned with the world and his place in it. And as common for men, he found peace in something greater than himself. It’s why he’s so willing to write Mercy and keep touch with her through writing. After he has found peace with himself, he realizes how grateful he is to Mercy for saving him and giving him a chance to live for something greater than himself. Even without canon romantics, it’s genuinely touching to see one character grateful for what they once took for granted and were repulsed at. 5. Mercy had no say in saving Genji Mercy’s designation is the chief medical doctor of Overwatch. Last time I checked, a doctor’s JOB is to SAVE LIVES. Angela strikes me as the kind of person who does what she does, not out of obligation, but because she wants to save lives and make the world a better place. Even if you want to go with the excuse that OW MADE her save him, odds are she would’ve done it anyway because that’s who she is. 6. Mercy turned Genji into a killing machine Genji was ALREADY a trained ninja, so also bullshit. While he did indulge in a frivolous lifestyle, he was still able to contend with Hanzo and fight him off to the point where it wasn’t a one-sided slaughter. The fact that Genji lived AT ALL after their fight is proof of his abilities and skill. The cybernetic makeover they gave him had the primary purpose of saving his life, but because they are naturally more efficient than human limbs, they inadvertently BOOSTED his already stupidly skilled body even beyond what he could do before. TL;DR, the cybernetics didn’t suddenly make him a ‘killing machine’, Genji did. also he’s not a ‘machine’, as he still retains morality and free will. 7. Mercy is evil and a white savior The evil part has already been debunked by the creators, but the ‘White Savior’ bit is really confusing to me. She’s a doctor, so her job is to literally SAVE LIVES. LIKE I HATE TO BREAK FLOW HERE, READER, BUT WHERE THE HELL DID THIS EVEN COME FROM? THE BLONDE HAIR AND BLUE EYES?? SHE’S SWEDISH! LIKE ????? Worst asspull and people just resorting to spitting insults at a character. 8. Genji is a self-insert OC so the writer can live out his dreams of fucking Mercy Yeah, because as if implying that an Asian writer wants to plow his character ISN’T racist. ok. Every character that has ever existed is an OC. And honestly, this is one of the most disgusting pulls I have seen to come out of some people’s mouths. Think before you speak, like damn... 9. The writer is homophobic and favors a straight ship over LGBT representation He’s also the guy responsible for making the comic that revealed OW’s flagship character as gay. I’m not surprised that you missed it though because, while everyone else was celebrating this fact, y’all were complaining about Genji and Mercy writing one another. While he might enjoy the ship, he has also gone on record saying that people should enjoy what they love, regardless of canon. 10. Mercy has a savior complex Side note, but I find it funny how people will say stuff like this and then turn around and ship Mercy with anyone else. Like that makes it better... Again, DOCTOR, SAVES LIVES, HELPS PEOPLE. She doesn’t do what she does out of obligation, otherwise she wouldn’t even be active after OW disbanded, but because she genuinely cares about the good of others, even to the point of disagreeing with OW from time to time and helping those afflicted by war.
11. The patient/doctor relationship is weird and gross Newsflash! EVERYONE who has actively served in OW has at some point been Mercy’s patient. So if you go by that logic, you can no longer ship her with ANYONE in the game who has ties to OW.
12. It’s a poorly-written ship Of course it’s going to be poorly written when it isn’t even CANON yet. Look, bottom line is all we have right now for them that’s concrete is canon story connections, sweet fluff in game and out of game, and voicelines that tie into those story ties. No canon comic dedicated to them, no animated short. At the end of the day, that’s what people are sending death threats over: canon fluff and connections. 13. It’s a boring ship This one bugs me and it’s probably where I’m going to close with. I’ve seen this the most, even without the ‘het’ label (because bi, pans, demi people TOTALLY don’t exist yeah?) but that it’s ‘boring’. This, at the end of the day, is an opinion, but a very unfair one.  ANY PAIRING CAN BE BORING. ANY RELATIONSHIP CAN BE BORING, EVEN GAY ONES. WHAT MAKES A PAIRING INTERESTING, A RELATIONSHIP DYNAMIC, AND CHARACTERS INTERESTING ARE THE WAYS IN WHICH A PAIRING IS HANDLED, A RELATIONSHIP FLESHED OUT, AND CHARACTERS DEFINED, ALL OF WHICH OW’S CAST OF CHARACTERS ARE DESPITE NOT HAVING DEDICATED COMICS AND SHORTS TO EVERYONE. They have likes, dislikes, dynamics and themes, stories and agendas, motivations and convictions, and small bits and pieces in between. All of which makes them engaging and interesting characters that we as the audience WANT to learn more about. We WANT to see Lucio get a short because he’s a great and lovable character with a cause that he’s fighting for. We WANT a McCree short because of his past, his convictions in his time with Blackwatch, and want to see what he’s going to do next. And we LOVED the Reflections comic because, for the first time that I can remember, we saw Tracer get revealed as gay and it DIDN’T remove from her being a bad-ass, wise cracking adventurer who believes that the world could always use more heroes. What I’m getting at is if you think ship X is boring, then it tells me two things about you. Either 1.) You haven’t looked hard enough or 2.) You haven’t seen what someone who’s GOOD can do Because I have loved ships simply because of the heart and soul fans put into them. I love Symetrat because someone wrote a hella good fic that fleshed out their characters, explored the dynamics between their differences, and presented them, for lack of a better word, flawlessly. I’ve loved the sheer amount of sweetness in the art I’ve seen in the Pharmercy tag and loved the dynamic of McHanzo, two roamers looking for peace in their own way. I even loved Widowtracer, two opposing forces and ideologies, melding, clashing, and learning. And I love Gency because it’s different from the ‘guy saves girl trope’, it EMPOWERS Mercy, gives Genji a turning point in his life, and creates a dynamic friendship between the two characters that, even if it never reaches romantic canon, will always be one of my favorite character dynamics in gaming. I’ve seen it in and out of Overwatch and to several fandoms beyond. We as fans can do some pretty amazing shit when we’re not engaging in ship wars and tearing out the throats of our creators, things that can genuinely touch and impact other people’s lives in new and profound ways, add relateability  to already relatable characters, and flesh out stories and dynamics and relationships even after the official story is over, all while offering a new perspective on characters we already know and love. What I’m getting at, and will close on, is that the ship isn’t boring. You are

More Returns
Here's a superb podcast on Peaks. May 30 is the most recent episode. A great listen. Counter Esperanto Podcast: Tangents About Twin Peaks: 10th Secret: The Return
On Tue, Jun 13, 2017 at 1:53 PM, Dom wrote: I'll check it out tonight.
So my Diane prediction was on the fucking money.
I got another theory I'm working on.
Who's the mysterious billionaire? I heard some people say it may be Audrey Horne. I heard some people say it is Jack (John Justice Wheeler). I heard some people say it is Phillip Jeffries or Evil Cooper.
Put on your tinfoil hat for this one. The Billionaire is Leo Johnson. He lived through his spider ordeal. Then he took everything that Windom left behind (notes, computer files, other assorted Windom things) and built a criminal empire. I find it very hard to believe that the fucking casting director's son who was in the 1st two seasons and the fucking movie is NOT in this one.
The secret history of twin peaks tells us what happens to a bunch of characters like Leo. For instance Hank dies in prison. But not one word in the book about Leo? I got to believe that he lives and he’s not just a slobbering fool any more. I know this is probably not going to happen. But that's my theory.
I cannot imagine Leo is a rich billionaire — how did he make his money? A theory that makes sense I’ve heard on EW TP podcast that it could be BOB-Cooper attempting to catch Good Cooper if he ever left the Lodge. But really, I have no idea… not as of end of P7.
I like how Lynch-Frost are using all official Twin Peaks releases as canon to draw the narrative from — Laura’s Diary, FWWM, Missing Pieces of blu-ray edition, as well as many classic episode threads.
And like Erik, I KNOW, that Sheriff Harry S. Truman will make an appearance in this season. I feel it in my bones.
It’s looking grim for Harry — or rather, it sounds grim from Frank saying to Harry, “beat this thing.” But actually I can see Ontkean coming out of retirement to have a role toward the end of the series. I also (want to) believe Josie returning … maybe she’s the billionaire, but why would she make such a contraption mounted to the side of building?
On Sun, Jun 25, 2017 at 2:26 AM, Erik wrote: Good Morning Gents. Grab a cup a joe and settle down a minute. I got some backed up information for yous … << Starts Tape Recorder…. >>
Spot on is right Mr Domi. You got that Diane was Laura Dern AND that she drinks at the Pub we went to. I even want to say she is seated in the area of the bar that we were sitting at that night.  Glad it wasn't raining when we went, "FUCK Gene Kelly, You mother fucker!!" LOL I love Albert, he is my favorite this season. (Location: Max Von's Bar = Casey's Irish Pub, 619 South Grand, LA)
So Episode 7 should have shut up all those whiner's and complainer's of Ep 6. There was a lot of hate on the internet, and even in our FB Group, about that episode. I was ok with it. I did not like the scene with the kid getting hit by the truck, but the scene ended with the Fat Trout Telephone pole, so I'm ok with it.
"Lynch has gotten flak for the male gaze in his work, but the problems go a lot deeper than lingering shots on female anatomy.…” Laura Hudson in Vulture.
Also in EP 6 we finally got two major new pieces of music from Angelo, not his best work, but still great to hear.  The overall lack of his music is my biggest complaint this season in case I didn't make that clear.
When Johnny Jewel's Windswept first appeared, I thought that was Badalamenti  finally debuting new music. I was definitely disappointed it was not Angelo, no disrespect to Johnny. But I agree with you Erik about no AB original score. That music is what made classic Peaks so memorable. I don’t get why Lynch is using such popular music. There really wan’t any such tracks in FWWM, it was Angelo’s music and further cemented Peaks as evergreen. Lynch is acting like Scorcese in the epic cinematic story… and he doesn’t need to. Marty did not have a Badalamenti in his arsenal. Lynch does. Please use him.
EP 7...There's a body alright.. is definitely the shit. Now we are cooking. Jerry!!!! Come out of it man... Lets get Ben and Jerry back in action, not disfunction. The diary pages, Annie's message from FWWM, Leland hiding pages, DIANE from hell! ... Bringing it all back home.
There’s a dark undercurrent with Diane and Cooper. All signs are indicating something very bad happened to Diane. I think BOB-Cooper raped her.
I wonder where Frank Truman was at the time of Laura's murder? He says he remembers Leland, her father, did it, but is not really familiar with the case. BUT why the heck is Frank not asking "So what is "the Lodge" you keep talking about?” Hawk?
The way Hawk talks so knowledgable about both Lodges and the way Frank does not question or disbelieve him, then it must be common knowledge among the indigenous culture. Wonder if Frank is a Bookhouse Boy?
Ancient Doc Hayward, kinda sad, but he was still funny. Did you catch his Skype name?  MiddleburyDoc... Warren Frost was actually living in VT right? They probably actually did just Skype him and screen capture it…lol
I caught that right away about Warren Frost’s Skype handle. And no doubt, Frost stayed in Vermont to do his scene. That just recorded the screen.… I do miss Briggs. Yet he died long before Lynch-Frost’s three-year tenure writing the new story, they had plenty of time to work the presence of him into the story.
Briggsy.. Oh Major Briggs. how we miss thee. Should be interesting how this plays out. And When the hell are we going to go back to I bet the road where Andy is waiting to meet the Truck owner is up there at Frankln Canyon Pond.
The Dog Leg.... WTF?  Is Joe McCluskey the guy that rigged the car and Mr C Killed earlier on? I do think the Psycho Little guy with the Ice Pick and Gun is kinda silly. Over the top for no reason.  Oh well.… It's kinda silly also that no one has taken Dougie to the Doctor. Everyone just plays along. we have to suspend disbelief I guess.
OMG enough with the guy sweeping at the Roadhosue. Is this all the extra time he told Shotime he needed more money for to tell the story properly?  lol and more music used in hundreds of shows and commercials. I love Booker T and the MGs don't get me wrong, but ... UGH I miss you Angelo... Also... Kinda weird to see Jean Michel... Did Jacque Renault have a twin brother? lol Mr. C and Ray getting out of Prison.. Bad stuff gonna happen. I think they might have used San Bernadino County Jail for this locaton. The Cell block Cooper is located on looks familar.  I will compare some screen grabs from my Locaton and Publicity Photos we took for Beyond Scared Straight at that jail.
And beause they needed to pad the ending to get to the alloted running time... Back to the RR Diner for the end scene, and yet another over-used stock song they probably had to pay more to use than what they paid Angelo for everything. Plus, I liked that song better when they used it in the X-files episode “Home" but No, I'm not bitter.
General notes: Glad Naomi Watts has such a big part. She really owns her scenes. Wish Jennifer Jason Leigh was more present but Mr C just left Jail for somewhere... It's slightly brilliant how Lynch (but probably Frost came up with it) still has made Harry a character in the show. even if only on the phone and never even heard. I feel like Harry is there kinda. Also brilliant... Robert Forrester.... wow. Wish he was in the original or the movie. Not sure how I feel with Dern as Diane. I'll go with it and see what happens.
Outstanding questions for me....(cause I haven't been reading blogs or listening to podcasts)
What is up with all the Arthurian Legend references? Dougie lives on Lancalot Court, down the street from the Merlin Market. Janey-E meets for the ransom drop on the corner of Gueneivere and Merlin. And of course, Glastonbury Grove... Pete Martel: "King Arthur's burried in England!"
Why is it when Dougie puts his thumb up or his hand out to shake, he turns his body 180 degrees?
What is up with the creepy guy (from Mulholland Diner scene) in the Vegas Office? I can't seem to catch his meaning in the story line.
What is up with Cooper's Room Key from the Great Northern? If has finally made it back to Ben Horne...Soooo?
One last question... Did Lynch quit smoking?  He made two references to people (Gordon Cole even) quitting. Did we ever even see Cole smoke in the series or movie? weird for him to say he quit when the character never smoked on camera. "You think about that Tammy."

But I think that a "Sheriff Truman" has been in power for over 60 consecutive years now between the 2 brothers and their father. It sort of like there must always be a Stark in Winterfell.
To my knowledge that was the first time ever we have heard name Joe McCluskey. I have no clue who that is. But I have a feeling we will learn.
Yea, I don’t recollect Joe McCluskey. Gotta watch again to see if he first appears or is mentioned earlier.
I think Ike the Spike is either from the black lodge or an agent of the black lodge. Remember he smelled "funny" per the little girl.
Spike did look a little monstery, his teeth especially.
I actually loved that scene of the sweeping. I could just imagine everyone watching was freaking out and I enjoyed that. And I thought that Walter did some great acting while on the phone as Jean-Michel. "He owes me for two!"
That ending scene from the RR diner was weird as shit. Its either the worst continuity error of all time or something truly weird happened there. Completely different set of people dining there after David Lynch's son runs in and asks if anyone has seen Billy.
Lynch did not quit smoking. He, like Harry Dean are lifers.
Both Laura Dern and Naomi Watts are killing their roles. Both doing a fantastic job. I just cannot wait to see them come face to face over Dougie.
And MacLachlan! All his Cooper iterations are really well done. I love that BOB-Cooper character. Can’t wait to see what trouble he kicks up now!
My new tin foil theory is that we may be dealing with 2 Twin Peaks. Twins of each other if you will. I'm still working this one out. Different versions of the same town in different universes a part of a greater multiverse?
Did you notice Andy was wearing a rolex? Kind of weird.
…And he was supposed to meet the guy at 4:30. Is that one of the numbers from ????? ?
The guy from the Vegas office is working directly for Phillip Jeffries or whoever is pretending to be him IMO.
Don’t overlook the black soot guy walking in the hallway toward the female FBI agent in the morgue. I think it’s related to the guy next to Bill Hastings cell.…
Lots of Arthurian Legend stuff from way back when. I never got that. But its seems to be very important. I would love to go to Merlin's Market.
During the end credits from the last episode buried in the music is Windham Earle's theme mixed into the background too!!!!!
I might try headphones for tonight’s part to see exactly what sounds I miss. I know there’s a lot of low audible noise and rumbling that I don’t hear when our apartment is 86º and the fan is going.…
On Jun 25, 2017, at 8:10 PM, Dom wrote: Some last minute thoughts...
Yeah I agree about MacLachlan is killing it and should win an Emmy for best actor. Black soot guy is awesome and its the same dude for sure from the jail cell. Some people seem to think we have seen him a third time as a homeless man outside of Vegas at the Rachera Rosa is whatever it is called. I don't think that we did. I will need to re-watch that again. Another tin foil hat theory. On those three pages from Laura's diary she refers to knowing who it is and that its not Bob. At least everyone thinks she is referencing Leland. That is probably most right. However I am thinking that she is referring to an evil more powerful and sadistic than even Bob.Like whatever came out of the glass box and mutilated those younglings.

I am thinking if the guy in the diner eating food non-stop the whole scene with Ray and the chick Mr C shot in the head.  Just before he kills her, he tells her "i killed joe, and the she freaks out, knowing the gig is up.   The previous scene the eating guy "joe" does something to a car in storage and then cooper like squeezes his face for a whole minute.   Could be McCluskey?
> "Lynch did not quit smoking."
Well, its mighty fine of him to send a non smoking message to all the youths. Considering Cole does not smoke, it is a conscious message.
> "All his Cooper iterations are really well done."
Yes, Kyle will def get an Emmy nomination. Dern and Watts will also I predict.
> “RR diner was weird as shit. Its either the worst continuity error of all time or something truly weird happened there.”
There are no accidents on a Lynch set. If an error occurs and he likes it he will use it. So who knows why he did it. On the same level as the windows  flashing code on the FBI jet.  He is throwing out decoys i feel.
> “then it (the Lodge) must be common knowledge among the indigenous culture.”
Then why the heck is Truman not like "well lets go up there" nor does Hawk tell him he was up in those woods when Log Lady last called.
> “Don’t overlook the black soot guy walking in the hallway”
Nope, I did not mention him cause i consider it another decoy.  Kinda like the shambling being behind the diner in Mulholland Drive...never came up again. i am sure he will play a part at some point.
But i did forget to mention the playing card Mr. C  showed the girl in the hotel bed before he shoots her.  Aliens? Very well could be.
Have a good viewing. The damn internet saying EP 8 is extra noteworthy. Could it be Phillip Jeffries? Windom Earl?  More Leland and Laura? (I actually doubt we will see either of them again).  Audrey? Big Ed? They got plenty of options.
Cheers! ~G
