theres something to be said about how mac still holds such a childish adoration for his parents after such a long time. how literally its shown to us by the fact that

mac always slicked his hair back as a child, when he still had contact with his father

he stops doing this into adulthood, but later in life, once mac interacts with his father again, he starts slicking his hair back again

he doesnt stop. slicking his hair back. until his own father walks out during his coming out performance. the guy he put it on for. only after that does he completely stop styling his hair that way

not to mention the constant refusal that his mom (and dad) could be anything but perfect, the way hes so desperate to do good by them, viewing them as the way to measure his success...

and. yeah thats. something.

the internal denial that his parents treated him poorly, the fact that its his primary instinct to deny that his parents suck, the constant dismissal of his own issues relating to family because his whole life hes been told that "other people have it worse". the way hes internalized that so hard. the way it takes his dad walking out on macs coming out performance to him for mac to stop blindly idolizing some guy whos threatened to kill him

the constant fear of his own father, while also believing him to be the coolest bestest guy ever. the way he always assumes his father is gonna get violent when actually talking to him, but sings nothing but praises when away from him

the fact that he still calls his dad "daddy" even.

i mean you cant really blame him for not fully growing up in some areas huh

its not even that i think he doesnt know that his parents treat him horribly, it just really seems like he wants so badly to believe thats not the case from years of having his cries for help ignored or made fun of. he cant have been treated poorly, because charlie was treated poorly, and his baggage isnt nearly as bad as charlies, so clearly macs home life wasnt bad.

i think thats proven most of all by his frustration with his own family at times, it really feels like theres some underlying issues. they can very quickly manifest as frustration and anger, but honestly its probably mostly sadness. the way he reacts to his own mother really reminds me of how i interact with family members i have grudges with but have to pretend i dont. im not actually angry at any of these people, im mostly just exhausted by them.

he very clearly is still aware of the neglect he faced as a kid, to me. he knows his home life was severely fucked up, hes just never been able to express that, so hes coped by just. pretending that it didnt happen.

and realistically i dont know if he could ever properly acknowledge that his home life was fucked and his parents suck. maybe hed acknowledge that his dad sucks now, but it wouldnt have been that bad when he was a kid and wasnt a fag. right? he was loved then. his mom still did a great job raising him, and he really loves her, and he was raised with all the love and care a child needs.

Every time I write a new meta exploring the Netflix adaptation of the Sandman comics and what they changed, I draw the same conclusion. Even if I don't start the meta even considering that conclusion I can't get away from it. I've been wrapped up in the comic canon for a while now and the comics only have one ending and no other ending is really possible unless you really hyperfocus on Hob's dream. I totally support comic analysis that concludes that the ending is paramount and fixed and cannot be changed. Comic focused meta writers are adament the story must play out as per the comics and I respect that reading.

But then I delve into show meta again and I once again reach the same conclusion: they are changing it. They must be changing it. The show canon doesnt allign with the comics. Its too hopeful, too kind, too supportive.

Maybe too much hope is as much of a bad thing as not enough? There was never any hope in the comic universe. Overture makes that very clear. But the Netflix universe? Oodles of hope. Hope in all corners. Filled to the brim with hope.

I'm completely at a loss and in two minds about it. I'm fascinated and terrified about it. Perhaps we wont even get that far though. Maybe Netflix will cancel the show before we get a chance to see its natural ending. Season 2 could also totally do a 180 on the groundwork season 1 laid down so there is that. I don't know... I'm so confused by it all.

Im trying to figure out how germanium stops Saikis telepathy and its just made me have thoughts;

Like it's chemically simular to silicon and tin so would that mean those two can stop his telepathy or is it just germanium, surely there's more metals considering his actual limiters.

Anyway the reason I think germanium stops Saikis telepathy is because germanium is used as a semiconductor for transistors (they help amplify or switch electrical signals).

So this means that the germanium is switching the electrical currents that his brain uses for telepathy to another thing, no idea what since the series doesn't mention it, maybe it could also be amplifying his other powers.

It is also a really brittle element so let's just assume Saiki regularly breaks his germanium ring (though maybe that is why the door sales assistant sold it, obviously not a metal used for jewelry if it breaks easily).

This might be controversial but I have my reasons that I hope people can understand. It's sometimes hard for me to accept Willow from T0H being fat not for fatphobic reasons, far from it.

The only thing that makes her bigger is having a round face but her body wasn't always that different from everyone else, everyone else is just more stick thin. It's sort of a disservice to have a token fat character, especially when the character is just not skinny.

There's also the chat on looking back on actresses from the 90s and early 2000s who were considered fat and the media did not hold back on the insults. If you're as old as me or older, you'd definitely know what I'm talking about. I think something like that leaves a bad taste to see the the character who just so happen to not be as thin is automatically considered fat. Don't get me wrong, I adore the fan art and I'm not stopping anyone from it. That isn't the point I wanna make. My point is, the show did such a terrible job at including body diversity and doing this to a young female character kinda stings. Having grown up to see young actresses be called all sorts of things for not being size 0 or the media saying this female celebrity "let herself go" and she just has a mom bod or doesn't look the same as she did as a teenager.

I remember it was a thing where fans would consider artists fatphobic if they didn't draw Willow fat but the thing is, maybe that is the case but at the same time I don't entirely blame people for drawing Willow as she pretty much is. I blame the show for doing a terrible job to be honest. Not only did it feel kinda performative for people to get upset it just takes me back to how I grew up and how damaging it can be that because if you aren't a size 0 or have some fat on your cheeks that it just simply means fat. Being fat isn't bad or an insult obviously. I just think something like this deserves more nuance and conversation.

thinking thoughts about the ending of the world’s end so im going to put it on read more for spoilers

my “”””problem”””” with the ending of the movie is that is the start of another movie i want to watch. i want to know everything about the blanks now wtf. both robots and kind of clones of other people, finally free but in a world that hates and blame them?? and when i think about the blanks versions of the 5 musketeers that go with gary... like i used to think they just had the memories of them as teenagers, but i think it makes more sense they have their adults memories with the “reset”, or even if they have selective memories what do they remember? im not even sure and i need answers

BUT if they all have their adult memories, lets just start with pete because there are 2 blanks of him. is ambiguous if his wife knows he is a blank but he is similar enough to be left unknow in the story. so one of them went with his wife and kids and the other with gary. is also blank!steve in love with sam? but he left because he can’t compete with the adult, human version of himself? and i also wonder about the relationship between sam and blank!olliver, can she properly grief her brother when there is a version of him right there? but also the most noticeable Not Human blank of them all with all his face cut. 

Andy is still in contact with everyone but gary according to what he says, but tht also means blank!andy also didnt have a place to return with his wife and kids because his human version did.... idk my hc is that gary took care specifically of the blank version of his friends who didn’t have a place to return anymore because other Them got it first/look more the part/are humans and omg

sucks too because recently reading Alice isn't dead (or listening to the audiobook rather) and playing control got me thinking about said setting with a useful lexicon with which to describe ideas id only entertained in their most vague form but i don't feel i can do anything with that. this isn't to say people don't or can't draw some measure of inspiration from negativity but for me at least it's like. if you're in a pit of mud you certainly know about mud. you understand it in some way and could refer to it or draw inspiration from it. but if you try to take a pen and paper and start writing about it all you'll do is smudge and ruin it with the mud you're currently in. youd have to pull yourself out and clean yourself before writing about the mud. does that make sense

you know what boils my blood.

over the last 2 weeks, i've seen countless patients walk into my urgent care center, symptomatic for so many things, refusing to get tested for covid and flu, citing that they don't want to knowingly bring it to their holiday tables. i had a patient tell me, verbatim, "i don't want to test for covid, because i don't want to be the asshole who brings it on a plane."

i understand that - i understand that holidays are times where people look forward to meeting loved ones that they might only see once a year, or where they get a break from the hectic back and forth of their lives.

but here's the thing - whether they get tested or not, they will bring whatever they have to their holiday tables. it's pure recklessness to know that you're sick, and walk into someone else's house spreading the disease.

today, january 2, i saw 91 patients, many of them who have tested positive for covid and flu. many of these patients are the same ones who didn't want testing 3 days ago, until their events were over, and now, they will have to reach out to everyone they know to let them know that they were positive because they were showing symptoms well before their event.

the next week or two? we're going to see many, many more, all people with symptoms that started around christmas. these are the only two viruses we test for rapidly in our office, but they are potent and can be fatal in many people.

so here's why i wrote this post, and maybe it's a little late, but - if you care about your loved ones, please get tested if you know you're sick. it doesn't have to be at a clinic if you don't want it to, because the over-the-counter tests work just fine too (if you test within 5-7 days of symptom onset). just...please don't try to run from the knowledge that you might have covid, because immunocompromised people, elderly people, people with co-morbidities like asthma, pregnancy, diabetes, etc...many of them may not recover. and they may not be sitting at your holiday table in the future because of it.
