Collaborative 2AL Comic Calling and Info!
Oh BOY did this blow up...
Ive polished up dialogue and framing, in total there should be 30 panels, exactly the tumblr image limit haha! Everyone who is participating gets to draw a panel! I will message you the dialogue, and a general layout once I get everyone in! :) I look forward to this!
30/30 Participants [full!]
If you are interested in joining, please message me here on tumblr or Discord! [Discord would be preferred in the long run]
--------
-> Deadline for panels?
2 Weeks! Hoping everything can be ready to go to post by September 24th!
---
-> What style to use?
Your own! I would love it if you can have as much fun as you can making the panel! The more unique each panel is the better, I dont want to constrict anyones artistic ability outside dialogue, where characters are in a room, and a vague framing idea/expressions.
As for coloring, fully colored and digital would be preferred! Just blue blobs can also work! With the exception of 4 specific panels, flashback panels, in a black/white/red scheme to help differentiate what panel is a flashback, and what panel isnt. I will let you know if your panel is one of those specific 4!
---
-> How will posting and crediting work?
When the panels are all done, I will gather them up into a singular post on this blog. Below the comic itself in order of panels would be everyones @ to the blog they want credited, Multiple blogs can also be credited ofc (For example If you drew panel 3 you will be the third @ on the list)
You are also free to add a signature or @ to your blog in the panel art itself!

one thing i noticed (form personal experience and by observing other artists) is that the longer you draw and create, the more boring it gets to simply replicate references, especially when it comes to characers' fashion choices.
with bnha, i keep mine pretty simple and basic because teens ARE very trend-loyal, but mainly im just lazy lol, but when i AM motivated, i love to think about characters' personal style, what could influence them, but also more trivial things such as budget into account, which is why i love to draw Deku in basic tees or clothes provided by his school (while bakugo gets to wear ed hardy and shoto wears arcteryx). i also love to limit the items like its just more realistic to me when someone as ordinary as deku wears the same 5 crewnecks all the time
which brings me to my actual point, namely that the more frequently you draw, the more you learn to do research andto combine your findings into sth new rather than staying faithful to one reference, and i think that's what makes good art so good, being able to draw inspiratioin from all kinds of niches and creating something that feels very authentic and suspends the spectator's disbelief. sometimes i see art and i know exactly which fashion editorial or which kpop idol was referenced, and I'm not insinuating these are bad things i do that too (less frequently now but i sure did!), my point is it's kind of nice to see how ALL artist start out with rather derivative art but eventually move on to create more authentic art that is less about drawing beautiful and perfect people and more about trying to individualize them and that ALSO means giving them weird clothes, scars, asymmetric eyes, a receding hairline etc. like drawing the same beautiful character 200 times gets so boring and it's just more fun to try and make them a bit more human

hii ! i have a question, how much does it take you to finish a drawing ?? i really really love how you render😭, and personally i struggle with it cause i always have problems with the whole trust the process mindset and rush everything .. do you have any tips? T-T
hiiii!!! it depends ;__; usually like a full background piece is at least 15-20 hours of work (although I've been trying to get faster WAA)
normal full body art is usually like 7-10 hours? funnily enough the half body/profile ones take longer bc i get hung up on details 😭
the trust the process part is the HARDEST part of art for me so i totally get it :( so many of my sketches just stay sketches because i cant get myself to keep working on them so i highly recommend just following through with it!! i really would recommend doing small little pieces (even like keeping a sketchbook, i do that and its helpful for just drawing whatever with no pressure of people seeing it) youre happy with to get more confident in drawing larger and more time consuming stuff, and to really not think about how you want the end product to look like but just follow whatever choices you make in the moment. it helps me a lot with feeling more satisfied with my work :D
trying different brushes, different colors and blending modes if you do digital art can be really refreshing too to get out of the process mindset (just experiment !!! it can help you get more ideas in a natural way)

Sooooo, I tried a comic format for the first time!~
I knew I wanted to do something with the little A/ku sketch, aaaand this is what ended up happening~
(loosely) based on ~this wav~ that was a birthday gift for the incredible @goodlucksnez so please take this as a second gift, a little past your birthday so let's just call it "brainrot feeding" <33
