my darling Ix….do you have any tattoo headcanons for the Daiya boys? >.>
ah hahahaha, uh, funny you should say that since I'm still drooling over Nume's Bassist!Kuramochi ♡♡♡
I could definitely see Mochi getting a tattoo in whatever universe you plop him in. Smth smaller if it (the universe) were anything related to him being pro, probably something symbolic of an experience or someone who's impacted his life in a huge way. I could also see him being the type to get one of those tattoos that looks like a bruise? Not quite scarification, but something that blends in, possibly resembling the marks his partner likes to leave on his skin.
If it's an Artist, Band, or Mafia related AU, he'd definitely go big. Sleeves, his chest, his back. Something that starts by his shoulder and ends up snaking its way down and stopping just before his knee? For those I think he'd favor more artistic pieces as opposed to something necessarily personal.
Similarly, I think Sanada and Umemiya would get tattoos across the board.
I could see Sanada getting something floral & heavy on the line work on his shoulder blade or across his chest, under his collarbone? Likely something similar to the style of L'Oiseau or NIKO INKO.
And I think Umemiya would be the type to let an artist go ham on his back or his chest. The opportunity to be tatted by someone like Horiyoshi? I think he'd dig it for the experience alone ahahah

Awww! There's a train guy taking a nap in a potato mochi!! 🥹
I saw a tutorial video that featured an Imo Mochi (Potato Mochi) recipe that used nori to wrap each mochi (which is the main inspiration behind this drawing)! I'll include it here:
youtube
I'd love to try it out when I'm not too busy!

I think Pecharunt's sense of morality and self-awareness is similar to that of a young child - it knows the concepts of emotions, love, hate, consequences, etc., but only on a very basic level.
It's aware of consequences and how it affects others, but only with those it knows; in other words, it only understands immediate consequences; things that happen as an immediate direct result of its actions, but doesn't seem to understand the concept of the ripple effect. It seems to know that its mochi seems to make others love it, but it doesn't seem to know that it seemingly eliminates impulse control.
It also seems that its sense of morality is underdeveloped - it understands helping others on some level; it understands that some things feel good or bad, but what it doesn't seem to understand is concepts like "stealing is wrong," which probably ties back into its lack of self-awareness.
Given its story, I find it likely that it was very sheltered for a large portion of its conscious life; and thus, its sense of morality and self-awareness were likely stunted.
As a result, I think it safe to say that Ogerpon's wrath was the first time in its life that it ever faced indirect negative consequences as a result of its actions.
Not justifying its actions, mind you; just pointing out how the recent lore elevates it from cartoonish to more compelling, IMO.

It's true, though. At least by the recipes I follow, every ingredient in shoga-tsukudani is also used in simmered salmon & daikon.
Tumblr media
I had more in this meal, though, so omake below the cut.
Tumblr media
Was looking for ohagi but most of the ohagi in the grocery store is huge, so I got these tiny ones which also had sakura-mochi style ingredients. Since one satsuma-imo lasts me forever, I've been experimenting with frozen satsuma-imo and onions for quicker miso soup, so I'll probably have more meals with the culinary equivalent of Rengoku-san photobombing the scene.
Tumblr media
Links to more details about these foods and/or my first attempts at making them:
Simmered Salmon & Daikon (shake-daikon) Ginger Simmered in Soy Sauce & Sugar (shouga-tsukudani) Sweet Potato Miso Soup (satsumaimo miso-shiru) Ohagi (you know... ohagi) Didn't actually analyze Cherry Blossom Rice Cakes (sakura-mochi), just ate a bunch of them with this adorable flower-viewing bentou.

Want Kieran to get Pecharunt in fics/fanart because i feel like it'd turn into a psychological horror for Him, Specifically, even before anything actually bad happens that would cause other characters to become concerned.
Like... Kieran is scared/v desperate in Mochi Mayhem despite the comedic beats after a certain point, and for good reason!
This is a Pokémon he literally has no context for, not even the Loyal Three connection! It just. Is. His dialogue specifically acting like 'oh if you can damage it you can beat it' is also. Really telling, imo.
I also think that somebody who is not whoever has Ogrepon is probably the better choice for someone to keep Pecharunt, and if I am going to be completely honest, I feel like if Pokémon scarlet/violet actually tracked inter-Pokémon friendship levels that it probably would be good to keep Pecharunt away from the Loyal Three too, but not for the reasons people think...?
Pecharunt gets mad at all three of them, and it repeats for each one, so honestly speaking I do Not think they would instantly get along again. I think something really bad could happen.
I also think this because Carmine going 'oh well I guess it will be a mystery what the deal with that thing (Pecharunt) is' /is/ giving me insight damage. I would like them to know. Especially considering Carmine and Kieran's family nearly got made outcasts due to Pecharunt's actions. Not to mention some of the weirdly specific Ogrepon legends that don't match to Ogrepon at all, and also pretty funnily enough do Not have a lot of connective tissue to the Pecharunt-we're-looking-at's stuff, because I feel like Kieran if kept in proximity to world's most placeless dread inducing pokemon (second if you include Malamar) WOULD eventually get into full pinboard with photographs style:
'Carmine I think this thing was stealing people from the village for years...'
'Kiki please go to bed it has been 48 hours. We talked about this...' etc etc.
I want characters to theorize about Pecharunt and be wrong, and I want to see stuff discussing toxic chain stuff that /isn't/ just 'oooh Kieran got possessed scary!'.
I also mostly have a very vivid image of Kieran at his desk looking at lists of status effect curing moves + abilities and poison-immunities in a big chart is quite good, because I do really feel like that's an extremely reasonable reaction to having a Pokemon that like, cursed your entire village and living family in your possession.

The Epilogue dropped today: Mochi Madness. Its not a DLC, but rather an Event that's like a tad more complicated version of past events on the DS and GBA games- Such as how you'd obtain Victini, Darkrai, Shaymin, etc.
Although, I'll be honest, I wouldn't call it an "epilogue" because all it really does is introduce the friend groups to each other and then have a fun side adventure. Think of it like a fun, campy OVA or special episode to a concluded season. An "epilogue" would have done something to tie up the final loose ends of the story, imo.
But I'm not going to be a downer about it- This was fun, hilarious, and honestly what I've always wanted Events to be before they became mythical pokemon handouts. Although, I would have rather had some more to do, such as some of those strange structures deeper in Oni Mountain or just delving deeper into the connections between Ogerpon, Pecharunt, and the Lousy Three- although they were at least decent enough to provide small easter eggs to it, such as Ogerpon crying out when you bring her out to battle Pecharunt, Pecharunt crying out when fighting one of the Three, and Carmine talking about how Pecharunt and the Lousy Three were "definitely connected."
Its a campy little side adventure, and that's fine. I would have loved to see Carmine have more interaction with the gang, and to see the gang enjoy the festival or explore more of Kitakami, but as I figured with the end of Indigo Disk, I figured they just wanted to be done with Scarlet and Violet. Kieran had a great "redemption?" arc kind of, or at least we were able to actually work together with him and get some quality time with him in his right state of mind, and honestly I'm just thrilled to know that Arven considers us his best friend to the point he gets jealous of newbies.
Oh, and now Kieran and Carmine will appear randomly in the BB Club Room- it's a bitch and a half to get them to show up, but you can speed up the process slightly by using the system calendar to go forward a day until one or both show up. Nemona, Penny, and Arven are part of the coach system now, so all you need is about 1800 BP to get them all maxed out, and you can rebattle them on command. They also have fun interactions with each other and other characters, such as Arven learning about how "Toedscruel" from other regions can swim, Penny expanding on the facility Blueberry Academy is attached to, and Nemona actually offering up some more of her own backstory.
As for Pecharunt itself- I'll admit. I'm very let down. I thought the way things were played out before that it was building up to be this mastermind behind everything, but it's just a little runt. That's fine too, in the end, I love a good little gremlin bastard child. Its ability is pretty insane, too, automatically stacking Confusion on top of Poison status you inflict on your opponent.
Perhaps there was a much, much bigger story planned out involving it, Ogerpon, and the Loyal Three, but ultimately time, like usual, was something they sacrificed to get it out the door. Perhaps this was always the plan. Who knows.
As it wasn't DLC and it was just an extension of Indigo Disk's DLC, I'll just judge it a 7/10 for what was provided. It was fun enough, got some great laughs, some fun animations, I just wish there was more to it, and I'll always be a bit bitter that it wasn't the final answers to the story I've been seeking, nor was it more than just a gag Pokemon in the end. Still, I would love more Event Pokemon in this style. No more Zarudes or Zeraoras, give me Pecharunt all day any day.

Has...Oscar tangled at all with the merchant before? Maybe made an impression that made the merchant think "wow this kid is actually kinda annoying" ? It also makes me think, okay if oscar is mentored by madame springs and he succeeds her, that would certainly be a heck of a way for them to be "worse than her."
Nosy persistent conspiracy theorist who wants to uncover your true nature AND who's also trying to run you out of a business in the healing sector? I'd start losing my patience. Tho this is assuming oscar's penchant for the weird lives on even in older age
you know...this is definitely something i need to explore more because!!!! true!!! he is going to eventually replace madam springs, and that means on some level, oscar will know the merchant beyond "npc guy who sells things with limited dialogue options"
for now (and throughout most of the story) oscar is just "the apprentice." madam springs is always still the one to interact with the merchant, and you see oscar just kinda smiling and listening in the background waiting for them to stop bickering.
BUT when oscar DOES interact with the merchant (in a non-buyer-seller context), he IS worse. but its in the "I'm a better healer than madam springs and also she charges too much for the work we do imo." so hes even WORSE competition. and i think this is the only way to actually irritate the merchant, is if you start interfering with his business in a way where he cant oppose you.
lore fact: the merchant really does have the best goods at the best prices!! hes the kind of npc you would see on RPG guides about "if you need [item] you need to / should get it from the merchant because hes the only one that sells it / he has the cheapest price and refresh rate." and the ONLY one who can beat him (not even for everything, just for healing items) is madam springs. so her business is the ONLY thing that is mildly a threat to him, and he hates it. i dont think you see him get irritated at anyone/anything else except her!!
(and he cant steal her formulas or kill her either. "Her business patented the formula before the fall of the witch king, so I'm assuming he can't legally take it and sell it in his own shop." --Sulluvan about madam springs and the merchant)
on the note of oscar trying to uncover his true nature, oscar is smart enough to not mess with it. its mochi and lime who almost fucking die trying to uncover it, against the advice of EVERYONE telling them to leave it alone. the only reason they didnt die is that the merchant spared them because he knew they both still had a part to play that hadn't come to pass yet. (also i want an episode that delves into who/what he is without my main characters dying LMFAO). so after that incident, mochi and lime both tell oscar and the guild about it, so he leaves it alone
(side note: at the moment, lime is actually the one in the guild who knows the merchant the best, strangely. i think its the black canvas thing about him, that whatever magic the merchant uses that prevents people from questioning his nature, it doesnt work on lime. and by "knows him the best" i mean he gets a bit more cryptic dialogue from him than the others)

just finished fetch quest and GOD, what a good show. truly the best light-hearted palette cleanser after the end of dndads season 1
anthony getting a chance to play was honestly such a joy, and wills dming was such a refreshing and oddly interactive time!
(spoilers under the cut)
i fucking LOVED donut. i feel like matt did really well with darryl in dndads but donut really helped show a lot of range for him imo and hes just.... so SOFT. i would die for donut. he would be the recipient of so many belly rubs
the absolute bastard energy between beignet and mochi too... absolute perfection. these two single-handedly could bring about a social media revolution and i would thank them for it (and also bow to my new furred overlords)

for my going away thing ~A and i are going to cooking vegan korean and i need to meal plan and figure out where everyone will sit. it is on sunday, today is wednesday. 16 people are coming (including us, if no one bails). this is the meal plan so far
mains
a friend is bringing kimbap
another friend is bringing braised potatoes
we'll make bulgogi, loosely based on this recipe but with fable mushroom instead of impossible mince. we made this once before and it was incredibly delicious. sweet and savoury and saucy and satisfying. i'll make it the day before and then put in an oven dish to heat up in the oven, maybe i'll make some extra sauce and keep it aside to stir thru if the oven dries it out.
we might also make sundubu jjigae. i've never made this before so i'm a bit nervous to make it for the first time for a group of people?? but i think it would be good to have another wet dish to have with rice, and a stew seems relatively easy to cook for a lot of people. i think i'd have to make this on the day, in our big pot.
maybe raboki. we made this once before and it was so so delicious. ultimate comfort food. idk if it will be too much though. it has tteokbokki and ramen in it already... so i am unsure if it will complicate what people put in their bowls... with the rice situation... it's so good tho. and last time we made it in our wok and that worked. AND i could make this the day before but idk how i'd reheat :/
braised tofu - this is just so easy and delicious, so why not!!!! and i'll make it in the oven so it won't take up valuable stove space.
sides
rice. base for bulgogi and sundubu jjigae. make on the day in our medium pot.
kimchi (which we made two days ago and is fermenting on our bench now). pickle element.
spicy cucumber salad - i might make this less spicy so that it is a relief from other spicy things. fresh crunch element.
seared carrots - just fun to have. i like having lots of little sides that go well together and i think we did this last time and it was delicious. might not have the stove space for it... but tbh this would be fine at room temp if we make it earlier.
Bumchimgae/pancakes - if ~A can be bothered to make these. fiddly to do for a big group with all the other stuff so idk if it will happen. he made them before and they were delicious but not essential imo. i think lack of stove space will mean this doesn't happen.
sweets
this is fully up to what ~A feels like doing coz i am not gonna do sweets. i think no sweets is not the end of the world. he made korean style red bean mochi once and it was YUM. but a kinda time intensive thing to do. i also found these other recipes if he feels like it
dalgona. yummy. i have not seen squid game.
baked yakgwa. never had this, looks yummy and perhaps not too complicated.
we only have a four burner stove top and it can only fit two big pots on it at once (it can fit two big and two small tho). so stove space will be the real challenge. i wanna get as much done as possible before people arrive and also decide if we're all gonna sit at tables or not!! so figuring out my order of events is the next step

Tsukimi festival and the music box of chapter 91
Tumblr media
A couple people have pointed out that the boy and girl rabbits in Nene’s music box represent Hanako and Nene. I think this is actually a very important symbol and could actually offer a lot of insight into Nene’s mentality when she said she would stay here.
In the timeline of the story, Obon passed a little while ago. That means the next big festival in Japan, Tsukimi, is fast approaching. And this has a lot of thematic implications. One, Tsukimi has origins in the Japanese nobility writing poetry while gazing at the moon’s reflection on the surface of the water. Two, it is a gratitude festival. And three, one of the main legends associated with Tsukimi is that there are two rabbits kneading mochi on the moon. Maybe you can see where I’m going with this:
Tumblr media
Nene has made it clear that, before she described living a long life, that she wanted to go to the moon together with Hanako. Throughout the manga, be it the severance or this scene, there is a constant underlying wish of Hanako living with her. She's not really sure how this would work, but she declares these things boldly and Nene-ly. Yet, it seems this option is becoming more and more unrealistic. And he also keeps trying to send her off alone with that hat of a brain he has.
Tumblr media
So she looks down firmly at the reflection of the moon they’ll dance on– the music box. It's melancholy, but it's an ending she will settle with. If the moon is living a long life with Hanako, then its reflection is this after-life situation. She wants to be on the moon making mochi and dancing with the boy she loves, and she’ll settle with its reflection. It’s so romantic, so silly, so Nene— and it must be so, so dissatisfying to her.
Because she so eagerly suggested to him of living 90 years, of experiencing all those ephemeral, simple things that a human life has to offer. She described it with such wonder and shimmer that it even transferred to him. The strength to dare to dream of the impossible. These two not only fell in love with each other, but with life itself. And that’s something beautiful.
But, as the title of chapter 91 suggests, she wants them to fix their mistakes, the two of them. She doesn’t want to continue being selfish and risk more things, even if she loves that moon-dream dearly. And thus, she decides she’s staying here and not going anywhere. No longer pursuing that moon. She’s letting the music box, her cruel fate, unwind. She’ll be grateful for the nothings she has been given and accept that she can no longer live.
-but she’s under the illusion that this after-life would be something similar to life, when it’s not. He already made this choice– to abandon life and stop dreaming. And he’s looking at the girl he loves refusing to look up, becoming more like how he was before her. The last thing he wants is for her to stay here and never leave. Because that is reminiscent of what he did for Tsukasa.
Amane let himself die and stay here. Amane thought it was an act of love. Tsukasa thought it was an act of love. When really, it just made them miserable. (this Amane’s death=love idea is brilliant and not talked about enough imo, the original place I found this idea is mokkemusic's home-bound tsukasa post). And now Nene is thinking this. More than any fate before her, this is the last thing he wants to happen to her. We saw his fear when she mentioned staying locked in a place in the PP arc.
Tumblr media
The idea of her being locked and following the horrible path he went down frightens him to no end. She needs to quickly see what becoming a supernatural entails and he has to be honest for once.
So let’s return to the moment and track Nene’s gaze and the music box in the following panels.
Tumblr media
The way he tells her this is unsettling (I think he wants it to be, he wants her to recognize that ‘death for a lover’ is unsettling and unromantic). He’s not interlocking their fingers in their usual close and tender manner. Her eyes leave the music box briefly, but then immediately trail back to the music box, as she tries to make the decision seem as pretty as it was before Hanako became all chirpy and unfamiliar (similar to how he was during the severance).
Tumblr media
And as he finishes explaining it (in the most horrifying way he can put it), her eyes become blank and unreflective. The “why would you say such a thing” is reminiscent of the picture perfect arc, when he first told her about her death.
Tumblr media
And this is usually why he doesn't want her to fully understand these things. Because they're horrifying. Because sweet Nene doesn’t want to die die. She thought she could stay in the after-life with Hanako in a sort of happy pseudo-living in her mochi-making moongazing fix-up plan™. But the options actually before her in that path are so bleak. And- and as much as I love to tease Nene about this, it’s fucking tragic. These poor fucking kids. None of their plans are working, and the world just wants her to settle on her death like a falling leaf. Hell, even so much of the fandom does.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And she lets go of the music box and breaks down, struggles and pulls his hair. Her music box falls uselessly to the ground in the process (off-screen, we see it in the later panel shown above). He captures her hands, and how Hanako treats her henceforth is so tender.
Tumblr media
Like how he did in PP arc, he cups her cheeks and affectionately tilts her face back up. And he explains the things that he adores about her that most would consider purely flaws— those playful, human, silly, Nene things that inspired him and filled him with life despite his death. That made him see everything differently. Those things she was trying to abandon right now. He wants her to be selfish. He wants him to be a little selfish. Why should they be grateful when this is what they’re given? What harvest have they been given? Why shouldn’t they fight back a little? Nene showed him her strength and fragility and revived those traits in him from his indifference. As tiny light says, she gave him the strength to simply wish wholeheartedly.
So damn it, they deserve to wish a little more. Because despite the mess they’re making, they don’t want to give up just yet. So I just just can’t be angry at them if they start following whatever trail Tsukasa is leading them down. And, speaking of that boy, Tsukasa showing up and reminding Amane of how he gave up is so painful. Because now Amane has the will to hope and not give up, not wanting Nene to either. And Tsukasa is going to exploit that. I truly can’t wait to see how this plays.
I have a lot more to add but this is getting long and I'm a bit snoozy so I’ll shut up now.
…..
….........
SOME EXTRA FOOD FOR THOUGHT☆ ~('▽^人)  (I’m too snoozy for full sentences and picture linking now but I need to talk more)
❤the famous tsukimi story involves the rabbit offering to throw itself into the fire as food for the old man who came.
❤in the Chinese version of the tradition, the elixir of immortality is what the rabbit is preparing, often accompanied by Chang’e, the Chinese Moon Goddess.
❤the alice in wonderland art released a little before this chapter is very evocative of the music box (mechanical themes, similar toys). Except only Hanako is the rabbit. Along w furthering the music box arg, in the themes of alice in wonderland, Hanako could’ve been leading her to fall down the hole (she’s the kannagi). But of course we know our boy fell in love.
❤A lot of people are pointing out the Karuto and Hanako comparison. I think it’s valid, and my two cents on it is that, yes, Iro does want us to recall that. And they're trying to contrast the two narratives right now. I doubt they’re going to end tbhk the same way (I’m risking looking like an idiot in the future but I’m stupidly confident). Because
   1) short stories tend to have more shocking endings, because they have less time to develop a well-constructed narrative and rely on the ending to leave the reader
   2) Aidairo is very self-aware, and will not repeat a storyline twice.
   3) Hanako and Karuto are so different. Karuto sounded like he was trying to convince himself why Lily and him shouldn’t die though it’s clearly the first thing he wants to do (almost brushing off those reasons). Hanako is just stating facts and sounds so darn genuine in how the last thing he wants is for Nene to die. [insert his imagination of Nene’s life proceeding happily panel ch 86] More than anything he wants her to experience those things she can't experience with him. It’s part of his whole arc in how he’s learning to love life
   4) Nene and Lily are so different. Lily wanted to stay with Karuto and only Karuto. Nene has expressed time and time again that she loves life as well as Hanako, and the stubborn little thing doesn’t truly want to just settle for one of them
❤[the Nene and Kou apple eating picture, nene more hesitant] See her hesitance here. Kou is far more willing to become a supernatural than Nene. Because Nene loves life.
❤I’m pretty sure in the original japanese, Nene uses ‘together language’ when describing their plan (we need to change how we’re thinking about this, begin our happy after-life). Because she’s trying to get them to do this together.
❤I wonder if maybe the tears in Tsu’s eyes are because Hanako swung his knife.
Okay I’ll shut up this time fr fr
