He was a caudillo from Alto Perú; now Bolivia, who fought for the american independence. Liberator and commander of the forces of Cochabamba, winner in the Battle of Aroma, he was until 1814 one of the main leaders of the emancipation movement in the north of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata. Today 14th of September is the anniversary of the revolution of Cochabamba, that was the first revolutionary outbreak produced in Alto Peru, after the uprisings of Chuquisaca and La Paz of 1809 against the Spanish authorities of the Viceroyalty of Rio de la Plata were put down. It took place in 1810 and was headed by Colonel Francisco del Rivero, Esteban Arze and Melchor Guzmán.
