Inspired by the post about informal versions of ‘you’ or informal ways of referring to someone about post reveal pre-relationship~!

Just imagine! 

So Marinette and Adrien are suited up as Ladybug and Chat Noir and they have an unspoken rule to only refer to each other as the person they’re presenting themselves/dressed up as to ensure that their identities are safe. 

And during an intense battle, one of them gets badly hurt (most likely to protect the other) and the other one cradles them on their lap in a safe place, whispering out their partner’s true name! 

Lemme just put a snippet as an example:

“Chat Noir! Chat Noir...mon Chaton...hang in there...” Ladybug rasped, lightly patting her unconscious partner’s cheek as she rested his pained head on her lap whilst combing her spare fingers through his hair. The bumps and lacerations that she spotted hiding under his golden hair, coating her fingers and his locks with blood, only fanned the flames of fury that bubbled in the pit of her stomach, urging her to end their long-time enemy right there and then.

But her Chaton’s health and wellbeing mattered so much more than delivering a well deserving demise against Le Papillon.

The last thing she ever wanted was for her partner to wake up in pain...and alone. She knew just how much he hated solitude and it would shatter her heart anew if she put him through that. And knowing him? He would smile and bear it all as if nothing has happened.

“Mon Chaton...please, wake up,” Her lips wobbled, the destruction and fear that the Akuma was spreading in the distance and the terrified screaming of Parisians fell on deaf ears. Ladybug then bent down to press her forehead against his, her heart pounding within her chest whilst his was slow and steady under her fingertips.

“Adrien...please,”

She was suddenly met with the gleam of twin emeralds under his tousled fringe, a pained groan escaping his throat before he plastered it with his iconic, silly smile on his chapped lips.

“Go...I’ll be fine. Go save Paris, Marinette,” He urged, his aching but strong hand tender on her cheek and his eyes filled with determination. “Give me a little while to gather my bearings and I’ll join you in an instance, I promise, Marinette!”

With a kiss to his forehead, she nodded and placed him against the wall of one of the many derelict buildings, swinging away but not without one last glance at her beaming partner who only brightened with faith and love.

She will save Paris.

And she will save him.

Chat Noir and Ladybug looked and each other and nodded. They ran toward a hidden area, and instinctively Chat Noir almost ran to hide separately from her but tripped over himself when he suddenly diverted his path when remembered he could stay with her.

“You okay there, Chaton?”

He blushed for a moment and shook his head trying to get his head to stop spinning.

“Yeah, I’m okay, bugaboo,” he said trying to return to his confident persona.

Ladybug instinctively opened her mouth to retort. But she made the mistake of looking into his eyes. Which even with the green sclera his eyes were still his. Her stomach somersaulted realizing that Adrien was the one calling her that. She shut her mouth quickly, concerned Chat Noir might notice her gaping.

Chat Noir was so absorbed in trying to steady his own heart he didn’t notice the lack of admonishment from that particular nickname.

this one is ridiculous really. chat noir sees marinette detransform and just neglects to say anything to ladybug. the same day, ladybug sees adrien detransform and also doesn't speak up.

they're really stupid about it.

adrien turns around in his seat to smile randomly at marinette during class (djwifi is like wtf). ladybug stares at chat noir like she's hypnotized and he's like "um you can let go of me now?" and she drops him off a building. marinette goes off on chat noir for saying adrien agreste's new commercial is stupid then forces him to eat six croissants. adrien spends an entire akuma-rescue-mission rambling to ladybug about his talented designer friend who he also thinks is super pretty and distracts her and makes them crash into a wall.

meanwhile adrinette are super awkward and eye-contacty and affectionate at school and their whole class is like 🤨 and alya is like "girl did something happen" and marinette is like "whaaaaattt why would you say that"

Surely, this is a foolproof plan, aside from some minor details, like her already being in a relationship. Or her best friend being in love with him. Or the fact that every person who'd attended Collège Françoise Dupont with them knew about her best friend's feelings. Or that fact that Alya doesn't know the first thing about dating someone in the public eye. Other than those things, it's a totally foolproof plan.

The sharp clacking of heels against the tiles echoed through the cavernous foyer of the estate formerly belonging to Gabriel Agreste. Adrien Agreste stood at the foot of the stairs, one hand on the handle of his suitcase and the other clutching the strap of his duffel against his shoulder, waiting with heart heavy in his chest.

Amelie Graham de Vanily came to a full stop in front of him before dragging her eyes across his figure with a frown.

Echoes ricocheted off stark white walls, muffled only by his pounding heartbeat as Marinette led him to the corner of the landing. Even before she stopped and turned around, Adrien knew he wouldn’t be able to handle the look in her eyes. She squeezed his hand, unshed tears clinging to her lashes. “Adrien, I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine…” In lieu of finishing her thought, she pulled him in for a hug, one he scarcely managed to return. He couldn’t even put his arms around her; his hands were too busy shaking at his sides. Instead he fixed his eyes on the wall, where he swore he could see his shadow tremble too. There was too much to process. His father being Hawk Moth. Nathalie dying. His mother…well, he didn’t even know what to make of her situation. Adrien wanted to shout. He wanted to implode, to wither away. He wanted to be normal.

WHAT I'M EXCITED ABOUT:

...so. There were parts of this story that caused me trouble like you wouldn't believe, but the final chapter is essentially just smut and I spent enough of my twenties hanging around kink memes to know that PWP comes easy to me. So this was not the part I was stressing about while trying to keep the deadline for finishing the fic. And the irony is that life literally happened and I have not had the energy to write, far less get into the headspace for this one, for the last few months. There's no one part of it I'm more excited to write than the rest; it's two virgins trying to figure out sex together while carrying the story's theme of having to hide except from the one person who shares the same secret. I mostly just want to get it off my to do list.

There are only two future parts of it I have a clear vision of, so I'll guess my answer will be Adrien modelling the winner of Gabriel's bowler hat competition!

The reason it took me ten years to post this was that I really wanted Apollo's first Christmas in Khura'in and Klavier just happens to have a layover there.

Whatever.” She made a few empty gestures with the marker, and the loose cap flew off the end, bouncing off the wall and rolling off her desk.

Multi-chapter. This fic is just so real and messy and beautiful. The mutual pining is absolutely perfect! The backstory and how that impacts their current dynamic is so well woven through and adds another layer to their relationship. But also, I love the lack of perfection, that these are real people with real flaws and the way that all plays out. I absolutely love this fic!

Multi-chapter. I absolutely love the early reveal in this fic. I’ve read a lot of reveals, but this one is really fun and original! And then the premise of the fic itself isn’t one I’ve seen anywhere else, which makes it very different from the usual PRPR fare. Because even though they both know...they can’t actually talk about it. And it’s so interesting and different and sweet?

One-shot. @emsylcatac‘s fics never go the way that I expect them to, and I really love that about her writing. Although this starts off really silly, the way Adrien expresses himself at the end wasn’t something I saw coming at all, even though it’s SO TRUE to his character. The pining and miscommunication is wonderful, but it’s the ending that really sells me on this one.

Consecutively, it has been exactly 17 days, 2 hours and 12 minutes since he constantly fought the insurmountable desire to kiss the said friend.

One-shot. The yearning in this fic is absolutely e x q u i s i t e . I love it when Adrien stops flirting post-reveal and Marinette takes it the wrong way. And they’re just SO STUPID here, and then they get to be adorable in love dorks.

One-shot but a lengthy one-shot. How about some post-Oblivio fic that has the magical ladybugs NOT erase their memories of the fight (because lbr that made no sense anyway)? Oblivio is probably my favourite episode and this is such a great fic. The mutual pining is so, so, so good! Especially love Marinette struggling to assimilate Adrien’s identities and Adrien’s obliviousness.

Adrien just wants to know who Marinette has been in love with this entire time, but she refuses to budge. Accidentally reading a part of her diary, however, gives Adrien the answers he has been looking for.

One-shot. So you may not know this about me, but I’m absolute sucker for the trope of Adrien fixating on the boy Marinette loves post-reveal. (And tbf for him fixating on the boy Ladybug loves pre-reveal.) I love how well done the miscommunication is here, where their failure to confess makes sense and all of the tension naturally follows.

One-shot. This one is really interesting because of both its device--a game of Truth or Drink--and its use of non-linear storytelling. Even though the fic is set post-reveal, we get all kinds of flashbacks to memories of their pre-reveal interactions that really illuminate the present and are extremely well woven into the narrative. I also really appreciated how honest Adrien was about his feelings, even with their relationship being so ambiguous.

And the tension between them just builds and builds and builds until I thought I was going to die! But instead it all leads to a phenomenal resolution.

Will they learn to talk openly and vulnerably, the way they used to in the pods? Or will their insecurities drive them apart?

At the end of “Reunion” I find it so interesting when Marinette says 

the fact that Marinette immediately finds an impediment to her potential relationship with Chat Noir, is almost entirely in line with what she is doing with Adrien. In short, it almost seems like Marinette is purposely sabotaging any chance at having a romantic relationship.

Jeanne (Joan of Arc rather?) never said that this was the eventuality of miraculous holders. In fact, what led to her own decision to give up her miraculous, was a very unique set of circumstances that don’t even apply to Marinette. Marinette, and Chat Noir for that matter, aren’t being forced by their rulers/governments to fight in a war against one another. More importantly, their powers aren’t being taken advantage of by their countries. The main factors that led to Jeanne giving up her miraculous had little do to with her love for Dark Grimalkin and had much more to do with her desire to leave her position as a pawn of the state.

Marinette, as she often does, catastrophized her situation and came to the worse possible scenario, that she either had to choose being in a loving relationship or being Ladybug.

I think that Marinette’s question here is less based on reality and is rather, more indicative of her current state of anxiety. As many people have said before me, Marinette stresses the most over situations that she can’t control, and being led by her emotions, her falling for another boy, her opening herself up to the possibility of rejection, all take a lot of her control out of the equation.

When Adrien first begins to show serious interest for Marinette, is when she asserts that she isn’t in love with him, this is when she avoids him, and flees situations where he might reveal his feelings to her. Marinette here, is attempting to gain as much control possible, if he never confesses, she never has to deal with her still lingering feelings, she never has to worry about the possibility of more between them.

This is the same thing she is doing here with Chat. It’s interesting to note, her conclusion that “she has to give up her miraculous to be with him” comes after the line where she says that a love story is possible between Ladybug and Chat Noir.

In truth, Marinette, doesn’t fully want to be in a relationship with him. Does she love him? Yes, but she is also afraid of the unknown and of what she can’t control. It is no coincidence that the aforementioned lines go hand-in-hand. She has no real intention, as Tikki so frankly says in Passion, on making good on her feelings. It’s really Marinette’s anxiety that is creating the one actual boundary between herself and getting what she wants. 

Whether it is Adrinette or Ladynoir, or even a PRPR relationship that becomes canon first, there’s no denying that what must come before that is Marinette facing her fears and anxiety and allowing herself to finally be with the one she loves.
