I just found this on twitter. Big #shoutout to @stacymdillon on #twitter. I love this reaction. People these days are so uncomfortable with growth. Growth is new. Growth is unknown. To many it’s scary as fuck. I wanna say #happyfathersday to all the amazing fathers out there. I know many of them! Also I have to give a big #shoutout to the black fathers that were taken away from their kids. Edited for posting: Memorial Day was born out of necessity. After the American Civil War, a battered United States was faced with the task of burying and honoring the 600,000 to 800,000 Union and Confederate soldiers who had died in the single bloodiest military conflict in American history. Several towns and cities across America claim to have observed their own earlier versions of Memorial Day or “Decoration Day” as early as 1866. (The earlier name is derived from the fact that decorating graves was and remains a central activity of Memorial Day.) But it wasn’t until a remarkable discovery in a dusty Harvard University archive the late 1990s that historians learned about a Memorial Day commemoration organized by a group of freed black slaves less than a month after the Confederacy surrendered in 1865. . Back in 1996, David Blight, a professor of American History at Yale University, was researching a book on the Civil War when curator at Harvard’s Haughton Library asked if he wanted to look through two boxes of unsorted material from Union veterans. “There was a file labeled ‘First Decoration Day,’” remembers Blight, still amazed at his good fortune. “And inside on a piece of cardboard was a narrative handwritten by an old veteran, plus a date referencing an article in The New York Tribune. That narrative told the essence of the story that I ended up telling in my book, of this march on the race track in 1865.”’ . When Charleston fell and Confederate troops evacuated the badly damaged city, freed slaves remained. One of the first things those emancipated men and women did was to give the fallen Union prisoners a proper burial. They exhumed the mass grave and reinterred the bodies in a new cemetery with a tall whitewashed fence inscribed with the words: “Martyrs of the Race Course.” . #memorialday #freedslaves #slaves #blacklivesmatter#wefight #weresist #wewillwin #outfittingtherevolution #deconstructtheconstruct #blackonblackbk #itslifeordeathforus #blacketyblack #blackonblackbk #blackskin #blacknose #blacklips #blackhair #blackeverything #blackmagician #blaaaaacknificent #blackpower #blackpride #supportblackbusiness #supportblackart (at Bedford-Stuyvesant) https://www.instagram.com/p/CeLzuRZO47s/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

White supremacists don’t actually fear black people. They fear Karma. . You see in a White supeemacist construct, they only know one way. Domination. Excerpt From Vulture.com : "Neeson begins to recount his “transgressions” — which refers to the Irish actor’s unprovoked confession that he once set out to kill any Black man he could find following the sexual assault of a white female friend. Al brushes off Neeson’s admission of anti-Blackness, assuming that he doesn’t “hate Black people now.” (I’m sorry, why are we doing this?) “What? I can’t stand the lot of you,” Neeson clarifies, citing his failed cancellation as a new source of hate. Al is confused by his lack of remorse. “Didn’t you learn that you shouldn’t say shit like that?” he asks. “Yes, but I also learned that the best and worst part about being white is we don’t have to learn anything if we don’t want to,” Neeson answers." . #atlanta #amsterdam #donaldglover #blackonblackbk #blacklivesmatter #blackpower #blackpride #blackprivilege #wefight #weresist #wewillwin #outfittingtherevolution #deconstructtheconstruct #itslifeordeathforus #civilrights #equality #equalityforall no #racism #whitepower #whiteprivilege #alliesandchampions #notagame #resistance https://www.instagram.com/p/Cdj8252u7KR/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

By the time Johnson became president after the assassination of John F. Kennedy in 1963, he was ready to plow all of his political capital to the passage of the civil rights legislation initiated by his predecessor. By most accounts, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 couldn’t have become law when it did had not LBJ personally wheedled, cajoled, and shamed his former colleagues in the House and Senate into voting for it. One of the secrets of his success was the ability to speak the racially insensitive language of his fellow Southerners. He understood them. He understood their reluctance and in some cases downright refusal to tear down the walls of racial segregation. He knew racism from the inside, and he knew well the role the rich and powerful played in promulgating it. . That’s the context of one of the most famous statements on race ever attributed to President Johnson, an off-the-cuff observation he made to a young staffer, Bill Moyers, after encountering a display of blatant racism during a political visit to the South. Moyers tells it in the first person: . We were in Tennessee. During the motorcade, he spotted some ugly racial epithets scrawled on signs. Late that night in the hotel, when the local dignitaries had finished the last bottles of bourbon and branch water and departed, he started talking about those signs. “I’ll tell you what’s at the bottom of it,” he said. “If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.” In the blunt vernacular that he loved to use, LBJ was describing what the television pundits of today would probably call the politics of resentment and divisiveness. It is still very much with us. by David Emery - Published 23 August 2016 . #blacklivesmatter #wefight #weresist #wewillwin #outfittingtherevolution #deconstructtheconstruct #blackonblackbk #itslifeordeathforus #intersectionality #civilrights #humanrights #equality #equalityforall no #racism, #sexism, #classism, #ableism, #homophobia, #transphobia, #xenophobia #alliesandchampions #notagame #resistance (at Bedford-Stuyvesant) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRXLYE1FZBV/?utm_medium=tumblr

September's BXB Club design is ready! Both “Unified” & “Episodes” feature a bright and much-needed, joy-inspiring colorway of Yellow Gold. This month, “Episodes” & “Unified” are respectively titled “Shape of Black Love” & “Shape of Love”. While both ideas are simple and small, they're big calls to put more "love" into the world. When these designs are seen, they force the viewer to say "love" to themselves. This is often the brilliance of visual language. And I’m here for it. . Caption is a repost @fucktrumpchicken (it is what it is) “There was no memorial to it in town. Teachers made no mention of it, not even during a half-semester devoted to local history. “As a 10- and 11-year-old, I would occasionally hear older adults, neighbours, talking about what we then called ‘the riot’ and they would always lower their voices or change the subject,” recalls Ellsworth, now 67. “I started to catch wind of these stories about bodies floating down the Arkansas River, machine guns on the roofs of town, but you couldn’t really find out anything about it.” All that changed one day in 1966 when the local library installed a microfilm reader and Ellsworth and friends fed in daily newspapers from 1921. “We were just gobsmacked: hundreds die, martial law declared,” says the author and historian. The truth that could no longer be denied was that, on 31 May and 1 June 1921, a white mob had attacked Tulsa’s Black Wall Street, killing an estimated 300 people and wounding 800 more while robbing and burning businesses, homes and churches. Planes dropped explosives on the area, razing it to the ground. It remains one of the worst acts of racial violence in American history. Gil Scot-Heron once spoke famously "Ain't No New Thing" . The slides are an excerpt from the Article "How Racism Created America's Chinatowns" by Braden Goyette. . "During the exclusion era, it was difficult for Chinese immigrants to find a place to live outside of Chinatown. "In the broadest strokes, Chinatowns were products of extreme forms of racial segregation," explains Ellen D. Wu, a history professor at Indiana University Bloomington and author of The Color Of Success: Asian Americans And The Origins Of The Model Minority. "Beginning in the late 19th century and really through the 1940s and '50s, there was what we can call a regime of Asian exclusion: a web of laws and social practices and ideas designed to shut out Asians completely from American life." . "That's really how Chinatowns came into being," Wu adds, "not how we think about them now, as a fun place to get a meal or buy some tchotchkes, but as a way to contain a very threatening population in American life." . #antiracism #antioppression #stopaapihate #stopthehate #notyourmodelminority #racismisavirus #stopasianhate  #wefight #weresist #wewillwin #outfittingtherevolution #deconstructtheconstruct #blackonblackbk #itslifeordeathforus #intersectionality #civilrights #humanrights #equality #equalityforall no #racism, #xenophobia #alliesandchampions #notagame #resistance (at Bedford-Stuyvesant) https://www.instagram.com/p/CMkGb6RBidz/?igshid=1ibgm6tlobiv9
