Yuzuru Hanyu's Senior FS Costumes
I. Origin 1.0 (Prince of Darkness)
Note: All the references (interviews, translations, etc.) used for this post are listed below the cut
Tumblr media
In the 2018-2019 season, Yuzuru Hanyu came to compete as the newly crowned double Olympic champion. He dedicated his short program (Otonal) to Johnny Weir and his free program (Origin) to Evgeni Plushenko, two skaters Yuzuru admired since childhood.
Origin 1.0 - the costume which has the aura of the Prince of Darkness, as described by Satomi Ito herself, the costume designer¹. I consider this one of the top iconic Yuzuru Hanyu costumes because it deviates from the usual brightly colored ones (think about the blue-based costumes, for example) and he embraces the dark. I do not mean dark as in only color, but also judging by the vibes. The only other costume I can think of as channeling dark(ness) is Masquerade.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is a striking contrast between the relaxed, skating around Yuzuru Hanyu and the competition mode ON Yuzuru Hanyu. The difference is made specifically by his expression. However, in both instances, the costume seems to create a barrier between him and the rest of the world. Origin 1.0, a black and gold lace-top paired with black velour pants, is the first competition costume worn by Yuzu after winning his second Olympic gold medal and I like to think this costume is made to emphasize that Yuzuru Hanyu is untouchable.
The base of the top is a skin-coloured fabric with overlaid black lace. On the front, the chest's jagged opening creates the illusion of feathers spreading protectively, a subtle dynamism enhanced by the diagonal, slightly winding fabric and golden details orientation. In contrast, on the upper back, the gold fabric follows the curve of the shoulder blades and ribcage, like an exoskeleton, while the lower back's lines are naturally flowing downwards, highlighting the waist. Here and there few dark-red beads can be noticed which confer depth and nuance to the costume.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Origin 1.0 is based on Yuzuru's surname: 『The non-human born of feathers』². As such, the most important detail is represented by the feathers - around 100 handmade black and white feathers by Satomi Ito, applied manually, and the white ones airbrushed black in the middle to maintain the costume's cohesion. Another subtle detail lies in the purple rhinestones. They are seamlessly integrated within the costume so much so that these become noticeable only in close-up photos (see below).
Tumblr media
Contributing to the depth of the costume are the purposefully ripped holes within the lace. Satomi Ito took to making those herself in the process of bringing Origin to life². The holes convey a subtle ragged look, of someone who has seen darkness and embraced it. They complement the entire look beautifully, adding to the Prince of Darkness theme.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Origin 1.0 is one of those costumes made of multiple layers with various details applied without looking heavy or overly ornated. It maintains an apparently basic pattern while being full of hidden gems.
Tumblr media
At the end of another 'incomplete' season (Yuzu injured his ankle during 2018 NHK's FS practice, winning the event despite it, but having to withdraw from GPF and Japan Nationals), Yuzuru commented in a post-Worlds 2019 interview that the black and gold costume was meant to be "accessorized" only with gold medals (paraphrased)³.
--------------------------------
Personally, I have been quite vocal on this blog about my undying love for the Origin sisters. They are in a constant battle to be my favourite.
Today, Origin 1.0 won for four reasons:
1) the theme is right up my alley
2) there is an easily found translation of an interview with Satomi Ito about the making of the costume (and I'm proud to say I understood the costume and the vision before reading the interview)
3) Yuzu won for the first time both of his GP assignments - he really was determined to have only gold associated with Origin 1.0.
4) 2019 Worlds Origin deserved the gold
1. Translation by @/marika_yuzu
2. "Figure Skating Fan" Magazine 2018-2019 『Born from feathers』 Translation

Klaas Rommelaere Johnny
design and editing: Jurgen Maelfeyt

In 2021, Klaas Rommelaere saw Adam Curtis' documentary Can't Get You Out of My Head: An Emotional History of the Modern World. Using found footage, Curtis examines the power structures that shape our world. He touches on themes such as individualism versus collectivism, conspiracy theories, American imperialism, the history of China and artificial intelligence.
The nihilism Rommelaere felt reminded him of Mike Leigh's award-winning 1993 film Naked, in which the intellectual but dominant and violent twenty-something Johnny wanders through gloomy post-Thatcherian London and shares his dark world view with anyone who will listen.
Rommelaere incorporates both “Can't Get You Out of My Head" and "Naked” in his new series Johnny, taking screen shots from both films and printing them on textile; one series on cotton and one on velour. In addition to the dark message of both films, Rommelaere also displays his personal images of doom. For example, he has a panicky fear of snakes - a symbol that recurs frequently in this series - and for a period he was afraid of buildings collapsing, a fear he retained from a trip to Tokyo, where earthquakes regularly occur.
Although he does not want to look away from the pain of the world, he instead places something in return: comfort and beauty. An image from a dance performance by Rosas, for example. Or nature in the form of the orchids in his studio. Yoga too. A focus on human anatomy, which stands for vitality. Rommelaere embroiders 'Chaos' on several of his new works, as well as 'react', 'reload', 'recharge'. And so the Johnny series becomes his highly personal attempt to create order out of chaos.

Christmas Break, Johnny Storm
Word Count:  641
Tumblr media
“Johnny, stop!”
The infamous playboy smiled, keeping his arms locked tightly around you while you giggled, leaning against his chest.
“You know how gorgeous you look right now?” he asked playfully, whispering the compliment against your neck as his heated lips pressed a series of kisses around your sweet spot, “how beautiful you look all lit up by the lights from the tree?   How you’re glowing even without the help of all the little lights we’ve hung up today?”
“Johnny, we have to finish decorating before everyone gets here tomorrow morning!” you teased, “and with how many ‘breaks’ we have had to take to keep your fire…well stoked…we’re not going to get done tonight.”
He smiled, his hands trailing down from your waist to your bare thighs.  You shivered against his natural warmth.  Your body reacted, nipples pebbling while he nipped at your neck.  His sweatshirt, which you had taken during your last exchange when he burned nearly all of your clothes off in an attempt to take a break, was easily a few sizes too big and gave all too easily as he nosed at its collar.
“I’d rather decorate something else, again and again and again…if you haven’t happened to notice,” he purred.  Another shiver ran up your spine at the insinuation.  Your giggles faltered momentarily as you looked over your shoulder, and your eyes met with his azure ones.  It felt like you lost your breath in that moment, while his eyes bore through your very soul, “you okay there, little firefly?  Because if you look at me like that much longer, I know I won’t be able to contain myself…”
“Contain yourself?” you teased, “since when have you ever contained yourself.  You’re like a tornado, Johnny Storm.”
“But when I’m with you, I’m like a moth to a flame!”
“Like a moth to a flame,” you whimpered, repeating his words.  He partially smiled, leaving you feeling like you wanted to feel more of his touch, and give up on decorating the tree for a little bit longer. His smile returned fully as you shimmied around in his grasp, until he was gently massaging your ass through your cheeky panties.  You moaned when he massaged the globes, leaning in to him.  His lips parted ever so slightly as he leaned forward, and you felt the prominent bulge in his sweatpants that was eagerly poking your hip once again, “Johnny.”
“What is it baby?”
Yet another shiver ran down your spine; your brain hearing the lusty, husky hints in his voice.  His eyes met yours again and you whimpered, your thighs instinctively clenching.  He bit his bottom lip, one hand moving around from your ass to tease your hips.  Your back arched and you felt yourself leaning up on your tiptoes.  His face tilted down, meeting with the tops of your covered breasts.
With a gentle huff of warm air, the shirt seemed to disintegrate into ash before you, falling away from your skin without hurting you.
“Johnny.”
“I wanna give you something special for Christmas, baby…” he purred gently.
Before you could question what he was talking about, he shifted, and you couldn’t feel his bulge against your hip anymore.  Your brow furrowed as he pulled away from you and dropped to one knee.  You gasped, your hands finding your mouth, while your arms covered your bare chest, “Johnny…wh-what are you doing?”
“Make me the happiest man ever,” he began gently, his own eyes watering as he opened a black velour box, “You’ve been my little light in the dark for the better part of a year…you found me when I was at a low in my life, and you made me feel like more than just some playboy…more than a superhero…I want to share my life with you…every part of it and myself…”
“J-Johnny…”
“Marry me, baby…”

But what if…. Silver fox! Johnny’s baby came to him asking to break their arrangement? He’s gonna assume it cause of Jordan and maybe it’s because she is in love with her daddy?
“You told me when we started that I could end this anytime I want.” You won’t look at him, you can’t look at him and he finds himself stewing because of it. “Did you mean that?”
“Why are you asking?” Johnny got you a drink, your favourite and he picked up those chocolates you loved, the ones from the vintage delicatessen you dragged him to.
He got you everything you needed or wanted, and it all went untouched.
“Y/N if this is about Jordan-“
“Its not about Jordan.” You cut him off, your voice strained. “Did you mean it, when you said I could end it?”
Johnny’s heart stops and he feels his stomach churning angrily. He wants to pull the reason out of you, he wants to hold you down and stroke your hair until you cave.
“Yes,” he reached for your hand and brushes his fingers against your knuckles, “it stops anytime you want but baby…I don’t understand.”
“Please don’t call me that.” You stand, still not able to look at him fully. “I can’t do this anymore. I don’t want to do this anymore.”
“Can you give me a reason? Y/N, sweetheart…I really enjoy your company.” Johnny wasn’t the arrogant or cocky rich hero his reputation made him out to be, in this moment he was scared and in love.
“I…have too. But I need to break it off.” You cleared your throat, eyes still downcast. “Thank you for everything.”
He doesn’t move when you leave, he doesn’t move from the spot until he hears the door close and then he’s off. He rises to his feet and stumbles after you, his legs weak as he opens the door and expects to find you there but you’re gone.
He stands there for a long time, he stands there stunned until he slowly closes the door, his brows furrowing.
And after it sinks in, Johnny plays with the velour box in his pocket, wondering what in the hell to do now.

what we like about this outfit :
The Cake Ruffle Mini dress : how to be snatched without being snatches so much that you can't breathe ? RUFFLES ! This cut allow your silhouette to look a lot more like an hourglass shape, especially with the collar that will make your shoulders more squary and less roundy !
The hand painted platforms : first of all : colors, shapes, flowers, love it. We want more of the hand painted platform shoes this summer cause we are all winx in disguise.
The JOHNNY WAS embroidery tote bag : a handmade embroidery bag with fantastic velours looking material ? Coooooool.
The Jossel&Co sunglasses : This turtleshell color is the thing I hate the most in clothings, but absolutely adore in sunglasses and jewelery. Wear it. Also, this shape is just making your face so fancy. Muah.
The Jorge Perez earings : SUNSHINE !
The Christian Dior necklace : Okay it's Dior, but you can find a fine necklace that looks like the Dior's one because those square shapes are very fancy right now. You can fight great quality ones on Etsy !
The Byzantine Chanel Bracelet : Chanel. Yes. But what about ETSY again ???
The Yves Saint Laurent Bracelet : YSL YES. BUT HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT ETSY ?????

2024 Seed List
Carry on!
There was no fall planting.  The summer’s deluge kept all things green growing and bushy, but nothing bloomed or fruited.  Timing-wise, the spring planting schedule was perfect and the garden was fully planted and mulched, and weed free!  The greens and peas flourished.  All the roots and brassicas germinated.  The companion planting was perfect.  The kale was prolific right out of the gate, combination of transplants, regrowth and self germination.  I purchased celeriac and cabbage and brussel sprout seedlings, got them in early and they were robust.  I managed to germinate 12 zucchini plants and nasturtiums. I had 4 different types of sweet potato slips successfully transplanted.  My lupines returned and even bloomed. And for a few verdant weeks all was picture perfect.  Then the rains set in, things got bigger and bushier.  All the root crops remained tiny threads with giant green tops.  The radish-turnip-pepper companion planting fell apart as the radish tops over-shadowed everything and the pepper plants rotted away.
Years past I have purchased predominantly from PineTree Seeds because their prices have been lowest. Not this year.  This year they are among the most expensive, and their assortment is not interesting.  Johnny Seed and Territorial Seed have historically been the most expensive but have the greatest variety, but this year Johnny Seed is in the middle range because they sell so many more seeds per package.  I like to get more seeds from Hudson Valley Seeds and Fruition Seeds because both companies are actually in my planting zone and offering seed varieties that grow here, and that I should therefore be able to grow here without too much difficulty. Fruition is in the middle range this year, and Hudson Valley among the least expensive. They do not, however, have a great variety.  Burpee always has something new that I fall for.  And to be fair, their new varieties are always good.  RH Shumway also always has something different, and I find their old fashioned newsprint, black & white catalogue charming.
The following seed list is comprised of just the edibles I am ordering.
Legumes:
Bush beans: “Velour”. A compact, bush-habit plant, very heavy-bearing bright purple, stringless pods over a long season.  This is my top choice for bush beans. Very heat and drought tolerant. This past season it was the only summer bean to produce.  Finding it can be tricky. This year, Hudson Valley Seed has them.
Fava beans- “Varoma” from Johnny Seeds.  Whereas last year there were 5 or 6 varieties on the market, this year only Johnny Seed has any variety besides Broad Windsor. I have had good success with Varoma in the past few years.  I had spent several years, a decade ago, trying to grow Broad Windsor without luck.
Noodle beans: May take a break from these this year.  Or plant what I already have. They are yardlong, shoestring pod, pole beans that have a very nutty flavor. But they require very strong support.
Pole beans- “Cave Beans” a 1500 year old heirloom from the southwest from RH Shumway. “Hank’s Xtra Special Bake Bean”, rare heirloom from Hudson Valley Seed.  These are random choices because they sound interesting.
Runner beans:  I have a lot of these that were never planted in the past two years so, maybe they make it into the ground this year. They are sweet and rich flavor, a bit like fava bean, but meatier, good in salad or soup.
Shelling Peas: “Dual Pea” from RH Shumway is a fast growing, medium sized shelling pea with 12 peas per pod.  Nothing compares to the taste of a raw, fresh shelling pea.
Snap Peas: “Sugar Daddy” is an award-winning snap pea from Hudson Valley Seed.  Fast growing and bush type. I also saved a bunch from the 2023 harvest, so will certainly plant those.
Soybeans: “Panther” from Hudson Valley Seeds.  I only ever eat soybeans steamed, in the pods with salt as a finger food snack.
  Fruits:
“Cardoon” I will buy seedlings from the local nursery – there were plenty available last year so hopefully the trend continues. Looks like aloe vera and tastes like artichoke. It is cold hardy and perennial – I have seen it in botanical gardens, in winter, here about alongside Salad Burnett.
Corn – “Kandy Corn” a sweet corn from Burpee.  This is a variety I have grown successfully in the past. It is an enhanced sugar variety making it exceptionally sweet.
Cucumber- “Double yield” double duty pickling and slicing variety from Hudson Valley Seed.
Eggplant:  I will buy seedlings from the local nursery. Need a break after 3 years of germinating hundreds of exotics and getting no fruit.
Gourds- No gourds this year! Pinky swear.
Melon – “True Jenny Lind” aromatic musk melon from Hudson Valley Seed. “Olympic Express” from Burpee is a prolific, early maturing orange melon.
Okra – “Baby Budda” has proved to be the most successful – small, compact plant suitable for patio containers, super productive and early maturing from Burpee.
Pepper – I will buy seedlings from the local nursery. Haven’t had a decent harvest since I planted them in the orchard, so I’m taking a break from germinating them.
Tomatoes – I will shop locally for other seedlings.  Not starting my own this year.  Plenty of varieties of seedlings are available.
Watermelon: “Sweet Siberian” yellow fleshed, short season small from Hudson Valley. “Ambrosia” small, sweet and short season red flesh from Fruition Seeds.
Winter Squash and pumpkins: “Candy Roaster” winter squash from Hudson Valley Seed, a banana shaped heirloom from Apalachia.  And I still have a ton of unused seeds to try from the past two years.
Zucchini- “Cupcake”from Burpee – a new hybrid that is round like a bell pepper and supposed to be excellent for stuffing. Expensive.
Roots:
Beets: I’m refocused on cylindrical beets, for spacing purposes. “Cylindra” from Hudson Valley Seed
Carrot: pelleted seeds was a waste.  So back to regular seeds, I’ve ordered “Yellowstone”, a 9-inch yellow variety from Hudson Valley Seed.
Celeriac: I will buy seedlings from the local nursery. This worked so much better than growing from seeds.
Parsley Root: Not doing it this year.
Parsnips: Ordered “White Spear” from Territorial Seed which is a yard long(!) variety. I winter sowed some this past fall, in the front flower bed, with the garlic.
Potatoes:  Going back to growing them in containers. I will buy some from the store and sew them to avoid the horrible shipping costs.  “Makah Ozette” This looks like a fingerling variety of Occa, a small south American tuber predating the potato.  It is supposed to be nutty and creamy, from Burpee. I’m a sucker.
Radish: like beets, I’m focused on cylindrical radishes. “Nelson” an improved French breakfast type, from Johnny Seed. “Shunkyo” a Chinese long, hot-sweet daikon, carrot shapped for spacing.
Rutabaga: Not doing it this year. Unless I plant the seeds I already have.
Sweet Potatoes: Growing my own slips over winter.  Will grow in containers since the floods stunted their growth in 2023.
Turnips: “Long Noir” a long, black-skinned turnip that is very sweetfrom Fruition Seed. “Scarlett OhNo Revival” a red skin, white flesh turnip with edible greens from Hudson Valley.
Greens:
Arugula: “Wild Arugula” the fast growing, heat tolerant, wild heirloom variety from Hudson Valley Seed.
Chard: “Perpetual” a long season, heat resistant that regrows for several years from Territorial Seed. “Silverado” a large, silver chard from Hudson Valley seeds with short, tender stems, heat resistant and makes a good spinach substitute in the hot summer.
“Claytonia” from Fruition Seeds. It is a succulent green that looks like a bouquet of little lily pads.
Escarole: “Batvian Full Heart” from Hudson Valley Seeds. Good for braising and bean soups.
Lettuce: “Sunland” a heat resistant romaine with very thick, crisp leaves from Johhny Seeds.  Early varieties “Ithaca” NY State iceberg and “North Pole” from Hudson Valley Seed. “Wildest Mix” from Territorial Seed
Mache: “Mache” from Hudson Valley Seed. “NY Hardy Mache” from Fruition  Seeds.
Orach: “Ruby Red Orach” from Hudson Valley Seed; a violet red, velvet leafed spinach that grows on an 18 inch, upright stalk.
Radicchio: “Red Traviso” a loose leaf red variety from Burpee. The only radicchio I could find for less than $6 dollars a packet.
Spinach: “Giant Winter” from Fruition Seeds.
Brassica:
Asian Greens: “Tatsoi” fast growing 6-inch rosette from Hudson Valley Seed.  “Celtuce” Spring Tower, a tall lettuce with a celery like stalk, from Johnny Seed.
Broccoli: “Turkish Rocket”, a perennial broccoli raab from Fruition Seeds.
Chinese Cabbage: “Red Trumpet” a tall, fluted pink variety from Johnny Seed.
Cauliflower: “Baby Hybrid” a small 3 inch heads with edible leaves, from RH Shumway.  Other than that, I will buy seedlings of “Fioretto” an open head, branching cauliflower, and for “Romanesco” a green, geometric looking pyramid crown hybrid that has a very nutty flavor.
Collards: champion from Hudson Valley Seeds
Kale: “Autumn Star Kalettes” from RH Shumway, are a cross between kale and Brussels sprouts that look like kale roses.  “Mermaid mix” from Fruition Seeds is a baby kale mix of lacy, frilly, purple, blue and green kales.
Mustard: “Wasabina” a frisse variety mustard that tastes like wasabi/horse radish from Hudson Valley Seeds. “Giant Red Indian” mustard, I don’t plant this anymore because it self-seeds everywhere.
And, because they seem to go with the brassicas in planting rotations, the alums:
Chives: still have seeds left from last year.
Garlic:  I planted several heads of both standard and elephant garlic in the front flower bed in the fall.
Leek: I have better luck with buying the sets instead of starting from seed.
Onion: I am doing the regrow project.  It works very well.
Scallions: I am doing the scallion regrow project.
Shallots: “Cuisse du Poulet du Poitou Shallot” from Fruition Seeds are shallots the size of a chicken thigh.  I’m obsessed and can’t let go.  Germinated it but never got it past yarn width sets because of the rain.
Flowers for companion planting:
Marigold:  “Mexican Mint” a Mexican variety that tastes like anise and tarragon, from Hudson Valley Seeds. Plus I have plenty of giant gold and orange seeds left.
Nasturiums: “Tall Trailing Mix” vining variety that grows to 6 feet long from Territorial Seed.
Herbs for companion planting:
Basil:  will buy seedlings to keep in pots and plant under the tomatoes
Borage: I have seeds left from previous years, and it self-seeds.
Dill: I can buy seedlings locally.  It is best to plant in pots or flower beds just to keep it away from the root crops.
Lovage:I have an established plant so I need to start harvesting the seeds to resow elsewhere.
Marjoram:  waiting to see if it re-grows in the garden where I planted it 2023
Tarragon: waiting to see if it re-grows in the garden where I planted it 2023
Angelica: “Holy Ghost” did not germinate so we will try again.
 Grains and Seeds:
Amaranth:  Spinach variety “Cataloo” from Territorial Seed.
Quinoa: “Dejulis Pink Quinoa” from Hudson Valley Seed, rivals Love Lies Ableeding amaranth.

Jordyn and Johnny spent most of their nights in the study, working on their term papers. Jordyn couldn’t help but sneak glances up at him the entire night; his comments about therapy the other day wouldn’t leave her mind. “Hey, can I ask you something?” she asked finally. “Sure,” Johnny muttered without looking up from his laptop.
Tumblr media
“What’s up, weaklings!?” Luna said, bursting into the room in her shimmery pink velour tracksuit. “Look who just got hotter!” “Luna, please,” Jordyn sighed. “We’re writing our term papers.”
Tumblr media
“Girl, this is way more important than a paper!” Luna exclaimed. “Do you see how buff I am? I’m basically a gym rat, like the gains on this bod do not stop!” Jordyn looked up to see Luna making ridiculous poses. “You look great, as always,” Jordyn said.  “You’re damn right,” she said. “I’m gonna hit the gym and flex on em a bit. Don’t wait up.” “We won’t,” said Jordyn.
Tumblr media
Luna tried therapy. Talking about her feelings didn’t really work for her, leaving her feeling more vulnerable and sad than she already did. She didn’t want to talk, and as it turned out, therapy was all talking! So, she needed to put her energy to use elsewhere: the gym. Working out came so naturally to her, and felt like the release she was looking for.
Tumblr media
She loved how powerful and strong it made her feel. She also loved how hot it made her look, and the stares it got her from men across the room. She felt in control, and was in desperate need of that feeling.
Tumblr media
Luna heaved out a heavy breath when she sat up on the machine. She made eye contact with an alright looking dude from across the gym. He smiled at her and she pretended not to notice him, heading back to her set.
Tumblr media
“Are those space pants?” the guy asked, walking up to her briskly. “Cus that ass is outta this world!” “Nope, stop,” Luna said, holding her hands up to him. “Wait, what?” said the dude. “I was just trying to-”
Tumblr media
“I know what you’re trying to do,” Luna said, holding her hands up defensively. “You’re flirting with me, using really tired pick up lines at that. I’m not here to fuck some random dude.” “Who said anything about-” “Don’t patronize me, ok?” Luna said. “You can look, but you do not look like you earn even a fraction of what it costs to touch. Got it?”
Tumblr media
Luna flipped her hair and walked away, leaving the dude looking mortified. She chanced a glance behind her, wanting to see the devastation on his face. It wasn’t therapy, but she felt a tiny, tiny bit better.

Somehow, someway.. Instagram didn’t transfer my posts over to tumblr 😬
So May 9th, I got to see the gorgeous, the beautiful, the phenomenal, Sasha Velour in NYC for The Big Reveal book tour-drag show!! 🤯🙌🏾
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I wrote last year about how heartbroken I was that Sasha had to cancel their show, while I was sewing a costume for it. Well after a European tour, a hiatus, and a whole Book launch, she finally had another show in NYC!!
I finished the costume, and the gloves.. I decided I would cover the shoes at our hotel in NYC, because the show wasn’t until 8:30pm
Tell me why I get an email FROM the theater with Meet & Greet instructions, and what time to be there, huh?!
I called the theater to make sure because I wasn’t tryna show up and they were like, “oops, that’s a mistake,” and turn my ass around. They confirmed that my tickets were INDEED vip tickets. My stomach drops to my pinky toe, because what the fuck?! I’m about to meet Sasha?! 🤯
The clock says 3:15pm and we got 2 1/2 hours to get ready and get out of here. Our lil’ hotel room becomes a studio. Thread and lace and makeup and shit all over the place.
My husband is my armor bearer, doing anything and everything he can to get me out the door. He does my hair, helps with my makeup (because the lighting was so dim), cuts excess lace of my shoes, sews gloves on to my body without stabbing me, ran and grabbed us lunch, and I couldn’t even eat but a few bites, grabs us a Lyft, takes pictures and videos for me.. and so much more like I can not thank him ENOUGH!! (Also this was his first drag show and he loved it ❤️)
Soo we get to the theater, I change shoes, and I’m nervously sitting amongst other Velourian fans. My stomach drops as Johnny Velour (Sasha’s boo-thang) tells the usher that Sasha is ready to begin the M&G. They tell us to line up to the left behind the velvet rope. When we start moving Sasha comes out the stage doors in all her Kaleidoscope beauty and the room gasped like “omfg there she is!!”
I’m about to faint.. y’all… y’all.. in the flesh, in person, to the naked eye, Sasha is fucking GORGEOUS!! (Also she’s quite petite in person, I didn’t think I was bigger than her, lol)
Okay so getting closer in line, this lady and I are having nervous babbles to cope with these surprise VIP tickets.. and we watch Sasha sign someone’s titties! She goes up. I’m next up. Fuck me.
Johnny Velour turns to me to take my The Big Reveal book and steps back and he’s like, “Omg! Your outfit! I see what you did, I love it!” I tell him thank you and I appreciate it and then it’s my turn.. and Sasha is looking at me with her beautiful crystal blue eyes and wide open arms. Looking like a watercolor butterfly..
“Omg?! I can get a hug?” She hugs me. She smells so freaking good, I’m melting.. and her little corseted breasts pressed into my breasts! Please!!
She said she knew who I was. McScuse me, Bitch?!! And gave me such high praise on my outfit. She called me a Goddess, and raved over my covered shoes, and I babbled, after she said she loved me… She’s lucky my husband was there because *roof roof* she could’ve had me, lol. We prom pose for some photos, and then she signed my signed copy of the Big Reveal, and wrote that she loved me AGAIN, and hugged me tightly AGAIN!! and told me to get a snack.
I wobbled off and my husband was there to escort me back to my seat as I loudly proclaimed, “I DID IT!!” 💪🏾
And I did do it. I met Sasha and didn’t burst into fucking flames. Lol
The show was stunning, I had 2nd row seats, I could count Sasha’s lashes, I was so close. I snuck a few pictures, but I was mostly sitting in awe of her beauty! All her numbers are great.. I enjoyed the book readings with the home video clips, and the very profound and educational lecture with Alok Menon about her book, showing resistance and courage using the art of Drag.. I learned so much, my husband and I had great insightful talks about the future of our children after this show that spurned from Sasha’s childhood stories. I can’t wait to see what else she has up her sleeve down the road.
Alright, that’s enough of me thirsting 🥵
Please go see Sasha if she comes to a city near you!
