A year has passed since the murder of Mexican journalists Margarito Martínez and Lourdes Maldonado in Tijuana. In both cases there were arrests and sentences. However, those who ordered these crimes are still not punished. Today marked one year of the murder of Martínez, who covered the police and security beat for various local and international media outlets. On January 17, 2022, Martínez was shot and killed as he was leaving his house to go to work. Relatives of Martínez, including his widow, his daughter and brothers, as well as colleagues from the press gathered this Tuesday at the Libertad de Expresión Civic Square in Tijuana to honor his memory.
