part of why i think watareikanashu is so good is that it’s just this perfect balance. beyond them all being oddballs beyond the love for each other they just balance each other out SO WELL.
because wataru and rei both hide and cover up and mask, though in different ways! wata is so over-the-top and generally very cheerful, while hiding his more serious emotions most of the time. rei is near the opposite - he covers up with a very calm, somewhat goofy demeanor, but he’s much more prone to being serious than wataru is. he hides his rebellious streak.
on the other hand, shu and kanata don’t really hide. they are pretty much. Themselves. no matter how they get judged for it. and they also are on opposite ends of the spectrum too - kanata is calm, cheerful, and easygoing, while shu is high-strung, often angry, and very dramatic.
each of the pairs have this wonderful dynamic and they all bring out the best in each other and i just think that people should consider watareikanashu more

Hi ✨✨ could you do a kanata/shu date scenario? please 💖
aaaah this is interesting!!! i hope this is ok, bc this is an eccentric date indeed (cough cough get it eccentric cough)
This is a compromise; Kanata begs to go to the aquarium, but Shu’s dislike for crowds halts the plan, and Shu would like to visit a museum with Kanata, but in Kanata’s very own words, that would be ‘boooooring’. In the end, they decide to have dinner at a higher-end restaurant with a nice ocean view.
"It’s very nice,“ says Kanata, staring out of the window with a dreamy expression. "I want to take my 'clothes’ off and 'jump’ right in with the fishes.”
"No, you will not,“ Shu retorts. He places his hand on Kanata’s, as if maybe it would stop his boyfriend from crashing through the glass and go skinny-dipping. "I spent a good amount of time sewing that, and would appreciate if you keep it on for the night, or perhaps even show the slightest bit of gratitude for it.”
Kanata sighs. Upon hearing that Kanata did not have any formal wear for the restaurant date, Shu took it upon himself to sew a pair of dress shirt and pants for Kanata, embellished with two fish motifs at the pockets. At first Kanata had been overjoyed with it, but now…
"It’s 'stifling’,“ he complains, playing with the tie. "Do I really have to wear this?”
"Of course you do. You look stunning in it, now leave your tie alone.“
"Eh? I don’t know how I feel about it. These kind of 'clothing’ are Shu’s 'style’. Shu looks much better than me in them.”
Shu wears a matching outfit, albeit without the fish motifs. He scoffs and stabs his fork into his croissant. “You’re just buttering me up so that I’ll let you jump into the ocean later on.”
"No, I really think Shu looks very 'handsome’ today. Though I’d like to 'jump’ into the ocean too. Please, Shu?“
"I said no. Now eat your sandwich.”
Kanata pouts. “Shu’s a 'meanie’.”
"And you’re meddlesome.“
"There, there,” Kanata says, reaching over to pat Shu’s head, “don’t be 'cross’. Hehe, get it? Because you’re eating a 'croissant’?”
Kanata’s lame attempt at a pun does amuse Shu. “Are you trying to be funny, Kanata?”
"Yes.“ Kanata smiles back. "Because Shu is the 'up-tight’ one between us, so I have to be the 'funny’ one. Wataru told me that.”
"I see.“ Shu writes Wataru off his mental list of good people. "You fuss so much about my personality, yet you’re the one clamouring to go on dates with me. In all honesty, I have no time for these frivolities.”
Kanata doesn’t seem to mind Shu’s layered insults. “That’s because going on 'dates’ with Shu is 'fun’,” Kanata tells his boyfriend. “After all, I get to eat yummy 'sandwiches’ and see the ocean and wear nice 'clothes’. Well, maybe not nice 'clothes’.”
"Excuse me?“
Kanata laughs, his laughter like tinkling bells by the shore. The sandwich sits on his plate, half-eaten, while he leans over to press a kiss on Shu’s forehead. "You are 'excused’.”
