This Korean science fiction anthology edited by Sunyoung Park & Sang Joon Park was fantastic. Some of the individual stories weren't quite stellar, but the collection as a whole was. Each individual story comes with a brief intro on the author & the story (and a creepy illustration with weird bubbly veiny people/creatures). If you like to go into stories knowing nothing beforehand, I recommend you read the intro after reading the story. The stories for the most part were a bit dark & depressing, with several having some political and/or social commentary. #asianlitbingo #currentlyreading rolling the r's by R. Zamora Linmark. This is the 20th anniversary edition and my first time reading it. Set in the 1970s in Hawaii, it centers around filipino gay teenagers and oh my god is it riveting. It's brash and queer and sensual and unapologetic #experimentalliterature, the voices ring so clear and while i don't get all the cultural references, I love it. One minute I was immersed in the most lustful, gripping, passionate prose and then in the next the narrator just pissed over that tantalizing dream in such hilarious fashion. Nothing is sacred and Linmark pushes all sorts of boundaries in succinct passages. As someone who is queer I really appreciate this and im so happy I'm reading this.
