#keyleth fire trial reference
Headcanon #85
The Sun Forge can be purified.
It’s not simple, as it requires a strong of heart individual capable of performing the purification ritual from the inside, not outside - basically risking dissolving in the darkness.

TLOVM Season 2 Eps 4-6 Ramblings
EP. 4
- More baby twins. I love getting to see these flashbacks of things that were only briefly mentioned during the campaign.
- Trinket origin story! Baby trinket is so adorable.
- Ugh... and right back into this absolutely brutal moment. The first of several moments that are going to be absolutely gut wrenching to see animated.
- Trinket defending his mama.
- “Take me instead you Raven bitch.” Love that they keep these iconic lines from the campaign.
- “Holy shit, I’m amazing.” Humble as ever Kash.
- Love Vex laughing in response to them telling her she died. Because sometimes it’s the only way to process things.
- Vax getting Death Walker’s Ward. And thus the decision that seals Vax’s fate in the end.
- Zahra is so cool. I love her.
- Vax’s flashbacks to the Calamity... I really hope we get a Calamity film at some point.
- And a passing of the torch from Purvan to Vax. Going from Vax getting the shit beat out of him, to him then accepting his fate and coming back and saving everyone. I love it so much.
- The tensions between Percy and Vax beginning...
- The necklace for Trinket!
- Was not expecting that little jumpscare at all... though I really like them adding these Calamity flashbacks as part of becoming the new Champion of the Matron of Ravens.
- Westruun in flames...
EP. 5
- BABY KEYLETH!
- “Pass through fire” reference. I’m a little sad that the context has changed so much, but I appreciate that the sentiment still exists in this world. I guess this also means we won’t be seeing Kerrek at all. (Which makes sense given Lyra and Thorbir were also cut.)
- Grog and Kraven Edge. Simultaneously the funniest and most terrifying relationship in the show. Also love that they included the Grog and Scanlan convo.
- Pike and Grog singing together! I love it.
- And the secrets of the broom unlocked!
- Was Vax this much of an asshole during this part of the campaign? I don’t remember him being this much of a dick towards Keyleth...
- KIMA AND ALLURA! HELL YES!
- “You know what you fight fire with?” “Fire?” “Me.” Never change Grog.
- “We can certainly try.” Fucking incredible. I love it so much.
- I love any time Percy loses his cool.
- ALLURA. FUCKING. VYSOREN.
- I have very little recollection of Keyleth and her dad together in campaign, so I love getting to see them together here.
- I wonder if between the Vox Machina and the Mighty Nein series we’ll get to see Keyleth and her mother reunite.
- Keyleth is the best member of the team. I will not be taking any questions or criticisms.
- Seeing Keyleth’s new look, my brain immediately goes to getting the red tunic to resist fire in Ocarina of Time...
- Plane shifting beginnings.
EP. 6
- And now getting into Grog’s backstory a little more. I love that season one was them solidifying them as a team, and now season two is letting us see more into their individual backstories.
- Oh Percy...
- My recollection is that Scanlan never let anyone manhandle him in the campaign. He always insisted that everyone else heal themselves first and refused to be picked up most of the time. (With the occasional exception during battle like the fast-ball special.)
- Kraven Edge is terrifying
- Sphinxes are so cool
- Arcane Piano. This is ridiculous and amazing all at once.
- During the campaign I never stopped to consider what it actually looks like when Scanlan stop to sing in the middle of battle.
- Scanlan bonding with the Sphinx was not what I expected from this trial. But I love it.
- MYTHCARVER! Time to slay a Pit Fiend.
- Not as brutal as ending on Liam/Vax’s sobs last week, but that was still awful.
- I'm interested to see where this goes because so far Pike is their only healer, unlike the campaign where Vex, Scanlan, and Keyleth were also able to heal when needed.

Fav things about TLOVM s2e5
(possible spoilers because I watched the campaign and might reference it)
Baby Keyleth / Little Flower 🥺
You look more mature.
I can't believe they kept the "outhouse convo"! Could have made it happen in any other kind of circumstance, but no, they stayed true to canon 🤣 Of course, they did.
Since we're here, Craven Edge's exasperated sigh. Cravy didn't have the easiest time with Grog
It's what I've been training for my whole life ... everything they do to set up Scanlan's storyline is just ouch - so good job, I guess
Vax can't take off the armour? What?
I will restring your lute with your own pubic hairs!
They got Aimee Carrero to voice an unnamed Ashari girl, and they make her yell 'Mother!' of all things 😄 I'll refer to her character as Nancy from now on.
The fact that Robbie Daymond can sound like that...
You know what you fight fire with? - Fire? - Me. (motorboats)
We can certainly try
Shit, I'm very flammable! (In the distance, you can hear Victor go: Don't blow yourself uuuup!)
Obviously, all of Keyleth's fire trial. The optics, the music, the new outfit, Marisha's acting. It might be my favourite part of the whole season ❤️‍🔥
The callback to 'I think you'll be needing this'
Kimallura kiss

Episode 5: Fate's Journey Pt. 1
Banter.
For my money, this is probably one of the weakest episodes of Season one, if not the weakest. This is primarily due to the pacing; episode five plays out a lot slower than it needs to. This makes for longer post this time, but I've split it into parts to hopefully make it easier to swallow. This is part one of four. I hope you enjoy.
Now let's get into it.
Vex and Percy's talk on the wagon is...imperfect. On the one hand, Laura and Taliesin are fabulously natural as usual, and I greatly appreciate the attempt at banter (more on that in another post). I also appreciate that Vex and Percy get a moment to themselves. But the lines themselves are wonky.
For one, you don't practice a resting bitch face. That's why it's a resting bitch face. For two, Vex's inquiring about Percy's bad mood upon returning home is.....a little strange. Vex is a savvy woman; she's got to know that the Briarwoods, known murderous sexy evil power couple, are not going to be awaiting Vox Machina's arrival with open arms and gift baskets. For the same reason, she's also got to know, even without being an expert on the subject, that heading back to the sight of his family's murder is not going to be fun for Percy.
And on top of all that, there's the fact that Vex should know something about not being happy to go home, given Syngorn. What she's saying to Percy could've made sense if they'd used this to set her up as a low-key hypocrite who's in denial about her own issues, and then have that come to fruition in The Echo Tree. But that isn't what happened.
On multiple levels this talk isn't as good as it could be.
So let's try another possible take:
Percy: Please stop that. I'm trying to concentrate.
Vex: Is that what you're doing? Or is that just your resting bitch face?
Percy: My resting bitch face?
Vex: You look terrible, Percy.
Percy: And why shouldn't I? You saw for yourself. The Briarwoods were outnumbered and still fought us to a standstill after they nearly killed your brother. They're not exactly going to be rolling out the red carpet for us....unless it's a carpet soaked with blood...if a vampire wouldn't consider that wasteful-
Vex: I know it can't be pleasant for you, after everything that's happened....but I was hoping you could take comfort in the fact that we'll be with you this time, darling.
Percy: Yes I...thank you. I'll try to remember that. And to be fair, I do have a magnificent resting bitch face.
Vex: You do.
Percy: I didn't used to. I have you all to thank for that.
Hey, Anjali Bhimani as a Cleric of the Everlight! Anjali is fantastic; she's been in Exandria Unlimited and the Ravening War, and deserves all the love.
The talk around the campfire was a lot of fun, and I liked that it gave the show a chance to squeeze in some references from the stream we're probably not going to see in the show. (I'm still wondering if Hotis is going to show up again, or not, or if we'll still get the encounter that we did with him in the stream but instigated by a different character.)
However...one exchange in particular bothers me more than a bit. It's this one, with Keyleth and Vex:
Keyleth, upon setting Vax on fire a little: Oh, my gosh. Oh, sorry! Sorry, sorry, sorry!
Vax: You're fine. You're fine. No worries.
Vex: Yeah, no worries. You'll probably get your shit together eventually.
...
Keyleth, later: Vex is right. Maybe I'll never get my shit together.
That is....pretty much the exact opposite of what Vex said, which is kind of remarkable. Let's try something else:
Keyleth: Vex is right. I don't have my shit together. I can't even get into the same time zone as any of my shit, let alone have it together. And what if she's wrong? What if I never do? What if I fail my trial and then I'll fail the Ashari and then I'll fail Vox Machina and then I'll-
Vax: Whoa! Calm down. It's alright. Don't listen to my sister.
Maybe a little heavy on the Keyleth freak out here, but I think you get the idea. Also, structured this way, we can set up a parallel between the couples' talks. That's always fun.
I wouldn't see much need to point this kind of thing out if it weren't for the fact that....well, as we go along, we're going to see similar clumsy and even contradictory writing show up. Repeatedly. And I think it's at the heart of one of the biggest things holding TLOVM back right now.
In the same vein, the twins' talk was a nice set up for things to come, but it gets a little clunky when Vex mentions that they got out of Syngorn because they didn't get distracted by pretty things. This isn't just weird in the moment because she's the goldbug, but it's weird now, in hindsight. Specifically because of what we've seen in S2. She was the one who pushed her brother to get that tiara for her. And she was the one who wanted to stay when Vax stormed out. Presumably for the last time.
She was the one distracted by pretty things, and it almost kept her in Syngorn.
Again, this could've been used to (compassionately) set her up as a hypocrite who's in denial, but...if that was the plan, I think the moment to put it into effect was the twins' family reunion. So the opportunity for that seems to have passed. I would be happy to be proven wrong in a future episode, though. We'll have to see.
That's it for part one. Onto part two: Travel And Chase.

Things that Keyleth has said or done that I can see Game!Sorey doing but not Anime!Sorey
So you know how in the last amount of time I’ve been referring to Sorey, namely the game version as Male Keyleth? Well this is because I feel that they actually are pretty similar but they just happen thrust into different circumstances. One was more or less forced into their current position while other had agency and throughout their journey. One went on the journey because they had to while the other wanted to. And if they ended up in each other’s situations they would probably perform very similar actions. Needless to say that they’d both be probably dead in a ditch if they didn’t have their companions with them. This is what I personally would not put it past Sorey to do so I know everyone is going to agree. Especially the fans of both Critical Role and Tales of Zestiria. For the Critical role fans I encourage playing Tales of Zestiria but only after you play Tales of Berseria (Hey Taliesin Jaffe and Sam Riegal are in it, well Berseria that is),read Zestiria’s manga when it comes out sometime this summer in English as I heard it’s really good, and actively discourage to watch the anime as it is a trainwreck, especially in the second season. As for the Zestiria fans wondering “Really? Did that actually happen?” The answer is yes, and I recommend watching Critical Role as it’s also good, though I recommend mostly listening to it as a podcast and have something else to do as the episodes are very long.
Poorly pull off acting as a guide to a place the party is unfamiliar with including himself
Consider Kittens and flying squirrels to be little beasts.
Shove a guy into lava and say that it’s the meanest thing he’s ever done until someone brings up the time he killed a kid in Lastonbell
Get arrested for trying to help a friend in a fist fight where there are sectioned bets on it
“I don’t know is that allowed?”
Get thrown out of a casino for trying to talk to lizards
Nearly get arrested for climbing in through a window.
(cheerfully) “We made him eat a bag of holy dicks!”
“I learned that from you Rose!”
“In many ways you are my complete opposite but you are also my best friend.”
“You know I love you right?”
“[The trials] are like 5% of the journey everything else I’ve learned was from the in between”
Unknowingly eat a soul, get a rush from it and crash
Get kissed by a guy that he drove pretty crazy
Said kiss happens to be his first one
Avoid trying to see said guy after hooking up with Mikleo because it gets really complicated, as said guy might have feelings for him.
Freeze when teammate says something rather off putting during a battle (Maybe something like “You fool your soul is forfeit! Die! Die! Die!”)
Ask said teammate what they meant by that
Restrain himself to not go apeshit on the bitch that (hypothetically) killed nearly everyone in Elysia via releasing long sealed away bad thing
but will call them out on it. And good god he will call them out on it.
Ask friend how they are not going all kill kill kill on the bitch that (hypothetically) killed nearly everyone in Elysia
Comment on the stupid shit that everyone ( including himself) has done
“Honestly if you’ve just said daddy issues we would’ve taken you right in.”
Not be particularly trusting of rather blind followers of a religion or people that follow a certain religion with rather vague motivations.
Trust an outcast that eventually ends up betraying them
Faceplant into lava
break down crying after two very long and exhaustive battles one of which the enemy got away and nearly killed them because he is just so exhausted.
Confront someone he cares about concerning a rather dangerous deal with someone else like a particularly powerful seraph. And expresses his concern maybe wearing his heart on his sleeve.
accidentally turn someone into a bloody pulp with the earth armatus
wear a circlet with antlers on it but would think long hair is better suited for something like that as he feels that short hair makes it visually unbalanced
go day drinking
Insist to see the sunrise while drunk
gets convinced that four shots of fire water would help pull an allnighter barely get through two and throws up on anybody but Edna when he gets dragged outside
Gets confused why He and Mikleo would have an evil tome when they’re going to do research at a library and not get the tome sealed away.
Get super stressed when two close comrades suddenly disappear
befriend an old weary soul that’s retired from adventuring.

Intuitive Ostara - Day 2 : Wisdom
Another double draw! These two jumped out at me as I shuffled, springing free at the same time. Wisdom from The Singer of Initiation comes from the trials and tribulations that it takes to come out the other side. Literally, when I saw it and took it into context, I thought of Keyleth’s “I have passed through fire” (Her wisdom is 24, after all). For the Bodacious Bodach, I’m having a hard time putting into words the feelings he’s giving me. (One of the downsides of literally doing all of my readings intuitively and communicating with my decks via emotions or images, it’s hard to put them into words). The card itself is about interfering, meddling -- and it generally refers to someone/something having this active role in your life. But in this case, it is directed at me, as a reminder to have the.... self-awareness, I think? to be above such things and to let others flow as they are.

02 Into the Greyspine Mines
(1:05:16) Travis: Vex?  Laura: He’s Vax. I’m Vex. (Note: It sounds to us like Travis said Vax the first time, but it sounded enough like Vex to Laura that she commented on it, and we’re going to trust her.)
04 Attack on the Duergar Warcamp
(1:06:06) Keyleth: Wait. What does Vax have to say about this?  Vax: Vex, you mean? Vex? My sister, Vex?
(1:19:40) Keyleth: I go ahead and I cast enhance ability on Vex.  Scanlan: Vax.

(1:22:18) Keyleth thanks “Vax” (Vex) for reminding her of the child she killed in the battle with the Dread Emperor.
(2:04:55) Keyleth: Before they leave, I just kind of, like, tap their shoulders and meditate and grant them guidance.  Matt: Ok, you can give one of them guidance, because it’s a concentration.  Keyleth: Uh, Vex. (seems to nod to Vax)  Matt: Ok.  Vex: That’s me. (awkward pause) Did you mean to give it to him?  Keyleth:…yes.
07 The Throne Room
(2:07:43) Sam (jokingly) to Liam: Are you Vex or Vax?  Liam: I’m Vix.

12 Dungeons and Dragons Campaign Tips

14 Shopping and Shipping
(2:05:14) Gilmore: "Vax'ahlia!" (thanks to @runmeoverwithazamboni)

15 Skyward
(0:09:54) Sam: Oh-what’s-his-butt has something.  Orion: Vax has something.  Laura: Vex.  Sam: Oh s***.  Laura, just kidding, I’m Vex.
21 Trial of the Take Part 4
(1:23:54) Matt: Suddenly, you see Vex pull his daggers out, er, Vax pull his daggers out.
(1:34:17) Matt: I need all of you, except for Vex, to go ahead and make a wisdom saving throw.
(1:52:51) Tiberius: Vex, no! Stop. What are you doing?  Vax: My name is Vax.  Tiberius, That’s what I said.”
(1:53:21) Matt: Thorbir, you see Vex kick the door open.
(2:28:21) Matt: Tiberius, Thorbir, Vex, and Kash to all make dexterity saving throws.
(4:35:05) Matt, during Critmas: …next to a Vex.  Laura: That’s, by the way, the third time you called him Vex tonight.
22 AraMente to Pyrah
(3:32:15) Matt: …it’s doing a touch attack against Keyleth and Vex.  Vax: Vex or Vax? Matt: Vax, I’m sorry.
(4:13:10) Percy, Tiberius, Vax, Grog, you all take 3 points of damage from the fall. (Vex had rolled the Nat1, not Vax)
24 The Feast
(2:22:29) Tiberius: Vex…Vex…Vex… (Vax looks) No, Vex. Vex.   Vex: Me?
25 Crimson Diplomacy
(1:25:10) Matt: And with that, Vex. (points at Vax. Vex gasps) Vax, Vex. I did it again.
26 Consequences and Cows
(1:03:00) Keyleth: Wait. No to Laura…to…to Vax.  Vex: I’m…I’m Vex.
27 The Path to Whitestone
(0:40:20) Marisha: Let me scooch over so I can be behind Vax-Vex. Laura: Vex
(3:02:48) Matt: Both Scanlan and Vex…
(3:03:26) Grog: I jump and try to grab Vex.   Vex: Vax. You wanna hold me? (Grog does commit to this and holds on to Vex)
29 Whispers
(3:16:10) Keyleth: Looking up and seeing that Sir Kerrion is gone and Vex is blindly...oh, sorry, Vax…
31 Gunpowder Plot
(p3. 0:46:08) Matt: And I think most of it, of course, thanks to Vax. You’re pushin’ close to 10,000 gold pieces you guys have saved.  Liam: I’m Vax. (points) That’s Vex.  Laura: Did you just call me Vax?  Matt: No.  Laura: You did.  Matt: Man.
33 Reunions
(p1. 1:29:00) Matt: Vex, what’d you get?  Vax: I’m Vax.  Matt: I know, I said Vex. I got it right this time!  Liam: O, you’re from California.  Matt: *pouts and glares*
(p2. 1:46:38) Matt, to Percy: Go ahead and make 3 attacks against Vex…Vax. I mean Vax.
35 Denouement
(p1. 0:21:26) Travis: Can I try giving Vax a common healing potion? (While Vax isn’t with the group and Vex has 1 hit point)
38 Echoes of the Past
(2:07:18) Matt: Vex appears, seemingly out of nowhere, and slaps his lockpicks your hand.  Vax: I’m Vax.  Matt: Sorry…Vex. (smirks)
39 Omens
(1:27:28) Matt: You can see Vex’s, uh, Vax’s bleeding, unconscious form slip out of the purple worm’s body.
40 Desperate Measures
(2:24:07) Pike: What were you trying to do when you brought Percy and Vex up here?  Liam: Vax.
41 In Ruins
(0:30:21) Laura: Hey man, I was helping too!  Matt: You were helping, until you were pulled away after the 5 minutes.  Grog: Good job, Pike! And you too, Vex.  Matt: And good job, Vax.
42 Dangerous Dealings
(1:35:30) Matt: You can take a d10 inspiration die, Vex…uh, Vax.
(2:59:52) Keyleth: Vax, do you have an arrow…err, Vex, do you have an arrow?
43 Return to Vasselheim
(3:34:02) Matt: Vex, you take… Liam: I’m Vax.  Matt: Sorry, Vax. Every now and then.  Liam: Every time.
44 The Sunken Tomb
(2:09:43) Matt: So, Grog and Vex are heading to the right.  Laura: Vax.
47 The Family Business
(1:04:19) Vex: I pull out the broom and lift up in the air. [...] Keyleth: That’s pretty cool, Vax!
48 Into the Frostweald
(1:10:35) Scanlan: Or we could just send Vax…Vex on a broom right now to get it…solo.
49 A Name is Earned
(4:34:45) You see Vex come rocketing toward you.  Liam: *mouths* Vax.
53 At Dawn, We Plan!
(2:15:57) Sam: I’m going to where I dropped her off at the sewers. And I’m hoping that [Vax] can track or something?  Laura: Probably shoulda brought a ranger with you who’s really good at tracking.
55 Umbrasyl
(2:45:29) Matt: You come to rest at the side of this one pillar that juts out of the ground with Vax right up above you.  Laura: I’m Vex!
(2:45:43) Matt: You do hear, right in front of you, a growling, snarling bear [...] the bear that you saw Vax summon forth from her throat.  Laura: I’m Vex!
(3:06:16) Both Shale and Vax are… Laura: Vex.  Matt: I’m just gonna keep saying it now, over and over.
59 Into The Feywild
(0:24:19) Matt: Uh, Vex- uh Vax you go ahead and make your way, uh, towards one of the tree trunks and kind of just dart out of the way to remain hidden.
61 Denizens of the Moonbrush
(3:09:47) Sam: I’ll inspire Vax! The girl!
64 The Frigid Doom
(1:50:43) Taliesin: As an aside, I want to grab Vex for a quick walk on the way to the castle. I want to go by the cemetery.  Liam: You did say ‘Vex’ right?  Taliesin: Vax.  Liam: You said 'Vex’.  Taliesin: Vax.
66 A Traveler’s Gamble
(2:49:19) Scanlan: I want to go back to that place and get my revenge. Are you with me, Vax?  Liam: Vex, Vax? Which of us?  Scanlan: Vax!  Taliesin: That’s Vex.  Laura: What?  Marisha: Wait, what?
69 Passed Through Fire
(0:50:16) Marisha: And I hand the dagger to Vex….Vax. Sorry.  Laura: No, thank you, you said it, it’s mine.
70 Trust
(2:07:33) Travis: Can I go find Vax?  Laura: Yeah, I wanna go find Vax and Keyleth as well.  Travis: Oh, I’m sorry, I meant Vex.
71 Vorugal
(0:20:33) Vex: Is anybody going to keep track of us like you kept track of Vex...Vax. I just called my brother me.
76 Brawl in the Arches
(1:20:22) Sam: Where ya goin’ Vax…..Vex?
77 Clash at Daxio
(0:29:10) Travis: The one Vax shot that, like, hit the ground and went buh-buh-buh-bah!  Laura: I’m Vex.  Travis: Yeah, whatever.
And, by special request, we also have Talks Machina on this list! (That’s 4, Brian.)
(Ep01, 0:39:20) The closeness of the twins’ names, and the common mistake of mixing them up, is discussed.
(Ep03, 0:58:26) Brian: A lot of people asked, when did Percy and Vax… Vex.
(Ep05, 0:47:08) Brian mixes them up before threatening CRS. Hence why we added it.
(Ep07, 0:19:15) Brian: Was the red dragon that slew Vax slack-- slash Vex’s… I hate this job.
