Eyes
Writers, if you see this, share a snippet of your characters' eyes. Description, intensity, passion. Show me them peepers!
From my WIP, Good Thyme With Bad Company:
Iom’ren turned his head to look at Grilled. Those eyes. In the ringslight, Iom’ren’s eyes and Noklopan facial jewels shone like stars. Aloutia’s stars, pink and pure, the essence of goodness. The starlight which everyone wished would glitter upon each other’s paths. Yet those eyes held nothing but pain. Sorrow. A tear fell down his cheek, diverted by the jewels, and fell upon the fresh snow at the same moment a drop of blood fell from the quillon. Grilled wanted to say something—anything—but what does one say to a soul bearing such powerful, striking eyes?

WIP Word Search Tag Game
I was tagged by @rachaellawrites, and thank you for the tag! I love these kinds of games <3 My words were dark, rain, simmer, smoke, and frame
I will use words from GOOD THYME WITH BAD COMPANY, or whatever this book eventually gets titled. It was originally going to be a single book, but now this damn thing has turned into a trilogy siiigh. Oh, but I love it so much, I could write about these characters and their shenanigans forever. The current title works best for the third book, and I'm currently only on the first, so the snippets here will inevitably be in a book with a different title.
DARK
You fled into the sunrise, and I into the sunset. Have you been embraced by warmth and light yet? I have sentenced myself to writhe in the cold and dark.
RAIN
Immediately behind her chair was the great clock, its many gears forever buzzing. The evening was still early; the guests had plenty of time to be rowdy yet. The weather calendar hung on the wall next to the clock. It would rain tomorrow, bringing in more guests seeking to stay warm by the fire.
SIMMER
Dinner hours had just started and the common room was full of guests, merchants and townsfolk alike, bumping elbows, sharing laughs, enjoying their ale together. The scent of Parsnips’s Family Stew—filled with parsnips, shallots, onions, and turnips—wafted through the room, enticing all who were enveloped in its aroma. The guests had filled their bowls and taken their seats at the tables, so Shallot could take the boy to the hearth, where the pot simmered over the flames, without fear of being interrupted.
SMOKE
Onion and Beans came through the common room entrance. The bartender carried his pipe of azurhizome powder, blue smoke trailing in his wake. “Thought I heard you hollering out here,” Onion said, her eyes on the hand as it flailed about in its prison. “What in the dominion is that?”
FRAME
Shallot clutched the net, stepped onto the balcony, and looked down. There were two naked kids—boys from a quick glance—skin so pale they practically glowed in the ringslight. They had extinguished the flames on their wrists to stay hidden in the darkness, but Aloutia’s rings and moons shone enough light to illuminate their pallid, fragile frames. “Two boys,” Shallot said as she hefted herself upon the balustrade. “Get the other one!”
Anyone who wants to participate, feel free! I'm also going to tag @valeriestorm, @nightfoxproductions726, and @purviswrites if they want to play. Your words are SOFT, HOLLOW, TERROR, BREEZE, and FELT

Daily PD art - Su
Tumblr media
He helped me arrange my mane, too. It was an absolute mess. He stood behind me, combing the top of my head while I braided my mustaches into my beard. “I’ve heard that depression is like a seagull,” Su said. “You can’t stop them from flying overhead, but you can take care not to let them make a nest in your hair.” “I think I’ve heard that one,” I said as I snapped a bone bead into place beside my mouth. “The seagulls almost got me this time.” “We will fight them off together, Ami-honey.” With Su’s help, I acquired a more publically-presentable appearance, and my soul felt more at ease. I was grateful to have Su here to fight away those pesky nest-making seagulls.

PD art - Lucognidus
Tumblr media
She would have overthrown him if she could and if she thought the world would be better without him. But it wouldn’t be, and that was the factor that fucked most with her mind. The world was better with Lucognidus as its God, and if he were gone, everything would go to Hell again

PD Art - Calinthe and Zakuro
Tumblr media
"I felt Zakuro’s chest rise and fall as she let out a heavy sigh. She put two arms on my shoulders, then the other two on my back—gently, so as not to tear my wings—and finally accepted all the love I could convey through this embrace."

PD art - Maika
Tumblr media
I knelt beside Maika and pet her sides to calm her down. She sat on her haunches, excited for attention. “If your dog bites my daughter, I’ll kick it,” Milti said. “If you kick my dog, I’ll kick out your teeth and string them on a necklace,” Su said. “Then give it to your girl."

Daily PD art - Requiem
Tumblr media
"Why did Sawyer make you two his drinkers?” “We’re both of noble birth, born at an advantage to change politics,” Sayuri replied curtly. “Joke’s on him,” Requiem said. “I left my family with a loud ‘fuck you,’ got adopted into Sayuri’s family, and now we both barely qualify for Ophidian nobility."

Daily PD art - Machenerate
Tumblr media
"The crystalights under Steena Village, though? It could very well be a… well, I don’t want to blaspheme here, but I believe the Gods intended for it to be a gift, but… messed up. I refuse to believe they intended to hurt your daughter.” Su rubbed his chin. “Machenerate is known to mess up when using her powers.” “Perhaps a Godblood such as yourself is more confident blaspheming, but I would never suggest the Lord Stone Goddess accidentally killed your daughter when she put crystalights in the ground.” Su’s face relaxed. “Ah, yes. Of course, you would never suggest that, because you’re a good man, Mr. Onoretti. But you think it. You believe it. You just won’t say it.”

"Papa said he wanted to cheer me up with a day of fun here in Monoceros. We’re gonna go to restaurants, then the beach, and to the Armillary Spire. Oboro is gonna come with us, too. We’ll be going after all Papa’s work is done, of course. He has a lot to do."

Daily PD art - Cookie
Tumblr media
Cookie had been up all night preparing the concotion. She'd consumed an Insomnia potion, but now... was she awake? Was she even alive? Grilled couldn't tell. Her body was deathly still, her compound eyes never closed to sleep. Her mandibles wiggled. Well, she was alive...
Quote made up on the spot since I haven't actually gotten to any of Cookie's scenes, lol. But this would, theoretically, occur soon after she joins the inn in MEMORIES OF THE GOOD THYME INN.

WIP Snippet
Grilled has a slightly murderous moment... (note that he's about 12 years old here)
As the boys had gotten older and no longer even joked about running away, Shallot had allowed them to wander through the town and farms when they had leisure time. However, they were still forbidden from going into the woods for fear they’d be accused of illegal poaching, foraging, or wood collecting. Approaching the boundary, Grilled felt a shiver down his back, arms, and even on his hands, including the one still on Shallot’s shoulder, back in the inn. His shiver wasn’t only from the cold—he’d learned fear last winter when one of the town’s most notorious drunks was caught poaching in the woods. A man Grilled had never met because Shallot had banned him from the Good Thyme Inn prior to Grilled’s adoption. Shallot hadn’t wanted to take her scamps to the hanging—she hadn’t wanted them to even know about it—but in all towns, inns were central hubs for news and gossip. The baron’s steward had posted an advertisement for the execution on the common room’s message board.
The boys had literally begged her to take them to watch. She finally relented in the hope that watching a man die might sicken them enough that they would never want to see another hanging. Or that the boys would be permanently deterred from entering the baron’s woods.
Grilled did not want to die. The execution had buried itself deep in his mind as a deterrent.
But sicken him? No… No, there was nothing disgusting about a dead body. If anything, Grilled found it… fascinating. He had wondered if the meat of a dead blessed person could be grilled or if their meat was forever blessed by the Fire Goddess.

Requiem artwork
Tumblr media
It had been diluted, as was necessary when converting it into a physical form for mortals like her to consume, but it still tasted like rot. As dark and decayed as Death himself. A putrid taste only a woman as foul as she could suffer. Requiem licked her lips in delight.

Artwork of the Pentagonal Dominion
For the next few months (if I keep at it), I will share a piece of artwork I have commissioned for my books and a quote or description by/about the character. Starting off with this lovely pic of Amiere and Su by Bear Pettigrew @crossroadart-seabear
Tumblr media
Su: “How do you feel now?”
Amiere: “Like a teenager.”
Su: “Oh honey, don’t say that! I still feel thirty-eight, and I don’t want to make this weird.”
Amiere: “Sorry. My body feels thirty-six, but for a moment, I had the same sexually-charged thoughts as when I was younger.”

WIP Snippet
A snippet about the horrors Garlic and Grilled faced when they were young boys on Ophidia. CW for violence against children, slavery, murder. This is them telling about the experiences to Shallot, once they have been rescued.
The older man had died, though when asked how long ago, Garlic and Grilled had no sense of time. Unable to keep her business going, their master sold them to the governor of their region, Master Tsubakijima. Shallot had heard that name. House Tsubakijima was infamous on Ophidia as one of the highest noble houses and one of the Four Flower Families, the four houses who produced weapons for Ophidia’s military.
Tsubakijima’s factories produced hunting and spy gear. Bows, arrows, kunai, traps, shuriken, daggers. Ophidian weapons occasionally made their way to Aloutia and Shallot had seen House Tsubakijima’s camellia insignia on a few daggers.
What she didn’t know until Garlic and Grilled told her, though, was that they tested weapons and trained solders… by hunting slaves. House Tsubakijima had no use for two slaves who only knew how to make charcoal. They were put on a forested island with fifty other kids, naked and unarmed, and told ‘make it interesting for the hunters.’ The lake was nasty, brackish water, unfit for drinking. One boy tried drinking it anyway and was vomiting when the hunters’ boat approached. They had turned him into a pincushion full of arrows before even landing.
Upon hearing that, Shallot felt ridiculous for trying to scare the boys with tales of how the Queen’s army would use them as target practice. They’d already lived that horror.

PD art - Life Tree City
Tumblr media
"The church was three trees away. We had to cross bridges made of vines, leaves, and wood, stretching thousands of feet above the ground. Not that we could see the ground; it was foggy down below. We went inside the tree, down wooden passages bored out centuries ago, now lined with tapestries and glowlight lotus vines."
