Cuentos de amor de locura y de muerte - Horacio Quiroga
Cuentos de amor de locura y de muerte es un libro de cuentos de Horacio Quiroga publicado en 1917 por la "Sociedad Cooperativa Editorial Limitada" de Buenos Aires. La primera publicación incluye 18 relatos y en siguientes ediciones el propio autor realiza algunas modificaciones en los cuentos y excluye Los ojos sombríos, El infierno artificial y El perro rabioso. El tema de la muerte resalta en la mayoría de los relatos. Otro tema abordado es la deshumanización del hombre que cede su voluntad a los instintos más primitivos. Siguiendo estos impulsos es que surgen los problemas y la trama de varios cuentos. Por decisión expresa del autor, el título no lleva coma.

Stories of Love, Madness, and Death is a book of short stories by Horacio Quiroga published in 1917 by the Sociedad Cooperativa Editorial Limitada of Buenos Aires. The first publication includes 18 stories and, in subsequent editions, the author himself makes some modifications to the stories and excludes three of them. The theme of death stands out in most stories. Another theme addressed is the dehumanization of man who yields his will to his most primitive instincts. Following these impulses is where the problems and the plot of several stories arise.

As of now, I was able to find all songs but one, but that one is scheduled to be released in about 3 weeks, so I'll do my best to find the file on the Wayback Machine. If not, well, same thing that happened with 'Wonderview' by Otis, and we'll shift all the songs 1 day back. Obviamente deseo hacer una sección en el idioma cada vez que sea posible, sean canciones o sean albumes completos.
Sin embargo, quiero combinar 2 formatos para esto, escrito en inglés y audio en español, por lo cual al inicio de cada post voy a agregar un pequeño audio básicamente con el mismo post, pero en español.
Sería extraño que no fuera así. Adicional a esto, las letras van a estar en español también, con subtítulos en inglés. Who is Mario Duarte?
You may know Mario Duarte a lot better if you're from latin america, specifically for portraying Nicolás Mora, in the Colombian soap opera 'Yo soy Betty, la fea' (the original version of 'Ugly Betty'). However, his work is way wider than just that, so let's dive into it.
Mario Duarte De La Torre (De La Torre is his mother's last name, as in LatAm we have both of our parents' first last names) is a Colombian actor and musician from Baranquilla, most known for the character already mentioned, and for being the vocalist for the rock band 'La Derecha' (lit. 'The Right' or 'The Right One', as in 'right hand').
He was born on July 17th, 1965, to a couple from Santander (also in Colombia), who constantly traveled around the country until they settled in Bogotá when Mario was 10 years old (so around 1975)
In 1992 he formed 'La Derecha' alongside 6 other musicians, among them was Josué, Mario's younger brother. But, I'll stop with 'La Derecha' here, and move onto more Mario's info.
Some of Mario's acquaintances recommended him to attend TV and even movie castings, and in 1998 he got his first role on TV, as Camilo, a bully in the soap opera 'La Madre' (the mother).
Eventually, in 1999, he landed his most iconic role as Nicolás Mora in 'Yo soy Betty, la fea', and its sequel 'Ecomoda'. Also, in the year 2000 he landed his first movie role in 'Calibre 35' (Caliber 35 or 35 gauge).
After that, many other roles have come for Mario, both for tv and movies. Nowadays, Mario is working on new music, both in solitaire and with 'La Derecha', which came back from its hiatus in 2010. Also in the 2021 remake of the classic soap opera 'Café con Aroma de Mujer' (lit. 'Coffee with a Woman's Aroma')
So, without further delay, let's now head into 'Golpe de Ala', Mario Duarte's only album in solitaire (so far)
Not much can be said about the album, at least not using words, because the music speaks for himself. Its name in English would be an euphemism for 'Underarm smell', not a very elegant name, but a very Colombian expression, that's for sure.
Combining elements from latin rock and other latin tropical genres (like cumbia, salsa, merengue or vallenato) the album showcases both Mario's singing and spoken word.
Though, presented as a work in solitaire, other members can be seen in live performances, like the one that appears in an episode of 'Yo soy Betty, la fea', in where other musicians can be seen.

Open Veins of Latin America: Five Centuries of the Pillage of a Continent is a book written by Uruguayan journalist, writer, and poet Eduardo Galeano, published in 1971, that consists of an analysis of the impact that European settlement, imperialism, and slavery have had in Latin America. The book was published during the ideological divide caused by the Cold War, when most of Latin American countries had brutal, right-wing dictatorships. Open Veins was banned in several countries and quickly became a reference for an entire generation of left-wing thinkers. Pedro Páramo - Juan Rulfo
Pedro Páramo es la primera novela del escritor mexicano Juan Rulfo, publicada por primera vez en 1955. El autor comenzó la obra a finales de los años 1940 y, tras recibir una beca del Centro Mexicano de Escritores, logró finalizarla y, más tarde, publicar adelantos de la misma de 1953 a 1954 en diversas revistas mexicanas bajo los títulos preliminares de Una estrella junto a la luna, Los murmullos y Comala. Es la primera novela de Rulfo, así como su segunda obra después de El llano en llamas; una recopilación de cuentos de la que tocó los temas de la muerte, la ruralidad y la pérdida de esperanzas tras la Revolución Mexicana. Asimismo, anticipó su segunda novela, El gallo de oro, escrita entre 1956 y 1958 pero publicada recién en 1980. En España, la dictadura franquista prohibió la obra por contener, a juicio del censor, «descripciones crudas de hechos y situaciones inmorales» en diversos pasajes. La censura del régimen no autorizó la distribución de la novela hasta catorce años más tarde, en 1969. Actualmente la obra forma parte de la lista de las 100 mejores novelas en español del siglo XX del periódico español El Mundo. Además, se han realizado traducciones a más de treinta idiomas, varias adaptaciones cinematográficas y una teatral.

Pedro Páramo is a novel written by Mexican writer Juan Rulfo. The novel tells the story of Juan Preciado, a man who promises his mother on her deathbed to meet Preciado's father for the first time in the town of Comala, only to come across a literal ghost town. That is, populated by spectral characters. La Amortajada es una novela de la escritora chilena María Luisa Bombal, publicada en 1938. Argumentalmente, está muy marcada por la sumisión psicológica del hombre hacia las figuras femeninas. En cuanto a estructura, esta novela cuenta con un contexto donde se viaja entre realidad y ficción, según lo que la autora quiere comunicar con Ana María, personaje principal de la novela, y los recuerdos de quienes se acercan a verla a su féretro. Me llamo Rigoberta Menchú y así me nació la conciencia (Casa de las Américas Americanas, 1983) es un libro de Elizabeth Burgos que relata la vida de la maya quiché Rigoberta Menchú Tum. Pertenece al género testimonio cuyo objetivo fue denunciar los maltratos y las atrocidades a los que están sometidos los indígenas guatemaltecos. Aunque la historia se centra en su vida y la de su comunidad indígena, hace eco a la situación similar en la que se encuentran otras comunidades indígenas de toda América Latina. El libro fue el resultado de una entrevista de Menchú con la antropóloga venezolana Elizabeth Burgos que se realizó durante una semana en enero de 1982 en París. El libro es una transcripción de las 25 horas de grabación de la entrevista con Menchú.

Dézafi - Frankétienne
Dézafi by Frankétienne is the first novel to be written and published in Haitian Creole. Released in 1975, it has since been translated into both English and French and received a number of awards including the Best Translated Book Award of 2019. Dézafi (which means 'cock fight' in Haitian Creole) is set in Haiti and centers around a voodoo priest, Sintil, who is terrorizing the village of Bouanèf and enslaving residents by turning them into zonbis. The book ends when the zonbis wake up and rile the populace into overthrowing Sintil, ripping him to pieces. Written with a subtle plot line, most of Dézafi is written in an abstract style that captures the Haitian experience without directly communicating storyline. This structure is a function of the spiralist movement which Frankétienne belonged to.

La vorágine - José Eustasio Rivera
La vorágine es una novela del escritor colombiano José Eustasio Rivera. Fue publicada en 1924 y está considerada un clásico de la literatura colombiana y latinoamericana. La novela (con algunas influencias del romanticismo y el modernismo) forma parte de las obras del realismo social latinoamericano. Con abundantes regionalismos en el lenguaje, el relato cambia de narradores, que se sucede e intercala. La historia desarrolla la relación de una pareja de amantes: el poeta Arturo Cova y Alicia, que se fugan a la selva amazónica. A través de ellos, Rivera expone la situación de colonos e indígenas, maltratados y sometidos a un trato deshumano por sus patrones durante la fiebre del caucho, a fines del siglo XIX y comienzos del XX.

The Vortex - José Eustasio Rivera
The Vortex is a novel written in 1924 by the Colombian author José Eustasio Rivera. It is set in at least three different bioregions of Colombia during the rubber boom. This novel narrates the adventures of Arturo Cova, a hot-headed proud chauvinist and his lover Alicia, as they elope from Bogotá, through the eastern plains and later, escaping from criminal misgivings, through the amazon rainforest of Colombia. In this way Rivera is able to describe the magic of these regions, with their rich biodiversity, and the lifestyle of the inhabitants. However, one of the main objectives of the novel is to reveal the appalling conditions that workers in the rubber factories experience. The Vortex also introduces the reader to the tremendous hardship of enduring the overwhelming and adverse environment of the rainforest, as the protagonists (Arturo Cova and Alicia) get lost and are unable to be found. As the book says: ¡Los devoró la selva! (literally, "The jungle devoured them!").

Doña Bárbara - Rómulo Gallegos
Doña Bárbara es una novela escrita por el venezolano Rómulo Gallegos y publicada por Editorial Araluce, el 15 de febrero de 1929. Ha sido reeditada más de cuarenta veces y traducida a otros idiomas. Consta de tres partes y se ambienta en los llanos de Apure en Venezuela, en los predios del río Arauca. Doña Bárbara es la novela venezolana más popular: desde su aparición, en 1929, se leyó con avidez quizás porque entre líneas Gallegos expresaba su rebeldía al régimen dictatorial de Juan Vicente Gómez y al atraso que vivía el país. La novela examina el tópico sociológico, de raíz positivista, civilización frente a barbarie en la vida venezolana rural. Entre otros méritos, se destaca la maestría del escritor en cuanto a la creación de personajes, así como también la descripción del paisaje llanero.

Úrsula - Maria Firmina dos Reis
Úrsula é um romance da escritora maranhense Maria Firmina dos Reis publicado em 1859. É considerado o primeiro romance escrito por uma mulher no Brasil. O romance foi publicado com o pseudônimo "uma maranhense". O romance foi ter segunda edição, essa facsimilar, apenas 1975 graças a organização de Horácio de Almeida. Úrsula é considerado um romance precursor da temática abolicionista na literatura brasileira, pois é anterior à poesia de Castro Alves e ao As vítimas-algozes de Joaquim Manoel de Macedo. Maria Firmina desconstrói uma história literária etnocêntrica e masculina até mesmo em suas ramificações afro-descendentes. Úrsula não seria apenas o primeiro romance abolicionista da literatura brasileira - fato que nem todos os historiadores admitem - mas é também o primeiro romance da literatura afro-brasileira, entendida esta como produção de autoria afro-descendente, que tematiza o negro a partir de uma perspectiva interna e comprometida politicamente em recuperar e narrar a condição do ser negro no Brasil.

Úrsula is considered a precursor novel of the abolitionist theme in Brazilian literature, since it predates the poetry of Castro Alves and the victims-tormentors of Joaquim Manoel de Macedo. Maria Firmina deconstructs an ethnocentric and masculine literary history even in its Afro-descendant ramifications. Úrsula would not only be the first abolitionist novel of Brazilian literature - a fact that not all historians admit - but it is also the first novel of Afro-Brazilian literature, understood as a production of Afro-descendant authorship.

Memórias Póstumas de Brás Cubas é um romance escrito por Machado de Assis, desenvolvido em princípio como folhetim, de março a dezembro de 1880, na Revista Brasileira, para, no ano seguinte, ser publicado como livro, pela então Tipografia Nacional como Memorias Posthumas de Braz Cubas. O livro tem como marcas um tom cáustico e novo estilo na obra de Machado de Assis, bem como audácia e inovação temática no cenário literário nacional, que o fez receber, à época, resenhas estranhadas. Confessando adotar a "forma livre" de Laurence Sterne em seu Tristram Shandy (1759–67), ou de Xavier de Maistre, em Memórias Póstumas rompe com a narração linear e objetivista de autores proeminentes da época, como Flaubert e Zola, para retratar o Rio de Janeiro e sua época em geral com pessimismo, ironia e indiferença — um dos fatores que fizeram com que fosse amplamente considerada a obra que iniciou o Realismo no Brasil, ainda que com elementos livres e próprios a Machado de Assis.

The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas, also translated as Epitaph of a Small Winner, is a novel by the Brazilian writer Joaquim Maria Machado de Assis (born in Rio de Janeiro City, then Imperial Capital of Brazil). Published in 1881, the novel has a unique style of short, erratic chapters shifting in tone and style. Instead of the clear and logical construction of a normal nineteenth-century realist novel, the novel makes use of surreal devices of metaphor and playful narrative construction. It is considered the first novel of the realist movement in Brazil.

Auto da Compadecida é uma peça teatral em forma de auto, em três atos, escrita pelo autor brasileiro Ariano Suassuna em 1955. Sua primeira encenação aconteceu em 1956, no Recife, em Pernambuco. A peça também foi encenada em 1974, com direção de João Cândido. Trata-se de um drama ocorrido na região Nordeste do Brasil, com elementos da tradição da literatura de cordel, do gênero comédia e traços do barroco católico brasileiro. A obra mistura cultura popular e tradição religiosa. Na escrita, apresenta traços de linguagem oral, demonstrando na fala do personagem sua classe social. Há também regionalismos, pelo fato de a história se passar no nordeste, região em que o autor nasceu.
