i spent 3 months watching gilmore girls and i finally finished it and a year in the life and then netflix is like hmm what should we recommend... gilmore girls season 1 episode 1 is starting in 3 seconds
#against my better judgement i watched a year in the life again and it was so much worse the second time. i only watched it when it first#came out and then forgot everything that happened because it was so bad it didnt even have to be that bad but it was so bad.#like this might be an unpopular opinion but god whenever they reboot shows or do like a reunion the magic from the original is just gone#that came out wrong i dont mean the original show loses it's magic but that the reboot is missing the thing that made the original special#like ok spoilers and also unpopular opinions but there was just like no chemistry between any of the cast anymore IMO. imo dont come for me#i have no idea what the actors were doing or what they had to move around to make cameos or whatever but just imo alexis was like on another#planet i have no idea why rory was like that. it was just so. routine and expected ? like they were acting how we would expect them to act#but it was just so insincere? i guess is the word#like season 7 sucked and we all know it but god season 7 was better than a year in the life in retrospect#the ONLY good thing about a year in the life is emilys story like good for her finally living her own life and finding what she loves#that makes sense and that all adds up like love that for her.#im biased because ive been a jess girl since i was 8 but jess. fantastic. sucks that he's still in love with rory but hes doing great fine#lane deserved more than that that was bullshit that she was there for 5 minutes and sookie too like#from what i remember melissa mccarthy couldnt be in it or didnt want to or i dont know but i didnt like that they essentially made sookie#abandon jackson and her kids idk.#christopher i dont care about but PARIS deserved more as well#dont get me started on the wild plot omg.#but that's another thing that ruins the reboots is they just try to add such topical references and it just ages so badly imo#and anyway im just so confused. rory is still sleeping with logan but she has a boyfriend whose name she cant remember but also#she's having one night stands at comic con ?#all for the show to end with SPOILER her saying she's pregnant ?#? ? ?#?#ok.#like. they ruined her character a long time ago but they just completely gave up in this.#lorelai is lorelai i expected nothing else so it was boring i just. think this was the wrong show to do a reunion with i dont know.#i didnt watch it but i think the friends thing is the best way to go where they dont make new episodes but just bring the cast back together#like it was so much better with us all just imagining luke and lorelai got married and had another kid and rory went on to be a journalist#and that was that but here we are

Book Review : One Last Stop, by Casey McQuiston
4/5 stars
(light spoilers)
Alright so this was delightful from start to finish. The concept, first of all, was great - loner college student with a knack for investigation, August, falls in love with badass butch amnesiac from the 70s who is stuck out of time in the New York subway, Jane ; awesome. I find subways fascinating, full of history and spooky vibes and potential encounters and dreary routine and urban poetry (I guess this feeds into my obsession with underground places lmao) and the story made full use of the setting. Plus something about the smut scene in an empty metro carriage at 3 am over the Manhattan Bridge was like !!! ok unrealistic but blablabla women being scared away from public spaces and queer ppl being assaulted in the metro etc etc. beautiful. healing.
the dialogue is funny, the two main characters are interesting and likeable and their chemistry has a lot of electric zing and realness to it. sweet but not desexualized or trying too hard to be 'wholesome'. something about their dynamic of two characters who have drifted between places and have never been able to really put down roots due to complicated family history, finding an anchor in each other (on a moving train no less!) really worked for me. plus points for making the love interest a beautiful, desirable, butch character (and Chinese American as well) bc i feel there is so not enough of those. plus it's nice to have a bi character that's an awkward virgin instead of a Casanova, that's also stereotype breaking. honestly good bi rep.
i also really liked the found family of quirky roommates. overall it's a pretty classic stories of early-twenties coming of age, becoming an adult, learning to let people in, putting down roots, daring to become yourself fully, letting go of your past, etc - but done very well. liked all the nods to queer history as well, how entangled it is with city life, and i loved all the 'missed connections' notes of how Jane made an impression on people throughout the years.
unpopular opinion but i was never the biggest fan of Red White and Royal Blue, found it fun but too tropey, kinda bland, and honestly overrated. (and the Disneyfication of US politics really grating. also i just read too many presidential AU fics that were like. better.) my fave part of it was the character of Nora, the foul mouthed witty friend, and the author went with that sort of tone here, which i think she does very well, plus overall it feels like a more original and fully realized story. (which, again, is just my opinion, but it's again frustrating how little wlw stories get attention compared to mlm ones, etc.) so she's kind of won me over with this one, i might pick up 'I kissed Shara Wheeler' at some point.
a few quibbles that kept it from being an all time fave : i do still find her writing a bit, hm, immature in places, not as evocative as it could be. things do get tied up almost a little too neatly, and the love interest's radical politics feel a bit more like an aesthetic gimmick but the book has a big subplot about saving a landmark diner from gentrification so i'll give that a pass. Regarding August, i am also kind of annoyed that every single shitty parents storyline ends up with 'but they tried their best and we're more alike than we know and we reconcile because family!:!!!' like it would be nice to have characters' happy ending be them enforcing their boundaries and wanting distance for once. but maybe that's not fluffy romance territory idk. Also, the cover is - if not awful, nice colors - too close to boring Canva corporate style, i hate this trend, this could have been so much cooler honestly !!! but none of those things are a big deal.
anyway !! i enjoyed it a lot and as a light, funny romantic beach read it was perfect. definitely goes on my list of fave sapphic romances.

nancy/ace! And literati, for a throwback, haha.
omg, my 2 favorite subjects
OK, so Nancy/Ace
1. What made you ship it?
They're just so...well-matched. I remember thinking I was imagining things in season 1 because it did not seem like the show was actively trying to do any of the stuff that I was seeing, but the chemistry was so immediately there, and the complete invasion of personal space was so immediately there, and even in the pilot you have Nancy refusing to let anyone in emotionally while also saying that she told Ace all of her deep dark traumas over the summer (*ahem*). I think I first realized it was something I was into around their visit to the library (maybe a little before that?), or when he drank poison for her(!!!), and I was fully on board when he was the only one who knew the truth about Lucy and his first instinct was to protect that secret until she was ready to share it. The way he dives into doing the ritual in 1x17 when everyone else is asking questions just makes my heart feel like it's going to explode, I love it so much.
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
INVASION. OF. PERSONAL. SPACE.
The fact that they both have an inferiority complex and it's so so absurd (Ace is worried he doesn't speak enough languages for her! he speaks 3 languages but that's not enough!! Nancy is an emotional disaster and should really be in so much therapy!!!!! Ace probably should, too!!!)
Excellent gazing.
There's a moment in 2x07 where Nancy realizes Ace and Amanda are flirting and she does these little jealous eyes and it was the first time I thought there was anything intentional going on and it's the best. (related: the way Nancy says "She's competent" in 2x13)
Any and all moments we see text messages between them they are top notch. (MEAT HOOKS!!!)
They both love Horseshoe Bay so much and it informs everything about them.
I can't even talk about the lust curse.
Or the fact that Nancy thinks he has pretty eyes.
OR THE HUG AFTER SHE AND GRANT SAVE HIM.
They. have. a. private. server.
Season 4 is going to be sooooo angsty and I am here for it.
Did I mention the invasion of personal space?
Anyway, there's just so much mutual respect and trust and even when they're mad at each other or not communicating well or dating other people or anything they still care deeply about each other.
Everyone else knew they were in love before they did.
HANDS.
UGH I COULD GO ON FOREVER.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
I do not get why the fandom is so invested in Ace calling her "Nance" when the specific way that he says "Nancy" is the hottest thing in the fucking world.
AND MY BELOVED LITERATI
1. What made you ship it?
I honestly barely remember because it's been literally twenty years, but I do know that I went into season 2 very invested in Rory and Dean (and very alone in that, the fandom was intensely Trory in a way that is hilarious to me now), and I hated Jess for a long time because I didn't want anything to get in the way of that (hahahahaha). But he won me over somewhere in season 2, because I do remember reading the spoilers for "I Can't Get Started" and seeing that they were going to kiss and losing my shit in a way that only a 14 year old can (lies, I lost my shit so hard during the Nancy Drew finale that I spilled half a diet coke on my couch and now there is a giant stain on the fold-out mattress). Like running around the house and screaming about it.
And then the night before "Let the Games Begin" aired (it might have been "They Shoot Gilmores...") I got grounded and got my tv privileges taken away and I wrote my parents a letter explaining why it was extremely important that I be allowed to watch and they actually let me.
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
Well, let's talk about mutual respect again. Let's talk about chemistry again.
Book nerds in love.
It's a cliche to say 22.8 miles/you looked it up, but 22.8 miles!/you looked it up! (True story: there is a picture of me on Buzzfeed holding a sign that says 22.8 miles/you looked it up, because they went to the same Luke's pop up that I did before AYITL and asked people in line what their favorite Gilmore Girls moments were.)
They pushed each other and expected more from each other. I think the ways that Jess nudged Rory back to herself in season 6 and AYITL get more attention, but Rory was also so important to getting Jess to a place where he could be that person for her. (Anyway, see chapter 4 of MYatRT this weekend for more of my thoughts on this. It's a ~theme~)
Separate from the actual, on-screen ship: Rory and Jess were what drove me to stars-hollow.org in 2004 (right after "Nag Hammadi..." aired), and that message board, and specifically the Lit thread, gave me some of my dearest friends in the world, people who are still in my life every single day, people I've vacationed with, people I love deeply. I would love them for that if for no other reason.
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
IDK, the discourse around GG has changed so much over the years (I have to stop looking at the subreddit. It makes me feel 1000 years old), and at no point have I agreed with all of it, but no specific examples spring to mind. I'm not as much of a Dean hater as many (probably has something to do with my answer to 1), which is not necessarily a ship opinion considering Dean is not a part of the ship, but does seem related to them anyway.
OH! I do think it's funny the way people use the ship name now! People call Rory and Jess Literati, but we used to call ourselves Literati (or really, Literatis, even though Literati is already plural. But really, we mostly used Lit/Lits). Like, we were the stars-hollow.org Lits. Lits wrote Literati fic, but I don't think we would say we wrote fic about Literati. Does that make sense? IDK I think it's a subtle difference, but it's there.

SPOILERS AHOY
Don't hate me but...Unpopular opinion alert.
.... Stowaway wasn't that good.
Don't get me wrong, the acting was great, AWESOME chemistry between the actors.
BUT predictable with too many plot holes. Not enough character development. If we're gonna suspend belief and believe Michael could survive a ROCKET TAKEOFF INTO SPACE, shouldn't there be a better way to conserve oxygen?? And if Dr. Zoe has meds that can kill, can't we believe she has meds to induce a coma?? Like, put the bitch to sleep! Or like, lock him in a chamber with reduced oxygen, just enough so he's sleeping beauty, know what I mean? Yeah ok, maybe that doesn't make sense "scientifically" or whatever, but aren't we already suspending belief??
And just sayin, the ending was visible from miiiiiles away. Are we really that surprised? The only crew member without ties to home? Duh. And also, not enough character development to really get invested with the sacrifice.
"hey guys, here's a solution..." "NO NO, WE MUST SACRIFICE ONE OF OUR OWN, IT'S THE ONLY WAY" 🙄
All of that said, the ending was heart wrenching for sure. I'm not saying it was awful. I just expected a bit more I guess...
Please someone prove me wrong

Ok one more for the ask: that nasty old guy, Gai
One thousand years later… My focus meter is refilled. ^^
favorite thing about them: Oh my, I do like me a certain type of bastard. ^^; I think Evolt was a little much for me, as excellent as his actor was, bc of the whole planetary-scale plan thing… Regular ol’ corporate capitalist douchebag is more my speed.
least favorite thing about them: How much the writers are making him focus on Aruto. It’s very ‘meh’ to me, and I don’t feel any intensity of drama to that ‘relationship’ like I get when Fuwa’s involved (and maybe Horobi, even???). In fact, that scene where they confront him about Horobi escaping just made it clear to me I could be interested in the Aruto and Gai dynamic as long as Fuwa was involved, or Horobi (*points to my own writing* so, Toei…)
favorite line: Oh, god, I don’t know. I think it’s going to have to go to his ‘You’re afraid of me, aren’t you?’ to Fuwa from ep 25.
brOTP: None, unless you count him getting stabbed in the leg by… Tsk, tsk. No spoilers now.
OTP: Him and a jail cell, honestly.
nOTP: Him and Horobi, which I did to myself. Also him and Aruto, though for different reasons… I just don’t get any intensity, chemistry, or real drama between them at all. On a scale of ‘Kairi and Zamigo’ to ‘Gai and Juggler’… They’re on the same spot as ‘Kairi and Zamigo,’ just about. A little further along bc they actually interact, at least, but about the same. I don’t doubt I could be getting more from the dynamic if it were written differently (and included other characters more, and was more personal…) but as it is, I just don’t.
random headcanon: Until proven otherwise, I will hold strong to the idea that Gai and Horobi met and have a history, that Gai helped the Ark hack him, and maybe even that it was Gai who removed his earpieces. If Toei won’t do anything w/ having Gai step on Horobi’s chest like that, then I will.
unpopular opinion: Maybe that I’m not that into him and Aruto? It seems to be pretty popular and I just… Don’t feel it. Personally, for me, it doesn’t feel like there’s enough there. Maybe it’s bc Aruto isn’t that interesting to me? Ugh, but sometimes he is… I dunno.
song i associate with them: Hellfire from Hunchback of Notre Dame. No, I have not been thinking about PMBT (she said, like a liar).
favorite picture of them: At first I was like ‘I have no pictures,’ and then I remembered this one from the most recent ep, which I like mostly bc of the Firefighter who is taller than both of them standing there like ‘wtf???’

“the garden of forking paths” impressions
{Quick request to anyone reading: I’m watching OUaT for the first time, and I want to avoid spoilers. So, if you want to discuss something spoilery, I’d be grateful if you could start a new post for that. Thank you!}
Today on Once Upon a Time: Resist!
The new alliance against Belfrey is taking some (very) tentative steps to ruin her day, and in the flashback, something very similar is happening. Only with better organisation and a lot more leather.
Tumblr media
please understand that this is the opposite of me complaining
Also, while I liked this episode well enough, the last two minutes or so kind of stole the whole entire show. Just saying.
We finally get some villain motivation!
Tumblr media
And it is depressing as hell!
Yes, it also makes Belfrey immediately more interesting, but just… dead child. That’s dark. And apparently, Ella is in some way responsible for that. I assume it’s along the lines of snow being “responsible” for Daniel’s death, but she clearly still blames herself. Enough that one Tremaine offers that terrible deal, she’s ready to take it and become a murderer, rather than asking for help.
Tumblr media
This scene also works on another level, in that it shows how well Tremaine knows Ella and knows which buttons to push to make her cooperate. It’s unsettling in a way that’s different from the direct “do this or everyone dies” ultimatum.
The fact that Ella agrees shows more than anything how incredibly alone she has been, and for a very long time. She doesn’t even think to ask for help, because she’s certain that she doesn’t deserve it. And even if she did, who would help her? Nobody ever has so far.
I think that’s why Henry has such trouble getting through to her. It’s hard to believe that someone only has your best interest in mind, despite barely knowing you, when the world so far just been horrible to you. Even Tiana and her resistance never did anything to help her, and citing “not enough evidence” seems late just a tiny bit of a lame excuse.
And it’s all the more reason why loved Regina coming in at the last moment to stop Ella from doing something she won’t be able to take back. Even if Ella doesn’t know the details, it’s clear that Regina’s advice comes from hard-earned experience. She knows exactly what she’s talking about, and she’s not willing to let someone else walk down that path without at least offering them away out.
Tumblr media
(I also have wonder what might be going through Regina’s head, here. Because Ella’s situation, despite some superficial similarities with her own past, is much closer to Snow’s side of their story. I don’t really have a line of argument here, it’s just something I like to think about.)
A very similar situation arises between Jacinda and Roni, too, and it’s a great example of the thing the modern-day plotline does best this episode; the actual  plot itself is OK-ish, but the moments between characters stand out. Each of them makes me care more about these characters, even though I know they are cursed and not entirely themselves.
Tumblr media
The modern-day story does good things, too, not least of them making the characters appear like real people that I care about. Even if they’re all cursed and not really themselves.
A short but effective scene in this vein was the one between Jacinda and Sabine. It established the stakes for the episode (more on that later), and it showed that these two are truly friends, not just roommates who mostly get along with each other. This also nicely parallels with the flashback, where we finally get to see Tiana in an actual speaking role. I think the modern-day plot is giving us him still how this relationship will develop in the flashback.
Tumblr media
(And in an unrelated question: does anyone have the ship name for them? Look, I love me some glass believer, and these two are wonderful as friends, but also... ::gestures helplessly::)
Back with our conspirators, I giggled about Henry being research guy (look, Belle isn’t around, you’ll just have to make do), but maybe Rogers shouldn’t be the eye on the street either, because he cannot lie. At all.
Tumblr media
Actually, as I said in the post that tumblr ate (seriously, I swear I posted this while watching and I cannot find the thing for the life of me), nobody on this show can lie for shit. None of them. And when they do, they only ever get away with it, because everybody else is crap at lying, too, and have no idea how to spot it. The only reason Rumple’s lies ever work is that he is the only one with a decent poker face. He’s still bad at lying, he just doesn’t telegraph it!
And speaking of Rumple/Weaver (please, show, help me out here): I am about 60% sure that he’s working against Belfrey, but please don’t ask me what his endgame is, because I just do not know. Right now, I mostly feel reminded of that season 1 exchange with Emma. I don’t know if he’s working with Belfrey or against her. Probably diagonally, or something. And yes, I’ll keep working on that, thank you.
Tumblr media
look at that smug lil’ shit, though
The whole thing with the corrupt building official seemed a bit... well, it’s either a waste of time or brilliant foreshadowing, and I won’t know until later. Because on its face, it didn’t show me much that I didn’t already know. Rogers has a strong moral compass, Weaver doesn’t, and he’s playing his own game.
OK, unpopular opinion time! (Maybe)
I loved that Jacinda burned those petitions.
Tumblr media
No, wait, hear me out! Not because I thought “yes, petitions are stupid anyway” or “yes, this is the right thing to do!” I absolutely think it was wrong of her. It was a moment of weakness, and it was presented as such. But it was also honest to her character. At the beginning of the episode, she tells us what her priorities are. It’s not fighting against her stepmother, it’s getting her daughter back. Being apart from Lucy is her worst-case scenario and it’s killing her. So when Belfrey offers her everything she once, plus a good place for her child to live, free of worries about rent (which obviously occupy a lot of her time right now)… I don’t know, Jacinda, as she has been portrayed so far, is not the person who would just turn that offer down. She has a deeply selfish streak when it comes to her daughter, and I think it’s one of the things that makes her interesting.
Of course, she then realises that in doing so she has alienated Lucy, and disappointed her deeply.
<SADLUCY>
And that is what makes her realise that if she is going to help with this, she cannot just think of herself. Lucy expects her mum to be a hero, and I think this is the point where Jacinda realises that she herself also wants to be one. And all of that culminates in the heartfelt if a little cheesy speech near the end. (Also, I will totally admit that I loved seeing the community come together against Belfrey in this way. Look, sometimes you just want some heartwarming fluff, no strings attached.)
Tumblr media
Compared to all of that, Lucy finding that bit of the glass slipper together with Henry seemed almost like an afterthought. Though I do love how Henry has basically already adopted her, and quite independently from his feelings for her mother. My guy, have such excellent news for you. Of course, then the end of the episode happens, and…
Tumblr media
please do not with your face, sir
That was evil. That was so not OK, Belfrey, I don’t even know where to start. And you know what? This won’t magically get better once he gets his memories back, because this grief and heartbreak will still have happened. I think it’s sometimes easy to think that the curse-memories aren’t real and therefore don’t count, but the emotions people feel due to these memories still are. I know the show never really goes into this, but this stuff still changes your entire brain chemistry. Even when he wakes up and knows it as fake, Henry will always live with the trauma of grieving for his dead wife and child, even though they never existed.
I don’t know, it’s just really messed up and I wanted to get into it a little.
And going off that graveyard scene… holy crap, that stinger! There’s a lot to unpack, starting with “clearly, Tremaine’s policy on magic is less a rule and more a very loose guideline.”
Also, Belfrey seems to know who she is and might just be the person who cast the curse, after all. I remain unconvinced because if it were that easy, we would have seen her do it by now, but she’s back on the list of suspects.
And speaking of suspect things:
Tumblr media
Wooooow.
I mean. There is some capital-H History here. And whatever happened between these two, they’re both still pissed. Probably for different reasons. The fact that Belfrey (or Tremaine, really) basically goes to her for advice, no matter how much she dresses it up as a demand, suggests some kind of mentor/student relationship gone awry.
After a little brainstorming session with @idesignedthefjords, we narrowed the woman with the enormous hair in Belfrey’s “tower” down to either Rapunzel or the weird witch who thought a newborn was a reasonable price to ask for a couple of vegetables. (The latter of which would beg the question what, precisely, happened to Rapunzel)
Then again, this is Once, so she could be either, both, or someone completely different. My vote is for the mom in The Juniper Tree, because my vote is always for more mentions of that particular wtf-ery. (Seriously, google that if you don’t know what it is.)
So, Tremaine is not actually interested in keeping the curse a secret. Quite the opposite, in fact. She needs true belief in magic to wake up/reanimate her daughter, and getting it will destroy the person she takes it from.
I love this. So much. Because it lends a whole new layer of tension to the curse-breaking plot. Yes, of course I want all these people to become their true selves again, but I don’t want Tremaine to profit from that. Especially not if it hurts one of the people have already come to like. I am really conflicted, and I love it.
To come back to the topic of the curse for a moment… what’s really missing right now is a possible motive. If Tremaine is the one who cast it, then it would be because she thinks for some ungodly reason that her daughter can be revived more easily in the Land Without Magic. Which seems doubtful at best.
It could be Tower Lady, but if so, she either messed up royally or is playing a seriously complicated long game. Always a possibility, but again: motive. I need one.
There’s always the possibility that someone completely different cast it, but I doubt it was one of the heroes, and there’s just not enough information on the remaining cast to tell either way. (Technically, Rumple would qualify, but I refuse to contemplate a reality where that is the reason Belle isn’t around. That is the Hell Angst, and we are not going there, thank you very much.)

thoughts on the 2017 indian movies i watched
telugu:
gautamiputra shatakarni: balakrishna’s answer to baahubali. good but not amazing, i guess. idk i liked shriya’s performance but it was super small and hema malini was disappointing. it was pretty forgettable even though it was a hit.
shatamanam bhavathi: cute rom-com as sharwanand movies usually are. anupama parameswaran, i loved (she was amazing in a...aa too!), and the whole caste did a great job, esp prakash raj. also, songs!!!! nilavade, mellaga tellarindoi, and shatamanam bhavathi are my faves!!
baahubali: the conclusion: oh. my. god. this was even better than the first!! everyone was so amazing the songs are wonderful strong female characters!!!! i loved the movie and it’s very hard not to! also, ramya krishna. just phenomenal. this is just a huge milestone and rajamouli deserves every ounce of praise he gets as does everyone who helped make the film happen. #jaimahishmathi!!
radha: action love story. standard, but good time pass. worth a watch.
rarandoi veduka chuddam: i thought it was not bad but my family did not like at all. just another love story with action at the end. jagapathi babu was good and naga chaitanya looks really hot. rakul is goals as always.
duvvada jagannadham: masala film, but entertaining. comedy was good and songs were good. allu arjun looks *heart eyes* and pooja hegde is pretty much perfect. it’s kinda copied-ish from jr. ntr’s adhurs and adhurs is better imho but it’s worth a watch.
ninnu kori: loved!! it’s a rom-com with a twist. nani films are usually good and this did not disappoint. the songs are really nice cinematography is picturesque and the art direction really deserves a mention bc it was sumptuous! niveda thomas did a great job as did aadhi. the comedy was subtle but hilarious.
shamanthakamani: cool story, not executed well. forgettable.
fidaa: i’m usually a huge sekhar kammula fan, i even liked life is beautiful even tho it was just a rehash of happy days. fidaa though, unpopular opinion, i just did not like. i liked sai pallavi and it was a pretty movie, and a lot of people loved it, but i guess it just didn’t do it for me? i loved his earlier films- anand, godavari, happy days, dollar dreams (his debut) so i was super excited for this, especially since it got such rave reviews, and i really liked the vachinde song but i ended up being rlly disappointed coming out of the theater.
goutham nanda: again normal masala movie. gopi chand (SPOILER) plays both hero and villain and excels in the latter role. not surprising tho since one of his strongest performances imo was as the villain in varsham. don’t know why it became such a big flop tho it wasn’t that bad.
lie: good idea, entertaining to watch. i’m lowkey a fan of arjun (gentleman, oke okkadu/mudhalvan, drohi/kurudhipunaal, to name a few favorites of his) and nithiin’s movies are usually watchable. again, idk why it was a flop it wasn’t that bad.
nene raju nene mantri: i usually like rana but this movie was best left alone in the 80’s/90’s. watch it for kajal looking rlly pretty and rana looking rlly hot.
anando brahma: was a surprise favorite. it was absolutely hilarious. one of the best horror comedies made in telugu after prema katha chitram blew up and everyone started making copy cats. there’s like a ten-twenty minute portion somewhere a bit later in the middle that’s just. incredibly funny.
arjun reddy: kind of problematic but also so progressive and idk i liked it a lot despite its flaws. to start off vijay devarakonda is just absolutely phenomenal and so is the guy who plays his best friend. the best friend’s comedy to his dad about pee/poop is hilarious. it’s darkly funny, the songs are soooo nice (i personally love love love madhurame!) and cinematography is very well done. overall, a very well crafted movie that depicts the human condition, almost a modern day devadas.
kathalo rajakumari: i got bored and fell asleep halfway thru and i don’t usually enjoy nara rohit movies so this was a let down
jai lava kusa: cool story and ntr was really really good, but that’s pretty much it. very masala.
spyder: it was so bad and i was so sad bc i like ar murugadoss movies generally, and i like mahesh babu movies generally, and i like rakul preet singh movies generally.
mahanubhavudu: cute romcom with a lot of bhale bhale magidivoy vibes. seriously, a lot. but, worth a watch.
raju gari gadhi 2: boring, not funny, ending harkened to 90s. different movie references were fun tho.
psv garuda vega: a lot of ppl liked this but i wasn’t one of them. i got bored and fell asleep halfway thru.
mca (middle class abbayi): usually nani films are different and cute but this was total masala straight from 90s/early 2000s. bhumika was good tho and sai pallavi and nani were cute together.
hello: was cute and i liked it but was more like three different movies in one. ramya krishna was good as was jagapathi babu. some songs were catchy, good cinematography and art direction. kalyani priyadarshan looks cute but doesn’t act that believably and akhil to me doesn’t look all that amazing. the parkour sequence seemed unnecessary and there was no chemistry between the lead pair.
movies i wanted to watch but couldn’t: ghazi, andhhagadu
hindi:
ok jaanu: not as good as ok bangaram/ok kanmani, which is not surprising. shaad ali can’t compare to mani ratnam.
half girlfriend: boring but camera work was nice as were the songs.
hindi medium: loved it!!!!!!!!!! irrfan khan was amazing as was saba quamar, who plays his wife. a very strong supporting cast as well. it’s an extremely funny movie that satirizes the lengths parents are going to to make sure their kids get into the “right” schools. again, i loved it. definitely definitely worth a watch.
dear maya: i absolutely adore manisha koirala and she was absolutely perfect in this film. the overall movie was really good but manisha’s performance just stands out. she did a great job and the film would’ve been even better if it had focused on her character more. songs were also catchy and fun and the overall vibe of the film is super fun too. cinematography is a+. give it a watch!!
mubarakan: funny entertainer that’s worth a watch. ratna pathak is good as always, as is anil kapoor.
movies i wanted to watch but couldn’t: mom, jagga jasoos, secret superstar, lipstick under my burkha!!!!!!!!, a death in the gunj!!!!!, trapped, newton!!!
tamil:
maragadha naanayam (marakathamani in telugu): super funny black comedy, I loved it!! aadhi was rlly good and the supporting caste was awesome as well. totally worth a watch!!
movies i wanted to watch but couldn’t: kaatru veliyidai (cheliyaa in telugu; i’m a huge fan of mani ratnam so hopefully soon!!!!!!), oru kidayin karunai manu
