The first attempt to reach the mythical lighthouse of Kallur, on the remote island of Kalsoy, ended with a genuine disappointment. Drive over an hour from the island of Vagar to the embarkation / ferry to the island of Kalsoy / drive to the north of the island / moderate 2-hour hike to the lighthouse: as soon as you arrive at the site, a dense, milky fog has wrapped around the promontory, making it almost impossible to see even at three 3 meters. And yet the magic of the place was perceived, that taste of "remote frontier". Back then back disheartened and broken ... we soon decided to try again: 2 days later we are again to ring car / ferry / car / hike ... and this time the lighthouse was finally waiting for us. No doubt it was worth it. Swipe to the right for panorama details. ___ Il primo tentativo di raggiungere il mitico faro di Kallur, sulla remota isola di Kalsoy, si era concluso con una autentica delusione. Guidare oltre un'ora dall'isola di Vagar fino all'imbarco/traghetto per l'isola di Kalsoy/guidare verso il nord dell'isola/moderata hike di 2 ore fino al faro: appena giunti sul luogo, una fittissima nebbia lattiginosa ha avvolto tutto il promontorio, rendendo pressochè impossibile vedere anche a tre 3 metri. Eppure si percepiva comunque la magia del luogo, quel sapore di "remota frontiera". Tornati quindi indietro sconfortati ed affranti...ci siamo presto decisi a ritentare: 2 giorni dopo eccoci nuovamente ad inanellare auto/traghetto/auto/hike ... e questa volta finalmente il faro era lì ad aspettarci. Another portrait of Mt Everest, real name given centuries ago by Tibetan is Chomolungma, and later by Nepali Sagarmatha. Both mean head of the sky. Standing at 8848m, altitude of cruiser plane, up there nothing can live due to the super low pressure and the crazy cold can be 70c below zero (with strong winds). The place of nothingness except snow rock and ice. Whats push humans to going up there and climb this summit ? Because it's simply the biggest on earth ? Or for something else ? The question find differents answers with differents people. During a long time i had no interrest about Everest, may be because he's the famous in Himalayas, and almost every foreigners came in Nepal to reach its base camp or climbing it. But since a year, the call taked me too. And the huge Chomolungma is now on my biggest projects list (yes i have a list 😁). Cholatse 6440m the Himalaya's shark fin and Taboche 6545m, standing above the Ngozumpa glacier, which is the largest glacier in Nepal (31km long) and reputed to be the largest in the whole Himalayas. This glacier is also the main topic for global warming in hight altitudes. Over itself there is lakes built by melting of blue ice. It remain a big problem in case of rupture for the villages down in the valley. This zone is my favourite in Khumbu and the main location for my next movie project.
