7 yr old Annabeth that memorized the exact way to get home from school because her dad forgot to pick her up again. 10 yr old Annabeth waiting to be taken back to camp because she couldn’t last a few days without getting into an argument with her father or step-mother. 12 yr old Annabeth that feels like she can’t ask for things from her mortal family. 14 yr old Annabeth that starts to cover up monster battle scars at home because it might “scare” her step-brothers. 16 yr old Annabeth who doesn’t know how to react when Sally helps her calm down from a panic attack when she visits to give updates on Percys disappearance. 16 yr old Annabeth that starts feeling less like she has tip toe around the Jackson-Blofis’ and starts spending more and more time with them. 16 yr old Annabeth that starts talking to her camp siblings about why she wakes up in the middle of the night shaking and muttering something about Luke or mount Tam. 17 yr old Annabeth that never told anyone that she spent her birthday in Tartarus, fighting for her life in so much pain and fear. 17 yr old Annabeth who only told Fredrick once that there was another war, all he said was that he was sorry that a sixteen year old had to go through that. But Annabeth was 17. She was 17 and decided to spend the night with Percy.
THIS IS ALL SO ON POINT AND I HATE IT (and i love how you said it)
annabeth deserved so much better. my only consolation is that she has a partner who loves her and values her more than life itself. she has a mother-in-law and father-in-law (basically) who adore her and make her feel loved.
and one day, she’s gonna have her own children. and she’s gonna be the most amazing, supportive, loving mother to them. she’s gonna be the mom that she always wanted. and it’s gonna be so healing for her 😭

like you joke but genuinely i think dan went on tour to find himself and prove that he could do it on his own, but has realized that he doesn't have to. they spent more than 2.5 weeks apart and dan said never fucking again

hiya lock!! 💖 what are your thoughts on sunday hsr? i'd love if you wrote something for him someday!
hmmmmmmmmmmmm yandere sunday.... the inbox has made their interest in bird man known. here are some of my initial, basic thoughts:
he's controlling (surprise, surprise) but favors an 'organic' approach over clipping your wings outright. that would be an absolute last resort, prompted by your life being in mortal danger. he wants to help guide you to conclusions he's made long ago. this way, you're less likely to resist a philosophy you've adopted for yourself. it's a given that sentient beings don't want their free will infringed upon. recognizing this, he settles for the more time-consuming approach of overseeing your life from afar and uses direct course correction sparingly.
should you catch on, confronting him directly doesn't lead to an escalation like one might expect. he'll hear you out without twisting your words or using intimidation tactics. once you're finished, he'll present his own argument: haven't you been happier since he's entered your life? he'll acknowledge that 'happiness', qualia that it is, though difficult to measure, can still be tracked. there's a reason he's asked about your emotional state so often. since removing stressors in your life, you've been in higher spirits. isn't that a good thing?
issues such as privacy and autonomy don't do much for him. what good is freedom if it means wandering in the wilderness? isn't it better to be taken care of? hunger, thirst, physical ailments; alleviating these troubles has been at the forefront of civilization's development. this is his all-consuming empathy. it envelops you whole and chains you in place with velvety soft restraints. his sincerity is almost distressing; how can you challenge what he believes is in your best interest?
"a cornered fledgling will struggle against those trying to save it," he'll say. "this struggle is natural; a forgivable instinct. the rescuer must carry on despite this resistance. if they don't, aren't they complicit in whatever misfortune befalls the wounded creature?"

I imagine that once both Simon and reader are comfortable with each other, at some point Johnny catches them 'cuddling' on the couch, just purring away. (Johnny takes both pictures and videos)
Oh absolutely. Simon knows he's there, but he won't disturb the omega curled against him, half asleep and purring away. He'll get his revenge against Johnny eventually, but right now he's got more important things to worry about.

Do you think that Astarion is actually decently intelligent or do you think he is real good at hiding his own stupidity?
Ohhh this is an interesting question. I have a whole theory on why Astarion seems like a ditz in game.
Astarion was (technically still is) a magistrate. The man is smart. He went to law school, and likely grew up highly educated. He's not stupid. His vocabulary is quite rich, though you can also attribute that to 200 years ago being the last time he had an earnest conversation with another being. The version of common spoken now in Faerûn is a bit duller. Even Wyll and Gale, also two highly educated men, don't speak the way Astarion does. Wyll even mentions at one point how Astarion's choice of words gives away his age (the whole "agog" bit).
However.
Given how smart Astarion is, him playing the helpless fool works in two ways for him: 1) it guarantees protection from others by way of gaining sympathy; and 2) it allows him to get close to potential targets without raising much suspicion. Mind you, those are both things he did (or at least tries to do) to Tav/Durge if you romance him.
HOWEVER.
My theory toward why he seems a bit off in terms of smarts has to do with him being enthralled by Cazador. Cazador keeps the spawn underfed on purpose as a way to make them more submissive and easily controlled. Their minds are clouded constantly by hunger -- only ever getting enough to keep themselves from going feral. Blood could dance under their noses and they'd never be able to touch it, unless Cazador wills it.
Astarion is essentially starved when we first meet him. But not for long, as he quickly takes off into the night to hunt (probably something he did at first just to see if he could and likely out of pure desperation). Once he realizes he can gorge himself on whatever amount of animal blood he can, he graduates to pushing the boundaries of another rule: the blood of thinking creatures. Yet another thing that was banned by Cazador. Astarion comments on how much sharper his mind is after having fed on the PC.
Anyway, my theory is that once Cazador is dealt with and Astarion is free, he slowly begins to regain all his prior memories as well as his intelligence. Everything is just being suppressed. Once Cazador is gone and he's given regular feedings, the man is a menace. A "too smart for his own good" menace.

Spy x Family is at its heart an anti-war story. And it's a really good one. It's easy to show the blood and gore of a battlefield, but Spy x Family's ability to show the personal tragedy and cost of war is what makes it a cut above most I've seen/read. This isn't about which country is right or wrong, it's how everyone suffers when those at top want to "win the argument" no matter what it takes.
Exactly, and it’s a focus that Endo is meticulously maintaining and reinforcing. He has a story to tell. Let him.

That belly bulge one made me gasp out loud…my heart is PUMPING. It got him thinking about size kink with Arthur cause bro is MASSIVE. Imagine learning how to take him slowly because he’s just so big or the way his hand could literally cover your waist and back……I neeeeeeed him
shushing you gently whenever you gasp and moan that it’s too much—that he’s too big and pushing hair out of your eyes before cooing “i know darlin’, ya can take it”, his voice raspy and his accent thick as he finally bottoms out, his hips pressing into the back of your thighs, big hands curled around the entirety of your kneecaps to hold you open for him

If you’re looking for vampire movies may I recommend Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter? It’s a kung-fu movie/musical about Jesus Christ killing vampires to protect the lesbian population of Ottawa, Canada. Movie of all time imo
I have also watched Lesbian Vampire Killers which is also about lesbian vampires but James Corden is in that so I cannot recommend it without a warning.
every single word of this ask is just blow after blow after blow

ive been wondering, how is Machete remembered in the future, like, does history even remember him? are there articles about him? is his life speculated upon?
I couldn't find the post where I touched upon this before, but a few months ago there was some talk of how he might be viewed in modern times. Machete was a very private person, I don't think he would've kept journals or diaries, and he did his best to cover his tracks so I doubt he would leave behind a lot of information about his personal life. A number of second hand accounts about him would most likely be tainted by his unfavorable public image, at least those dating to his final inquisition years.
The nature of his relationship to the Florentine politician Vasco della Gherardesca might be a topic of discussion in some circles, some historians would strongly suspect that they were lovers and others would adamantly dismiss such theories. I suppose there wouldn't be proof unless parts of their extensive correspondence survived to modern day, or some of the artwork Vasco commissioned after his death.
I remember someone suggesting that perhaps they would be mentioned in an occasional video essay or podcast, in a list of historical figures who might've been lgbt maybe, and I found that terribly wholesome. It's heartwarming to think that they would posthumously be granted some of the understanding and support they didn't get enough during their lifetime.

do you think the fact that Sally was young when Poseidon got her pregnant with percy ever changes her outlook of handling percy and annabeth's relationship, and do you think it would change how she handles it in terms of setting rules and things like that?
if he was dating anyone other than annabeth, i think it would a lot. but he grew up so fast, and went through such horrible things, and all with annabeth right by his side. by the time he started dating annabeth, he had fought on the front lines of a war with her. so i think sally was just so happy to see them alive and okay that she wasn’t too worried about other things. it’s stated in COTG that if sally were to hear annabeth in his room at night, the worst that would happen is her offering annabeth a cup of tea lol. she just wants them to be happy. she also knows annabeth is very level-headed and logical, and isn’t gonna let herself get pregnant at 17 due to not being careful. however, when percy and annabeth started dating, i do think sally definitely gave percy a very detailed talk that made him want to jump off a cliff. a talk that was probably full of “be careful and safe” and “being a good boyfriend means taking care of her, in every way. so make sure you…” followed by her giving him tips, and percy turning bright red and yelling “MOM.” cause sally is iconic

As much as a Greek enjoyed the Hades game having people literally taking for granted the designs of the gods as legit is problematic.
No Hermes isn't Asian coded. He's Greek like every God. Literally what does the word Greek next to Greek gods mean to them? An accessory? Give me a break
I got a few asks like this, so I will try to answer them here. This is the post the asks are referring to, and this is the post that started the whole discussion afaik:
Tumblr media
This is a whole phenomenon that has lasted for decades in the US, first with USians presenting the gods as North Europeans and now as "everything but" North Europeans to combat the previous racist trend. However, they are still completely tone-deaf, self-absorbed, and privileged because while they do this "correction" they're ignoring actual Greeks, and Greek depictions (and depictions of Greek gods in various areas in the past). Westerners might not be aware of this, because they don't know how badly the Greeks have been treated by powerful countries in the past (including their US, thank you for the Junta and our recent fighters' deaths, honey) but the protests about the gods' design are anti-colonialist.
I want you to imagine this trend with whatever pantheon you want from Africa, Asia, South America etc. Imagine that for centuries they are presented as super White North Europeans by certain powerful nations. Now the same nation who did this racist shit in the past comes around and does more racist shit, by NOT presenting these ancient gods as their people view/viewed them but they present them as everything BUT the appearance they had in all their depictions by the locals. All the while NEVER listening to what the people of this culture tell them, all the while comparing the locals to these gods and finding them uglier and savage. Why would this be acceptable? And why are people so comfortable to forget their cultural sensitivities when it comes to Greece?
(I am aware the US racism also expanded to other pantheons but it didn't happen in this exact way so all I'm asking is to walk in our shoes for a bit, to experience a different flavour of colonialism)
This blog stands for absolute equality and it's heavily anti-racist and anti-fascist, with various resources and support links for minorities in Greece. Everyone is welcome here. This blog believes that if you are of Chinese, Pakistani, Nigerian, Roma descent in Greece you must have the same rights as everybody else and the way you look is not "lesser" than anybody else. I just ask people to consider - especially if you are an immigrant - how you, your parents, your grandparents would feel when seeing your important cultural figures treated like this by the US.
As you have understood by now, changing the depiction is not suddenly okay when the Greek gods now have the palest skin with blue eyes and blond hair. No, that's still racist, and Greeks have been repeatedly told that they are lesser for not looking like the beauty ideals these northern countries projected onto our gods.
Asking for accurate god depictions is a matter of wanting your culture to be treated like.... not a prop, for once. Everyone is free to interact and relate with the Greek culture but when you take the Greek culture and its depictions out of the equation, then the whole thing becomes "playing with dolls", and a fandom (as is the case already for the US).
The Greek gods have been used by Westerners in the past to promote White supremacy, and today they are used by Westerners to combat it; but it still happens in the most divorced sense from the Greek culture. USians are still sooo hesitant to REALLY look at another culture that they'd rather lose common sense (aka, depict gods as the locals see them for millennia) than not white-knight for their fellow Westerners. It's actually infuriating that progressives in the US still miss the mark when it comes to combating US neo-colonialism, and whatever elements left in their culture from colonizing European countries.
And how can we tell the Greek gods are used as props in this US political climate? Simple. They themselves will tell you "It's okay to depict those gods however you like because 1. They can transform 2. They have been worshipped by people of different appearances 3. Greeks can have more than one appearance 4. They are not real. " Then, you tell them "Then why don't you depict Chinese, Indian, Nigerian pantheons whoever you like today? These pantheons all have the above four conditions apply. (No. 4 depending on your beliefs)" And when you strip those first layers, they tell you the actual root cause: "But Chinese, Indian and Nigerian people are still oppressed. Plus, non-white people need to see themselves in media, so here is the chance!"
So, they admit that their only guide for how disrespectful they will be to one's heritage figures is actually the oppression status of that minority (just!) in the US. (Which shows they still don't give a shit about Greeks, cause otherwise they'd still know that Greeks still face bigotry in the US for how they look, how their names are, their customs) . To POC in the US: The moment your oppressors believe your oppression is gone, expect your pop culture to forget (again) all respect for your ancient gods and treat them like cool "new" products for their capitalist game.
And the above discussion paints the Greek culture and Greek figures as a culture-less empty slate, that can be made to represent every person in the whole world. It's US culture, even! But Greek culture is hideous actually, and the Greeks are racist brutes who get in our hair the whole time. Fuck the Greek people and their ancestors' depictions. Greek mythology is a product of no culture, actually, and we can treat the gods like self-inserts in our favorite fanfic. And this is totally not a colonialist mindset! Greeks are not robbed and genocided anymore, and we gave them "white" status in our country a few decades ago (but these ethnic hairy people are still not the same as us, obviously!), and the strings we pull to control Greece are not visible anymore to our own people, so we're good 😊
And, just to be clear: Greek gods are ethnically Greek, as every other [insert cultural descriptor] gods are from that certain culture. The Greek people consider themselves literal progeny of those gods. The first Greeks were born of the gods. Even today we call ourselves Hellenes because one of the first Greeks, the man Hellen, who was born of the gods. If the Greek gods don't express Greek cultural norms, and POVs, and ways of thinking about the world, and are not part of Greek history, what the hell are part of?? Cantonese culture? Do they represent Scandinavian ancient values perhaps....? Do they follow the philosophy of a First Nations tribe?? (This is more a matter of culture, not appearance since various people can be part of a culture. However, it needs to be said, because Westerners are willfully blind to common sense at this point.)
See this video from a Greek Canadian on Greek gods being ethnically Greek
To address one last thing: One person said "why didn't you say anything about how the gods were designed in the first game?" Well, I had made a post about it but some told me "noo they didn't change their race, they just have different colors like green, blue, pink, dark brown, and grey for an artistic touch". I was like "whatever, nobody knows, I have a life to live" so I deleted that post and didn't dwell too much on it. But the anti-colonialist message was the same as in this post, so that's another chance to highlight it.
