Me explaining to u guys why you should ship Byakusho

Do you like doomed yaoi? But you still want them to have a happy ending so you end up reading fanfics to cope?

Look no further, byakusho is for you. Doomed yaoi with an actual happy ending. Regardless of if you already like KHR and you don't particularly ship them, or you know absolutely nothing about this series, you should read it anyways. Also if you're wondering how they can be doomed yaoi and still have a happy ending, you should definitely read this

This segment is for people who do not know anything abt KHR so if you already know abt who Byakuran and Shoichi are, you can skip to the next bolded segment.

OKAY SO for those who do not know anything about Katekyo Hitman Reborn, it's basically like. About mafia and stuff. Also they all have different "dying will flame" types based on their personalities/affinities and stuff. Just think of them all as magical girls with guns okay don't worry too much about it they have magic and they're in the mafia

Let's go over their characters real quick.

Shoichi is first introduced in something similar to a filler episode, called "The Misfortune of Shoichi Irie" or something like that. Basically in the episode, he's delivered a package by the mafia for taking care of their kid, Lambo.

Lambo is another character (a kid from the mafia) Not under Shoichi's care, but they do meet briefly. Realizing that the package isn't supposed to go to him, he ventures to return it to Tsuna's (the main character of KHR) house, where he runs into a lot of odd and kind of gag-like funny typical shonen anime shenanigans. But this really freaks him out

He ultimately fails to return the package, and suffers from nightmares about the encounter.

Something to note though is that Lambo possesses a bazooka called the "10 yr bazooka" and if you shoot it at someone, it basically has the ability to switch you and your future self (10 years from now) for 5 minutes. This is extremely relevant.

The main characters of KHR are transported roughly 10 years into the future, and realize that they cannot return home even after 5 minutes. They then find out that there's this guy attempting world domination, and his name is Byakuran. Byakuran has access to knowledge of every parallel universe and timeline, allowing him to even consider world domination

Byakuran runs the Millefiore mafia family, and his right hand man is Shoichi. Long story short, they are introduced as the villain duo that the main characters must defeat

I'll go over some more stuff that ppl familiar with KHR probably already know, but it is necessary for my reasoning so please read through everything

First off, they are quite literally soulmates. Initially, Shoichi wanted to know what his future was like, hence he traveled back into the future twice after changing his actions. There, he meets Byakuran both times, accidentally causing Byakuran to realize his powers to gain access to knowledge from other worlds

However, because he runs into Byakuran in the future no matter where he travels or how he tries to change the future, it is basically implied that Byakuran and Shoichi are destined to meet in every timeline. Or in most at least

When Shoichi realizes this, he immediately devises a plan to take down Byakuran. His plan? Befriend Byakuran, gain his trust, and ruin all of his plans

Upon returning back to the past, he purposely erased his memories of the future, planning to have them return years later. You may be wondering how Shoichi is so confident that he could carry out the plan despite having no memory of Byakuran

Well this all really implies how confident he was that he and Byakuran’s fates were intertwined. Because how else could he be so sure that their paths would cross or Byakuran would show interest in him? Yeah. Anyways

They met in college and there is something you have to know here, and it's that they are so best friends to lovers guys they are in fact best friends

Shoichi, having no memories of Byakuran, somehow befriends him and becomes his best friend. Like, For Realsies...

When he regains his memories, he realizes much to his horror that his friend was about to game end the world, so he continues to persist with his plans despite now feeling completely awful about it

Fast forward, Shoichi is now Byakuran’s right hand man in the Millefiore family. It is important to note that Byakuran refers to Shoichi as "Sho-chan" and Shoichi refers to Byakuran as "Byakuran-san"

It may at first seem like Byakuran is being playful and Shoichi is polite, and while Shoichi does have a level of politeness, it's important to note that Shoichi and Byakuran use katakana to refer to each other when they use -chan and -san

This is in most cases actually considered rude when referring to one's superiors, and considering Byakuran is Shoichi's boss, it basically means he's okay with Shoichi referring to him rudely. Furthermore, the usage of katakana in this context just implies closeness

This information cannot be seen in the anime because you can't tell if someone is using katakana or hiragana just by listening to them speak, but it is very apparent in the manga that they are close. Also, all the other characters besides Shoichi refer to Byakuran as Byakuran-sama, so there's that too

Byakuran sent Shoichi a whole room's worth of white anemones, as most friends do

Shoichi finds this troublesome though because Byakuran is big on flower language and this means Byakuran has great expectations for him to succeed in his mission (of killing the main characters)

However it's later revealed that Shoichi had intended on betraying Byakuran, and Byakuran also reveals himself that he already knew about Shoichi's eventual betrayal, since Shoichi has always disapproved of his views

So if Byakuran already knew Shoichi was going to betray him, sending him a room of flowers meaning that he expects him to do well has no practical meaning to it besides from

1) he's just fucking with shoichi and 2) anemones explicitly mean love and passion so really he's just gay

No I'm so serious he's just gay. Like the Millefiore is made up of a bunch of squads right, and Byakuran is as mentioned above obsessed with flower language. Meaning he absolutely could not have not known what anemones generally mean outside of "anticipation/expectations"

But also each squad is named after a flower and Byakuran decided to explicitly assign Shoichi the rose squad. This man has done everything but kiss Shoichi on the lips like actually. All the fucking flowers in the world and you assign your best friend the rose ? And you send him a whole room full of flowers meaning love and passion? You gay bitch 😭😭

Anyways it has to be said that Byakuran besides being definitely not straight, is a really shit person. Like I have to say it he's awful, he's responsible for the death of thousands of people and he just casually destroyed a couple of worlds in search of more power. He views people like his toys and he admits to it

He is like a child in how everything is really just for his amusement, something for him to play with. He is even willing to sacrifice his closest allies for more power, he's just that type of guy </33 he just...does not have emotional attachments to other people

But with that said, he doesn't seem particularly hurt when it's revealed that Shoichi was not on his side anymore. However, when they play Choice, Shoichi is picked as a target and I refuse to believe that it is a coincidence and not Byakuran being petty because his best friend betrayed him💀

For those who do not know, Choice is a game that Byakuran and Shoichi made together in university, but now they're playing it irl. It's kind of like capture the flag, but the flag is one specific target, and in this case, the target for the main characters' team is Shoichi

Even when Shoichi was beaten and nearly died in Choice, Byakuran seemed unaffected by all of this and we are led to believe that he never really did care about Shoichi despite calling him his best friend

Shoichi, however, admits to the main characters that despite Byakuran being the way he was, back before he regained his memories of the future, the time he spent with Byakuran were "the best times of his life"

He genuinely enjoyed being around Byakuran and considered him his best friend despite knowing that Byakuran was going to do awful things, and he was determined to stop him. Despite it all

In Shoichi’s character song, we get a glimpse into his thoughts, and as it turns out, he really is in conflict with himself

Because in his heart, he wants to be with Byakuran, it's his place, but he chose to save the world instead, so that place is gone. He even says that he has to lie to his heart to do what he has to </33

In the song he also states that he doesn't want to break his memories and he wants to keep them safe, probably referring to the picture perfect time he spent with Byakuran before shit hit the fan. He continuously wills himself to not cry, to stop crying, because it's for the world

Girl I am crying for him. He cannot afford to act selfishly because choosing to be with Byakuran would make him the happiest and would simultaneously doom the world. But anyways

Clearly Shoichi holds Byakuran in high regard and loves him. Like not even just romantically, but in general he really does love Byakuran a lot

At the very end of the arc, the villain must be defeated though, and Byakuran is killed like straight up killed

Throughout the entire scene, Shoichi does not once show joy. He seems to accept the situation and is happy in a way that his plans have come to fruition, but his plans have always been "defeat Byakuran" rather than kill him. Shoichi had never planned to kill Byakuran, or at least explicitly said it, although I'm sure he knew that type of conclusion was inevitable

His reaction to Byakuran's death does stand out though, because every other character does seem to express joy at the victory, but Shoichi looks...blank. Perhaps shocked or in disbelief, but either ways his best friend was just killed right in front of him and he can't even be mad about it because this was the only way he could've been stopped

Shoichi is not aware of this, but before Byakuran dies, we finally get a glimpse into his thoughts as well

Byakuran admits in his last moments internally that although he did all of this because he wanted to create a perfect world, it wasn't as if he was completely dissatisfied with this one because there were also times where he felt "warm and fuzzy" as well. We then get a bunch of flashbacks in his dying moments of him and Shoichi together

BITCH???? AKDJAF 😭😭😭 only in his dying moments do we find out that Byakuran really did actually care about Shoichi and genuinely considered him his best friend because well. Context. It's his dying moments would he have dying moment flashbacks about someone he didn't care about

Like just moments of them chatting...Shoichi smiling at him... gay ass flashback if I've ever seen one 😭😭

Byakuran is someone who doesn't generally value people, he views them as toys and pawns. So the fact that he basically admitted that he did have a genuine connection with Shoichi is so :((((( this guy is just so out of tune with his emotions that he couldn't properly convey it in the end and Shoichi never actually knew about it

I say this but I feel like Shoichi did have a vague idea that Byakuran held him to some degree of high regard because. Well he was Byakuran's right hand man and they were friends for years prior to the whole mafia world domination thing

He's the only person that truly treats Byakuran like a human despite Byakuran trying to play god and everyone worshiping him. And despite being the only person that doesn't treat Byakuran like the god he wants to be, Byakuran still keeps him around

So clearly that means something but anyways that is the doomed yaoi. Byakuran is dead and Shoichi's plans succeed at the cost of his best friend's life, and he never found out in the end that his best friend probably did love him as much as he loved him. And that is where it ends

OR SO YOU THOUGHT HA

As mentioned this all takes place 10 years in the future

Meaning that the past version of Byakuran is still Alive. When the main characters return back to the past, there is a huge earthquake and everyone, including the past versions of Shoichi and Byakuran, are given memories of what they did in the future

Byakuran is taken to mafia prison bc sure it's 10 yrs in the past but like that guy is like a ticking time bomb 💀 doesn't matter though because somehow he's bailed out of jail.

Byakuran is a white boy btw :/ he lives in Italy and Shoichi is Japanese. Yes this is important because when they're in university, they meet abroad when Shoichi probably goes to Italy or something to study, but as it stands, currently Byakuran is in Italy and Shoichi is still in Japan

Byakuran is preparing to go to Japan with the people that helped to bail him out and the first thing he says is that he can't wait to meet his best friend Sho-chan😭😭😭

Thanks to the power of love and friendship, Byakuran is now no longer batshit insane and it's implied he now properly cares about his teammates btw. Anyways congrats to Byakuran for having human emotions I'm so happy for him

After returning to Japan, of course he goes to see Shoichi, and we don't know how it went exactly, but the next time Shoichi appears in the series, he tells the main character that Byakuran explained the situation to him and stuff, so it is implied that they are on good enough terms to speak abt stuff normally

Also Shoichi is kinda next to Byakuran the entire time 😔 and there is a segment where Shoichi literally shit talks Byakuran in his face which is so funny to me because it's BYAKURAN hes talking to and he just doesn't give a shit. But Byakuran pulls out the "best friend" card on him and throughout his entire speel, Shoichi never once denies that they're best friends ever

In the very last arc, Byakuran sustains extremely awful injuries and by extremely awful I mean intestines completely destroyed awful . Luckily somehow he gets around it (dont worry about it) and is chilling in the hospital and although it's a very small panel, you will see that Shoichi actually is there visiting him in the hospital

Remember how I said that everyone has magic powers and special dying will flames. Well Shoichi just happens to have the sun flame which makes him a healer so we can infer that he's also helping to heal Byakuran in the hospital along with visiting him

In this timeline they're able to retain their friendship and work towards a better future but anyways that's them my favorite doomed but not really doomed yaoi they are everything to me please ship them

thoughts on lunnelly trilogy?

so i'm currently reading Nobody Like Us and i'm not sure i'm liking it... i fear i've grown out of this series (i hope not bc they've been my favs for YEARS)

but i just feel like i'm getting tired of KBR's style/writing. the second-hand embarrassment scenes are just too much for me at this point.

unlucky like us spoilers ahead!!

maybe it's just the amnesia plot. i hate it so much. also was not into the kidnapping thing, this is not a freaking mafia romance. i also have to admit i don't like the alien stuff... *gun shots*

but i'm just 10% through NLU, i'll keep you guys updated.

Glad you asked. Short version: it's a Thai show that chronicles the epic highs and lows of the love story between the son of one of Bangkok's biggest criminal families and the bodyguard that's supposed to protect him. Here's a short trailer for your viewing pleasure so that it sets to the tone.

The long version? Oh boy 😏

Let me give you a rundown of all the characters:

Kinn: middle child and heir apparent to Theerapanyakul mafia family. Massive trust issues. Somewhat emotionally constipated. He loves Porsche very much but is an idiot about it. His ego is big as his tiddies, which are always on display for everyone's viewing pleasure. Obsessed with making gun jokes.

Porsche: bartended turned bodyguard for the Theerapanyakul family. Massive himbo, but we love him for it. Fiercely loyal. Has zero sense of self-preservation. Tends to get himself in sticky (HA!) situations after a few drinks. All around little shit, 10/10 would recommend.

Vegas: our resident little meowfioso. Objectively speaking he's is a garbage human being but that's alright because he's hot while doing it. He is Kinn's cousin and the family issues between him and Kinn is what (mostly) fuels Vegas rage. Tries to pursue Porsche with the same relentlessness of the squirrel in Ice Age who desperately wants that nut. And much like the squirrel, he fails spectacularly at it every time. Also, whips and chains do excite him. He relaxes by torturing people.

Pete: Porsche's bestie, also a bodyguard. Not going to spoil much but... Him and Vegas? More than meet the eye. He's a certified Freak™️. Everyone in the Theerapanyakul compound has seen his ass - including his boss. He's bit of an enigma tbh. Everyone in the fandom is cheering for him to get kidnapped and tortured. Whips and chains do excite him as well.

Kim: Kinn's lil bro. Affectionately known as Kimlock Holmes because he has an investigation/murder wall in his bedroom. He's not too involved with the main family but he is investigating the presence of a mole. When he is not investigating, he plays music, uses copious amounts of lip gloss (seriously, how are the man's lips always so hydrated and juicy????). Because of his investigation, he ends up crossing paths with Porsche's lil brother.

(Por)Chay: Porsche's lil bro. Absolute ray of sunshine. Cannot speak one bad word about him. He is so sweet that every time he's on screen I can feel my cavities growing. Has a crush the size of Texas on Kim.

Tankhun: eldest son of the Theerapanyakul fam. He's allegedly batshit cray cray but honestly? Smartest one of them all. Excellent fashion sense, I cannot emphasize enough how much I would love to raid his closet. Lover of tv dramas and certified fish dad.

There are many more characters but these are the main ones.

The series has some problematic moments (ex. dub con) so if that may be a trigger I'd suggest giving it a skip. It's such a fun series because everyone involved (aside from Chay I'd say) is on some level a terrible human being. They literally lie, kill, torture etc. as their daytime job lmao. The series has its fluffy moments, funny moments, (very) sexy moments and action packed moments. The cinematography alone is just... *chef's kiss*

You can legally watch KinnPorsche on Iqiyi - I think the first episode is available without a subscription here, at least you can gage if it's something that you may enjoy before committing :)

On Porsche’s Role in the Ending

It all just struck me that he was really out of place with everyone’s arcs and everything, but I don’t think it’s a bad choice to end it. I just don’t think it’s exactly what needed to happen for closure--which I’m not sure was the point, if my theory is correct. So some critical thots below the cut to get them out of my head (along with my juicy theory as to why it went down like this)! I love the show and will be rewatching and freaking out for days, just getting out what struck me as weird

Analysis:

We spent so much time at the beginning of the series talking about and showing how uncomfortable what the mafia did made Porsche. It was even shown much more recently in how Chay gave Porsche a very understandable ultimatum to leave this extremely dangerous world where they do things these brothers hate and the sole reason he wanted to stay was Kinn--there was very little issue in him leaving. He’s shown no change of heart in that view. And then he just has no issue taking up the role of the minor family? Which, as I understand it, the minor is in charge of a LOT of the dirty work Porsche specifically hates???

Porsche also hasn’t really earned that kind of respect. He has the bloodline, in theory, but he doesn’t exactly have the qualifications or training to do this. He was a pretty good bodyguard! He’s a fantastic boyfriend and brother! He’s got a lot of fantastic qualities, but mafia boss doesn’t really fit them imo. He can be a little (a lottle) dense, and has a tendency to go off on his own to figure things out. Which leads to a lot of fantastic drama, but doesn’t exactly inspire trust for such a serious position.

And (let me preface this by saying that I hated Vegas with a fiery passion until we started seeing his character arc and started going absolutely feral to the point I started writing fic--love him or hate him, he’s a super interesting character with a lot of facets) we just went through one hell of a journey with a fuckton of character growth with Vegas. He’s been trained to the point of abuse for this his whole life. If anyone has the guts and know-how to run the minor family, it’s him. Instead, he lost everything. To the point that his ending is almost a tragedy, only hanging on by a few threads, Why give him that entire arc just to leave him flat on his face??? (And I’m REALLY curious to see if and how Vegas would listen to Porsche the lovable himbo being in charge.)

But this all makes a LOT more sense if...

Fun Theory Time:

This may be stretching, don’t think I don’t know that lol. But the signs are all there.

I think Korn's behind it all. I think this ending was planned from the start.

Regardless of what happened with Chay and Porsche’s mother, I think both him and Gun screwed up (whether on purpose or not), and took advantage of the situation. They’re both lying through their teeth regardless of intention--as Korn ominously said, “History is only written by the victor”--and I don’t think either are innocent. Gun abused the hell out of his boys, I don’t doubt he took advantage of his sister’s situation to some degree. And Korn has proven to be a snake.

In all things, unlike Gun and even Kinn, Korm hides and sneaks and lies and steals. He’s mafia! It’s not exactly a groundbreaking observation. But the thorn in his side he couldn’t take care of was Gun and his fellow aggressors. If only there was an innocent, sometimes dense soul he could take under his wing and into the family fold that was easy to manipulate and could take over the minor family so he could get rid of Gun and his evil little minions once and for all. Oh, but there would be a huge upset if it weren’t a relative. Boo hoo.

Except...

He’s had Porsche and Chay tucked into his back pocket for years. Things are starting to hit a head. It’s time he made his move.

And made his move he did.

I still feel like it’s weird Porsche just accepted the position, but it’s not like he’s known to think things through. (Though poor Chay!!!) But it makes sense to unify the family, the entire show I was screaming at my screen how stupid the divide was. And what easier way than this?

And if this is what happened, no wonder it fells a bit unsatisfying as an ending. This is just the beginning of a new, darker conflict.

Okay, okay, done rambling into the void! Now to get a snack and hop into the tag for the memes and to be stabbed through the heart with feelings.

Kinnporsche ep 9

Because THIS TIME I decided NOT to TRUST the promotional photo, THIS TIME it turned out to be real. Story of my life *sigh*

IT SEEMS to me - or more - I HOPE, that this is all a plan made by Kinn and Porsche to get the information out of Tawan and Vegas who, being sure that Kinn and Porsche are "divorced" and fighting, will act bolder and say more than they would like. My assumption is based on: 1) there was no scene with Porsche confronting Kinn about his behavior towards Tawan, which would be logical after how they acted in ep 8, also Porsche is not a timid uke suffering in the corner and Kinn does not avoid “talking” 2) Kinn didn't confront Vegas at the pool, and recently in a similar scene he was threatening him with a gun and was very aggressive and now what, he just LEFT? Left his beloved with a guy who constantly makes a move on him? Um, no? Not Kinn? Not after their famous make up sex in the bathroom and not after ep 8? 3) Kinn asked his father to trust his decisions when discussing Porsche, 4) I think if Kinn felt REALLY betrayed by Porsche, then after their honeymoon shown in ep8, we would be dealing with a small nuclear blast at least. Same with Porsche, had he been rejected by Kinn after misunderstanding AGAIN, he would have reacted differently too (he literally had a breakdown last time, we had that beautifully-horrible scene in the bathroom, Porsche CRIED). I would just expect a bigger drama in such a situation, but there was practically nothing, 5) last time Kinn was betrayed, he shot that person, he and the rest of the mafia are shown killing the betrayers through the whole series, but now it’s just “lock him up”, coveniently next to Tawan, who immediatelly starts to show his true colors to Porsche? Vegas shows up? Hmmmmm... I've seen plots like this in movies and TV series when the two protagonists pretend to be fighting or pretend to be a prisoners to get information. Well, we'll see. I hope that's true, because after something like this it would be hard for me to imagine them restarting their relationship again. Besides, it would be the repetitive, fighting, reconciliation, fighting, reconciliation. How many times has it already been in this series? Is this how their relationship going to be?

The best character of this episode was, of course, Tankhun, who didn't say a single stupid word. I am also a bit surprised by the indulgent treatment of Tawan to get information from him. After all, this is a mafia, it seems to me that the standard threat to health or life would bring much better and quicker results, but maybe I’m oldfashioned :D Literally two episodes ago Vegas got the information this way and now they’re being nice to another traitor?

Pete had an interesting reaction to Vegas, to his touch. Pete is clearly disturbed by Vegas, and yet he had a strange reaction after the ceremony ended. Also it was a first time I got something from Pete, something that is not his “regular guy” act, something that is... new :) There were some glimpses before, sure, but this time it was something more solid :D

Anyway, Kinn, Porsche and Vegas in this episode were just beautiful. Angry, tense Kinn is just so hot, Porsche “smiling” to cover his anger is so hot, Vegas and his side profile is just so hot. Ah! Forgot about Pete - when he is freaking out around Vegas - also hot. I guess my fav look is them looking angry and tense lol

Today my Vegas thoughts are his relationship with death, which I can sort of relate to due to my weird upbringing. [cw: death and suicide]

My parents were very fatalistic about death right from when I was a toddler... it was to be expected at any time, and used as a comfort/dismissal for the worst of life's problems... Coming from a fun combo of living with terrorism and cult beliefs, really.

"not worth worrying about you could be dead tomorrow"

"shrug it off, they will be punished in the afterlife"

"won't it be great when we're all dead and together in a better place"

(look I'm not going to deny it has had... uh... an impact on me, these are not appropriate ways to deal with an upset child, but we're here for Vegas... focus!)

And my point is that I imagine growing up in the mafia is somewhat similar... Vegas must have seen friends and family and people he grew close with die all the time. It changes your perspective. Stops you getting too attached. Or strengthens your belief in the chance of justice in the next life. You become both more attached to this life, determined to live it up and feel things while you still can, and also less attached, the understanding that death is just around the corner embedded so deeply in your psyche that it doesn't feel scary as such, more like a friend who was always going to visit eventually. Other 'normal' people freaking out about death and dying just seem a little over emotional, honestly. It's just part of life.

And so I came to think maybe he has spent a lot of the series acknowledging and preparing for death.

Vegas knows he will probably die violently, it's just part of the family legacy. The tensions with the major family and the increasingly difficult missions he takes on to impress his father only make it more likely.

-He goes to the temple to prepare. He mentions the 'next life together' explicitly to Pete.

-He asks Porsche to kill him quickly if it comes to it.

-For some reason his father doesn't kill him and release him from the whole nightmare that is his continual failure, just keeps making life harder.

-He antagonises Kinn by going after Porsche, and keeps escalating that even when he knows how Kinn will react. Does he want Kinn to shoot him?

-He yells in frustration at Pete to shoot him.

Eventually he is so unhinged at how nothing in his life has worked out that he figures he may as well speed it up, and turns his gun on himself. He's ready to die, has been for a long time, and no matter what he does it keeps eluding him and he has to go on suffering.

and then Pete comes along and gives him a reason to stay...

i am. FRUSTRATED with this show. the potential was... it was. maybe it was even Big. for, like... anything! it could have been a hotsexy mafioso/bodyguard romance story! it could have been focused more on porsche’s family situation! it could have been a comedy! or a thriller! but i feel like it half-heartedly tried to sprinkle a bit of this, a bit of that, and ended up being... just a bunch of sprinkles. those sugary ones you put on ice cream/cupcakes. who wants to eat a whole bowl of that?

of course i did laugh at most of the jokes, i did aww at the endearing scenes, but it wasn’t really connected to my actual feelings about this series, because... yeah, as protagonists of a wacky comedy you forget about right after finishing it, they’re cool, but if i’m supposed to feel any real emotions about kinn and porsche as characters and a couple, it’s “annoying”. do they trust each other despite the cruel fate putting them on two sides of the conflict? well, no, not at all. are they just so, so drawn to each other’s bodies/personalities/Something? not that either, they barely knew each other before they fucked (porsche was mostly being an idiot for no fucking reason). they’re just a bunch of hastily collected tropes held together by a prayer and an old, crumbling piece of tape. for people that are supposed to love each other and lead a mafia family together, their lack of trust in each other is truly impressive. how many times are you going to see them talking to any other man and immediately go “oh is he cheating on me”? how many times are you going to point a gun at each other? jesus.

i’m not even going to talk about kim/chay because the hell was that.

so vegaspete... see i think this one had the most potential, and was the most interesting because of the unconventional relationship they had, but still i feel they were underdeveloped as fuck and the scenes they had together were... largely untied to any other scenes/reality. one of them is the eldest son of the minor family, the other is a bodyguard of the main family sworn to protect them -- they’re naturally on the opposite sides, and has either of them ever thought about that? even though the power struggle was looming rather strongly on the horizon? i don’t recall.

things like “a tortured hostage starts to sympathize with their captor”, “a tortured hostage struggles with the fact that he actually gets off to pain and being manhandled”, and “a sadist who’s always thought he was a freak and was kind of (?) resigned to the thought that he’ll never find anyone who truly loves all parts of him realizes that he’s actually found someone who likes being on the receiving end of whatever he does, and has shrimp emotions about it” are all very fun and interesting concepts, but the way they were handled was just... not good. i’m impressed and in love with what the fans have managed to squeeze out of all those scenes, but for me they felt... fragmented, incomplete. none of them felt actually satisfying to me -- instead of saying what needed to be said*, they just threw a bunch of rather flat lines and called it a day.

* for the scene to work, have meat and bits and stuff, not to get an a+ at therapy and Good Healthy Dynamics

honestly, a bunch of that felt like... you know when you’re writing a fic, and it’s emotion-heavy, but the characters don’t talk much despite feeling a whole fucking lot? the scenes felt a bit like a desperate attempt to film something like that. except i didn’t even feel that “oh shit, this one line...! i can FEEL that the character’s about to explode with all those emotions!”. it was mostly... “well, i guess this is happening, for some reason, and they made the journey from A to Z, Somehow”. and, yeah, for a ship where their whole Thing is kinky fuckery, where vegas’ “i thought i was a freak until now” and the pet-centered language is the business card of their relationship, having it resolved with “you’re not my pet, you’re my most important person!” was... weird. like. uh, from that scene at the pool i thought that was the whole Point, that the pet thing wasn’t just haha fun taunting but rather an aspect of their relationship Pete Himself has decided to lean into because it felt right for him? anyone here read the little prince? no? it’s just.... frustrated keysmash

so. yeah. i don’t know; maybe it’s actually a solid, good series, but i didn’t get emotionally into it, and so i can’t fill the gaps with love like i did with cql? but either way, it started out kinda fun, then with every episode it just got stupider and stupider until i couldn’t even enjoy what i went there for lol. idk. final shrug of frustration
