I don’t hate you (Emily x Reader)
This was requested by an anon so I can’t tag you, but I hope you like it. I got a bit carried away and reached 5k words.
Request: Can I request something with a shy reader who has a crush on Sonnett but she's intimidated by her extroverted personality so Emily thinks the reader doesn't really like her. Just lots of fluff and pining?
"Hey Y/n," Emily greeted flopping down on the chair next to me. As usual I froze. Just being near her was enough to make me clam up, seemingly losing all ability to speak or do anything really. Somehow I managed to wave slightly, never looking up from my sketch book. It's not that I didn't want to talk to her or be around her. Emily was very outgoing, very extroverted. She loves talking to people, going out and doing things where as I'm the complete opposite. Talking to people I don't know makes me incredibly nervous, I'm at my happiest at home with my sketch book or with a few close friends even then I'm a quiet person, I prefer listening over talking. The girls and I were close, it took a while for me to feel comfortable around them, but they had become like family. Emily was the only person I was never able to talk to properly outside of games. I would never admit it, but her extrovertedness intimidated me, made me freeze and run away at the same time. The massive crush I may or may not have had on her didn't help either.
Emily sighed, "Nice chat," She muttered before turning to talk to Lindsey. I watched her for a few seconds before I got up and left the room. I hated that no matter how hard I tried I couldn't talk to her or even look at her when she was looking at me.
I was stuck in my head again thinking about Emily. It wasn't uncommon, I thought about her a lot, but this was different. After walking out this morning, I had avoided everyone until lunch. Then before I could go into the meal room, I had overheard the conversation they were having. Emily was asking what she had done wrong, why I hated her, while the other girls were trying to reassure her that I probably didn't or that she should just straight up ask me. I felt horrible. I never wanted Emily to think I didn't like her, but I also didn't know how to stop freezing and actually talk to her. Hearing the conversation had made tears start to form. I wasn't a crier, but I just felt overwhelmed by everything I was feeling and that I was hurting Emily. Hurting her was the last thing I ever wanted to do.
That's how I ended up sitting on the floor of the hotel room, staring at the wall. I don't know how long I had been sitting there, my phone was somewhere in the room on silent so I could ignore everyone.
"Are you okay Y/n?" A voice asked, making me jump and whip around to the source.
Alyssa was standing next to me, concern evident, "I'm fine, why?"
"You left breakfast rather abruptly this morning, you missed lunch, now you are sitting on the floor staring into space."
I shrugged turning back to the wall, "I'm just thinking."
She sat down next to me, nudging my shoulder gently, "About Emily?"
"W-what? H-ow did-"
"You left breakfast after she talked to you. You always get super quiet around her, never look at her or talk to her. Did she do something that made you not like her?"
"Is that what everyone thinks? That I don't like her?"
"Well yeah. It's kind of the vibe you give off. Look, if she did something, it probably wasn't intentional. I'm sure if you just talked to her, you'd be able to work it out."
"It's not that, I-I d-don't, I l-lik-"
Alyssa put her hand on my arm, making me stop talking, "Hey, just take a breath. Whatever you tell me Y/n, I swear it'll stay in this room."
I took a deep breath, releasing it slowing to calm myself down. I debated if I should tell her or not. On one hand, I knew talking about it might help, but I was also scared of other people finding out. I had no doubt that Alyssa was someone that could be trusted if I just let myself. So I decided to just say fuck it.
"I like her, I do. It's just I can't talk to her. I try, believe me, but I physically cannot get the words out. Whenever she's around, I just freeze. I can't talk to her or even look at her if she's looking at me."
"You like her." I nodded, playing with my fingers. "By the sounds of it, you like her as more than a friend."
"Maybe."
"It's okay you know, to have feelings for her."
Tears welled up again, this time I pushed them away, I didn't want to cry in front of Alyssa, "I wished I didn't. Maybe I'd actually be able to talk to her, not make her think I hate her. I know she won't feel the same, but it would be nice to actually be friends with her."
"Is it just the crush that's stopping you? Is there something else about her?"
"Maybe, I don't know. She's kind of intimidating. She's so outgoing, so extroverted. The complete opposite to me. I've never been very good around people like that, then add the crush on top of it and I'm useless."
"I get it. Believe it or not Emily does have a quiet side. Maybe in times when she is more quiet, you could try talking to her, even a simple 'hi' to start with."
"I don't think I've ever seen her quiet."
"Try when she's alone or after a game, that's when she's most quiet."
"Thank you Alyssa."
---
We had just won the game. It was a very physical and everyone was exhausted. I knew there would be celebrations later, but right now we all just wanted to shower. Emily had ended up walking next to me in the tunnel. She wasn't talking or making jokes, it was weird to see her so quiet. I thought back to what Alyssa had said, about starting slowly. I took a breath and glanced at Emily quickly to find her already looking at me. We both looked away quickly.
"You uh played amazing today," I said quietly, making sure to avoid her gaze otherwise I knew I would freeze again.
"Thank you, so did you."
I managed to send her a small smile before quickly looking away again. We made it to the locker room where everyone went their own ways. Emily went to shower while I sat down next to Alyssa, taking off my cleats. Alyssa lifted her hand for a high-five, I was confused, but returned it anyway. She leaned closer to whisper, "It's a start."
---
Emily was dancing around the locker room with Rose and Mal to some random song. I couldn't help watching her. Despite her loudness, her goofiness and terrible jokes, she was absolutely beautiful. From her eyes, smile, freckles and laugh to her personality. The way she cares so deeply for the people she loves, always trying to cheer people up if they're down, her dedication to the team and the game. Everything about her was beautiful.
Emily looked back at me, making me look away quickly, cheeks heating up. When I looked back at her, I found she was already looking at me, a somewhat sad smile on her face. It was Emily that looked away this time. This seemed to become a pattern. I would look at her, then look away as fast as possible when she would glance at me, only to find her watching me when I looked back at her. Sometimes I managed to hold eye contact for a second, but not often.
"She's looking at you," Alyssa told me quietly. I glanced quickly to where Emily was to find her already looking at me. She looked away quickly, but I kept watching her, "You know she does that a lot."
"I know."
"Maybe she-"
"Bus is leaving in 5." Coach entered the locker room, cutting Alyssa off. I was kind of glad he did, I don't know if I wanted to hear what she was going to say. I was slightly worried, Alyssa was going to suggest that Emily knew about my feelings and that was not something I wanted to face right now. The music was turned off and everyone started to pack their stuff. Emily's locker was next to mine, I glanced at her to once again find her looking at me. She sent me a small smile which I actually managed to return before looking away. It was brief, but it was progress.
---
Emily sat down next to me on the floor, her shoulder just touching mine. I tensed slightly at the touch before relaxing. There was something about her touch that was warming, relaxing even despite my heart feeling like it was going to beat out of my chest. It had been a long day so we had decided on a movie night for team bonding. Emily must have been pretty tired or something because she was quiet again even when they were picking the movie. Normally, there would be fights between Emily, Rose, Kelley and a few of the other girls about the movie choice. Emily didn't join in this time, it made me briefly think that something was wrong. I wanted to ask, but knew it wasn't my place, I'm pretty sure Emily still thought I hated her. I hadn't said anything to her since after the game.
When they picked a horror I couldn't help tuck my legs against my chest, hiding my face in my knees. Horror movies were something I couldn't do at all, they freaked me out more than I had ever admitted to anyone. There was no way for me to watch them without getting nightmares for days.
"Hey, let's pick a different movie. I'm not in the mood for a horror tonight," Emily spoke up, discreetly placing her hand on my back. Some of the girls groaned, but agreed and settled on a romance instead.
I leaned into her a bit so I could whisper without anyone hearing, "Thank you."
"Of course, are you okay?"
"Not a fan of horrors."
As the movie went on, I found myself leaning closer to Emily until eventually my head was leaning on her shoulder. Her head rested on top of mine, neither of us acknowledged the position we were in. There was a disappointment I couldn't push away as I watched the movie, as I watched the couple dance around the kitchen cooking dinner, going on dates and just having normal conversations. It was what I wanted with Emily, even as little as being able to have a proper conversation with her would be enough. "I don't hate you." I whispered before I could stop myself. Emily didn't say anything, but the light squeeze of my arm told me she heard it.
---
"Hey Y/n, come for a walk with me?" Emily asked quietly as we were leaving the meal room. I didn't say anything, but after a moment of hesitation followed her. If I wanted to be able to be friends with her, then I needed to push past the things that made me uncomfortable and unable to interact with her.
We walked down the street in silence, though despite everything it was comfortable. The last couple of weeks I had seen the more calm and quiet side of Emily, the side of her I seemed to be more comfortable with for the time being. Over time I hoped to become more comfortable with the extroverted side of her. "You say you don't hate me, why don't you talk to me?"
After a couple of minutes without replying, Emily spoke up again, "You don't have to tell me, I know there's a reason, there has to be, but if you're not ready then I understand."
"I um, I don't um do well with e-e-extrovertedness."
"I'm not the only extrovert on the team."
I couldn't tell her the real reason. I thought about just doing it, but I physically couldn't. So I went with telling a small lie instead. It didn't feel good. Emily was being so understanding, so patient and I couldn't even be honest about not being ready to tell her. "I know. I-I don't know why you're the one I can't talk to properly."
"That's okay Y/n, I'm just glad you're actually talking to me at all. It sucked thinking you hated me and not knowing why."
"I'm sorry. I am working on it. It uh helps when you're calmer."
"Yeah, I'm starting to get that. Look, if you're trying then I'll try harder. Maybe we can hang out more, I won't be so-"
A small, teasing smile made it's way onto my face, "Crazy?"
Emily snorted, nudging my shoulder, "Something like that."
---
"So you and Emily went for a walk? By yourselves? Did you talk?"
"Um yeah, we talked a little bit. I told her at the movie night that I didn't hate her and she asked today why I don't talk to her if I don't hate her." I filled her in on the rest of what we talked about, about wanting to tell her what I felt, but not being able to.
"You're making great progress Y/n, sure it's slow, but it's something. Maybe one day you'll be able to tell her how you feel."
"Honestly, Alyssa I don't see the point in telling her, she won't feel the same way. I'm happy just being friends with her."
"Y/n, she stares at you all the time. Either you are really interesting, have something on your face all the time or she likes you."
I laughed quietly at her face comment before sighing, "I doubt it. Up until like yesterday Emily thought I hated her, there's no way she likes me."
"Just, don't completely throw out the possibility of her liking you back."
My phone buzzed, a smile appearing when I saw Emily's name. Alyssa raised her eyebrow at me, but I ignored her to read Emily's text.
Emily: Hey, since you have trouble talking to me in person I thought maybe we could try texting?
Y/n: I think that might be okay
"Emily I take it?"
"She decided texting would be the way to go since I can't talk to her."
---
It had been a few days since Emily first texted me. Since then we had been texting pretty much every chance we got even when we were in the same room. We talked about a lot of different things, from our childhoods, dreams and random things like what happened that day. The more I got to know her, the more I seemed to fall for her and the more I disliked myself for not being able to talk to her properly. I had been able to talk to her a few more times in person, they weren't long conversations, but it was something. I was able to text her when she was being hyperactive, but I still couldn't talk to her. It was late, Alyssa was asleep and it was an off day tomorrow so Emily and I were still texting.
Y/n: I saw a bird dive at a kid today, is it bad that I laughed so hard at it?
Emily: Maybe, but honestly I laughed hard just thinking about it. I got to pat an adorable puppy today.
Y/n: You know that's kind of what you remind me of
Emily: A puppy? I'm not sure if that's a good thing....
Y/n: I don't mean it in a bad way. You're just always overly excited, love attention, cute and love sleep.
Emily: Did you call me cute?
Y/n: Maybe...
Emily: Do you think you can tell me now why you can't talk to me?
Emily: You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but I know you weren't telling me the truth when you said you didn't know why. I could tell by the look on your face.
I had gotten bold and look where that got me. What if she knew that I liked her? I didn't know what to do, I could just do it now and get it over with. I mean if she knew then it wouldn't matter when she found out. I would likely lose her anyway. It would avoid more heartbreak then necessary. Before I could overthink it I wrote the text and sent it then froze with fear as I realised what I had done.
Y/n: I like you Em, more than friends.
With each passing second I started panicking more, everything that she could be thinking running through my head. Also, wondering what the heck I was thinking by telling her over text about my feelings. Emily deserved to be told in person, not in a bloody text, but I didn't even have the guts to do that. Hell, I could still barely talk to her in person, yet I had just confessed to liking her.
Emily: Can you meet me in the hallway?
After a minute of debating, I decided to just face whatever was coming. I slowly snuck out of the room to find Emily standing outside the door. Before I could say anything she cupped my cheeks and connected our lips. Of course I froze. Emily pulled back, thumb stroking my cheek. I lent into her touch, eyes closed to avoid looking at her.
"Hey, don't freak out, don't overthink. It's okay, I've got you. I promise you I feel the same Y/n."
I nodded as Emily pulled me into her arms, "I've got you."
After a minute or so Emily pulled away to cup my cheek again, I nodded, leaning in slightly. Emily closed the rest, our lips connecting again. This time I relaxed into her, enjoying the way her lips felt against mine. The softness of her hand on my cheek, the gentleness of her touch, the small smile on her lips as she pulled away. I looked at her, my own smile forming. Out of everything I had imagined would happen, this was the last one I expected to actually happen. I still wasn't sure that this wasn't a dream.
Emily chuckled, "I think this is the longest you've ever looked at me."
"Well, longest with you looking back. That sounds creepy, um I-"
"Don't worry, I was doing the same thing. I'm sorry for kissing you straight away, it know it was out of no where, but I saw your expression and knew you were freaking out."
"I'm glad you did Em, I was completely freaking out. Look um I don't know how I'll be around you when you're hyperactive, I'm not someone who talks to random people or likes to hang out with lots of people."
She stroked my cheek softly before placing a quick peck to my lips, "I know. I get that Y/n, really I do. I don't expect you to be the same as me, I like you the way you are. We'll work this out together."
---
Emily and I were sitting on the floor in a secluded corner of the hotel floor. I was leaning against her, head resting on her shoulder with her arm around me, "You're comfy."
Emily laughed, pressing a kiss to my head, "I'm glad. We can't stay here all night though."
"I know, you could come stay with me," I mumbled quietly. Now she was cuddled up with me, I didn't want it to end. She was warm and made me feel safe. It was everything I wanted since I met her.
"You have a roommate."
"Alyssa knows about my feelings for you, she's the one who convinced me to try harder with talking to you."
"Guess I should be thanking her then. I love that you're talking to me now, all it took was a kiss," She laughed, holding me a bit closer, "I can come cuddle for a bit, but I'll need to get back before Lindsey wakes up."
"You uh don't have to if you don't want to. I was mostly kidding."
Emily tucked a piece of hair behind my ear, "Trust me, there's nothing else I want."
We snuck back into the room being careful not to wake Alyssa. I place a few kisses kisses to Emily's lips before cuddling into her, a huge smile present. Who would have thought a second of boldness would end up with this happening? I still found it a bit hard to believe that Emily liked me considering I hardly ever talked to her, but I decided to push that away and just enjoy being with her. I must have fallen asleep because when I was woken up by Alyssa moving around the room. Emily was gone, but that was to be expected. I checked my phone to find a text from her.
Emily: Good morning beautiful, I hope you slept well ❤️ I snuck back to my room. You looked so peaceful and I didn't want to wake you. I'm going to sleep a little longer, but do you want to get brunch with me this morning?
Y/n: Good morning Em, I slept amazing (think you had something to do with that) I'd love to get brunch with you. Text me when you wake up :)
"So Emily stayed over last night," Alyssa stated nonchalantly making me look up.
"Uh yeah. I don't want to say you were right, but she knows how I feel and we may have kissed."
"No fucking way, you told her? Y/n, I'm so happy for you."
"I may have told her over text."
"Hey, that's better than nothing I suppose."
---
"You ready?" I asked walking up to Emily who was waiting in the lobby.
"Let's go." As we walked Emily was going on excitedly about some show her and Lindsey had watched. I wasn't really listening, more so enjoying listening to her talk. This was the first step in getting used to her hyperactive and overly excited side. "You okay babe?"
"I'm fine, why?"
"You just seem quiet."
I chuckled, "I'm always quiet."
Emily rolled her eyes, nudging my shoulder, "Well yeah, but you just seem quieter. Am I being too loud? Talking too much? I can stop."
I stopped, turning to face her. I never wanted Emily to think she was too much. Sure, it was an adjustment since I had never dated an extrovert, but I would get there. I mean I could handle being around extroverts everyday with the team so it would be fine dating her, "No, please don't think or worry about that Em. I don't want you to change who you are because of me, I like who you are. I've always been a listener more than a talker, I like listening to you talk. Now, let's go eat, I'm starving."
Emily was looking at me with a dopey smile which made me feel a little bit self conscious, "What?"
"Nothing, I'm just happy. Happy that we're here, happy that we're together and you're talking to me."
"Can I ask you something? How do you like me when you thought I hated you?"
"At first I just thought you were beautiful, then you started being more comfortable around the team and started showing who you were. Even though you didn't talk to me, I could see how kind you were, how much you cared about everyone, how funny you were. Then when we started texting and I got to know you more, I knew I was screwed. I didn't need to talk to you, to like you." I reached over to take her hand. It made me feel better hearing her say why she liked me. It was one of those things that I had been overthinking since we got together.
---
Emily came skipping up to me, holding her hand out, "Dance with me."
"W-what?"
She knelt down in front of me, lacing her fingers with mine, "You don't have to, but I would really like it if you would. I even played a slower song."
I took a deep breath before standing up, my free hand going to her hip, "I'm leading."
Emily laughed, her free arm wrapping around my shoulder. Everyone else was dancing all over the place while Emily and I danced slowly. I was nervous, this wasn't something I did, especially not in a locker room filled with people. Emily made me feel safe though, safe enough to speed up our dancing a bit until we were dancing more like the rest of the girls. Our hands never disconnected as we danced. I admit that I was having at least a little bit of fun. Eventually it was time to shower so I squeezed her hand and left. After my shower, I stopped by the door when I overheard yet another conversation.
"Are we missing something?" What sounded like Kelley asked.
"Yeah, when did you and Y/n get close? I thought Y/n hated you Emily?" Lindsey added. I was interested to see what Emily was say about it. Would she tell them about our relationship or some other excuse. I'm not sure what I wanted her to tell them, was I ready for everyone to know? Was Emily ready for them to know?
"She never hated me, it was just a misunderstanding. We talked it out. I just need to be a little less crazy around her sometimes." I guess she wasn't ready to tell them yet. I decided it was time to come back out. Emily sent me a smile which I returned with a small one of my own.
Emily dropped back beside me as we walked to the bus, nudging my shoulder with hers, "You heard that?"
"I did. You didn't tell them about us. Which is okay by the way, we can wait until you're ready."
"It's not that Y/n. I just didn't know how you feel about them knowing yet. Thought we should talk about it first."
Our fingers intertwined discreetly between us, "I'm not opposed to it Em, it's just a bit scary."
"What's scary about it?"
"You know the girls. They'll get excited, they'll have so many questions."
"They'll bombard us, that's the part that scares you?" I nodded, "I'll always be by your side Y/n, if they get to much then I'll tell them to back off."
"I know you will. I'm ready if you are." I pulled Emily closer, letting her close the gap between us if she was ready. She smiled, connecting our lips in a quick kiss. We pulled away to find no one, but Alyssa had even noticed, all caught up in the conversations they were having. "I was sure that would work."
Emily smirked, "Let's have some fun, see how long it takes them to notice."
It took about 3 days until everyone finally noticed and we weren't being subtle about it. We would hold hands, cuddle, leave kisses on each others cheeks, even the occasional peck on the lips. A few of the girls such as Ali, Ash and Alex had noticed quite quickly, but had played along, even making bets on how long it would take. I was right, we were bombarded with questions as soon as everyone noticed. I managed to handle most of them, but Emily cut them off when I started to play with her fingers and bouncing my knee. There was still the occasional question, though it settled down pretty quickly.
The day they found out about us, I went back to my room to find Alyssa packing her bags. "What are you doing?"
"We're swapping rooms. I'll be rooming with Lindsey, Emily will move over here."
"Thank you Lys."
"Don't get used to it, but given how you two were before the other night, I think it will help you two start your relationship properly, so you can get more comfortable with her. I'm so proud of how far you've come Y/n."
"Things changed when she kissed me. Its still hard sometimes, there's a lot I need to work on, but I feel safe with her."
Emily knocked on the door, leaving a quick kiss on my lips before turning to Alyssa and thanking her. Alyssa pulled her into a hug. She probably didn't mean for me to hear what she whispered, but I did, "You hurt her and I will hurt you worse, understand?"
Emily nodded frantically, pulling away and standing next to me. Alyssa smiled, pulling me into a quick hug, "Have fun, see you at dinner."
Once Alyssa had left, I burst out laughing making Emily pout, "You looked terrified."
"You're mean. Alyssa is scary."
I pulled her in, connecting our lips in a lingering kiss, "Sorry Em."
Her arms crossed over her chest, pout returning, "Nope, apology not accepted."
I connected our lips in a slightly longer kiss this time, tongue running along her lips as I pulled away, "What about now?"
"Almost."
I smirked, connecting our lips again while guiding her back until she fell back on the bed. I straddled her waist, tongue slipping into her mouth. She let out a quiet moan which I think just became my second favourite sound after her laugh. I pulled away, leaving a few kisses in her neck, "Am I forgiven now?"
"Y-yes." Emily went to flip us over, but I wouldn't let her. I laced our fingers together, pinning them above her head. I may be shy and introverted, but I was not one to be told what to do.
"Nuh uh," I whispered, leaning down to connect our lips again. My hands slipped under her shirt, running along her stomach. Emily pulled away, stopping my hands.
"Y-Y/n, I-I can't, I-I'm not-"
"Shh it's okay, we don't have to go past this yet if you're not ready."
Her hands slipped under my shirt, tracing small circles, "It's not that, believe me. I got my period this morning so we have to wait."
"That's okay baby. Let me know if I can do anything. Let's watch a movie and cuddle."
Emily kissed me again before I moved off her to sit against the headboard. She lay with her head in my lap as I ran my fingers through her hair. Emily picked a random movie, I didn't really care, I was just content being with her. Things had changed so quickly, it was still scary, but I was happy.

Glad You Came (Julie x Reader)
Tumblr media
Request: Julie x reader where reader is kind of the fuckgirl of the team. Reader knows that julie have feelings for her and like her attention. Julie thinks that reader plays with her feelings. But reader actually like julie and try to get her trust back. End with fluff please.
Author’s Note: Idk if this actually fits the prompt, but I just couldn’t get the image out of my head. I hope you all enjoy.
Jj had always been a sucker for a good Rom-Com. The ones where the good girl fell for the bad boy (with a good heart) and that bad boy stepped up to the plate and got his shit together for her.
But alas, though you were the team’s resident bad girl, this wasn’t a rom-com and it appeared you had zero intention of making a dent in your precious reputation. At least that’s what she thought.
You always did have a knack for proving people wrong.
*****
The bouquet of roses was the first thing everyone noticed when they stepped into the locker room. It was an amazing surprise after such a rough practice. A not entirely unexpected, but still incredible surprise.
JJ blushed as she approached her overflowing locker. This secret admirer stuff was getting a bit out of hand.
“Why does Julie get roses, but none of the rest of us do?” Emily whined, settling down in front of her own bare cubby.
Lindsey rolled her eyes. If JJ was going to keep getting gifts from a random person, she and the rest of the girls with significant others on the team were really going to have to step up their game.
“You don’t like dead flowers Sonnett,” She called to the blond 3 lockers over.
“Yeah, but it’s not fair if she gets them and the rest of us don’t,” Emily sighed dramatically, and the rest of the room giggled.
“It's from her admirer,” Kelley chimed in, wiggling her eyebrows suggestively.
JJ’s blush deepened. She carefully reached out and grabbed the thornless Rose with a little tag on it, bringing the delicate petals to her nose before examining the little handwritten note.
“Ooo, what’s the note say this time?” Kelley asked, as half the team crowded around the midfielder.
Julie took a big deep breath before reading the black cursive words out loud.
“I wanted to get you something as beautiful as you are, but couldn’t find anything that came close,”
“Awww,” the team cooed, some rubbing Julie’s back and others ruffling her hair as they made their way back to their respective areas.
She ran her fingers over the little words, trying to imagine the face of the person who could have written them. The person who would go to such lengths to show their interest in her. But the gifts were always sweet and never creepy.
The gifts ranged from coffee orders sent to her hotel room, to a signed Mia Hamm jersey that had shown up in her locker, but the thing that always remained was the smooth black cursive notes that accompanied them.
She brushed the soft petals against her nose again. How she longed to know who thought so highly of her.
“Who could get roses in here?” Sam snorted, pulling her boots off.
“It’s gotta be a teammate. They show up literally everywhere we go,” Rose said thoughtfully, glancing around at all the women in the room, her eyes lingering on where you were grinning down at your phone.
There was just something about your smile and the way you kept glancing up at a certain blond midfielder.
“At least we know it’s not Y/n,” Emily cackled.
You looked up at the group from your place across the room, where they all thought you were trying to ignore the commotion (probably in favor of texting a random girl for a hookup).
You had the reputation of being the fuckgirl of the team. And you took pride in that. You liked when women gave you attention, and as long as everything was consensual, you didn’t see the harm in messing around. That didn’t mean you treated women like objects. Quite the opposite. You loved to woo them, to make them feel beautiful, and then move on to the next conquest.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“With a body count as high as yours, I doubt you’re capable of being this romantic,” Julie spat back, glaring at you. Your history with her was far from perfect, and she had found out about your reputation first hand.
You smirked. If you couldn’t positively have her attention (the way you wanted but were too afraid to admit), then you would take the hostility any day. Angry Julie was still sexy after all.
“How do you think I get them into my bed? Maybe I’m a secret mush at heart,” You asked, standing and approaching the woman. Your hands gently brushed over her shoulder and you began to lean in close to her.
She brought her finger up to push against your nose, stopping you in your tracks. You tried and failed to cover your smile at the touch.
“Yeah right,” She scoffed, shoving you back.
Your smile widened, as you stepped back, your arms wide. “You never know till you try it, Jules,”
“Been there, done that. No thanks,” She shook her head and turned away from you. “At least I have enough class not to fuck anything with a pulse”
Rose tilted her head to the side at the brief look of sadness that crossed your features. Her eyebrows furrowed at the look, and how quickly it was gone.
****
You picked at the tape around your wrist- a habit that started in middle school after an unfortunate event that required stitches and had become one of your many signatures within the team. The pressure around the area was calming now, and always put you in the right mode of a game.
It also gave you something to absentmindedly play with as you waited for the next set of drills on the bench (totally not checking out a certain blond when she wasn’t looking).
“When are you going to tell her that you’re her admirer?” Rose said, settling down on the bench beside you.
You shrugged. “First, I have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.”  You glanced up at the bling again, before blinking back to Rose’s raised eyebrow.
You took a deep breath, finally managing to get a finger under the tape.
“And second never. I’m defective remember? Completely incapable of love,”
You repeated the words JJ had said to you that fateful night. The night you had ruined the best almost relationship you ever had. It wasn’t you exactly, just the fact that a woman was texting you while you were in bed with Julie. You weren’t going to respond, but the blond midfielder had caught sight of the screen before you could clear the notification.
That was enough proof for her. She kicked you out and didn’t let you explain- there was nothing to say apparently.
“That’s why you always send her flowers and notes, and other gooey stuff right?” Rose rolled her eyes.
She had known you since the two of you were in diapers. She knew all about your hang-ups on relationships, but she also knew the secret romantic side. The sweet side that you didn’t show to everyone. Everyone except a blond midfielder (who was still very smitten with you, even if you didn’t want to believe it).
“I-,” You paused, biting your lip, your eyes getting that faraway look Rose knew all too well. You shook your head. You had your shot and it had blown up in your face. “She doesn’t want me. It’s just easier this way,”
“What, to hopelessly pine after someone? Or to completely avoid rejection all together?” Rose snorted.
You shook your head again, finally looking rose in the eyes. “I hurt her Rose. She doesn’t want someone she can’t trust,”
Rose softened at the admission and the unspoken “I’m not good enough” that went with it. You had always struggled with that, maybe that’s why you were such a lady killer. You so badly wanted to be enough, that you jumped at every opportunity. But it was different after you met JJ.
“How many people have you slept with within the last 3 months?” Rose asked suddenly.
And you blinked at her a few times, completely unsure of where your best friend was going with this.
“What?”
Rose rolled her eyes. “If you can’t think of an exact number, ballpark it for me,”
You vehemently shook your head. You hadn’t met a hookup since that night, too hung up on JJ, and afraid that continuing would destroy any remaining chance you had with the woman.
“I haven’t,”
Rose snapped, patting your shoulder. “Exactly. You’re proving to her, the entire team really, that you can change. She’ll come around, especially if you’re honest with her and I don’t know, try to keep it in your pants for once,”
The team had taken notice of your change, how you hadn’t engaged in hookups. Only a few of them knew the real reason behind your apparent abstinence.
“You think?” You asked softly, and Rose sent you an indulgent smile.
“Yeah, you just gotta grow a pair and tell her you’ve been her secret admirer for the last 6 months,” She finished with a cackle and you blushed.
That was easier said than done.
*****
Julie had never been this impressed in her entire life. Sure she had been to some amazing restaurants before, but nothing like the little place her admirer had chosen. She felt every bit of hesitance leave her as she stepped into the building. It was quaint and romantic with an amazing buzz in the air.
She had found the handwritten note with the time and place on the floor outside her hotel room door, along with one of the cutest black dresses she had ever seen. It fit her perfectly, and she looked good if she did say so herself.
She approached the hostess stand, and the man behind the counter smiled at her. “Good evening miss, how may we assist you?”
She smiled back at him. “Um, I have a reservation. It’s under Mystique,” she said, suppressing a grin at the name her admirer had chosen.
The man’s smile widened as he reached into his suit jacket pocket, and retrieved a neatly folded letter. “Ah, yes. I have this for you,”
JJ to the heavy paper in her hands, running her fingers over her name written in familiar black cursive reverently. Her admirer rarely ever wrote her name out.
She very carefully unfolded the note, revealing more of her favorite handwriting.
Julie,
First and foremost, I’m so glad you could make it. I know I’ve written this beforehand, but I must say I’m sure you look amazing. You always look amazing. It doesn’t matter if it’s during practice, or during one of our very chill team bonding nights. You never fail to take my breath away, but that’s not why it’s taken me so long to finally grow a pair and come clean.
I know that you and I have history and that I’m not your ideal significant other, but I promise you’re not just another person to add to my long list. You make me feel things I’ve never really felt before, and that scares me. I don’t know how to do this, and I can’t promise I’ll be perfect, but I can promise that I’ll try my best. I will do everything I can to show you how much I love you, and to be someone worthy of your love in return.
Now comes the hard part. If you want to give me the chance to show you that I’ve grown up and am ready for a serious relationship, just tell the matroids you would like to take a drink at the bar. or If you don’t want to see me, but want to eat, just tell him you’re ready for your table. Your meal will be paid for, and I’ll leave you alone. We can even pretend it never happened if you would prefer. Or if you want neither of those things, you can walk away.
The choice is yours J. Ill respect whatever you choose, and no hard feelings either way.
Truly yours,
Y/n
Julie stared down at the letter, completely stunned, almost unable to believe that you could ever do anything this remotely romantic. A small part of her cheered as if she was waiting for you to finally step up.
She didn’t hate you, contrary to popular belief. She just thought you were incredibly confusing. You would flaunt your reputation, but then you would be sweet and shy with her. In the end, your first try at a relationship didn’t work because she was tired of you jerking her around. But this was a side to you she had never seen. One that intrigued her to no end.
“Have you made your decision ma’am?” The maitre d’ asked kindly, sliding up beside her. She blinked up from the neat handwriting towards the man (who looked like he wanted to say more).
She nodded at the man. “I have. I’d like to have a drink at the bar please,”
his smile was blinding as he gestured to the left with his arm. “Right this way,”
*****
You carefully swirled your finger around the rim of your drink, staring listlessly into the amber liquid. You weren’t quite sure how long you had been sitting here, but with every passing second, you couldn’t help but think about how much of a terrible idea this was.
She was never going to choose to come sit with you at the bar, and the longer you waited, the more pathetic you would look in the end.
You almost felt bad for the staff. They were so excited to help, so enthusiastic about helping you get the girl of your dreams. You were sure you were going to disappoint them.
“Fancy meeting you here stranger,” Her voice cut through your internal monologue. You lifted your head to meet her blue eyes, and the sight alone took your breath away.
“JJ, you came,” You said breathlessly, standing to greet the woman.
“I did,” She nodded, blushing when you took her hand and kissed the back of it before pulling out a chair for her. You sat down next to her, flagging down the bartender for the woman.
“You look stunning,” You said softly, finally turning in her direction, and she caught the light shade of pink that tinted your cheeks.
“So you’ve said,” Julie laughed, holding up the letter. The red in your cheeks spread up to your ears and down your neck as you ducked your head in embarrassment.
“Megan may have helped me pick it out…” You mumbled, your fingers returning to your glass.
Rose may or may not have gotten the entire team involved when she finally convinced you to make your move. While you were relieved to have help picking out the perfect outfit, you hadn’t enjoyed being made fun of for your “questionable” fashion sense.
“Was she behind the other gifts too?” Julie asked, taking a sip of her drink with a raised eyebrow.
You shook your head, rubbing the back of your neck. “No. Those were all me,”
Julie smiled softly, reaching up to intertwine your fingers. She wasn’t used to seeing you so shy. It was kinda adorable.
“Well, I loved them,”
You nodded again, taking a big gulp of your drink, trying to calm your racing heart. “I’m really glad you came. I was afraid you would find out it was me and change your mind,”
“I’m glad I came too,”
You smiled brilliantly at the woman. You hadn’t completely redeemed yourself yet, not like Zuko or Snape, but at least you were going to have the chance to try. You weren’t going to let her slip through your fingers again.

Miss Americana And The Heartbreak Prince (Julie Johnston x Reader)
Tumblr media
Anonymous Request: Julie Johnston imagine based off Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince by Taylor Swift?
I HAD TO RESPOST BECAUSE WASN’T APPEARING IN THE TAGS AGAINNNN!
You couldn’t believe you were here, the finals of the NWSL, and against the Chicago Red Stars nonetheless, your best friend, Julie Johnston’s team.
“Thinking about Julie.” Tobin asks with a wink and you roll your eyes.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
Lindsey scoffs loudly, she and Sonnett popping up over the back of your seat.
“As if.” Lindsey rolls her eyes.
“You’re totally into her Y/N, anyone with eyes can see that.” Emily grins and you swallow hard, shaking your head.
“I am not.”
                                                           ***
The Chicago Red Stars buss is much of the same, though instead of you getting teased, it’s Julie.
“You’re totally into her, just admit it.” Morgan ruffles Julie’s hair and the woman grumbles, swatting at her hand.
“I am not.”
Tierna turns around to look at the blonde, Alyssa giving her a narrowed eyed look accompanied by a smirk.
“I’m serious you guys! I’m not into her.” Julie growls.
Morgan, Alyssa and Tierna share a glance, their eyes narrowed.
“Sure JJ.”
“Whatever you say Johnston.”
Alyssa gives her a nudge and the blonde’s cheeks flush.
“I know Y/N has a bit of a... Reputation.” Morgan winces and Julie slowly nods, glancing down at her lap.
“She promised me she’d stop doing it... Yes, she gets around but I still lo-
Julie’s eyes widen, stopping mid-sentence.
“What was that?” Alyssa grins and Julie shakes her head, clearing her throat.
“Nothing.”
                                                           ***
A wide grin stretches across your face as Julie throws her arms around your neck, pulling you close, burying her face in your chest.
“I’ve missed you.” She mumbles against your chest and you duck down, kissing the top if her head.
“I’ve missed you too.”
You take a deep breath, nuzzling against the top of her head.
The two of you are so wrapped up in one another you don’t see your USWNT teammates standing around.
“Did they forget us?” Tobin mumbles and Alyssa nods.
“Yeah, they totally forgot.”
The two of you eventually part, though your eyes remain on one another, Y/E/C orbs locked with Julie’s shining blues.
“WHAT ARE WE!? CHOPPED LIVER!?”
The two of you spring apart, turning to Emily, the woman grinning innocently as she waves at the two you.
“Why yes Julie! We’re here too!” Emily throws her arms in the air dramatically.
Lindsey slaps the defender hard on the ass, causing her to yelp.
“Way to ruin the moment.” She mumbles through her teeth before moving to hug Julie, the blonde giving her a tight squeeze.
You glance over your shoulder at Julie, smiling when Tobin and Emily decide to join in on the hug.
“You’re not getting off the hook.”
You turn around, eyes wide when Alyssa wraps her arms around you, pulling you against her chest, Morgan and Tierna joining in on the group hug.
Meanwhile, in the other group hug, Julie whispers.
“Is Y/N keeping it in her pants?” She asks and Tobin snorts.
“You asked her to?”
Julie’s cheeks flush as she pulls back.
“Well, yeah... Maybe.” She shrugs and Emily grins, sharing a glance with Lindsey.
“Well then of course, she’d do just about anything for you.”
Julie glances over her shoulder, smiling when you turn around at practically the same time, your eyes locking.
“Just because we’re friends now doesn’t mean we will be on the field.” You grin cockily and Julie rolls her eyes.
“Better crush her now Lys while you’ve got her.” She puts her hands on her hips a brow arched.
Your eyes double in size as you turn to face Alyssa, the woman smirking.
“Don’t crush me, I’m fragile.” You pout, the goalie rolling her eyes.
“I can’t J, she used the pout on me, you know it’s my weakness.”
Julie snaps her fingers.
“Damn it.”
“Well...” You slip out of Alyssa’s hold and move towards Julie, the two of you grinning at one another.
“May the best team win.” You hold your hand out, chuckling when Julie instead goes for a hug.
“Well it will be us.” Julie shrugs and you roll your eyes.
“Whatever helps you sleep at night Johnston.”
                                                           ***
Well after the anthems you race to your place on field, grinning when you see Julie’s blue orbs on you, a smirk stretched across her face.
The blonde sticks her tongue out and you scoff, your tongue slipping passed your lips.
Julie giggles and you shake your head, rolling your eyes.
“Ohhhh, it’s on now.”
                                                           ***
By the end of the first half the game is 1-1, a goal by Sam Kerr in the 20th minute and Tobin Heath in the 35th.
You let out a wolf whistle, Julie turning to you her cheeks flushed pink from the exertion of the game.
The blonde’s eyes double in size, her cheeks darkening further when you tuck a loose strand of hair behind her ear and cup her cheek.
“Be sure to drink some water okay, your cheeks are really red.” You smile kindly and Julie nods, her mouth opening and closing a few times before she simply nods.
“You too.” She mumbles dumbly and you nod.
“You’re still getting your ass kicked in the second.” You wink, jogging off and Julie scoffs.
“IN YOUR DREAMS!”
Julie watches you go with a dopey smile, turning around and coming face to face with Alyssa Naeher, the woman smirking.
Julie’s eyes narrow.
“Shut up.”
                                                           ***
“Jesus you were giving her the biggest puppy dog eyes.”  Emily’s bottom lip trembles as she mocks you and you smack her hard in the chest.
“Hey! You’re just smacking on me because it’s true.” Emily sticks her tongue out and you roll your eyes, cheeks dusted pink.
You knew she was right, they were all right.
You’d fallen in love with your best friend, but most likely blew any chance you had with her by acting like a horny teenager.
“Y/N?” You jump at the sound of an unfamiliar voice, turning to Katie Naughton, defender for the Chicago Red Stars, Julie’s teammate.
“Yeah?” You ask, your head cocked to one side in confusion, absolutely baffled at what the defender could want from you.
“Listen.” The dirty blonde places a hand on your forearm. “Please tell me you’ve stopped whoring around.”
Your eyes narrow as you pull your arm away from the woman.
“I’m sorry but does that concern you?” You ask, put off, but the woman sighs.
“It matters to me because it matters to Julie.”
Your body sags, no longer stiff and in defense mode as it had been before.
“Look, no one else is going to tell you, but I will...” She takes a step closer, leaning towards your ear. “Julie loves you Y/N, don’t fuck it up.”
You blink rapidly, your brows yet again furrowing in confusion.
“What?” You murmur, only to be caught off guard when you’re abruptly turned around, your wide eyes locking with a pair of angry blue orbs.
“You promise me Y/N, you promised me you would stop.” She crosses her arms across her chest and your heart stills.
“No- No it’s not what...” You shake your head, but Julie simply holds a hand up, scoffing.
“Save it. You’re not a teenager anymore Y/N, you need to grow up.”
The blonde stomps off, your sad eyes on her back as you watch her go. You let out a sad sigh, your head hanging in shame.
“It’s not what you think.”
                                                           ***
Julie was disappointed, she wasn’t just disappointed, she was pissed. Catching you flirting with someone, let alone her own teammate made not only her heart ache, but her blood boil.
That anger bubbled inside her until she found a way to release it, and that was tackle the ball away from you.
Julie sprints across field, sliding in for the tackle, but immediately regrets it the second she catches your ankle, your leg twisting at an abnormal angle.
“FUCK.” You yell as you fall to the turf, clasping your leg, rocking back and forth as tears slide down your cheeks.
“Y/N...” Julie whispers as she drops down onto the turf beside you. “Where does it hurt?” She asks and you sniffle, your bottom lip trembling.
“My knee. My knee, it’s my knee.” You groan, stretching your leg out.
The medical team is on you in seconds, Julie watching sadly as you’re eventually moved to your feet with the help of the medical staff.
You glance at Julie out of the corner of your eye, frowning sadly as you’re helped off the field, your head hung low with sadness.
Julie watches you go off the field, blue orbs filled with tears.
“What have I done?”
                                                           ***
“You have to face her Julie.” Alyssa says sadly as her hand runs down the blonde’s back.
“I-I can’t, I really hurt her.” She attempts to swallow the lump in her throat, her head shaking back and forth.
Julie’s blue eyes widen when she sees Tobin, Emily and Lindsey all looking her way, the trio frowning sadly.
Julie races over to them, blue orbs frantically darting between the three of them.
“Is she alright, what happened?!” She asks, her heart pounding in her chest and Tobin shakes her head.
“It’s her ACL.”
Julie feels as if someone doused her in cold water, her mouth hanging open as she shakes her head back and forth.
She couldn’t careless about losing the Final, all she cared about was you.
“I did this to her... I...” Julie sniffles, a tear running down her cheek. “I have to see her, please let me see her.”
Lindsey glances at Tobin before glancing at Emily, the three nodding.
“Come with us.”
                                                           ***
Of course, the rest of the Portland Thorns weren’t at all happy to see Julie after she’d injured one of their own, but Tobin, Emily and Lindsey guided her through the locker room until they reach the trainer’s room, the trio nodding.
“Don’t hurt her again.” Lindsey frowns and Julie nods rapidly.
“I won’t.”
Tobin places a hand on her shoulder.
“Maybe you should ask her about what really happened with Naughton, it wasn’t what you think.” She pats Julie’s shoulder before taking her leave, leaving Julie behind the only thing separating her and you behind the door in front of her.
She takes a deep breath, swallowing hard.
“What if I’d got it all wrong... I hurt Y/N for nothing.” She swipes at her cheeks with her sleeves, attempting to rid them of tears before she goes into the room. She slowly pushes the door open, quickly realizing that she could in no way hold back her tears when she sees you on the bed, a bag of ice on your knee.
“JJ.” You go to sit up, grimacing.
“Don’t move.” Julie places a hand on your chest, guiding you back.
Sad blue orbs dart to your leg and Julie swallows hard, tears slipping down her cheeks.
“Is it a tear?” She asks and you sigh, slowly nodding your head.
“That’s what they think.”
Julie turns around, her back to you.
“You weren’t flirting with her, were you?” She asks, turning back around and you shake your head.
“No... I was talking to her about you.”
Julie covers her face with her hands, trying to hide her tears, but she can’t the woman letting out a sob.
“Shit, JJ.” You grimace as you sit up, your uninjured leg out stretched, your foot on the floor.
Julie picks her head up at the sound of your pained grimace and shakes her head.
“Get your ass back in bed, what are you doing?!” She gasps as she helps you back into bed.
“You were crying, I don’t like it when you cry.”
You cup Julie’s cheeks, your thumb gently swiping each and every fallen tear away.
“Please, look at me.” You whisper and Julie does, sniffling sadly as her watery blue eyes lock with your Y/E/C orbs.
“This isn’t your fault...” You whisper, shaking your head. “My knee’s been acting up for a while...” You shrug and Julie scoffs.
“I just helped it along.”
You shake your head, grabbing the front of her jersey and pulling her closer.
“You didn’t mean too, it was an accident.” You sigh. “I know you didn’t hurt me on purpose.”
Julie shakes her head, her head hanging in shame.
“I still hurt you, because I was stupid and got jealous.” She sniffles and your brows furrow.
“You were jealous?” You ask, confused, though you remember Naughton’s earlier words.
“Julie loves you Y/N, don’t fuck it up.”
Your eyes dart around Julie’s face, the woman’s mouth opening and closing a few times before she reaches for you, cupping your cheek.
“JJ?” You ask confused, the blonde’s watery blue orbs darting around your face.
Your eyes double in size when Julie leans in, her lips brushing against yours, your lips meeting in a tender kiss that knocks the air from your lungs and makes your heart slam in your rib cage.
The kiss is passionate, ending sweetly as the two of you pull apart, cheeks flushed.
“I was jealous because I’ve been in love with you Y/N... For a really long time.” She glances away, swallowing hard.
Your shake your head in disbelief, a smile stretching across your face.
“I’m in love with you too.”
Julie’s blue orbs widen in shock. She flips around her tear-filled eyes darting around your face.
“Are you... Are you serious?” She sniffles and you smile, cupping her cheek.
“I am, now get over here and let me show you how serious.”
Julie giggles as her lips press against yours, gasping when you pull her closer until she’s on the bed.
“You just tore your ACL stupid.” She smacks your chest and you shrug.
“Well, I didn’t tear my lips.” You wink, grinning charmingly and Julie rolls her eyes.
“Shut up.” She mumbles before leaning in, your lips meeting again.
The kisses almost immediately heat up, the two of you kissing as if your lives depend on it, your fingers tangling in Julie’s blonde locks as your lips move in tandem.
You flick your tongue against Julie’s bottom lip and the woman gasps, your tongue slipping into her open mouth.
“Shit Y/N.” She whispers as your tongues meet, the feel making you groan into her open mouth.
“YEP. I’d say that they’re just fine.” Emily marches away from the door, unwilling to be the one to interrupt the two of you.
“What makes you say that?” Lindsey asks, about to move to the door but Emily catches her wrist.
“Considering Y/N’S tongue is down Julie’s throat; I’d say they’re good.”
Meanwhile back in the trainer’s room the two of you part, both wearing matching grins.
“You know...” You smirk. “You’re going to have to take care of me, since I’m injured you know?” You shrug and Julie hums, leaning in to press another kiss to your lips.
“Something tells me I won’t complain too much.” She kisses your lips again and you grin.
“I promise, I’ll be a royal pain in the ass, just for you.”
Julie rolls her eyes.
“You better not.”
“Watch me Johnston, watch me.”

Home (Lindsey Horan x Reader)
Tumblr media
Anonymous Request:  Could you do a Lindsey Horan where they met in France and got really close but sadly Lindsey then left for Portland. But now the reader is joining Portland. Also could you do it where the reader is really small and some cute fluffy moment thank you
REPOST BECAUSE A-FUCKING-GAIN MY FIC VANISHED FROM THE TAGS
The day Lindsey Horan left France, your heart went with her, the two of you becoming rather close over her time with the PSG, 4 years to be exact.
The two of you did everything together, so when Lindsey told you she was leaving for Portland, your heart broke, shattering into a million pieces a large amount of those pieces going with her when she left.
Though now, 4 years later you were about to reunite with your friend in the best way.
The two of you of course had stayed in touch, chatting daily, or if not daily every other day.
Now though, you were standing on her doorstep, devising a plan with her fellow USWNT teammates; Tobin Heath, Christen Press and Emily Sonnett, to surprise her.
Emily squealed, clapping her hands together excitedly.
“She’s going to be so happy.”
Tobin gives her a nudge, grinning, her best friend, Christen Press at her side.
“Shhh.”
Lindsey pulls open her apartment door with a grin and you duck down, sure not to be seen but with your small stature, it’s easy to hide.
“Come on in...” She steps aside, letting everyone in, but Tobin holds the door open.
“Go ahead, actually waiting on one more.” Tobin nods, Lindsey’s brows furrowing.
“Who?”
Tobin shrugs.
“You’ll see.”
Lindsey hums, her eyes narrowed.
“I don’t trust you.” She hums and Tobin scoffs.
Emily grabs Lindsey, dragging her into the apartment.
“Stand here, and keep those blue eyes on my beautiful face.” Sonnett grins, Lindsey rolling her eyes.
“Yes, because there’s nothing more I’d want to look at than your face.”
As the two bicker, Tobin waves you into the room, slowly clicking the door shut as you both move towards the woman whose back is to you.
Emily grins as she pats Lindsey’s shoulders.
“Well, I’ve kept you distracted long enough.”
Lindsey’s brows furrow as she turns around her blue orbs widening when she sees you.
“Y/N?” She whispers a tear leaking from her watery blue orbs and you grin, nodding.
Lindsey lunges at you, her arms wrapping tightly around your neck, yours wrapping around her middle as you pull her close.
“You’re here.” She whispers against your neck. “You’re really here.” She sniffles and you grin.
“I’ve missed you.” You whisper into her ear and the blonde lets out a watery laugh, sniffing loudly.
“I missed you too.”
The two of you part, neither going far as you rid one another’s cheeks of tears.
“What are you doing here?” She whispers, grinning as her eyes dart around your face.
You shrug.
“Just wanted to see my best friend...”
Lindsey hums, her eyes narrowing.
“You’re still the worst liar.” She giggles and you roll your eyes.
“Fine...” You glance behind you at Tobin, smirking. “I may have had some, ulterior motives.” You shrug, the forward’s brows arching.
You bite your tongue between your teeth, turning back to Lindsey.
“Wanted to check out Portland, since I’ll be moving here soon.” You smirk and Lindsey’s orbs widen.
“Wh-What!?” She squeaks and you grin.
“I’m joining the Portland Thorns.”
                                                           ***
Lindsey INSISTED on you staying with her instead of getting your own apartment in no way taking no for an answer.
“Why get your own place when you can live with me, you don’t even need to bring anything! You’re so tiny you could sleep in a drawer anyway!” She exclaimed, arms flailing.
Naturally, your best friend was more than excited you were coming to Portland the woman quickly rattling off everything she wanted to do together.
Lindsey doesn’t realize you’d stopped walking until she glances behind her, her blue orbs narrowing.
“Hey where’d you go?” She asks and you smile, shaking your head.
“I really missed you.” You smile, cheeks flushing pink, something that’s mimicked on Lindsey’s.
“I really missed you too.”
She holds her hand out and you take it without any hesitation, your fingers intertwining.
The blonde gives your hand a squeeze and your cheeks darken, goosebumps sprouting on your arms.
“You cold?” Lindsey asks and you shake your head.
“No, I’m fine.” You blush the woman nodding as the two of you continue down the sidewalk.
Lindsey continues to ramble, flailing her arms around, along with your own considering your fingers are intertwined.
You missed the sound of her voice, the feel of her hand in your own, with the move you’d have your best friend back, but that also meant, it was harder to hide the crush you had on the blonde, something you’d kept buried deep inside since her time at PSG.
                                                           ***
Ultimately, you had to go back to France to not only bid farewell everyone, but to also gather your belongings and tie loose ends.
After a teary goodbye with your family, friends and teammates, you were back on the plane headed to Portland.
Lindsey had been texting you non-stop, making sure you were safe and that you told your parents she loved them. Even on the plane ride your phone beeped again and again, the blonde rambling excitedly about the two of you living together.
You rubbed your hands together, it was going to be a long flight from France to California, but you were more than ready to start your new life with your best friend by your side.
                                                           ***
The grin that spreads across your face when you see Lindsey waiting in the airport, Emily, Tobin, Christen and an addition in the form of Kelley smiling as you make your way towards them, Lindsey meeting you half way to wrap her arms tightly around you.
“I missed you.” She whispers in your ear and you grin.
“I missed you too.”
Kelley leans towards Emily.
“Wasn’t she gone for only a week?” She asks, the hazel eyed blonde grinning.
“Yep.”
                                                           ***
“Jesus, you look beat.” Emily mumbles as you move through the apartment doorway with a lengthy and loud yawn.
“11-hour flight, and didn’t get much sleep thanks to the fact that the man next to me didn’t know how to use headphones.” You grumble, wandering to the couch and falling face down on it.
“Y/N, go get in my bed, I know you have crazy jet lag.” Lindsey makes her way towards you, running her hand down your back and you sigh, snuggling into the couch.
You mumble into the couch, Lindsey rolling her eyes as she scoops your up in her arms and carries you to her bed room.
“Thank you.” You whisper, your arms slipping around Lindsey’s neck.
“You’re welcome, let’s get you to bed.”
Lindsey disappears into her bedroom, leaving Emily, Kelley, Tobin and Christen in the living room, the four of them grinning at one another.
“She’s so into her, isn’t she?” Kelley whispers, Emily’s smile splitting into a grin.
“They’re into each other, without a doubt.”
Lindsey tiptoes into the living room, softly closing the door behind her. When she sees the look on everyone’s faces, her brows furrow.
“What?” She asks, the four women shrugging.
“Nothing at all.”
                                                           ***
“Still a blanket hog.” Lindsey mumbles as she slips into bed beside you later that night, smiling at the peaceful, relaxed look on your face.
A piece of hair falls into your face and your nose twitches, your hand swiping at your face.
Lindsey giggles, tucking the loose strand of hair behind your ear with a light blush, the woman gasping when you grab her wrist.
“Linds...?” You rasp, your eyes still closed, brows furrowed.
“It’s be, go back to sleep.” She whispers and you grumble.
“Bonne nuit amour (Goodnight love).”
Lindsey smiles as you shuffle closer, burying your nose in her neck. Her arms slip around you and she sighs, the feel of you pressing against her after so many years making her melt.
“Goodnight Y/N.”
                                                           ***
A couple weeks pass before the group gets together again, the USWNT wanting to see your skill, which of course, Lindsey had boasted about.
“Ohhhhhhhhhhh!” Emily cheers when you slot the ball between Tobin’s legs and fire it down field to Christen, the nutmeg Queen turning to you with a grin.
“Well, I like her.” Tobin shrugs, surprising you by pulling you into a headlock and ruffling your hair.
“That’s the Tobin initiation noogie, it’s how she shows love.” Emily grins, the forward turning her way with a grin. She pats the top of your head before running after Sonnett.
“No! No! No!” She yells, racing down field, but of course, Tobin catches up to her.
The sight of Emily’s hair after Tobin’s ‘initiation noogie’ makes you snicker, her hair poking out in random directions, where as yours is a bit messy.
You jump at the feel of a hand on your back and smile when you realize Christen Press is standing beside you.
“How does it feel to be in the US?” She asks and you smile.
“I like it so far, Lindsey’s been showing me around a lot...” You smile, watching as Lindsey joins in on wrestling Sonnett with Tobin.
“I bet it’s nice to be together again.” Kelley smirks, elbowing Christen, meanwhile your eyes are still on Lindsey, grinning when the at the sound of the blonde’s laughter.
“It is, really nice... I’ve missed her so much.” You blush when Lindsey glances your way, the blue-eyed blonde grinning.
Your brows furrow and you take a step back when Lindsey starts running towards you.
“Non (No)!” You yell, running down the field, Lindsey on your heels.
Her USWNT teammates watch as you quickly get away, thanks to your small stature, you’re incredibly fast.
Eventually though, Lindsey catches up to you, tackling to you to the ground, the blonde landing on top of you, pinning your wrists to the ground.
The blonde hovers over you with a grin, panting heavily as your Y/E/C orbs locking her sparkling blues.
She surprises you when, instead of getting off of you she lowers herself on top of you, burying her nose in your neck.
“Remember when we used to sneak out to the field after dark to look at the stars? We’d always cuddle.” She whispers in your ear and you beam, your cheeks pink.
“I remember, how could I forget? I was with you.” You admit, blushing when Lindsey pulls back, her blue orbs wide.
Lindsey blinks once, twice, a third time before they widen, realizing that the two of you have an audience, the blonde scrambling off of you.
She chuckles nervously, holding her hand out to you and you take it with a smile, the woman jerking you to your feet a little too hard considering you end up flush against her, the two of you blushing as you turn away from one another, your cheeks blood red.
Emily, Tobin, Kelley and Christen all share a glance, shaking their heads.
“Hopeless.”
You meanwhile turn back to Lindsey with a bashful grin.
“I couldn’t forget because it was time I spent with you...” You shrug, Lindsey turning back towards you with an arched brow, a small smile playing on her lips.
“I cherished every second of it.” You glance at your shuffling feet.
Lindsey slips her arms around your neck, pulling you close, your arms slipping around her middle.
“I cherish every second I spend with you.” Lindsey whispers and you grin, blushing when the woman kisses the top of your head.
“I’m ready to make more memories with you.” Lindsey whispers and you nod, nuzzling into get chest.
“Me too.”
Again, Emily, Tobin, Kelley and Christen share a glance, all smiles.
“Maybe not so hopeless after all.”
                                                           ***
You flop on the couch letting out a lengthy loud yawn, your eyes fluttering shut.
After spending time on the field you’d all explored the city, Lindsey showing you some more of her favorite places.
Most of your attention though was focused on the fact that Lindsey had held your hand the entire day, your fingers intertwined, her thumb running gently along the back of your hand.
Lindsey takes your bags of takeout from the delivery person and places them on the kitchen counter, turning towards you with a grin, though when she sees your spaced out, faraway look her mouth snaps shut.
She’d noticed that look on your face a number of times that day, your Y/E/C orbs focused on something off in the distance.
“Are you... Uhhh...” Lindsey makes her way towards the couch and you turn to her, smiling when you see her face scrunch up in thought.
“D'accord (Okay)?” She asks and you snicker, remembering years ago when you’d taught her some French, you didn’t have the heart to tell her she was using it incorrectly.
“I’m okay, just thinking.” You shrug, your eyes locking with her bright blue orbs.
“About what?” She asks, taking a seat beside you on the couch.
You turn to her, shrugging.
“Everything I guess.”
Lindsey forgets the food entirely in favor of taking a seat beside you on the couch, eyes scanning you worriedly.
“What’s on your mind?” She asks, gently placing her hand on top of yours and your eyes widen, cheeks flushing.
“Everything is so new... And...” You turn towards her, your eyes darting around her face. “I missed you so much... And now living with you again, it’s just.” You shrug, cheeks flushing darker.
Lindsey’s blue orbs flick from your Y/E/C eyes to your lips and back.
“I’m just so happy you’re here.” She whispers, surprising you by cupping your flushed cheek.
She leans towards you and your freeze, your cheeks flushing.
A loudly chiming phones pulls the two of you apart, and Lindsey’s eyes widen.
“Uh, just a sec.” She stammers, jumping to her feet and moving back into the kitchen, her brows furrowed when she sees her phone’s screen.
Lindsey’s blue orbs go comically wide as she turns to you, realizing your phone has started chiming as well.
One look at your phone and your heart ceasing beating, multiple pictures of you and Lindsey exploring Portland, hand in hand covering your screen, each and every headline the same.
Is a new romance sprouting between newest NWSL Portland Thorn’s member Y/N Y/L/N and Portland Thorn’s veteran Lindsey Horan?
You swallow hard, your eyes again darting to Lindsey who you realize is now smiling softly.
“I mean we would be an NWSL power couple.” Lindsey shrugs and you smirk, a brow arched.
“Is this your way of asking me on a date Horan?” You tease, the blonde turning to you, her cheeks dusted pink.
Her mouth opens and closes a few times before snapping shut, the woman dropping her phone on the counter before making her way towards you.
“What if I were... To ummm...” Lindsey shuffles nervously and you smirk, watching the woman fidget and mumble nervously.
Slowly, you move to your feet, making your way towards the blushing, stammering woman.
“What if you were to what?” You ask, a brow arched and Lindsey swallows hard.
“Ask you on a... On a date?” She turns away and you lick your lips, your heart slamming in your chest, so hard you worry she may hear.
“Well I’d have to say yes.” You grin and Lindsey’s head perks up, her blue orbs wide.
“Seriously?!” She asks giddily and you laugh.
“Ye-Yeah.”
                                                           ***
That’s how you end up on the field again a few nights later, your backs on the turf as you stare at the starry sky above you.
“Coming to the US was the best decision I ever made in my life.” You whisper and Lindsey turns to you with an arched brow.
You turn to her with a smile, your eyes darting to her parted lips.
“Why?” She asks, her eyes fluttering shut when you cup her cheek, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
You slowly lean in, your forehead resting against hers, your noses brushing.
“Because you’re here.” You whisper, the two of you meeting halfway to bridge the gap between you, your lips pressing softly together, meeting in a tender kiss.
Lindsey grins, her arms slipping around you as your lips move.
Eventually, the two of you part, neither going far as Lindsey pulls you closer, your bodies now flush.
Lindsey ducks down, kissing the top of your head.
“You coming to the US was the best thing that’s ever happened to me...” She whispers and you grin nuzzling against her collar bone.
“Because it brought you back to me...” She kisses the top of your head again and you sniffle tears stinging your eyes.
“It brought me home.”
