as soon as i saw the melon soda bag available in the pre-order kickstarter for luke ge’s tamagotchi school bags, i knew that owning it was my destiny... melon soda has been my favorite shell for years but is near-unattainable for reasons that i am sure would be obvious to anyone who spends as much time looking at tamagotchi shells as i do. i am so excited to see some merchandise inspired by it and am very happy with this purchase! i just need to get a little mimitchi plush to display in the window and maybe some thematically consistent keychains.

#once while having a very bad time emotionally i could not fall asleep because i was having bizarre mind visions of the melon soda shell. #it was rotating nonstop in my mind's eye.

Kuchipatchi Home Café

Yes, hello, welcome! It's finally time to cover Namjatown's Tamagotchi✩Fes. But first, a snack.

Kuchipatchi is the star this time around, with a special doughnut by IkumiMama and a nice cool drink in a round Kuchipatchi glass, both sold at Namjatown only for the duration of the Tamagotchi✩Fes event!

The doughnut is a basic cake that's not super sweet. The most prominent flavor is the chocolate that makes up Kuchipatchi's eyes and the slab filling the doughnut hole across the front.

For those who think it looks familiar, it's IDENTICAL to the doughnuts sold at the old Harajuku TamaDepa in 2015! A true blast from the past.

Still have that laptop and plate...shut up, it hasn't been 7 years since then!

The doughnut cost 650 yen plus tax at the cafe, which I feel is a bit high for something so small. They gave it to me to take home frozen, and advised me to keep it in the fridge until I was ready to eat it. Aside from Kuchipatchi, Mametchi and Lovelitchi were also available, but they had a limit of one doughnut per customer...which I mean, fair, the event still had two weeks to go...but I wanted to bite all of them!

Now for the drink! Available in the Hugood gift shop, the "~25th Anniversary~ Tamagotchi Fes. IN NAMJATOWN Tamagotchi Kuchipatchi Yurayura Glass" is a mouthful of a name for a 300mL cup. Available in a bright green unmarked cardboard box for only 500 yen, one can't help but buy multiple...(but they limited it to 2 per person)!

The fact that it's Made in Japan is a great touch. Shame it's not microwave or dishwasher safe, though.

The navy blue Kuchipatchi print on the clear glass looks great when filled with melon soda, iced green tea, matcha latte...basically any other chilled yellow-green drink you can think of!

Of course, the true joy of this glass comes from its rounded shape, which rocks back and forth without falling over in a manner that mimics Kuchipatchi's waddling gait!

SO CUTE.

I think it's great when you're able to bring the fun of an event home with you to make the good times last even just a little bit longer. Also, I want more Tamagotchi tableware...!

Tamagotchi✩Fes. Special Menu

What's a character event without special themed food? LACKING, I say! Luckily, Namjatown's event had a modest Tamagotchi menu which I'll run you through briefly.

First up are drinks!

FortuneLatte is a cool treat that will print the full-color design of your choice on the foam of your latte as you wait. For Tamagotchi✩Fes., you can choose one of six characters to grace the center via a tablet, then the program will choose a fortune for you at random. Then you watch as your drink is made: there are cameras over each of the machines so you can watch the printer in action! It's super quick!! The drink choices are iced or hot cafe latte, matcha latte, or cocoa.

I chose Violetchi on an iced green tea latte to keep my Pix company. Look how vibrant those colors are! And the crispness of the outlines! Sometimes it's easy to forget we live in some spectacular times. My fortune was "Medium Luck: maybe there'll be something good?" I mean, I'll take it.

Next up is the "Kuchipatchi wobbly glass soft drink". Your choice of iced beverage in a Kuchipatchi glass for 500 yen. Glass sold separately for 1,500 yen in the gift shop! 500 yen for 1 cup of plain old Coca Cola is highway robbery, but hey, whatever works? You can't deny that glass was made for melon soda.

On to the food, or should I say, desserts!

You can get a little soft serve cone with your choice of character on a monaka wafer along with either yellow star or red heart decorative chocolate bits. Additional character monaka or fancy toppings (flower garland, rose, bunny ears) for 150 yen each, basic toppings (lemon leaf, blue/red ribbon, big yellow star, little flower) 100 yen a piece, and additional stars/hearts 50 yen for 3. Cool if you like white chocolate I guess? Makes for a great photo, but I'm not an ice cream fan so...pass.

Finally, a spectacular blast from the past, the mini character doughnuts just like they used to sell at the TamaDepa in Harajuku back in the mid-2010s! Mametchi's ears are chocolate-covered almonds...very cute. The doughnuts are purchased frozen so you can defrost and eat them at home. At 650 yen a piece you'd think they're substantially sized but actually they're smaller in diameter than a coffee mug. SUPER cute though.

So, not the most extensive menu ever, but better than nothing! There was no theming in the dining area and honestly, it's pretty depressing with all the acrylic COVID barrier walls, so you'll have to make do with the menu.

You know, I’m starting to think that the American Tamagotchis are just cheap. I’m running my Melon Soda now and I have to say, the buttons on this are WAY sturdier than on my American V3. Same goes for the buttons on my Akai- the American version is just... flimsy. Not to mention that the quality of plastic on the European and Japanese ones also seems better...

I’m just sitting here looking at my new Tama like...

IDK the camera doesn’t do the beautiful color of the Melon Soda shell justice, it’s just SUCH a nice shade of... icey-teal? Maybe?

And like maybe it’s silly that I’m getting so much joy from a plastic virtual pet but you know what? I’ve wanted this shell for so long, it’s been a goal of mine since I was a kid and first saw the Melon Soda. And it makes me happy. 

I guess what I’m trying to say is do things that make you happy. Even if people think that a 24 year old you professional who signed a lease with her GF and is applying for jobs and graduation in 19 days is too “old” to be playing with a Tamagotchi... Do it. It brings you joy, do it. It makes your day just a little bit brighter, puts a smile on your face? Do it. The world sucks far too much and life is far too complicated for us to abandon things that we love, things that make us happy, because it’s too “childish” or “frivolous” or whatever.
