Tetraface Inc Metasequoia 4.8.7 Win x64 - metaseq (2024)
Tetraface Inc Metasequoia 4.8.7 Win x64
metaseq

god, it really is so wild that Metaseq runs so well through Wine
Metaseq is A: a 3D program and B: a program where you need to input your ID to unlock the full suite of features (since this is a paid program and all)
both of those are functionality where i’ve struggled to make Wine perfectly run them. games often won’t run at all, and FL Studio can’t contact the servers to verify who i am so i’m stuck with the free version where i can’t save my work
but Metaseq’s got no problem. the 3D stuff functions absolutely perfectly with no problems, and it has no trouble verifying that i’m a paid user.

honoka-kousaka-official replied to your post: Here’s what the Sonic looks like when I load it in...
Why are 3D softwares like this
Because 3D stuff is complicated and these programs weren’t exactly designed to work together

I want to get into model editing/making, but I wanted to ask someone who's experienced with it: If I were to create my own clothing and whatnot for models, similar to how you do, would I be able to do so in PMX solely or would I need an external program to create them in before converting them to PMX?? and if so, what external program should I use(or what do you usually use)?
aw MAN i mean i don’t think im that super experienced leleululul but i don’t know if it’s 100% possible in PMX??? i’m sure there are ways (i know you can make primitives in PMX) but i dont personally know them or am tempted to find out (PMX lags and crashes too much for my liking + i use the japanese version for aesthetic purpose idk)
but for me i personally and generally use metasequoia 3.1 (the old ass version) to model/model-edit anything and then i export it as an .x file to rig and stuff in PMXeditor (i think there’s plugins to rig directly in metaseq but like im old school as shit so idk HEHE) but i’ve heard nice shit about blender as a tool for modelling too- in fact i think you could probably get more quality work done in blender but i’m a simpleton my mind can’t comprehend it, so i just stick w meta
if you choose to use meta i can help as much as i can, i have a whole tutorial tag, full of shit and another speed-edit tag as well maybe that can be of use??? but welcome to the modelling/model-editing realm join us on the dark side

oh thank goodness
i finally got around to reinstalling metaseqouia (i switched to linux back in january, how did it take me this long????), and, ABSOLUTE YAY, it works perfectly in wine. i was super worried it wouldn’t work well at all, since it is a fairly obscure japanese program that works with 3d models and so far wine hasn’t had too good of a track record with those (cm3d2 works if you set the locale to japanese, but nobody’s found a way to make mods work so i can’t export to mmd without doing a little extra fiddling; mmd works but it has glitches and mme doesn’t work and you can’t actually render anything; i still haven’t gotten pmx editor to work at all), but i literally had to do 0 fiddling to get it to work. the installer crashed once, but i tried it again and it worked fine, and now it’s running, no having to mess with winecfg in the slightest.
and, like, thank christ. dealing with my virtual machine can be a headache (ESPECIALLY 3D stuff), and metasequoia is the best 3d modelling program i’ve tried so far, at least for the actual modelling part (i do have to supplement it with blender for more advanced techniques, but metaseq is so much better for the actual modelling), and i spent fifty bucks on this program back in 2016, and i have been heavily considering actually opening up commissions for models so the easier that is the better

Does anyone have recommendations for some sort of uv unwrapping software?  Some Win10 update along the way broke my installation of Unfold3D, and I cannot get it to work again. at all. :D And metaseq’s built in unwrapper is kind of garbage, so....

WAIT NVM I FIGURED IT OUT
i thought it was an error message from Metaseq so i figured nobody would really have any sort of answer
but then i realized it could have been an error message from Wine
so i looked it up and yeah it was
so i just changed some Wine settings and now we’re back in business

when i graduated from high school in 2016, i got a lot of money as graduation presents. at some point in the following month, i had about $600, which is still the most money i’ve ever had. and after spending a lot of that, i earned $250 more for housesitting and petsitting for my grandparents and aunt for a month.
i spent a lot of this money on software licenses.
of these purchases.... some of them, i regret more than others.
the really good purchases that i’d absolutely make again were FL Studio and Metasequoia. FL Studio is a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), basically the kinda program you use to make music on your computer. i don’t really make much music, but FL Studio has been very useful for the little music i have done, AND it’s also been useful for all sorts of other audio work, such as making my custom hitsounds for TF2 or making sound effects for my videos. even now that i understand and regularly use Audacity (which is an open-source audio editing program), i often find myself using FL Studio and Audacity in conjunction with each other. Metasequoia was the even better purchase (especially since it was only like $45, making it the second cheapest of these purchases), as it’s one of the three programs i use for 3D modelling, and probably the most essential of the three since it’s the one i do the actual sculpting in (Blender is for advanced editing techniques, and PMXE is for making it work for MMD specifically; Metaseq is also the only one that’s premium software, as PMXE is freeware and Blender is downright FOSS).
the purchases that i don’t really regret but also wouldn’t really make again... are the Vocaloid stuff. i bought a license to Vocaloid4 and to the IA Rocks, V4 Flower, and MAYU voicebanks. altogether, this alone was about $400, since the editor and each voicebank are like $100 each. and i’m somewhat proud of these purchases. they’re good products, and i had fun with them, and i like these characters so actually owning the official licenses to use their voices as i liked was great, and i did some great art with them. i might even use them again in the future, once i’ve got a better idea for some things. but i wouldn’t make these purchases again. this was like $400 and i didn’t really get that much out of it.
and finally, the purchases i absolutely regret... were Hypercam 4 and Adobe Premiere Elements 14. i would warn anyone to stay the fuck away from Hypercam and Adobe, and if you really wanna use Adobe’s products, pirate them. Hypercam was even by far the cheapest purchase (being only $19), and it was still a total ripoff. and they actually did something REALLY fucking scummy- they told me it’d be like $30, but there was a free trial, and so i decided to try out the free trial... and then i suddenly got a popup that was like “HEY NOW THAT YOU’VE STARTED YOUR FREE TRIAL, IF YOU BUY IT WITHIN THE NEXT HOUR IT’LL ONLY BE $19!!!!!!!!!!”. even at the time i thought it was scummy but i bought it anyways. Hypercam 4 wasn’t that bad of a product, but it wasn’t anything special either, especially since Hypercam made Hypercam 2 (the one everybody actually knows about) freeware ages ago.
and Elements.... i liked it at first. i’d been searching for a good video editor for like a month, and i wasn’t having much luck- i could only find shit that didn’t work, shit that seemed like it might work but then it locked essential features out of the free version, and overcomplicated, hard to understand open source programs. and Elements? it worked! i didn’t have to worry about free version nonsense since i paid about $100 for it, and it functioned, and it was intuitive. and this all was true... but as time went on, i realized more and more that it was also ungodly slow, and it really liked to crash if i did anything as complicated as open the transitions menu, and well, it was expensive!!!! this set me back $100!!!! and then when i switched to linux, i couldn’t use it anymore, but also, i suddenly had a lot more options! i can actually find decent free video editors now, which i couldn’t back then!!! i dunno if it’s just that linux has a better variety of free editing programs due to its open-source nature or times just changed between 2016 and 2019, but like... i still haven’t found a video editing program that i’m really satisfied with, even to the level i was with Elements, but i feel like that’s just because my search isn’t over yet and i didn’t do enough looking into the issue.

i don’t even know where to begin looking for an alternative
Blender is a really big deal, but the thing is, i already use Blender alongside Metaseq
Blender is far more powerful than Metaseq but Metaseq is way way way easier to use. like, i figured out how to make a model in Metaseq in like five minutes. it’s really intuitive and simple, i don’t really have to think about what i’m doing, i just do it and let my mind go to work
Blender is not that. Blender is this terrifying maze of buttons and menus and endless tools upon tools and even when i do know what i’m doing it doesn’t really feel like i’m just flowing through it, it feels like i’m doing something super technical
to put it simply, to me, Metaseq is an art program and Blender is a technical tool. making a 3D model requires both.
